I wrote the book REINVENT YOUR LIFE and I’ve received so many wonderful testimonies of transformed lives. I’m humbled and grateful that someone could find a path to victory in their life through a story I tell or lesson I’ve learned.

But I’m just getting started….

Now it’s time for phase 2… REINVENT YOUR LIFE- ULTIMATE BODY MAKEOVER!

I’m declaring war on obesity and it begins with ME. I really don’t care about being skinny. What I do care about is spending my golden years in a hospital. I care about being too ill to take care of my self. I care about living my life taking prescription drugs. That’s what I care about!

You see, I’ve been a big boy all my life. When I was a boy, my mother bought my brother’s clothes in the slim or regular dept. Well, she bought mine in the Husky Dept.!  Yikes!

My mother was obese. She had suffered multiple strokes, cancer and diabetes before she died too young many years ago.

My father had multiple cancers and high cholesterol before he died just a few years ago. Other family members have and are suffering some preventable lifestyle diseases and amputations as well. It’s got to stop! Period!

You name the diet, I’ve tried it. Truth is, they all work… if you stay on them. Then usually something emotional happens and …. well the diet can wait until Monday. But you and I know that Monday will come and go… and the diet goes  away with it.

Listen… If diet and exercise were the only answer, then we wouldn’t have an obesity problem here in the USA.

Many people eat to live. Then there is the rest of us who live to eat.

My question for you today is not what are you eating… but what’s eating you? We must deal with food addictions and emotional eating. We’ve got to get spiritually and emotionally filled up in those heavy or depleted areas of our lives — especially if we are going to feel better, live better and look better.

I know… you’re probably saying…. “I’ve tried and failed a million times.”  Well join the club! So have I.

This time, by overcoming the root causes of obesity, you and I will have the victory. We’ll do it together. I’ve already lost 25 pounds. I still have a long way to go, but I have so many people pulling for me and standing with me. We’ll stand with you too.

Don’t let anything steal your joy today!

And if you’ve already lost your joy, here are a few ways to get your joy back:

A. Carve out a space and a place to read something inspirational (ever read REINVENT YOUR LIFE? LOL) I love reading the book of Proverbs. There are action steps there to grow in wisdom.

B. Talk with someone who loves God, loves people and doesn’t have a critical spirit. It will refresh you. Toxic people and circumstances drain you and can’t always be avoided. Your job is to find a church, a small group or ask God to lead you to someone who can be encouraging without being patronizing.

C. Encourage someone else. The secret to my longevity in ministry is that through my own trials, hurts and failures, I have never ceased to sing, preach, write and share God’s love whether on stage or one on one. As you minister and give to others, God always ministers and gives back to you in various ways.

D. Change your priorities. Seek God’s Kingdom above ALL else!

E through Z. And then most importantly, talk to God. Then wait…. and let Him speak to your spirit. If you don’t know anything else, grow in grace and clear the clutter so that you can know His voice.

Father God, thank you for guiding us as we seek you.

We need your guidance. We need your peace. We need your strength.

Would you open the eyes of our hearts? We want to see you in everything we do.

Your will be done. In earth. In me.

Thank you for fresh faith.

Thank you for fresh fire.

Thank you for hearing us.

In Jesus’ name… Amen

When I started in music ministry years ago, I didn’t do it because I wanted the world to hear my music.

I didn’t do it because I thought I had this amazing gift.

I was insecure (although I didn’t show it).

I was shy (but I worked through it).

I didn’t like my voice (but for some reason others were blessed).

I didn’t have any money, manager or record label.

I DID do it because I loved to make people feel encouraged and inspired and it was where I found God’s favor.

So in the middle of all the noise, distractions, disappointments and overwhelm, I did (and still do) seek to know and follow God’s plan for my life. Where His plan is… you will find favor.

What I DID have was an open door.

I didn’t have to force doors down. (You will have to ask sometimes and you will have to fight sometimes).

I didn’t have to beg someone to ask me to sing.

I simply followed the “star” and the doors that should have opened did and the ones that should have closed … closed.

i did have to overcome fear. I did have to take action. I did face disappointments. I did take responsibility for my own failure or success. I did have to grow and personally develop. But God never leaves us to figure it out by ourselves… never!

The question is…. are you open? Are you willing to learn from the past and grow?

The wise men followed a star. For you it may be a lamp unto your feet… a light to your path.

A connection. An unexpected opportunity. Are you ready for it or are you getting ready?

Yes, I love what I do.

Maya Angelou said, “You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don’t make money your goal. Instead, pursue the things you love doing and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off you.”

So for 2010, stop struggling to make your way. Refocus and reinvent… and follow the star.

Wise men (and wise women) still seek Him.
