Have you ever wondered why your spouse, coworkers, or children seem to think so differently from you? You may not understand why they make the decisions they do, or why they place such importance on things that seem inconsequential to you. It is possible to understand the answers to all these questions. The secret lies in the theory of Myers-Briggs personality type.

In the 1960s a psychological theorist named Katharine Briggs had many of the same questions you do. She wondered why some of her family members had such logical, linear thinking processes, when she herself was more likely to take values and feelings into account when considering an issue. In her research with her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers, she looked into this question and others, and discovered four central aspects of personality. Each one of us can be classified as either:

Extroverted/IntrovertedDo you get your energy from being with people, or being alone?
Sensing/IntuitiveDo you see whats actual, or whats possible?
Thinking/FeelingDo you make decisions with your head or your heart?
Judging/PerceivingDo you like to make decisions, or keep your options open?

Our classifications on each of the scales is combined to make a four-letter type, for instance, ENTP, or ISFJ. There are sixteen types in all, encompassing all possible combinations.

With so many possibilities, you can imagine how much potential for misunderstanding there is with those around us! If we marry, or parent, or even work with someone who is very different from us, we can become increasingly baffled as to how their minds work. The key to unlocking the mystery and understanding those around us is to first understand yourself.

Where do you think you fall on the scales listed above? It can be difficult to decide, but fortunately the creators of this theory have also created a scientifically validated assessment that can tell you where you fall. This personality test is called the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and is the most accurate and efficient way to identify your own type. Most recently it has become available in an online format, which allows convenient access to anyone wishing to discover more about themselves. The official Myers-Briggs Type Indicator can be used to produce several different types of reports, from basic to detailed, all of which you can refer to as you learn more about your own Type.

Once you have discovered your Type, you can begin to think about how others may differ. If you are an extrovert, you may be surprised when others want to leave a social gathering or end a conversation before you do. It doesnt mean theyre unfriendly or not having a good time; its just that introverts rely on their alone time to recharge. As another example, if youre a Thinker, you may mistrust people who seem to make decisions based on their gut or their feelings rather than logic. But turn this around and youll realize that your own decisions may seem cold and uncaring to someone who is a Feeling type. There is no right or wrong; only individual preferences.

The world is made up of many types, and this is for the best! We need people who are gregarious, and those that are content to live much of their lives independently. We need visionaries with their heads in the clouds, and people who will take care of all the details. We need planners, and people who fly by the seat of their pants; when making decisions we need both someone to remind us of the logic of the situation and someone to help us do a gut check. Learning more about personality types can help you appreciate all the variation youll see around you. Most importantly, it will help you use your differences to everyones benefit.

Watching the news the other day, it occurred to me that people who have “words to live by” often begin to attack and even kill others. I thought back to my own angry youth, when I could easily use words to justify violent thoughts which might have become violent actions. Words are tools, and yet it seems that they can be more dangerous than gunpowder.

Imagine two men facing each other, pointing past one another. One is pointing at a tornado that is coming, and the other at a raging fire headed towards them. Each sees their own truth and is angry at the sight of the other’s hand. Each feels that the other’s hand is “wrong.” This may seem silly, but replace the tornado and fire with any modern issues, and the hands with words, and this scene describes how we often try to communicate.

We point past each other with our words, arguing as though we are looking at the same facts and experiences. We want to prove our words are the right ones, instead of learning to look at what the other’s words are pointing at. Words are seductive, and for all their undeniable usefulness, they also can lead us away from understanding when we focus on them, when we make them more important than the truth they are meant to point at.

There Are No Words To Live By

This isn’t just about communication with others. We focus on, and get trapped in a net of words that we use to explain the world to ourselves. We call things “right” or “wrong” for example, according to how they compare to our “definitions.” Unlike mathematics, though, word formulas and definitions can never be so precise. They cannot encompass the whole truth of reality. For example, with the least effort, you can create a circumstance where “stealing” would be right, and “helping” someone wrong.

This isn’t an argument against using language or logic. It is just that both only go so far. Like a car that takes you across the country or world, they are useful, but like a car, they are only useful in certain ways, and you have to get out of them when you arrive at your various destinations. Taking a car to the lake isn’t a problem, but taking it into the lake is. This is what we do when our words and logic take us to dangerous situations.

Can having words to live by be dangerous, though? Absolutely. I once heard an otherwise compassionate person say he was against animal cruelty laws because he couldn’t find a logical and defensible set of words to defend them. If he saw a new machine, would he refuse to believe it existed until he could explain it and describe it? Reality, and the reality of right and wrong exist outside of words – they are not the words themselves.

I watched a man say on the evening news that we have the right to drop a nuclear bomb on Iraq, and that we should. As he explained why, you could see that whatever compassionate impulses he had, they were over-ruled by his total allegiance to his words, logic, and where these take him. It never occurred to him that maybe there is truth outside of his words and logic.

It’s great to have guidelines, like “don’t lie,” or “we have the right to defend ourselves.” It is even better to remember that these rules will someday fail us, and we will have to make new ones. Words are just tools. There are words to die by, but there are no words to live by.

When people are accused of a crime, they should find a defense attorney right away. Most attorneys who are criminal defenders usually find their clients in great danger of going to jail or being sentenced to death. A good criminal defense lawyer will represent anyone committed with a crime to the best of his or her ability. Sometimes the lawyer can choose to quit a case if they have a personal conflict while dealing with the case, but a lawyer cannot leave their client hanging.

If a lawyer in America to get off a case, they must be able to find a replacement lawyer that can do the job. Many times an attorney will realize that they are working for the wrong side and will withdraw from the case. However, if they dont have another criminal defense attorney to replace them they can be disbarred and lose their practicing license. A good defense attorney will also try to negotiate with prosecutors for lesser sentencing or reduced charges. This is called a deal in the legal world and depending on the seriousness of the crime, a deal may not be offered or accepted by the D.A. or district attorney.

Criminal defense attorneys do so much more than examine witnesses and argue in court. They also formulate sentencing programs that are fixed to the clients needs like offering rehab instead of jail time. They also make sure that the defendant knows the reality of the situation and the stakes that in the case.

Many times, this is when the defendant could possible get the death penalty. In some cases, they will tell the client to fight or give in depending on the stakes. They are also familiar with all important laws because there are so many loopholes in the system. A good lawyer knows how to find the loopholes so that they can win the case. They are also familiar with the rules and procedures of court.

They know what the prosecutor, the jury wants to hear, and they state them all in their opening and closing statements. They also understand hidden costs of pleading guilty like how it will affect their clients life for the end of time they will be marked as a felon. A good defense attorney will spend special time on all their cases with all effort to win. Many will represent anyone who can afford their services, while some pick and choice based on rather they can win.

Good defense attorneys will chose clients that they honestly believe and that they honestly want to help rather or not the client is guilty or innocent. A good defense attorney will follow their code of ethics and go for cases that are important to them. A good defense attorney will spend hours thinking about the possible questions that their client will be asked, as well as, the questions that they will ask the prosecutions witnesses. This may require an investigation team so that they can find information that will make every witness that is against the defendant less creditable. They will try to do whatever it takes to represent their clients to their fullest capabilities.

What A German Language School Can Do For You

German is not always the first choice for people looking to learn a foreign language. But maybe it should be. German is spoken by more than 100 million people in 38 countries around the world. Most of the world’s German speakers are in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, but there are also significant numbers of German speakers in the United States and South America. That’s a lot of German speakers, and a lot of reasons to learn German. Here are five reasons to consider attending a German language school.

1. Learn German For Business
Germany is the third largest industrial nation in the world and a major exporter. Learning German will help business people to improve their prospects of doing business in German-speaking countries. And while it may be true that many Germans speak English as well as, if not better than, many native English speakers, those who learn German will have the advantage of understanding what is said in its original context. Many German language schools offer classes specifically designed to help business people learn German. These include classes dealing with speaking on the telephone, negotiations and presentations.

2. Learn German For Travel
In addition to the three major European countries where German is a native language, German is a second language for many countries across Eastern Europe. Those planning to travel in Romania, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Russia or Kazakhstan may find it useful to learn German to communicate in those regions. There are many websites that offer free language lessons to help travelers learn basic German phrases. However, for a more intensive course, travelers could learn German in Berlin or another part of Germany.

3. Learn German For Tourism
With three major language centers and many other German-speaking regions, German is a key language for those seeking to work in the tourist industry. Some German language schools offer courses aimed at professionals in different industries which will also help those in the tourist trade. This is key not just for those planning to work within Germany, but for those planning to work with the millions of German-speaking tourists who travel the globe each year.

4. Learn About German Culture
German culture is more than beer and lederhosen. Germany has a rich cultural heritage. Many great thinkers, such as Freud and Einstein, were German. Many of the most respected classical composers came from Germany. There is a lot to do in Germany, from exploring towns with a centuries-old history to seeing the wonders of modern engineering technology. Those who study in Germany will find that this gives an inside view of many aspects of German culture.

Where Should I Learn German?
Although there are plenty of German classes available in most countries, a good option is to study in Germany at a German language school. This means that students will learn by immersion, hearing German spoken both inside and outside the classroom. This is a good way to learn German fast and correctly. There are German language schools around the country. One option is to study in Berlin. Not only does Berlin have many universities and educational institutions, but it also has a rich cultural history and many sights to see. This makes study in Berlin a good option for learning German.

Bodybuilding and bulking up muscle is something which appeals to large numbers of people. Much has been written about it in books and the media, and we are now seeing large numbers of instructional videos and DVDs being produced. You need to know what you are doing, however, so here are some tips for bodybuilding and bulking up.

Tip 1
Bodybuilding, bulking up, whichever way you want to put it, can be done in your home, but you will probably achieve better results by training in a proper gym, with free weights. When you make the effort to travel to a gym, it helps prepare you mentally for the workout, and the professional surroundings will stimulate you to give your best effort. Gym work is usually far more effective then home work.

Tip 2
Don’t overlook cardiovascular work. Bodybuilding and bulking up will no doubt take up much of your time and energy, but they will be so much more effective if they are done from a solid base of aerobic fitness. Cardiovascular work will vastly improve your muscle tone, as well as your general health. Because of this, you will be increasing your chances of living longer, as the one muscle which you cannot afford to be weak is your heart.

Tip 3
Make good use of nutrition bars. Regular intake of the nutrients needed for bodybuilding or bulking up is vital, yet with the pressures of modern life there are bound to be times where meals are missed. This will doubtless impair your progress, and could even stop your muscle growth. Nutrition bars will help you fill that gap. The only danger of having such a convenient source of nutrition is over-reliance. Nutrition bars are not as nutritionally rich as a proper meal, so only use them when necessary.

Tip 4
Another useful bodybuilding/bulking up tip is to get into some creatine. The entire subject of creatine intake is very involved, and would take more than just an article to explain. Red meat is the only natural source of creatine, and it is an abundant supplier of energy to the muscles.

Homeschool parents benefit from technology to enhance and complement traditional ways of teaching on school campus. There are several educational software and teaching packages that can help develop a curriculum. The internet is a very useful means that is full of educational resources; online dictionaries, libraries, encyclopedias and museums.

Depending on your State’s homeschooling law, the following may apply:

1. School officials can inquire about the parents qualifications to instruct or teach their child; however instructing parents do not necessarily need to have a particular educational qualification. A high school graduate or less can instruct the child, provided that she has the capability and a sound mind.

2. Children in the elementary level should be taught the following: English, which includes reading, spelling and writing; math, geography, science, civics, history, physiology and health, music, physical education and art.

3. Children in the high school level, should be taught the following: English, which includes speech, language, literature and composition, science which will include chemistry and biology; social studies, geography, economics, history of the U.S.A, world history, mathematics which will include algebra, geometry and statistics; music, art, physiology and health, physical and safety education.

4. School officials can inquire regarding subjects that the child should study, demand the length of homeschool year, and allocate instruction hours for every subject.

While they can determine instruction hours for every subject, they should not control the method in which these subjects are to be taught.

This means that homeshooling parents can determine and evaluate instruction hours based on their method of homeschool, not necessarily to be able to imitate the public school, rather equal and match it according to efficiency and systematic approach.

In homeschooling, it is up to the parent to determine the childs intellectual needs. Subjects to be taught do not require specific hours of teaching, although each subject needs an allotted time, in order for the child to absorb fully what is taught.

Moreover, schedule keeping is not a significant factor in homeschooling where usage and understanding of time are so much different.

5. School officials can recognize and classify instructional materials, only for the reason of determining the subject and the childs grade or level. They should not utilize this right to demand the way or style of teaching, with which subjects are to be taught.

When the child is having difficulty in a certain subject, for instance in reading, then the parent should allow longer hours for reading allowing the child enough time to learn that particular subject.

On the subject that the child willingly and easily learns and grasps, the parent may shorten the time spent on that subject and allocate the extra hours for subjects which the child finds hard to comprehend, to subjects that the child poorly progresses on.

At homeschooling, the child can take the time to learn and explore each subject at his/her own speed, in his or her own capacity. And the parent can find creative ways to make learning and teaching fun.

A few efficient and helpful teaching materials that are not tangible, such as community service, travel, visits to parks and museums, etc., will definitely grant significant learning skills and knowledge aside from those learned from books.

6. Parents and school officials must reach an agreement on a system of evaluation or assessment for the child; either standardized testing, periodic reports on the childs progress or dated samples of work.

Determine your child’s learning ability and style so that:

1. You’ll know what approach to use or be well equipped in teaching them. It is a wrong notion that some parents have, to presume that their kids learn the way they do. For example, when parents are visual learners, they also expect their children to be visual learners. Just remember that children are different individuals; usually having distinct learning styles compared to their parents and even their siblings. The sooner that you learn and comprehend each childs learning style the sooner that you can effectively teach them.

2. You’ll be prepared to decide on a curriculum for homeschooling. If you are not familiar with your childs learning styles, there is the possibility that you will select a curriculum that can not be an effective tool for your childs learning.

3. You can better identify and understand your childs educational needs. When children fail to effectively communicate, they, much like everyone else, get upset and discouraged. However, if you understand your childs learning styles, you can be able to assist your child to understand themselves better, enabling them to interact and correspond better with their peers.

Understanding their learning styles and their capabilities will enable you to determine how many hours they need for each subject; homeschooling does not require strict hours of teaching your child in any subject. It all depends on how well your child progresses; if he can do his math in less time in regard to the curriculum set for him, then good. If you feel he needs to spend more time in reading, then he should.

With fossil fuel prices expected to continue increasing, many people are nervous about future heating bills. Using biomass as an alternative is becoming particularly popular. As strange as it may sound, corn is a popular fuel.

Not Just For Movies Anymore

As mentioned by President Bush in his State of the Union speech, the United States has a bad oil addiction. Throw in the negative environmental impact of using fossil fuels, and it becomes apparent a change is needed. As we look around for alternative energy sources, biomass is becoming a popular choice. Biomass is simply energy derived from the burning of bio fuels such as animal waste and excessive crops.

As people starve around the world, it is sadly ironic that we have a major surplus of corn. Corn makes an excellent biomass power source. This is because corn packs a serious amount of energy in each kernel. When used with a heating system, they produce as much heat as traditional furnaces, but at a much lower cost.

Biomass corn energy is produced using dry shelled corn as the power source. Unlike the edible variety, the corn does not have to be of high quality stock. Pretty much any shelled corn will do so long as it is dry and free of husk fibers.

Corn is turned into heat for a home much the same way as wood. The process involves a fired stove with corn being used instead of wood. If youre picturing standing in the snow with a shovel, you will be happily disappointed. These days, shelled corn is delivered to your home where it is stored in a tank. As the heating system requires additional fuel, a thermostat senses the loss in temperature and opens a door in the storage tank. A pre-set amount of corn falls into the furnace and, ta da, you have more fire and more heat. The heat is then piped into the home through the same duct system used with an electric heating system.

Generally, burning corn for heat will cost you half as much as oil produced energy, 30 percent less than coal produced heat and 70 percent less than heat produced with natural gas. If youre buying energy to heat your house from a utility company, converting to a corn can save you as much as 75 percent.

At first mention, using corn as a fuel source might seem out there. In truth, it is the most searched type of furnace on the Internet. That should tell you something about its popularity and viability.

In this day and age, more people are turning to online colleges to obtain accelerated degrees that will help enhance their careers. With fast degrees, you can obtain a college education in less time than ordinary degree programs would take. There are many benefits to furthering your education in this manner, and many online colleges and universities are starting to offer accelerated degrees in many courses of study, including business, accounting and several others. If youre interested in pursuing one of these fast degrees, its important to keep several things in mind before committing to a course of study.

When pursuing accelerated degrees via distance education, you can finish your course of study up to 50% quicker than a traditional degree program would take. Whats more, these fast degrees are generally much less expensive because they can be delivered quickly through a variety of educational mediums. Accelerated degrees arent generally for everyone. Usually, these programs are designed for adult learns with a desire to enhance their career field with a degree they can complete in less time than a traditional institution would require. Because you can bring your own life experiences to the table, fast degrees are ideal for the working professional with a desire to better themselves in the workforce.

While many people will attempt to tell you that online learning is easier than learning through a traditional class room setting, this is actually a myth. To succeed in an accelerated degree program requires intense motivation, self discipline and a high level of determination to achieve your educational goals. Whats more, its important to learn how to manage your time effectively between juggling a career, home life and school. While accelerated degrees offer convenience and a chance to study at your own pace, these fast degrees require as much work and concentration as a traditional program of study would.

Because with accelerated degrees you are learning a vast amount of material within a small time frame, its easier to remember the information you learn because its delivered over a period of weeks rather than months. This type of course structure requires intense concentration, but youre able to focus on one specific topic, and the information is delivered in a highly condensed format. The convenience just cant be beat as far as fast degrees go, and youre able to learn a wide variety of things in a short amount of time compared to a traditional classroom setting.

Obtaining an accelerated degree from an online college is not for everyone. Before you commit to an online program, you need to take a look at yourself and analyze your situation. Do you possess a proactive personality? Are you willing to complete tasks on your own without someone holding your hand along the way? To be truly successful in this type of program, you need to be a very independent individual. As long as you have the motivation and desire to succeed, you can achieve anything you want through an online degree.

Provided you do all of your research before jumping into the college waters, youll be able to find an accelerated degree program that works for you. With accelerated online degrees, you need to have the ability to manage your time effectively, because its very easy to get behind in your coursework if you arent keeping up with the rest of the class. Fast degrees are definitely a convenient way to further your education online in a shorter amount of time, but online study requires an intense amount of drive and focus. If you have the willingness and desire to get the work done, you will succeed in obtaining an accelerated degree online.

All this time, people or professionals only talk about ways to lower your cholesterol. But, have they really explained to you the significant details about cholesterol that you need to know before trying to lower the level?

If they havent, these 5 basic facts about cholesterol are important for you:

1. Cholesterol Levels

There are actually five different ways that you can use in order to get a complete reading on your own cholesterol levels and they are: total cholesterol levels, HDL, LDL, total/HDL ratio, LDL/HDL ratio.
Measurement units for checking your cholesterol are conducted as milligrams per deciliter.

Your overall desired level should be below 200 mg/dL, 200 to 240 for a borderline level and total risk above level 240.

2. HDL Level

HDL stands for High Density Lipoproteins. It is actually just a section of your overall cholesterol.
The normal range of HDL level for men about 40 to 50 mg/dL, and for women 50 to 60 mg/dL.
The higher it is the better. Their role in our body is to carry cholesterol away from the body as soon as LDL has brought it. Theyre the ones that help you reduce the risk of heart disease and cardiac problems.

3. LDL Level

LDL stands for Low Density Lipoproteins. When it comes to LDL, you prefer the level to be low. Why? Because they can clog arteries and kill us. Thats why they are called bad cholesterol.

Yet, the balance between HDL and LDL is what gives us general health.

4. How to Lower Your Cholesterol

The alternatives to using drugs are natural cholesterol reducers which could also be found in many whole foods.

One of them is garlic. Garlic is considered a natural reducer because it acts as an inhibitor. The other one is omega 3. Fish oils with their omega-3-fatty acids are also known to reduce heart disease by at least 40%.

5. Risk Factors for High Cholesterol

There are some risk factors that might cause high cholesterol that youd better avoid.

Fast foods, chips, soft drinks, candy bars, refined sugars, butter cream, fried cheese, fried dough, and cotton candy are foods that weve been enjoying since we were kids. But, they are the foods that can contribute to your high cholesterol.

They taste delicious in our mouth but they are harmful for our health. Dont let a little joy hurt you. Diabetes, kidney disease, liver disease, hyperthyroidism are just some of the dangers that these foods can cause; high cholesterol is just another side effect.

However, this above basic knowledge will be easier to apply if you have decided to lead a healthy lifestyle. Make sure that you wont suffer from any disease only because of your ignorance of health.
