Tuesday nights are fun filled with God's word and games! Pastor-led Bible study over Mark continues this week at 9pm.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY WILL NOW BE AT 9pm until further notice.
As always worship services are at 8am and 10:30am on Sunday mornings.

Tonight we will continue our pastor-led Bible study over the book of Mark.
Tomorrow night Melissa and I will lead a continuation of last weeks Bible study on Genesis.
Thursday night is Dinner for $1, with a menu yet to be decided.
As always we have open lounge hours Monday - Thursday 6 - 9pm and two worship services on Sunday mornings. Traditional service at 8am and Contemporary service at 10:30am.

Welcome Back Information for Fall 2011!

Hello Refuge Members!

Fall semester is just around the corner and I urge you to take the time to read about some of the fantastic things we have coming up.

First off we are handing out WATER BOTTLES this Thursday. Meet us at church at 8:30 am to hand out free water bottles, loaded with information about Refuge and our upcoming events, to our fellow students moving in.

Friday we will have a table at FRIDAY FEST, as usual. If you're looking to help, shoot me a FB message.

Sunday is jam packed with interesting things to occupy yourself. Immanuel Lutheran Church starts two separate services for fall, 8:00 am and 10:30 am. Followed by PANCAKES and a TOUR OF CAMPUS for new students and all students to help point out where buildings and classrooms are.

At 5:00pm on Sunday, is our annual WELCOME BACK BBQ with free food, fun, and fellowship.

We dive right back into weekly activities next week as classes start:

Monday - Thursday are open LOUNGE HOURS from 6pm - 9pm. Don't forget about the tv, stereo, computer, wii, wifi, and interesting people to talk to.

Tuesday night we start our PASTOR LED BIBLE STUDY at 9pm. This year we will me studying the book of Mark! Gaming is almost certain to follow.

Wednesday night is the first of a STUDENT LED BIBLE STUDY at 8pm. Melissa Miller and I will lead a weekly topical bible study. The theme for the year is an overview of the Bible.

Thursday night is DINNER FOR A DOLLAR! Only a dollar gets you a full stomach and fantastic fellowship. Soup's up at 5:30pm, so don't dilly dally!

Keep a look out for the next weekly update and information about a Refuge Camping Trip in September.

Good luck to all at the beginning of a new school year. I look forward to seeing all of you and your shining faces around Refuge this year.

NIU at rest

Hey all! NIU is out on summer break and the campus is quiet... perhaps a bit too quiet! The Church is still open Monday - Thursday (8:30am -4:30pm) and we will gather for worship on Sundays at 9am for a single "blended" style service until mid August. We always love summer visitors so stop by and say hello! If you are a new NIU family out in DeKalb for orientation, look for Pastor Marty Marks who will be working many of the NIU orientation sessions or simply stop by the church and introduce yourself, we'd love to get acquainted so that we can help when the fall comes.
As always, may this time of year be one of spiritual growth and development! The Lord is good!

We are in our last few weeks of the spring semester! While studying and finishing projects ought to be on the top of your list for things to do, if you do need a break, Refuge offers an number of options to relax, including a trip to Matthison State park for hiking on Saturday April 30th, our Graduation breakfast and our Wrigley Field/ Billy Goat tavern trip (click on the calendar or check out the FB events for more details) as well as numerous Bible studies and general relaxation in the lounge. Blessings on your last few weeks of school and may God bless you in your service to Him!

Wed. April 13 is our last Lenten worship service (7pm with dinner at 5:30pm)
Sunday April 14 is Palm Sunday with worship at 8am and 10:30 am.
Thursday April 21 is Maundy Thursday with Communion worship at 7pm
Friday April 22 is Good Friday with worship at 1pm and 7pm
Easter Celebration!!! 7am worship, Easter breakfast immediately following, then worship service at 10:30 am!

Wednesday: We're canceling lounge hours and making a group trip over to the Music Building to attend my recital at 8pm.

Thursday: Dinna' for a Dolla' at 6:30pm. Kate Densford is cooking for us!

Spring break servant trip

Hey all, we are starting to get the plans together for the Spring break servant trip. here are Few FAQ's:

What are the dates? : Depart the morning of Saturday March 12 and return on Sunday March 20^th (Evening)

Where are we going? Chauvin, Louisiana

What will be doing? A combination of Environmental work, human care (helping people in their community) and educational experiences. Plan to get dirty! We will also be doing a Bible study every night and have many adventures on the way down and on the way back including an incredibly fun night in Memphis!

How much will it cost? You will need to pay $100 (if you have real financial issues with this please talk ot pastor Marty) You will also need to buy a couple of meals while driving.

What is covered?: transportation to and from Louisiana, housing, most meals.

What to bring: we’ll send out a packing list later, but plan on clothes that can get dirty and wet. Work boots are a near “must.”

What group are we working with? Where will we stay? See the brochure on the table in the lounge , it describes Bayou grace and BTNEP (Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program). We will be staying in a recreational facility (gym and bunk room) which does have showers.

I hope y'all had a good first week back! I also hope you're staying healthy--I am not. Here's a look at this week at Refuge:

-Monday, we had open lounge from 6 to 9... sorry I didn't get this message out earlier :)

-Tuesday, we will continue our 9pm BIBLE STUDY on the book of Luke, as directed by Pastor Marty. The lounge is open from 6 to 9. Actually, it's open 6 to 9 through Thursday.

-Wednesday, Melissa and I lead another BIBLE STUDY on the topic of THE PROVERBS. We get underway at 8:00.

-Thursday, we hold DINNER FOR A DOLLAR, where you can eat on the cheap! Melissa will be cooking up some ENCHILADAS for us. We open the lounge at 6, but eat around 6:30.

THIS SATURDAY we are holding another BRAILLE-A-THON where we make braille Bibles! At Immanuel, we print volume one of the Psalms, but e'r lil' bit helps. We kick off at 7pm and will provide FREE PIZZA!

Welcome back NIU and Kish!

Happy New Year everyone, and I hope you had a good winter break, especially with the BONUS fifth week off!

I need to tell you about: *a Party, *Bible Studies, *an Ice cream sundae bar, *Usual good stuff, and **CHEAP-AS-FREE dinners**!

First off, I want to call to your attention the WELCOME BACK PARTY on Tuesday, January 18th at 6pm. We will provide Domino's PIZZA and pop, games and fellowship, all for FREE! So come on by the church at 511 Russell rd. after your evening class or any time. And don't forget to stick around for our regular 9pm BIBLE STUDY on the book of Luke.

On Wednesdays this semester, we will have a student-led Bible Study at 8pm, and this week's topic is on PRAYER. I (James) will be co-leading this study with Melissa Crawford. Come here about our prayer mission for 2011! There is also going to be an ice cream sundae bar before/during/after the Bible study, so be sure to make room for dessert.

Thursday, we will ring in the new semester with the return of our weekly DINNER FOR A DOLLAR. Come by the lounge at 6:30 for Liz Gibble's special SPAGHETTI. We will have volunteers cook us their speciality dinners each week. There is a sign-up sheet in the lounge for all you budding chefs out there.

As always, our lounge is open 6pm to 9pm every night for studying, and often might be open later for gaming. And relatively new to the lounge, we do have FREE WIFI!

NIU is on winter break and many of you have returned home. Formal college programing will resume on Tuesday January 18th when classes resume. In the mean time I pray that your walk with the Lord continues during this break. He NEVER takes a break from loving you! Stop in and say "Hi" during the break... DeKalb gets too quiet when NIU is out :)

Hey all,
I pray your finals week goes well and that you see the fruition of your hard work this semester. I pray God's blessings on you during the "finals crunch."
We will still be having Tuesday night Bible study at 9pm this week and the lunge will be open Monday - Thursday evenings for studying.
We will also worship at 7pm for our advent midweek service... refreshments will be served afterward!

What's up, guys!? It's your favorite Crack-a-lackin' with your weekly announcements.

This week will see the continuation of Monday night football, which will take place during the lounge hours of six PM to nine PM this Monday night. The lounge hours, as usual, will be from six PM to nine PM Monday through Thursday.

Come Tuesday, we will continue our nine PM, Pastor-led Bible Study on the book of Luke.

The Thursday night Bible Study (led by Sharpie and Crawdad) will be scheduled for eight PM (as usual) and will focus on the topic of peace.

Join us for Braille-a-thon in the basement of the church this coming Saturday at seven PM. We will be making braille Bibles until midnight!!!

Hey guys (and chicks), it's the Crack-a-lackin' with your weekly announcements, so checkk it out!

This week will contine our weekly lounge hours from six PM to nine PM Monday through Thursday.

Our Pastor-led Bible Study on the book of Luke will continue this Tuesday night at nine PM.

Our student-led Bible Study will continue this Thursday at eight PM (led by Sharpie and Crawdad). This week, we will explore the topic of Heaven and how Heaven is characterized in God's Word.

Our Halloween Party for this year is set for Friday, October twenty-ninth, at seven PM. We are planning on an exciting game of Sardines as well as a scavenger hunt. If you have any other fun and or unique ideas, please let us know!

We will be continuing our annual Trick-or-Treat for Canned Goods on Sunday, October thirty-first.

This week shall continue our normal lounge hours Monday through Thursday from six PM to nine PM.

Our Pastor-led Bible Study of the book of Luke will continue Tuesday (today) at nine PM.

Our student-led Bible will also be this Thursday at eight PM. This week's topic of study will be money.

This Friday, Refuge is taking a trip to the haunted corn maze in the far-away land of Malta. If you are interested in partaking in said journey, meet us at Immanuel at seven PM with your required fee of ten dollars and we will head to said corn maze.

This Saturday after the game will see our Refuge and alumni barbecue, so come hang out with us and stuff yourselves with some epic food!

t's the Crack-a-lackin' here. This time, I have chosen to write the message in (relatively) normal dialect, but watch this message for song lyrics (this means you, Neal).

First off, we at Immanuel are maintaining our normal lounge hours of six PM to nine PM (Monday through Thursday).

This Tuesday at nine PM will continue our Pastor-led Bible Study on the book of Luke.

This Thursday will also continue the student-led Bible study led by Sharpie and Crawdad. This week's topic will be faith expressed through works and services.

This Saturday, we'll be working on serving the Lord by feeding the world as we participate in Feed My Starving Children in Schaumburg. We will meet at Immanuel at two-thirty PM and head for Schaumburg from there.

On Friday, October fifteenth, we shall be hosting our Haunted Corn Maze activity at seven PM. It will be dark and, once again, haunted. However, many of your favorite Refuge members will be there and relying on you to protect them from whatever haunts this maze. And with you guys here with me, when the night has come and the land is dark, and the moon is the only light you see, no, I won't be afraid, just as long as you stand by me. Sooooo..... show up to the Haunted Corn Maze!!!!!!!

Greetings! This day shall mark the return of your favorite Crack-a-lackin' as he returns to tell the tale of what is in store for us in these weeks to come!!!! Sooooo, here's his story!!!!!

This week will continue our lounge hours from six PM to nine PM Monday through Thursday.

Our Pastor-led Bible Study on the gospel of Luke will continue this Tuesday at nine PM.

Our student-led Bible Study will continue this Thursday at eight PM; led by Sharpie and Crawdad. The topic of this week's student-led Bible study will be forgiveness.

Saturday, October ninth, will be the day on which we participate in Feed My Starving Children. We will be meeting at Immanuel at two-thirty PM. We are still trying to recruit more people for this, so if you would like to join in, please let us know!!!!!!!

Tis the Crack-a-lackin' with your announcements, so let's take a tad bit of your time to take a looksy at what we have got 'round the corner.

We will be keeping to our schedule of lounge hours from six PM to nine PM this week Monday through Thursday.

Tuesday at nine PM marks the continuation of our Pastor-led Bible study on the book of Luke.

Thursday at eight PM shall see the continuation of our student-led Bible study with James Miller and Melissa Crawford. This week's focus will be God's Creation.

This Friday, we are to be gathering at the church at five PM for our dashing camping adventure to White Pines State Park. Remember to bring what camping materials you can. If you are in need of said materials, however, talk with us and we will provide them for you.

Saturday, October ninth is Feed My Starving Children. We shall be meeting at the church at 2:30 PM.
