You have just discovered this beautiful stress-reducing modality, Reiki, and now you want to share this Japanese Art of healing with the world. What do you do when you lack the confidence to boldly go forward to either share or teach Reiki or both?

I had the odd stacks against me in life. I was always reminded of what I did wrong or what I could not do. By age 12, the words “no” or “you can’t do that” were commonly spoken to me.

Even though I lacked the support growing up, one thing I know is that I was born with a heart of a teacher. I recall at age five getting in trouble in kindergarten, being placed in what today would be called a “time out”. As I sat there watching from the side of the room, away from my classmates, I clearly remember thinking I am going to grow up to be a teacher, and I will teach in a fun and loving way. Despite the challenges in my childhood, I tried to push through my shyness.

In my teens, I started working at an amusement park near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, at a game called “The Fish Pond.” My confidence began to build as my manager, Helen, and I would either sing or encourage guests to come and try to catch a plastic fish to win a prize. An audience of children and parents, I became more comfortable each summer that I worked at the amusement park.

When I approached college with my student teaching experience, I found myself at ease teaching in front of a group of students more than my peers. Time and practice help me achieve a comfortable level at which I can speak in front of my peers without rushing through my presentation.

In January 2020, the death of my sister, Angel, caused a deep shift in me where I suddenly lost my confidence. The idea of presenting and teaching, no matter what the material, became paralyzing. Adding in a global pandemic didn’t help with building my confidence. During the pandemic, I found an opportunity to retake my 200-hour Yoga teacher training online. In practice sessions, being paired up with another classmate to practice cueing is where I found myself stumbling, forgetting sequences, and breaking down in tears as I tried to cue another into the asana warrior two. It was at that moment that fear arose that I would never have the confidence to teach again. I knew something had to change. Then I found Reiki.

I attended a training at the advice of my best friend. Before attending the training, I had never personally experienced a session myself. I just knew I had to go straight to learning about it.

Here, I learned to use Reiki as a daily tool. I was shown ways to help bring healing to myself in addition to helping others. I knew I had to work on myself to be of service to others.

The evening of my level one training, it began. Just for today, I brought in the five Reiki principles and added a sixth, ”Just for today, I will have confidence.” Each night at bedtime, as I lie in bed, a hand on my heart and a hand just two finger widths above my navel center. I invited the Reiki to my solar plexus. I asked the Reiki to assist in my confidence, my willpower, and my resilience. In the beginning, I found myself in tears, wondering when confidence would arrive.

I was consistent and hopeful. I did Self Reiki every night for almost two years until the realization hit me that I may never get over this, and the only way to get over it is to get through it. This is where the rubber met the road. I had to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. I had to start putting myself in situations of offering Reiki and yoga to overcome the fear. Realizing a setback or a failure was really an opportunity to grow.

I asked the Reiki to help me stop creating excuses. I could waste my energy creating a thousand excuses, or I can use my energy to move forward with an experience. Here, I created opportunities to build my confidence. Six years later, with daily Reiki and staying consistent, confidence is something that I no longer lack.

Napoleon Hill once stated, ”The only limitation is that which one sets up in one’s own mind.”

What can you do to help build confidence? Confidence is something you activate within yourself. Reiki can help you.

Here are some tips that may help in building confidence

Take a moment and breathe. Get grounded. Then assess where you are. Maybe you have no idea where you want to go? You just know you need help with confidence to move forward.

Look what you have around you. Think or write down 3 things that are your strengths and how you can work confidence into those strengths.

If you don’t know, write a future letter to yourself, eg. about how proud you are and all the amazing things you want to do.

Look at what is lacking. Maybe you lack family support, maybe you have, like I once did, the odds stacked against you. Know that you have the greatest tool: Reiki.

Reiki every single day or night. Daily Reiki and prayer ask for help wth releasing.

fear of judgment,

fear of success,

fear of rejection

Get used to the word ”No”, you will not be everyone’s cup of tea.

Get comfortable being uncomfortable, actively seek out uncomfortable social situations to overcome fear. Take small steps.

Taking responsibility, ask Reiki to help with those excuses: You can waste your time making thousands of excuses, versus using that energy to move forward with the experience.

Look at a setback as a positive if something goes wrong; see it as an opportunity to grow or build character.

Ask Reiki for authenticity over ego.

Find a Reiki buddy. Someone who can cheer you on and offer support or trade Reiki sessions.

Start with one person. You just need one person to practice with.

Recognizing resonance vs misalignment. Sometimes it may not be a lack of confidence; it may be something you just don’t want to do.

Always make sure to thank the energy.

Building confidence takes time. Give yourself grace. Being consistent and keeping an open heart and an open mind. Go at your own pace. It took me two years and six years to really feel confident to share, speak, and teach. Don’t compare to others. This is your journey, and with Reiki, clarity, and trust, you can become a more confident you. Remember, confidence is consistency with positive feedback.

The Crown chakra, or Sahasrara, is the energy centre of spiritual connection, divine wisdom, and universal consciousness. Located at the top of the head, it governs our sense of purpose, inner peace, and connection to something greater than ourselves.

When the Crown chakra is balanced, we feel a deep sense of trust in life, inner stillness, and spiritual alignment. When blocked or imbalanced, we may feel disconnected, spiritually confused, mentally foggy, or even overly attached to logic or control.

Here are three simple, grounding practices to support the Crown chakra and invite more peace, presence, and spiritual clarity into your life.

1. Crown Chakra Stillness Meditation

This gentle meditation helps you quiet the mind and reconnect with your divine essence.

Find a Comfortable Position: Sit with a straight spine, either cross-legged or in a chair. Rest your hands gently in your lap, palms facing upward in a gesture of receptivity.

Close Your Eyes and Breathe: Take slow, deep breaths-inhale through your nose, exhale through your mouth. With each exhale, release tension and allow yourself to be fully present.

Focus on the Crown: Bring your awareness to the very top of your head. You may feel a gentle tingling or warmth in this area. Simply observe without forcing any sensation.

Visualize Radiant Light: Imagine a thousand-petaled lotus or a brilliant violet or white light descending from above, entering the top of your head and filling your Crown chakra with pure spiritual energy.

Allow yourself to relax audibly – Ahhhhhhhh and let your energy settle.

Expand the Energy: As you continue to breathe, visualize the light expanding, connecting you to the vastness of the universe and higher consciousness. Feel the oneness with the rest of the cosmos.

Gently Return: After 10-20 minutes, slowly bring your awareness back to your body. Wiggle your fingers and toes, and gently open your eyes. Take a moment to reflect on your experience.

Over time, this meditation builds a stronger connection with your higher self and the divine.

2. Movement and Mindfulness to Anchor Spiritual Connection

The Crown chakra thrives when we balance stillness with mindfulness in motion and daily life.

Yoga
Practice gentle yoga or mindful walking to integrate spiritual energy into the body.

Tree Pose (Vrikshasana) helps you ground while reaching upward -symbolizing spiritual aspiration.

Lotus Pose (Padmasana): Sit cross-legged with a straight spine, fostering deep relaxation and spiritual connection.

Headstand (Shirshasana): Inversions increase blood flow to the crown, stimulating the chakra and promoting clarity.

Mindfulness during simple tasks—eating, brushing your teeth, or walking—bringing full awareness to each movement.

Spend time in nature, especially under open skies, to feel more expansive and connected.

These practices help spiritual connection feel embodied, accessible, and grounded in daily life.

3. Further Support for the Crown Chakra

Subtle energy tools can support the balance and opening of the Crown chakra.

Crystals: Work with selenite, clear quartz, or amethyst. Place a crystal above your head during meditation or keep one near your pillow during sleep.

Essential Oils: Use high-frequency oils like frankincense, sandalwood, or lotus. Diffuse them during meditation or apply a drop (diluted) to the crown for a calming, spiritual lift.

Journaling to Open the Crown Chakra

Do I see my body, mind and energy as separate entities?

Do I see myself as separate from the earth and the people around me? What if we were all part of the same whole, would anything change in how I behave or feel?

When have I felt most aligned with my purpose?

What thoughts or beliefs might be limiting my spiritual growth?

How can I invite more peace, trust, and surrender into my daily life?

The Crown chakra reminds us that we are more than our physical bodies and mental thoughts—we are connected to something vast, wise, and loving. Through daily spiritual practice, inner stillness, and conscious presence, we can nurture this sacred connection and live with greater purpose, clarity, and peace.

Reiki is often spoken of as simple, natural, and effortless. Hands are placed, the breath softens, the heart grows quiet, and something greater than the thinking mind begins to move. Yet beneath this beautiful simplicity lies a deeper stream, one that many practitioners only begin to recognize after months or years of practice. That stream is ritual.

For some, the word ritual can feel heavy, even intimidating. It may suggest rules, formality, or complicated procedures. But in Nicholas Pearson’s reflections on Reiki, ritual is not presented as something rigid or restrictive. It is presented as something living. Something intimate. Something transformative. As he says, “The goal, I think, of all ritual is to experience something transcendent, something that is both here and now and beyond the here and now.”

This understanding opens a doorway for Reiki practitioners. Ritual is no longer about doing something in a prescribed way for its own sake. It becomes a means of crossing from distraction into presence, from ordinary awareness into sacred participation. It becomes a way of remembering that Reiki is not only something we practice, but something we enter and ultimately something we live.

Reiki and the Hidden Power of Ritual

Many Reiki practitioners move through their practice without fully realizing how much ritual is already woven into the system. The gestures may seem so natural, so familiar, that their deeper significance is easy to miss. Yet the quiet actions that surround Reiki are not accidental. They create atmosphere. They gather attention. They prepare the inner world for healing.

It may begin with bringing the palms together in Gasshō. It may be the instinctive pause before treatment, the quiet straightening of the room, the smoothing of the sheets, the inward prayer, the soft exhale before the hands make contact. It may be the recitation of the precepts or the gratitude offered at the end of a session. These moments can appear small from the outside, but inwardly they are powerful. Each one marks a crossing.

Nicholas expresses this with great clarity: “We enter a ritual space, just like we enter ritual consciousness.”

This is one of the hidden gifts of Reiki ritual. It teaches us that healing does not begin only when energy is felt. It begins when presence returns. The busy mind loosens its grip. The body receives permission to soften. Attention, which has been scattered into the demands of daily life, gathers again into the heart of the moment.

In a world shaped by haste, noise, and constant interruption, this transition is deeply spiritual. It is not merely preparation. It is medicine. To pause with reverence is already to begin healing.

Reiki Itself Is the Ritual

One of Nicholas Pearson’s most profound insights is also one of his simplest: “So the argument that we don’t need any rituals to practice Reiki as hands-on healing is correct. But that’s because Reiki itself is the ritual.”

This transforms the conversation completely. Rather than seeing ritual as something added onto Reiki, we begin to see that Reiki is itself a sacred threshold. The moment a practitioner becomes still, brings awareness inward, and allows Reiki to flow, they are already participating in ritual. They are crossing from activity into receptivity, from effort into surrender.

That shift is not merely psychological. It is spiritual. It is the quiet recognition that something holy can be encountered in the here and now, through the body, through touch, through breath, through attention.

This is part of Reiki’s enduring beauty. It does not require complexity to become profound. A simple act, entered wholeheartedly, becomes a doorway to the transcendent.

Why Practitioners Need Ritual More Than Ever

Human beings long for meaning, rhythm, and connection. Modern life rarely offers these generously. We are often encouraged to move quickly, produce constantly, and remain externally focused. In such a world, ritual becomes not a luxury, but a return.

Nicholas explains, “What ritual can do, particularly in a practice like Reiki, is it gives us a framework, a structure that we can learn from, that we can adapt to, that we can lean on until we start to internalize it.”

This is especially important in Reiki practice. In the beginning, many students are preoccupied with technique. They wonder whether they are doing it correctly, whether they are feeling enough, whether they are missing something important. This self-consciousness is natural, but it can also pull the practitioner away from the direct experience of Reiki.

Ritual offers a gentle bridge. By returning to the same sacred gestures again and again, the practitioner slowly learns to trust. Over time, what was once external begins to live within. The form no longer feels separate from the practitioner. It becomes embodied.

Eventually, one does not simply perform the ritual. One is carried by it.

Gasshō: The Sacred Simplicity of Two Hands Meeting

Few gestures express the spirit of Reiki ritual more beautifully than Gasshō. Two palms meet before the heart, and in that meeting something subtle but profound occurs. What appears simple on the outside becomes spacious on the inside.

Nicholas shares from his own experience, “I scarcely have to do more than just touch my hands together and I feel the flow of Reiki within seconds.”

This is the fruit of repeated, sincere practice. Over time, the body learns. The heart remembers. The nervous system associates the gesture with prayerful attention, inner stillness, and energetic receptivity. Gasshō becomes more than posture. It becomes invocation.

There is also a spiritual symbolism in it that many practitioners feel intuitively. Two hands meet, and something divided begins to return to unity. Mind and body. Inner and outer. Yin and Yang. Self and Source. Even without intellectual study, the practitioner can feel that something is being gathered into wholeness.

To sit in Gasshō for a few quiet breaths before practice is to say, without words: I am here now. I am listening. I surrender.

Repetition and the Awakening of Inner Pathways

Spiritual practice is often less about intensity than about fidelity. Reiki reveals itself not only in dramatic moments, but in repetition. The same gestures, the same acts of sitting, touching, breathing, reciting, and surrendering slowly begin to shape consciousness.

Nicholas describes it this way: “When we engage in the ritual often enough, it’s like we build a new kind of neural pathway.”

This is one reason self-practice matters so much. A practitioner may not always feel something extraordinary. Yet over time, something steady and luminous is being cultivated. The hands relax more quickly. The breath descends more naturally. The mind enters quiet with less resistance. The threshold between daily awareness and Reiki awareness becomes shorter.

What once required effort becomes familiar. What once felt distant becomes near.

This is how ritual matures. It becomes less about trying to get somewhere and more about allowing oneself to arrive.

The Body as a Doorway to the Sacred

Many spiritual seekers have inherited the idea that the body is somehow separate from higher consciousness, or even an obstacle to it. Reiki offers a gentler and more integrated vision. Nicholas states with disarming clarity, “Without a body, there is no Reiki practice.”

This does not reduce Reiki to the physical. Rather, it honors the body as vessel, instrument, and participant in healing. Through the body we experience warmth, stillness, contact, vibration, emotion, tenderness, and release. Through the body the invisible becomes tangible.

Reiki does not ask us to escape embodiment. It invites us to inhabit it more fully. To breathe consciously. To touch reverently. To listen to sensation without grasping. To understand that the body itself can become a temple of awakening.

This is part of the spiritual maturity of Reiki. The sacred is not elsewhere. It is here, within the very conditions of lived experience.

Touch as a Gateway to Non-Dual Awareness

Among Nicholas Pearson’s most profound reflections is his invitation to reconsider the nature of touch itself within Reiki practice. Many practitioners begin by thinking of healing as something one person does for another: the practitioner places their hands, channels energy, and the recipient receives. While this perspective may be useful in the early stages of learning, deeper practice often reveals something far more subtle and sacred.

When mindfulness becomes steady and the practitioner is fully present, a new question may arise:

Am I touching the body, or is the body touching me?

In that quiet inquiry, the ordinary sense of separation begins to soften. The familiar roles of giver and receiver no longer feel so fixed. Subject and object start to blur. Touch is no longer an act performed by one individual upon another, but a shared meeting within awareness itself.

This is advanced Reiki wisdom, because it shifts the practitioner away from effort and into communion.

Rather than “sending energy,” the practitioner relaxes into participation with something already present. Reiki is no longer imagined as moving from one person to another in a linear way. Instead, practitioner, recipient, and Reiki arise together in a shared field of presence.

There can be great humility in this realization. The practitioner is not the source. The recipient is not passive. Both are held within a larger intelligence of healing.

When touch is approached in this way, the hands become less about doing and more about listening. They rest rather than impose. They receive as much as they offer. They become instruments of awareness, sensing where harmony longs to return.

This understanding can transform the entire quality of a session. The practitioner becomes softer, less forceful, less concerned with results. The recipient often feels more deeply met, not merely treated. Healing becomes relational, spacious, and alive.

In spiritual terms, this is the movement from duality into unity. Not two separate people exchanging something, but life meeting itself through compassionate presence.

And perhaps this is one of the hidden mysteries of Reiki touch: in offering healing, we discover that we too are being touched.

Breath: The First Prayer

Before words, before symbols, before understanding, there is breath. Breath is the first rhythm of life and one of the simplest ways to enter sacred awareness.

Nicholas speaks about traditional practices that bring awareness into the lower abdomen, the Tanden, where breath and presence can become rooted more deeply in the body. When breath is conscious, the practitioner begins to descend from mental agitation into embodied stillness. What was scattered begins to gather. What was tense begins to soften.

A few slow breaths before a session can entirely change the quality of practice. Breath can become a form of inner bowing, a quiet acknowledgment that one is stepping into holy ground. It prepares the practitioner not by forcing energy, but by making space for it.

In this way, breath is not only a physiological tool. It is a spiritual one. It is the bridge by which we cross into presence.

The Reiki Precepts as a Way of Living

The Reiki precepts are often learned early, but they deepen over a lifetime. Many practitioners know the words by heart. Fewer allow those words to become the guiding presence of their daily living.

Nicholas offers a beautiful and expansive reading of them: “From morning to evening, let every action you undertake be a means of sharing the Gokai.”

This reorients the precepts completely. They are no longer just teachings to be recited during practice. They become a way of sanctifying the day itself. Not angering, not worrying, living in gratitude, working honestly, and meeting life with kindness cease to be spiritual ideals floating above reality. They become moment-to-moment invitations.

The precepts, lived this way, make the whole day into practice. Morning and evening may frame them, but their true home is in traffic, in family life, in work, in grief, in waiting, in speaking, in silence.

Then Reiki is no longer something done only during session time. It becomes a current running through the practitioner’s whole life.

Sound, Speech, and the Vibration of Presence

Reiki is often experienced through silence, yet Nicholas reminds us that voice and sound also carry spiritual power. Speaking, chanting, reciting, and praying involve mind, body, and breath at once. They gather inner and outer being into a single act.

As he says, “Chanting is such a profound way to do that.”

This helps explain why spoken precepts, mantras, or prayers can feel so anchoring. Sound gives form to intention; It vibrates through the body. It steadies the mind. It invites the practitioner into fuller participation.

There is something ancient and deeply human in this. The voice becomes more than communication.

When words are spoken sincerely, they do not merely say something. They do something, they align, they awaken, they bless.

Everyday Life as Ritual

One of the most tender and liberating teachings in Nicholas Pearson’s reflections is that ritual does not belong only to formal Reiki sessions. It can extend into all of life.

He says, “That sincere, mindful starting point turns anything we do into a ritual.”

This is a deeply spiritual teaching, because it dissolves the false boundary between sacred practice and ordinary life. Washing dishes can become an act of gratitude. Folding laundry can become a meditation in care. Commuting can become a lesson in presence. Speaking gently can become a form of healing. Rest can become a practice of trust.

The significance of this cannot be overstated. It means that Reiki is not confined to a treatment table or a meditation cushion. It can move through the simplest moments of daily life, transfiguring them from within.

This is where spiritual practice becomes real. Not only in the extraordinary, but in the quiet holiness of the ordinary.

Releasing Perfectionism and Trusting the Process

Many practitioners hold themselves back because they are afraid of doing something incorrectly. They worry about hand positions, sequence, sensation, silence, symbols, or whether they are “good enough” yet. But Reiki, in its deepest expression, asks for sincerity more than performance.

Nicholas offers compassionate guidance: “Don’t worry too hard about getting your rituals perfect. Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good.”

This is healing wisdom in itself. Spiritual life does not unfold through self-criticism. It unfolds through willingness. Through returning. Through letting the heart become simple.

A practitioner does not need to be flawless to be receptive. They need only to be present enough to listen and humble enough to allow.

Reiki as the Teacher

Perhaps one of the most reassuring truths Nicholas offers is this: “Reiki is the real teacher.”

Books matter. Teachers matter. Lineage matters. Yet beyond all outer forms, there is a direct relationship between practitioner and Reiki itself. That relationship deepens through experience, not only through explanation.

This means the path is not one of endless striving. It is one of relationship. Reiki teaches through repetition, silence, surrender, trust, and presence. It teaches through what opens, what softens, what is illuminated over time.

The practitioner is not alone in learning. Reiki is already guiding.

Become the Ritual

Nicholas closes with words that feel less like a conclusion and more like a blessing: “When we give ourselves permission to embody Reiki, we become the ritual.”

This may be the heart of the whole teaching.

At first, ritual appears to be something we do. We sit. We breathe. We place our hands. We recite. We begin. But over time, something shifts. The practice moves inward. The gestures no longer feel separate from the self. Presence becomes more natural. Compassion becomes more embodied. Gratitude becomes less performative and more real.

Then ritual is no longer external form.

It becomes the way we inhabit life.

Breath becomes prayer.
Touch becomes blessing.
Presence becomes transmission.
Daily living becomes practice.

The rituals of Reiki are not meant to trap the practitioner inside form. They are meant to awaken the sacred already waiting within them.

Final Reflection

The rituals of Reiki are not empty traditions or rigid forms to be performed perfectly. They are living expressions of presence, gentle pathways into healing, balance, and spiritual connection.

While formal ritual is not required, mindful structure can help practitioners enter Reiki consciousness more easily and more deeply. Simple gestures such as Gasshō, conscious breathing, placing the hands with reverence, or closing with gratitude become bridges from ordinary awareness into sacred presence.

Gasshō, with the palms together at the heart, reminds us to return to center. Breath quiets the mind. Touch becomes listening. The Reiki precepts turn daily life into practice through kindness, honesty, gratitude, and peace.

For beginners, ritual offers confidence and grounding. For experienced practitioners, it becomes natural and inwardly alive. What begins as form gradually becomes embodiment.

This is why consistency matters more than intensity. Even a few sincere minutes each day can open profound inner change.

Through breath, touch, sound, the precepts, and quiet devotion, Reiki teaches us to return to the deeper self—the self that knows how to trust, receive, and listen.

And in that stillness, healing begins.
