Tommy Emmanuel at the Flynn

Matteo and I went to see Tommy Emmanuel at the Flynn Theater on Friday night. Tommy is an acoustic guitar player extraordinaire from Australia. Many professional guitarists consider him the greatest guitarist in the world. Well, he did not disappoint! An Awesome Show!! He tore up an acoustic version of "Purple Haze" that was just incredible. If you have never seen Tommy play, go check him out on You Tube, specifically his "Guitar Boogie" and "The Tall Fiddler" videos, both of which he played to absolute perfection. You guitar fans will love him. Long Live Tommy! Viva Australia!

Don Ross and Trevor Gordon Hall

Great show at the Opera House last night! Don Ross and Trevor Gordon Hall were both amazing! It is mind-blowing to see what a guy can do with a guitar. Matteo Palmer was great as well. He really set the tone for the night with his set. His original song, "Journey of the Wandering Minstrel", was mesmerizing and haunting and his duet with Trevor on Trevor's song, "Story", was absolutely beautiful. Thank you Vergennes Opera House, thank you to the Farrell's and Allison Rimmer, thank you to Ron Rost, Andy Smith and Rowan Kamman, and thank you to all 3 artists for all you did to provide a very special evening. Please remember to support the Vergennes Opera House.

On Saturday June 15th, guitar virtuosos Don Ross and Trevor Gordon Hall will be performing at the Vergennes Opera House. Don Ross burst onto the acoustic finger-style guitar world in the mid-1980's and has been wowing crowds since. He is the only 2 Time winner of the American Acoustic Guitar Competition and has several critically acclaimed records to his name. Trevor Gordon Hall plays an acoustic finger-style guitar that mixes blues, jazz and world music. His melodies are deep and hypnotic and he has carved out a musical niche with his blend of acoustic guitar and kalimba (finger piano), creating a sound all of his own. The evening of music will begin with a short set by Vergennes' own finger-style guitar player and up and comer, Matteo Palmer, who was able to arrange this show himself. Doors open at 7:30 PM and the show starts at 8 PM. Tickets are $20.00 in Advance and $25.00 at the door. Tickets are available through the Vergennes Opera House. So come out and support the arts and your local Opera House. It will be a fabulous night of music with some of the best acoustic guitarists in the world.

I am really looking forward to the Don Ross/Trevor Gordon Hall show at the Vergennes Opera House on Saturday June 15th. These are two of the best acoustic finger-style guitar players around and they will be performing in our own backyard. Matteo Palmer will be opening and was the person who got this show rolling. It will be another great show like the Acoustic Encounters show last year. We are really hoping for a good crowd to support Don and Trevor. Come on out if you are able.

Matteo Palmer and Will Ackerman

Just a quick shout out for Matteo Palmer. He just laid down 4 more tracks at Imaginary Road Studios last week, upping his total recordings to 8 at this point. He is scheduled to be back in the studio in mid-June and hopes to record 3 or 4 more songs with the plan to have his first CD ready by the end of this year. Nice job Matteo!

Congratulations as well to our friend, Will Ackerman (Grammy Award winning guitarist and founder of Windham Hill Records and Imaginary Road Studio), for recently winning 4 ZMR awards (the Grammy of New Age-World-and Acoustic music, very prestigious in that world). He won 2 ZMR awards for his compilation CD "The Gathering", 1 ZMR Award for his production of the recent Todd Boston CD (Record of the Year) and he was also awarded the very first ZMR Award for "Lifetime Achievement in Music." Very Cool. Way to go Will!

I went to see Smokin' Joe Bonamassa in Concert last night at the Palace Theater in Albany. Holy Toledo can that guy shred a Gibson, and any other stringed instrument he gets his hands on. Joe should be on everybody's short list of greatest guitarists on the planet. No kidding! He played for 2 1/2 hours including an awesome acoustic set to open the show. He then launched into some of the the most Smokin' Hot electric modern blues Rock you have ever heard. Dressed in a black suit and dress shoes, white open collared shirt and amber sunglasses, he was the epitome of "Cool." Well worth the 4 hours of driving.

Matteo Palmer at Recycled Reading

Matteo played a two hour gig last night at Recycled Reading in Bristol. He played magnificently and it turned out to be a great venue. Very intimate and quiet and very comfortable. The venue sets up about a dozen folding chairs with plenty of standing room behind the chairs, providing great sight lines and acoustics. If you ever get a chance to see another performance at Recycled Reading, I recommend going. Melissa, the owner, is a big music fan and she sponsors acoustic type performances on a regular basis. Recycled Reading is also a pretty cool store.

Went to see Soule Monde at Antidote last night. WOW!! Those guys were AWESOME! Keep your eyes posted for them in the future. If you get the chance, you should absolutely go see them. Drummer/keyboard duo and that whole Funk thing. Great stuff. Thank you Soule Monde and thank you Antidote for another great night of music.

John Popper at the Paramount Theater in Rutland

Hey Everybody,

I just wanted to share my experience last night. My son Matteo and I went to the Paramount Theater in Rutland to see an acoustic performance by John Popper and Ben Wilson (lead singer/harmonica god and keyboard player for Blues Traveler, respectively). It was a very cool format, a Live VH1 "Story Tellers." Popper sang and played the sickest acoustic harp I have ever seen while Ben tinckled the ivories on the Grand Piano. The stories were hysterical and both guys were full of personality. At one point, Popper even opened up a Q & A session. Very very cool! Anybody who knows me well, knows that Popper is one of my 2 music heroes and I was in harmonica Nirvana last night. High praise not only to Popper and Wilson, but also to the Paramount Theater for putting on the show. If you have not been to a Paramount show yet, go to one. What a great venue!!!
