135,000 UK kids are set to scoot over 1 million miles each week to school on what have become the hottest phenomena on three wheels – The Mini and Maxi Micro Scooters. And, by opting for three-wheel transport in favour of the car, they will be saving their parents £39million in petrol **.
Uniquely designed to literally surf the pavements, the 3 wheeled Mini and Maxi Micro Scooters have established themselves as the coolest thing on wheels on the ‘scoot to school’. And, with the newest introduction to the Maxi Micro Scooter range this phenomenal success story looks set to run and run....
SCOOT BACK TO SCHOOL IN STYLE ON THE ALL NEW ORANGE, JOY-STICK MAXI MICRO SCOOTER
Micro Scooters Ltd has recently launched a funky new citrus orange, joy-stick Maxi Micro Scooter, available exclusively in the UK via: www.micro-scooters.co.uk.

The new orange joy-stick Maxi Micro Scooter is the inspiration of Anna Gibson and Philippa Gogarty, founding partners of Micro Scooters Ltd. Having watched their growing children become more confident and able on their Maxi Micro T-Bar scooters they realized that, to safely keep pace with their kids emerging ‘tween’ aspirations, they needed to offer a more grown up scooting experience.
Designed specifically to appeal to kids aged 8-12years, the new orange joy-stick Maxi Micro Scooter is, therefore, the perfect transition scooter for kids who’ve mastered the classic T-bar scooter and are looking for something a bit more edgy that allows them to safely ‘surf’ in a similar style to teenager skateboarders.
This vibrant new addition to the Maxi Micro Scooter range is set to appeal to both boys and girls and, no doubt, will be cutting a colourful swathe on the scoot-to-school.
The popularity of the Micro Scooters amongst kids is matched by the enthusiasm of their parents who appreciate its enduring value as something that will be used and enjoyed every-day and that’s lightweight, portable and can be easily stored away. It is also great for promoting exercise and improves children’s balance, coordination and independence.

For more information on Joy-Stick Maxi Micro Scooter or the range of T-Bar Maxi and Mini Micro Scooters suitable for children with aged 3-5 years and 6-12 years respectively, visit the newly redesigned website at http://www.micro-scooters.co.uk.

We would be happy to consider media enquiries regarding promotional offers and competitions for the new Orange Joy-Stick Maxi Micro Scooter.
NOTES TO EDITORS:
Micro Scooters Ltd is the success story of two London mums: Anna Gibson and Philippa Gogarty, who managed to get hold of the Mini Micro Scooter for their children and could not believe how it changed their lives for the better. As a result they set up Micro Scooters Ltd in 2004 to make it more wildly available in the UK. They are the sole distributors of the Mini and Maxi Micro Scooter in the UK and the philosophy behind their success is a refreshingly simple and honest one: “As mothers of young and older children we know that keeping them happily occupied is half the battle. We have created a website that only sells toys we know work. Many of the toys for sale are recommendations from other mothers and their children. Our market research is second to none. Any new product we come across is tried and tested on our 6 children, with an age range of 2 – 12 you can be assured that every product is looked over with a critical eye but at the end of the day it has to pass the test for us as Mums.

“Either our life has to have been made easier by the introduction of the product to our children or the product has to have some intrinsic educational value - and so our search for more great products continues. “

London 2 September 2010 “Wake up! Wake up!” the Guide cried, “The Blizzard Wizard has turned the Gardener into ice. Ramion is in great danger!”

Frank Hinks’ children’s book, ‘The Blizzard Wizard’, is published on 1 October 2010.

‘The Blizzard Wizard’ is the 14th story in the Ramion series.
Aimed at 7/8 years (and all who are young at heart), Hinks’ unique style of fantasy adventure with a healthy spoonful of yuckyness is a joy for parents’ to read to younger children and older children to read for themselves.

One touch of the Blizzard Wizard and body, mind and spirit turn to ice. With the unwitting help of foolish Cloud 9 the Princess of the Night frees the Blizzard Wizard from prison. With the rabbit Scrooey-Looey the boys, Julius, Alexander and Benjamin set out to gather earth from the bottom of a pond where the Ducky Rocky lives surrounded by monsters of the forest, pure water guarded by a snake in the deepest cavern in Iliana, breeze from Mount Nereid and fire from the volcano of the Princess of the Night. These four elements when they combine will bind up the Blizzard Wizard and take him back to his prison cell. Can the warrior cat Snuggle save the land of Ramion again?!

Robin Edwards
TV Scriptwriter and author said:-
“Frank Hinks’ invention Ramion, a place where anything could happen and does - pulls together all the classic elements essential to keep children interested, in fine style. Great stuff, especially if you’re trying to wean a recalcitrant boy off the
Nintendo.”

Robin Stuart-Clark
Readers' Forum book Club said:-
“Frank Hinks transports you to a world where good battles evil and evil gives as good as it gets, all with a dose of good humour and no nonsense dialogue and wonderful, mind-stopping illustrations that make you look and look again”

Ask Frank Hinks how many more Ramion stories he will write and what inspires him to keep writing and he will tell you, “I will keep writing whilst the ideas which stem from years of bedtime storytelling for my three sons Julius, Alexander and Benjamin (who are now adults) continue to flow. I am currently working on The Body Collector. How many beyond that I have no idea.”

MILLIONS OF BRITISH PARENTS PUTTING CHILDREN AT RISK IN THE CAR

New research out today reveals a staggering four out five British parents are unaware of the in-car safety legislation for children, suggesting millions are at risk.
Of the 1,000 parents surveyed, only 20% knew that children must use a or a booster cushion until the age of 12 or when they reach 1.35 metres tall.

Alarmingly, it seems some are currently basing the decision to remove the in-car protection on the length of the journey, or even on their child’s comfort or attitude. Nearly a fifth of those surveyed say that they have felt pressure from their child to let them sit in the car without a high back booster or a booster cushion, while 15% say their child has pestered them in an attempt to only use the latter.

It’s also worrying that the average UK parent switches from a car seat to a booster cushion when their child is only six, meaning the child is no longer receiving any side impact protection. With new research by Loughborough University suggesting that one out of four car accidents are side collisions[1], which account for 20% of all child car crash fatalities[2], this highlights a massive need for parental education lead by car seat manufacturers

Britax is always striving to offer maximum protection for children as they develop. This week sees the discontinuation of their booster cushion as they urge parents to use high back boosters in their place. Child Safety Expert at Britax Mark Bennett explains “Our aim is to educate and encourage parents to use optimum safety measures for their little ones. Whilst booster cushions are better than no child car seat, they offer no side impact protection, and with one in four accidents happening side-on, this is essential”.

Which? – the independent, product testing consumer magazine - takes the same view as Britax on side impact protection, and recently issued a statement calling for backless booster seats to be phased out. Richard Headland, Which? Car Editor comments, "Which? welcomes Britax's decision to stop selling its booster cushions, and is calling on other manufacturers to do the same. While backless booster seats are better than nothing, they simply don't provide enough protection."

Mark Bennett continues, “The results of the research are extremely alarming. With only one in five parents aware of the in-car safety legislations there must be millions of children at risk, suggesting there is a huge amount of education required”.

Chris Patience, head of technical policy for the AA adds, “With some 16 million cars expected to be on the roads this August bank holiday, we urge all parents to think carefully about the in-car protection they provide for their children. The lack of any side impact protection means that booster cushions aren’t suitable for use as a child’s main restraint – for regular journeys in the family car.”

Designed to offer parents on-going tips about car seat safety, Britax recently launched a Facebook page called ‘Baby on Board: Keeping our Children Safe’, and today sees the launch of an interactive ‘quiz’ application that teaches parents about both the legalities and the necessity for side impact protection. Both are great sources of information for parents in need of some top line advice about the do’s and don’ts of in-car travel with their children.

Britax has also created a ‘crash test footage’ video which educates about the importance of using a car seat with side impact protection for older children by demonstrating the lack of protection offered by a booster cushion – it can be found at http://www.britax.co.uk/car-seats/highback-booster-campaign.

Footnotes:

Britax offers the UK market a choice of four award winning high-backed boosters including the ADVENTURE, KID, KID plus and KIDFIX. Whilst UK safety standards currently do not test for side impact, Britax does. All four of these seats have been designed to keep children as safe as possible, featuring specially designed head and neck protectors and energy absorbing material to offer optimal head protection and body containment for older children.

To coincide with the discontinuation of the booster cushion, Britax is launching an integrated PR and marketing campaign, designed to educate parents about the importance of side impact protection for older children. The campaign includes consumer advertising, an educational video, a series of radio interviews with Britax’s in-house car safety expert and a national news story which looks into parent’s limited awareness of car seat legislations. There will also be a social media element to the campaign consisting of an informative Facebook group called Baby On Board: Keeping our children safe, and an interactive and educational online quiz.

In-line with this focus on education and the discontinuation of their booster cushion, Britax will also be offering price promotions of up to 50% off their highback booster range through their selected retailers to help parents that may already have a booster cushion upgrade to a highback booster at a more affordable price’.

iPhone games developer Neon Play has hit over a million iPhone downloads for its first two games with Golf Putt Pro achieving a staggering 250,000 downloads in just one day, pushing it to number 2 in the UK and US iPhone free download charts.

It’s the second time Cirencester-based Neon Play has had a top ten hit despite massive US competition. Its first game Flick Football and Flick Football Lite, launched in the summer has over 700,000 downloads and reached no.8 in the charts.

The US currently dominates the iPhone app market with 8 of the top 10 games being from US studios but CEO Oli Christie thinks that there is an opportunity to establish the UK as a centre for app development, with Government support of course.

“The US is dominating the app economy but UK studios such as ours have a great opportunity to break-up this early monopoly through simple, creative, addictive games,” said Christie. "It's already a $250m a month market and the US is getting most of that. Why is the UK so slow to react and why is the government so resistant to this industry? This could be massive for the UK, generating millions in tax but the industry needs a helping hand to compete on a level playing field.”

Neon Play is launching two more games in September - Hotshot Pool and Paper Glider – and has a number of apps it is developing for well known brands and celebs in the coming months.

After today’s news that the frequency of sexually transmitted disease is increasing in the UK, particularly in adolescents and young adults, we asked Dr Malcolm VandenBurg, a Harley Street Private Specialist in Medicine including Sexual Health and General Medicine for his comments.

He is particularly well placed to give this, as he has not only brought up four children himself, but ran the parent support services, running regular groups for parents, at the Capio Chelsea Adolescent Mental Health Hospital.

Dr Malcolm VandenBurg commented that ‘we clearly have to try to get these young people to use adequate contraception, even if we are not able to prevent them engaging in sexual contacts at a younger and younger age. The frequency of sexual contact and the frequency of sex without condoms is clearly related to both alcohol usage and the usage of other drugs and we have to tackle all the cultural and social reasons why all these are on the increase’.

He believes that ‘not only do people have to be persuaded not to engage in unprotected sexual activity, but that they have to be informed that even if they used a condom for protective vaginal sex, they can still put themselves at risk due to diseases outside the condom area such as herpes, warts, syphilis, the parasite commonly known as ‘crabs’ and lice all over the body’.

He pointed out that ‘there is increasing transmission via unprotected oral sex when this is practiced, as well as an increased risk if and when a condom is put on with the mouth which is common among sex workers. He was clear to point out not only the risk of infection, but also the psychological distress often caused by pregnancy and promiscuous activity.

There are clearly also additional dangers from the use of drugs such as poppers and other illegal drugs which are used by people to enhance their sexual enjoyment.

A recent colic survey carried out by Consumer Analysis Ltd., revealed that the third most common treatment for baby’s colicky symptoms, after giving medicine and using massage, was to change the feeding bottle used to another brand.

Of the 28% of mums who changed their baby’s bottle to an alternative brand, 43% chose Dr Brown’s Natural Flow feeding system as their number one choice. Amazingly, three quarters, (75%) who used this brand went on to report an improvement in their baby’s colic symptoms, a result completely outperforming all the other brands used. 35% also stated that it worked instantly – after just one feed with over half, (53%) seeing an improvement within a day in their baby’s colicky symptoms.

The survey also revealed that almost half of all babies in the UK will suffer with colic in their early weeks and months, yet the condition still remains poorly understood. There is no known cure for colic but there are a wide range of medicinal remedies available which the survey revealed were not always welcomed by mums. In fact, 46% of them reported they were concerned about giving medicine to such young babies.

The constant crying associated with ‘colicky’ babies proved distressing for parents, with the study revealing that many parents failed to understand why their well-fed and healthy baby wouldn’t stop crying. It showed that even if they did recognise that their baby had colic many didn’t know what to do about it or who to turn to.

Many mums reported getting very different messages from their health professionals on how to treat their baby’s colic. Seemingly unable to agree on the best course of action to take, some GP’s avoided prescribing medicines altogether, whilst others believed it to be the best solution. Many recommended gripe water and rubbing the baby’s tummy or back. Subsequently, frustrated and sleep-deprived mums reported being left to their own devices, trying out multiple different ‘cures’. Some of the more obscure remedies noted included, boiling cumin seeds and giving the baby the water, while some breast-feeding mums had tried drinking fennel tea to solve the problem.

Mums who opted to change their bottles to Dr Brown’s Natural Flow feeding system also reported that their baby appeared not to be sucking in as much air as with other brands. Many said that they had tried all sorts of colic remedies to no avail before switching to this brand. Improvements were seen with some of the other brands of bottles used, but often mums couldn’t be certain if it was the bottle that had made the difference or not, as they were using other ‘methods’ at the same time, such as anti colic teats, drops or medicine. However, they did report that Dr Brown’s Natural Flow had resulted in the quickest improvements, noticing a marked difference after an average of 5.4 feeds.

Key findings revealed:

o	Dr Brown’s Natural Flow was the first choice (43%) for mums changing their baby’s bottle to relieve the symptoms of colic.
o	Three quarters of babies with colic (75%) whose mums changed to Dr Brown’s Natural Flow saw improvement in their colicky symptoms after their bottles were changed.
o	Only two out of five mums with young babies (42%) could correctly name one or more of the symptoms of colic.
o	According to mums in the survey, the most well known sign of colic is the baby’s legs curling up to their stomach (26%), followed by long periods of crying (23%).
o	Colic led 62% of mums to be frustrated that they couldn’t solve the problem, 29% felt that the crying caused a lot of stress in the household an a fifth (20%) felt guilty because they thought that they were doing something wrong.
o	Concerned mums were more likely to turn to their health visitor than their mum for advice about their colicky baby (47% vs. 29%).

However inconvenient or uncomfortable you find your 'curse', your 'period' or whatever you call your monthly menstruation, you should celebrate it as a sign of your health and your fertility - your monthly blessing.

So a new website www.monthlyblessings.co.uk has been set-up to provide more information about some of the health issues surrounding hygiene products and to help all women make an informed choice about the type of sanitary products that they use and to help them purchase the healthier products that suit their lifestyle.

Unfortunately, over the recent past the totally natural process of menstruation has been seen by some as a medical problem to be exploited and something to be managed out of sight. Many products have been developed - usually by men - to help you manage your period.
Not all of them are good for your health!

Every month, for around 40 years of their lives, millions of women expose themselves to a wide range of hazardous chemicals through their choice of sanitary protection product. There is a wealth of evidence to show that tampons and sanitary towels can be the cause of minor irritation in many women and lead to serious health problems for an unfortunate few.

Organisations such as the Vulval Pain Society have been established to provide help and advice to the millions of sufferers. The consistent advice of the experts is to avoid man-fibres and chlorine bleached products and to use organic cotton next to the skin wherever possible.

All the products on www.monthlyblessings.co.uk have been designed by women for women.

Natracare offer a range of Organic Cotton tampons and non-chlorine bleached pads and liners. Lunapads washable pads get back to basics with a fabulous range in stunning prints and organic cotton. Sea Pearls are washable sponge tampons and, like the Mooncup, are perfect for travellers and those looking for a low-waste ‘tampon’ solution.

Discarded pads, like disposable nappies, are also a major environmental and health hazard as any ecologist or sewage worker will testify. The products listed on www.monthlyblessings.co.uk all have a very low environmental impact.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NOTGOINGTOUNI.CO.UK SEE NUMBERS SOAR AS THOUSANDS MISS OUT ON UNIVERSITY

23rd August 2010- London- notgoingtouni.co.uk experienced the most remarkable week of their history to date by attracting a record 10,000 visitors to the website on A-Level Results Day. This huge upsurge in traffic represents 100% increase on figures for Results Day last year and reflects changing attitudes to options away from university amongst young people.

With an estimated 180,000 students not getting into university this September, students were faced with the uncertainty of their future and used notgointouni.co.uk to help them understand the raft of opportunities that exist outside of traditional university.

Managing Director Spencer Mehlman was overwhelmed with the dramatic surge in visitors and enquiries and believes “there has definitely been a change in student’s perceptions towards university, its associated debt and its value to their career. Today’s students are keen to explore vocational qualifications and are starting to view them as a viable route to success”.

Apprenticeship specialists Notgoingtouni.co.uk are dedicated to helping young people make informed decisions about their future by showing the opportunities that exist outside of university. University is great for many people & UCAS has long existed to show students the courses available. Notgoingtouni.co.uk shows the other side and is often described as the ‘non-graduate UCAS’.

London, 23rd August 2010: Teddy Tennis, the British developed tennis programme for 3½ - 5½ year olds is being launched this week in North America, ahead of the US Open.

Teddy Tennis has teamed up with Patricia Jensen, renowned American tennis marketer, to launch the programme, initially to a specially invited list of tennis professionals at the Courtside Racquet Club in Lebanon, New Jersey.

Teddy Tennis is a new teaching method that inspires young children aged 3½ - 5½ to play tennis and develop a love of sport. It creatively connects to children through music, pictures, stories and teddy bear characters and it makes learning the elementary skills of tennis and sport in general FUN.

Richard Bean, Co-founder of Teddy Tennis said “We are very excited about the Teddy Tennis launch in the US. I have taught a number of American children at the Teddy Tennis Academy in West London and they absolutely love it; their parent’s only complaint is that there is nothing like it in the USA.”
Richard continued, “Unlike the UK, tennis is experiencing a massive growth in the US and we are very confident that our program will be very well received there.”

Teddy Tennis has been developed in Holland Park, West London and this year alone, over 800 children have participated in the programme. Teddy Tennis teaching is made up of a series of lessons all of which use music and pictures to inspire the children to take part, to learn and to have fun.

As well as getting children active and teaching them to play tennis, Teddy Tennis enhances co-ordination, grows confidence, develops communication skills and introduces young children to the concept of learning.

Roger Draper Chief Executive of British Tennis: “We think it is a great idea for the 3 and 5 year olds to build a foundation of good all round athletic fundamentals with music and pictures to help the youngsters understand the learning experience of tennis, we wish them well in their venture.”

Notes for editors:

1. Teddy Tennis applies children’s innate musical appreciation to inspire participation and development. Songs, specially written for the programme, provides the rhythm that helps children move around the court more easily. It helps them develop their hand to eye co-ordination and it enables them to swing the racket at the ball so that they can hit it with perfect timing. Not only do children love the approach but it speeds up the learning process, helps develop their communication skills and improves their confidence.

2. In the USA, tennis participation has grown 43% since 2000, according to the Sporting Goods Manufacturing Association and the number of children age 6-17 playing tennis jumped to 9.5 million from 6.8 million between 2006 and 2009.

3.	In 2009 Teddy Tennis was adopted by Europe’s leading tennis school, the Sánchez-Casal Academy in Barcelona, as their standard teaching system for young children.

4. Peter MacCraw coach educator, leading tennis researcher and world-renowned developmental coach said “Teddy Tennis is a unique and innovative program that introduces children to the fundamentals of tennis. The unique approach of combining music with motion creates an ideal learning environment for children of all ages and abilities to develop sound athletic and tennis skills. A child could not receive a better start to tennis. Teddy Tennis is the best I have seen.”

5. Teddy Tennis featured on BBC’s Dragons Den in 2007 but did not get their investment.

6. The Teddy Tennis band is called ‘Head Ted and the Cub Cadets’ and all their music is available to download from iTunes.

Many young people are preparing for university following A Levels, but for those unsure of what to do, deferring to undertake a productive gap year could be the best preparation, according to Paul Rompani, CEO of Lattitude Global Volunteering.

A well structured, productive gap year provides the opportunity to gain valuable work experience and life experience, gain a sense of independence and develop confidence. Volunteering overseas offers all these benefits, as well as the opportunity to make a positive difference to communities by doing something meaningful.

“Overseas volunteering is becoming more popular as young people realise the positive effect it can have on their CVs for university and job applications” Paul Rompani explains. “It also helps the volunteers to get some real life perspective after working hard towards their exams.”

Educational development charity, Lattitude Global Volunteering, has been providing young people with the opportunity to volunteer overseas for nearly 40 years and offers teaching, community, medical, environmental and care placements in 20 countries worldwide.

Gap year students could choose to spend a few months working to gain work experience and earn money towards their gap year placement, or towards university, before spending the remainder of their gap year volunteering. Volunteer activities can be as diverse as caring for street children in Ecuador, assisting in a Red Cross hospital in Japan, helping on a conservation project in Australia, teaching English in India or teaching all subjects in Tanzania.

Cassim Akhoon, unable to secure a place at medical school, chose to volunteer in a Red Cross Hospital in Japan with Lattitude Global Volunteering. "During my first medical school interview I was extremely nervous. My knowledge was inadequate and I was not equipped to present myself as a potential medical student" explains Cassim. "But on my placement, as I learnt more Japanese, the Director of the hospital allowed me to work in the emergency room, where I gained valuable medical experience. I returned to the UK after my Lattitude Global Volunteering placement as a new person; a potential doctor. As a result, I passed the extremely competitive interview and am studying medicine at King's College".

Cassim, from London, would never have had the opportunity to volunteer overseas without the support of a bursary from Lattitude Global Volunteering. The not for profit charity organisation offers funding and bursaries to those who would struggle to pay the fees required to volunteer overseas. Cassim is currently one of the top 3 students in his year.

For those deferring university because they are not sure what they want to do, an overseas volunteering experience can help make the decision explains Paul. “Our volunteers return home having thoroughly enjoyed the experience and having discovered an interest or focus that they had not considered previously, which might lead them into a whole new career path in teaching, medical care or conservation for example” he says.

Linda Bloomfield volunteered in South Africa in 2009, “When I applied to Lattitude Global Volunteering I had no idea what to study at university and hoped volunteering would help make up my mind,” she says. “Teaching in South Africa and living in the remote village of Ingwavuma opened my eyes to the Zulu culture and gave me a real passion for Africa and the community. I sponsor a little girl at the school I taught at where 80% of the kids were HIV positive and I get letters and drawings every week from my classes and two of my students were accepted to university to study Theatre”.
Currently studying Theatre at university, Linda plans to return to Africa, after she graduates, to open a Theatre programme for disadvantaged children.

The high standard of exam results, combined with the recession's effect on the job market and stiffer competition for University places, has led many students to believe that a gap year is a great opportunity to improve their employability or university choices. A volunteering gap year will give applicants a competitive edge for jobs or university courses but it is more than just a CV boost, as Paul goes on to explain.

“A gap year spent volunteering overseas ticks a lot of boxes on a CV or university application” Paul adds. “But whether it teaches the volunteer to appreciate the value of education, develop a sense of independence, or build self confidence, it is what the volunteer takes away from the experience personally that makes it good preparation for university and later life”.

Water cooler specialist Angel Springs has come up with a refreshing solution to the challenge of keeping the promotional messages displayed on its trucks bang up to date – with a little help from bodybuilder Bevan Group.

The operator has just taken delivery of the first seven units from an order for 15 new Isuzu 7.5-tonners with automatic transmissions. All arrived via Angel Springs’ long-term contract hire partner Fraikin, and are fitted with Bevan’s fast access curtainslider bodies.

These are ideally suited to multi-drop applications because the curtains are tensioned from front to back and have locks at both ends, so drivers have no time-consuming straps and buckles to contend with – to gain access they simply slide back the curtains, concertina-fashion, in seconds.

In a ‘first’ for Bevan, the trucks also boast two-metre square panels that are rear-mounted and interchangeable, and used to publicise the latest marketing initiatives by Angel Springs.

Bevan is producing two of these aluminum-framed panels for each vehicle – one is always on the truck, the other is held at its production facility in Halesowen, West Midlands, by the bodybuilder.

Every three months Angel Springs’ marketeers relay their latest artwork to Bevan Group’s graphics specialists, who transfer it to the panels. Technicians from Bevan’s aftercare team then take the new panels out to the Angel Springs locations at which the vehicles are based, fit them and return to base with those they’ve removed.

“My marketing colleagues originally wanted to change the vehicle liveries on a regular basis,” explains Angel Spings’ National Operations Director Kevin Matthews. “But I explained to them that apart from the cost, I couldn’t afford to take my vehicles off the road for weeks at a time so the work could be done.

“This is a fantastic solution though, because the panels look great and it takes no time at all to swop them over. It’s also very cost-effective – in fact, Bevan’s production and associated costs for this exercise are a good bit lower than I thought they would be.”

Angel Springs’ first seven trucks are all based at its depot in Tring, Hertfordshire; the remaining eight will operate from its headquarters in Wolverhampton, and from Halifax.

Mr Matthews has worked within the logistics industry for the last 30 years in the bottled water cooler sector since 2000. He sits on the Midlands Council of the Freight Transport Association as well as being a member of the Institute of Logistics.

“So I have some history with sales specialist Martyn Reeves and his colleagues at Bevan Group, and I know their vehicle bodies are extremely well built and durable,” he confirms.

Some of Angel Springs’ new trucks replace older vehicles that are being stood down but others represent a further extension to the company’s fleet of 60 trucks and vans, the vast majority of which are 7.5-tonners.

“We’re very busy right now and our depots are delivering record volumes of water, so we need additional vehicles to meet the demand,” continues Mr Matthews.

Each new truck offers a payload of some 3.7 tonnes, sufficient to carry 160 20-litres bottles stored on Angel Springs’ bespoke racking – for which Bevan Group has also devised a secure locking system – as well as eight boxes of cups and a trolley.

“Our drivers make up to 45 ‘drops’ per day and they love these new trucks,” adds Mr Matthews. “We’ve been successfully trialling a couple of vehicles with auto ’boxes in London for a couple of years and this is the first order we’ve placed subsequently for units with two-pedal set-ups.”

Angel Springs was founded in 2003, from an amalgamation of three water companies, and is now the fastest growing water cooler company in the UK.

Angel Springs has worked since its inception with Fraikin –the latest 7.5-tonne Isuzus are the subject of six-year contract hire deals under which each will average 35,000 miles a year.

Water cooler company Angel Springs has ordered new delivery vehicles built with Bevan Group’s truck bodies for delivery and marketing efficiency.

UK’s leading water cooler company Angel Springs has taken delivery of the first seven units from an order for 15 new Isuzu 7.5-tonne vehicles with automatic transmissions, fitted with Bevan Group’s curtain slider bodies, designed for ease of use and fast access. The vehicles arrived via Angel Springs’ long-term contract hire partner, fleet management group Fraikin.

Curtain slider bodies are tensioned from front to back and have locks at both ends. The trucks have rear-mounted and interchangeable two-metre square panels, which are being used to publicise the latest marketing initiatives supplied to the Bevan Group by Angel Springs.

Technicians from Bevan’s aftercare team take the new panels out to the Angel Springs locations where vehicles are based, fit them and return to base with the removed panels.
Angel Spings national operations director, Kevin Matthews, said: “My marketing colleagues originally wanted to change the vehicle liveries on a regular basis, but I explained to them that apart from the cost, I couldn’t afford to take my vehicles off the road for weeks at a time so the work could be done.

“This is a fantastic solution, though, because the panels look great and it takes no time at all to swap them over. It’s also cost-effective. In fact, Bevan’s production and associated costs for this exercise are a good bit lower than I thought they would be.” Angel Springs are the longest established water cooler company in the UK and this is great news for them.
