Dolphin (Mahi Mahi) fishing has been red hot the last few days. Capt. Galon caught 40 fish on Friday of this week and 30 fish on a trip today. The Mahi’s have been from 5 to 10 lbs.The fish have been in 600 to 800 feet of water, just look for birds or troll the large weedlines that have been in those depths. There has also been some Marlin mixed in with the Mahi’s as we saw one 2 days ago and a lot of other boats have report Marlin sightings. There is still some nice Amberjack action on the humps and we caught a nice 20 lb one yesterday. The Mutton snappers are also spawning and there have been some good reports of Muttons on the deep wrecks in the 20 lb range. The eagle has been producing some nice permit using live crabs.Inshore there have been a few Tarpon being caught and there have been some good reports of tarpon out west and those fish are moving in our direction.

The Mahi fishing has been good with boats catching 5 to 10 fish a day.The winds just switched out of the north which will slow them down for awhile but It should turn the Sails back on.There were a few Sails caught this week and as long as we get some north winds we should continue seeing sails. The story has been at the Islamorada Hump where the Amberjacks are biting very well and we had Darin Aaby and his family that fished with us this week and caught these nice Amberjacks. In addition to the Amberjacks at the Humps there have been some large Tiger Sharks caught this week. There was one caught that was estimated at 800lbs and another at 500lbs and they were eating Amberjacks!!The Blackfin Tunas have been good on the humps but they have been smaller fish in the 3 to 5 lb range.Back on the reef we have had some great Yellowtail fishing.Inshore around the bridges and in the channels the Tarpon are showing up in good numbers and live Mullet and crabs are your best baits.Happy Easter!!!!

Well the fishing is starting to heat up in Islamorada. There are a few Sailfish being caught with most of them caught today north of the light in 100 to 125 feet of water. There have been some Cobias in the 20 to 30 lb range on rays in the sand in 20 to 30 feet of water. The Yellowtail action has been great with a lot of nice flags being caught in 90 feet.Today there was some nice Mahi Mahi caught on the edge of the reef and out to 400 feet. The ISLAMORADA HUMP had some good action and Tunas being caught on small feathers being trolled way behind the boat. When live bait is had to find for live chumming for Tunas, try 20 lb leader with a small feather or squid with a little lead in it. Keep a loose drag and do a zig zag pattern and it will produce fish. The Kingfish have been in 75 to 125 ft of water and the have been some nice 20lb fish caught the last few days.Overall we have some great action in Islamorada right now and we should start seeing the Tarpon show up here in the next few weeks and also the Permit.

Islamorada fishing has slowed down the last week. We are going through a short phase I believe that will turn around any day.The Sailfishing is very slow but we did see 2 Sails today that we tossed baits at that would not eat.I do believe that we will get one more blast of fish before the season is over and we just need a good northeast wind with the current pushing in on the reef and we should see some good Sailfish action. The Kings have been slow the last 5 days but one boat did get some fish today in the 10 lb range. The Tunas were slow on the Islamorada and 409 humps the last few days and the lack of good bait fish like pilchards and cigar minnows around here adds to the problem. There was a good report today from the west hump on the tunas today but that is 25 miles away and you need live pilchards to get the big tunas to bite. There have been a few amberjacks being caught and a few small groupers but remember they are not in season now.Yellowtails were good for us 2 days ago and we got one reel nice flag and also had a nice 15lb mutton snapper. There have been a few Cobias being caught.
