Another Quick Update.

lots has happened. and then again, not much has happened.

has happened: i am now working for republic parking system as an office manager. we manage the parking concerns for OU medical center in oklahoma city. better gig than the bank. but not what i want to do with my life. we joined beal heights pca in lawton. the drive precluded us from being the members we vowed we be. we just couldn't be as involved in the body as we wanted. so we joined northwest Bible church. she is reformed in her soteriology. there are things with about which we and the session dissagree. we have made a compromise or two but still feel that it was the right thing to do. the preaching is solid. the fellowship is a blessing. we are praying for further reformation in our church.

hasnt happened: i still dont know what im gonna do when i grow up. i still dont have an expressed call on my life to teach, therefore at this time there will be no reformcast. i still havent begun my next recording project.

Just a Quick Update

greetings, all! i'm still alive and still in oklahoma city. still working at the bank and still looking for something else.

the bookstore idea has not materialized. homeschoolers, while very interested in our idea, would not have spent enough money in the store to support the store and the family. i guess that's what business plans are for. in the process of gathering data for the business plan, we figured out we couldn't make a go of it.

however, i do have something looming. i have started my own business! its called Pro Mobil. I am now a mobile dj, working parties and receptions and what not. if you're throwing a party in the okc metro and want great music with tasteful and unobtrusive banter, give me a call. the website is www.promobilmusic.com. my business email is kyle "at" promobilmusic.com. for now, the website is just kind of a placeholder. i plan on putting up a proper website soon.

the dj gig is a great fit for me as it's real working hours are limited to a couple hours a day spent drumming up parties and friday and saturday nights actually working the parties. so, that frees up my time to do....other things...such as....the reformcast. maybe. we're still trying to decide exactly what to do church membership-wise. but i think there will be a decision soon. and among the many positives of the possible decision is: the place at which we are looking would be very interested in supporting and overseeing the reformcast.

one thing that has lit a fire under me concerning the reformcast is the new garageband features that apple just announced. the reformcast, if it is ressurrected, should be better with these features.

Update on Reformcast and me.

hey there everyone. i just wanted to jot a quick note and let everyone know where things stand and what my plans are.

firstly, i stand behind my reasoning for pulling the plug of the reformcast. i still haven't found a church home for the family and therefore don't have any elders directly over me, giving oversight for a "teaching/instruction" type thing like the podcast. i still miss the reformcast and would love to start it up again. i'm just waiting for the Lord to lead us to a church home.

secondly, as to our plans... we have been visiting knox (opc) here in oklahoma city. great folks. and they just called a preacher who will soon be installed. we'll have to see if we will fit with them and them with us. so... as soon as we are grounded in a church and that session gives the approval of the reformcast, i plan on starting up again!

if anyone knows of a church in oklahoma city that is presbyterian, tr, post mil, theonomic, rpw etc... please let me know!

also, we are in the planning stages of opening a bookstore here in okc. we plan on it being a christian/homeschool/theology bookstore. should be interesting. we have had great feedback from potential customers and are currently scouting locations and will soon be putting together a business plan. please pray for us.

the plug is pulled

Greetings again all,

After much thought and prayer, I have decided to stop production of the ReformCast. While I have enjoyed the last couple of months of production, I have come to some realizations that preclude me from continuing.

First and definitely foremost, not all are apt to teach and, since I am among those who are not, it would be wrong of me to use the podcast medium to do so. Let me explain. In I Timothy 3:2, God tells us that “an overseer must be…able to teach.” The fact that this is a qualification for eldership means that not all possess it. The question remains, though, do I have this ability or not? Maybe so. But more to the point, even if I do, should I be teaching God’s Word? Should I be instructing others in theology? Am I an elder? (no) Should I be an elder?

After removing myself from the care of my presbytery, having determined that I am not called to be an elder, there was no opposition from the presbytery, my session or my family. This, to me is a clear indicator that I am not called (at least at this time) to be an elder. And since, I believe that it is elders/ trained men who are charged with instructing the church, I think it is time I pull the plug.

You see, the internet has become a place where those who, for whatever reason, do not hold to an office in the church yet still want to promulgate their theories and understandings amongst the saints. I think this is shameful. God has ordained certain and clear methods for instructing the Church, and for me to fail at achieving the requirements to do that and use a side-door method of instruction is foolish at best, subversive at worst.

The answer to, “am I an elder?” is obviously no. Therefore (and this should be equally obvious) while I am not an elder I shouldn’t act like one.

It has been well over a year since I removed myself from being under care of presbytery. It is high time I just shut up and listen. The church needs more people who are willing to shut up and follow. We have far too many people who want to take the reigns. I’m sick of myself for being one of the latter.

So what does that mean for me? It means that im not sure what to do with my life, career-wise. I know I’m not supposed to be working in a bank. But what it is that I am supposed to be doing I’m not sure. In the coming weeks, I might determine to pursue the ministry properly (again). Trouble with that is, the seminaries with which I am familiar either won’t have me or I won’t have them. But, we’ll see. I plan on exploring some more creative ventures like doing more recording, maybe some art projects with Jolly. I plan on being more involved in our homeschool. And I plan on being more content with where God has placed me.

This began as a letter of notification for ReformCast. It kinda turned into a “what am I doing with my life” letter. If anyone has any suggestions, I’m willing to hear your counsel. And if anyone wants to hire me to work from my home, I’d be way into that.

no ReformCast this week.

greetings all.

what a week. my trusty powerbook was a little worse for the ware and, while i still have warranty left, i took it in for service.

that, coupled with a lack of air conditioning, alongside 100 degree temperatures, holding hands with me having stayed up way late everynight this week has resulted in me having no time/gumption/desire for a podcasting session this week.

the future of the ReformCast will be examined and evaluated over the weekend.

Ready, Set....

ok, i figured out the problem. ok that was a lie. i didn't figure squat out. i just went upstairs and tried again and it worked....mysteriously. hmmmm. i won't question it. it worked.

so, i recorded the theme music. i have a little bit of mixing to do on that.

tonight, i plan on recording the first episode. so, we should be up and running by tomorrow, Lord willing.

Podcast Delay

Ok, things aren't good. I got all fired up to begin recording the bumper music and get going on the first episode of the ReformCast and....uh......

My computer is acting really funny. Not funny-haha mind you. Funny-strange. Actually, not even funny-strange. More like funny-Kyle is getting ready to chuck it out the upstairs window. The sound card is working, both receiving and sending sound. But, while it is registering that my mixer is plugged in, it is not sending any sounds from it.....blahbityblahblahblah....I'm frustrated.

So, it looks like there'll be a longer wait for the ReformCast. Crud, by the time I get this thing off the ground, podcasting will be passe.

I'll post when I:

A. have fixed the problem

B. know what exactly is wrong

C. have tested the aerodynamics of my laptop

this is my first post. i wonder how many first posts start this way. lame really.

this will be the blog to host ReformCast. im hoping to be the first and best podcast from a distinctly reform perspective. along with family friends and even, if the Lord leads, special guests, we'll be examining culture, offering readings, hosting debates, and, in general, holding every thought captive to the Word.

the blog will be a place for further reflection, shownotes and links mentioned on the podcast, as well as a place for folks to leave feedback.

to make my first post a little more meaty than just an announcment, i'll offer some random musings.

just paid a small fortune (relatively speaking of course) fixing the plumbing here at el casa de dixon. seems we always buy older homes from do it yerselfers who really didn't have a clue how to do anything themselves. but, the toilets flush and the kitchen is no longer filled with sewer gas. (yes it was that bad)

i hear (through john robbins) that steve wilkins was just cleared of heresy charges in his presbytery. interesting indeed. i will have some examples as to why i think this particular presbytery made a mistake...you'll just have to wait for the first podcast.

and, all this just as we're preparing to re-join the pca. that's right. we're planning on joing Christ the King in norman oklahoma.

well, thats all for now. posts should be more interesting and closely tied to the ReformCast podcasts.
