Hazlemere Windows is predicting a surge in demand for double glazing. New environmental building regulations coming into effect from 1st October 2010 mean the cost of investing in double glazing is set to rise by around 15% from October. Homeowners only have four weeks to place an order before prices rise.

Part L of the of the Building Regulations, which comes into effect after 30th September, requires all new double glazing to meet higher heat installation standards. Although these new environmentally friendly windows will improve the heat efficiency of your home they will also cost more to manufacture, which of course means they will be more expensive for the consumer.

“Many of our customers are keen to do their bit for the environment but with the economy in its current state it’s difficult to justify extra spending. So the prospect of tax paying homeowners shelling out more money to satisfy the new building regulations to help the Government meet its carbon emission reduction targets is not exactly popular.” Mark Austin, Hazlemere Window Company Ltd.

This fantastic and rare opportunity to order less expensive double glazing will run out at the end of September. So right now is the best time to act for home owners looking to add value to their property.

Wakefield and District Housing (WDH) has chosen mobile technology from 1st Touch (www.1sttouch.com) for its property and land survey employees; with a view to extending the technology to other field-based disciplines across the enterprise.

WDH, who became the largest single housing stock transfer organisation in 2005, has responsibility for over 31,000 homes lived in by over 100,000 people and are the fifth largest housing organisation in England. With a wide range of housing types from sheltered housing to high rise communities and a £720 million improvement scheme running until 2012, the survey function is a key element of the WDH success story.

The systems used by survey teams, in the field, are therefore central to the delivery of the high standards WDH demands. As an existing PDA solution used by the department was unable to integrate with WDH’s Housing Management system, it was decided to identify a new mobile solution which had proven integration links to the back-office and which was flexible enough to allow electronic forms to be created internally. This would not only improve the systems used in surveying operation but would also enable WDH to take the first step towards identifying a scalable, enterprise-wide solution that ultimately could be rolled out across multiple disciplines including: responsive repairs, maintenance and inspections. After an extensive review of the market and a rigorous evaluation process WDH chose 1st Touch.

1st Touch applications can bring significant efficiencies and productivity increases to any application where field based operatives provide services. 1st Touch has already won widespread acclaim in the social housing market where the software manages, supports and control all aspects of mobile operatives’ activities. The resilient but flexible system enables easy, programming-free, user-customisable PDA based solutions to be created through its easy to use graphical interface and is specifically designed to simplify handheld form design and data capture. Any type of electronic form can be generated without the need for Business Process Mapping. 1st Touch has also developed high quality integration with most of the leading housing management systems used by local authority housing organisations and ALMOs.

Louise Muirhead, Senior Business Analyst at WDH felt that these features were a major factor in the decision to choose 1st Touch, noting, “We needed to identify a new mobile solution for the surveying function first of all, as the existing PDA system we had used for this function was not able to integrate with our back-office system. In addition, we still had some forms and spreadsheets that were paper based and we needed all this information to be integrated, accessible and viewable in one single location. We chose 1st Touch to meet these requirements.

“Having seen the system in use at a reference site visit we were impressed by the easy to use mobile application builder with a graphical interface that allows the design, creation and modification of forms; without having to return to the supplier and pay more. There was also a proven integration with our existing Housing Management system.

"However, the most influential factor was when we ran 1st Touch on our real-time test environment. 1st Touch performed well and proved the integration throughout exhaustive testing. We were also impressed by the 1st Touch approach as their staff appeared highly motivated to work closely in partnership with us at our offices. With such a clear proof of concept in hand, coupled with a very effective working relationship, we decided to start implementing the system with our survey department. Ultimately though, we can see how 1st Touch can be easily rolled out across WDH to areas such as responsive repairs, maintenance and inspections. In all, we envisage that over 200 operatives might ultimately use it. This would help us achieve significant productivity gains and to improve efficiency right across the organisation.”

Colin Hare, Business Systems Manager at WDH, emphasised the WDH commitment to continuous improvement and customer service, adding, “Our record level of tenant satisfaction illustrates WDH’s commitment to providing high-quality services to tenants, to ensure everything we do is done professionally and that we go that extra mile to meet the needs of tenants.

In addition, WDH aims to exceed the standards of the ‘Decent Homes Initiative’ and, with other government directives to fulfil such as ‘Warmer Greener Homes”, we are always considering ways of improving all aspects of our operations. A key element of this is the use of technology and we are aware of the considerable benefits and efficiency savings that mobile technology can bring to both our surveying function and to WDH as a whole. We look forward to working closely with 1st Touch as we examine these benefits across disciplines.”

Robert Dent, CEO of 1st Touch welcomed these comments adding, “As one of the largest housing organisations in England, getting things right for tenants is all important. WDH has an excellent and proven track record in achieving this. However, in the current economic climate, maintaining high standards is going to be a challenge. By evaluating the considerable productivity benefits and efficiency savings that mobile technology can bring across the enterprise, WDH is demonstrating their commitment to investing in the future. It is the tenants of course who are rightly the ultimate beneficiary. “

A survey by document management software company, Version One (www.versionone.co.uk), highlights that over a quarter of UK senior finance professionals are unaware of the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme (formerly known as the Carbon Reduction Commitment). Version One carried out the research with 139 senior finance professionals (finance directors and managers) across a range of UK public sector and private sector organisations.

The survey reveals that 27% of senior finance professionals admit that they haven’t heard of the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme. 17% of respondents state that they are aware of the Scheme and have investigated whether their organisation qualifies or not, with almost half (48%) stating that they are aware of the CRC Scheme but are unsure whether their organisation qualifies. Oddly, the remaining 8% admit that they “don’t know” whether they have heard about the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme or not!

The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme is a UK regulatory requirement which came into effect in April 2010 and encompasses the monitoring, measurement and reporting of carbon emissions as well as the buying and selling of carbon emission allowances. Qualification for the CRC is based solely on electricity consumption, but once in the scheme, companies need to measure and report on emissions from electricity, gas and static fuel consumption.

Qualifying companies have until 30 September 2010 to register with The Environment Agency, however due to the Agency needing to run pre-registration checks on businesses’ senior directors, qualifying organisations need to approach The Environment Agency at the beginning of September if they are to register in time. Any qualifying organisation that misses the deadline faces an initial £5,000 fine and a daily charge of £500 until registered (up to a maximum of £45,000).

Julian Buck, Managing Director of Version One, comments, “With the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme having considerable financial implications, it’s worrying that nearly a quarter of financial professionals surveyed haven’t even heard of the CRC. Qualifying organisations that fail to register for the scheme over the next few weeks risk significant fines as well as reputational damage if they are exposed as being non-compliant.”

Organisations interested in further information about the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme, including which technologies qualifying organisations should consider implementing to aid compliance, should download Version One’s white paper, The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme: A Practical Guide (http://www.versionone.co.uk/files/downloadform.php?ID=56&PID...)
About The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme www.environment-agency.gov.uk

The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme is a regulatory requirement which came into effect in April 2010. Designed to improve energy efficiency in large public and private sector organisations, this scheme aims to help meet the UK’s target of cutting greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80 per cent by 2050.

The scheme is designed to raise awareness about energy consumption and environmental implications in large organisations - especially at senior level - and to encourage changes in behaviour and infrastructure.

There are two aspects to the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme:

•	Measuring and monitoring the CO2 emissions of the UK’s larger energy users; and
•	Reducing emissions using a financial incentive – by imposing a cost on CO2 emissions.

Domestic wind turbine manufacturer Gaia-Wind supports the Scottish Government's backing of floating wind farms that will help bring the commercial viability and benefits of wind turbines to an even bigger audience.

Following discussions between First Minister Alex Salmond and Norwegian energy giant Statoil, Scotland could soon become home to the world's first floating wind farm.

In a bid to encourage Statoil to use Scottish waters to test and develop the commercial viability of their deep water Hywind floating turbines, the First Minister has suggested locations off the coast of Aberdeenshire or the Isle of Lewis.

Scottish waters as a whole are thought to offer a quarter of Europe's entire offshore renewable potential.

Should the project go ahead, it is estimated that offshore wind power could create around 20,000 jobs, £30 billion in investment as well as a much needed move towards energy security; a point domestic wind turbine manufacturer Gaia-Wind feels is long overdue, as a spokesperson explains:

“With the finite nature of fossil fuels becoming an increasingly pressing matter, we need to act now to create a world that can function just as easily from renewable energy as it does oil.

“The forward thinking nature of the Scottish Government shows the wheels are in motion to do so.

“One of the biggest incentives of large scale renewable energy – such as plans for a floating wind farm – is the idea that Scotland could secure and harness its own energy resources meaning the need to rely on power from other countries could become redundant. The idea of Scotland producing power independently is a very attractive prospect indeed.”

With the Scottish Government backing wind energy all the way, it's hoped that the increasing prominence of large scale wind farms will also enlighten home owners and small businesses to the benefits of wind turbines on a domestic level

With recycling and eco-awareness at an all time high, Gaia-Wind predicts small scale harnessing of the elements will be next on the agenda for environmentally savvy consumers:

“Despite Scotland's massive offshore wind potential, the wind energy that everyday people can harness from their back gardens, roof tops or small holdings should not be underestimated.

“With the Government's generous feed-in tariffs offering extra financial incentive, home owners needn't wait for offshore wind to power their homes when renewable power can be harvested on their doorstep; capable of powering entire homes with any excess being sold back to the grid.”

“Ultimately, wind turbines are becoming a much more viable energy option to a greater number of people.”

About Gaia-Wind:

Gaia-Wind are the world’s leading high performance small wind turbine and home wind turbine manufacturer ideally suited to service farms, large residences, small businesses, and public buildings.
With millions of drivers set to take to the roads this Bank Holiday weekend and fuel prices predicted to rise again, The Fuelcard Company is urging drivers to take steps to save on fuel costs.

Further rises in world oil, as announced last week, will push up the price of fuel by around four pence per litre on the busiest weekend of the year putting even more strain on cash-strapped drivers.

According to a poll by insurance provider esure, around 30 million people are expected to take a car journey of more than one hour, and one in five to embark on a journey taking over four hours this weekend. Major events such as the Leeds and Reading music festivals, and Creamfields, are also expected to exacerbate Bank Holiday traffic in those areas.

With major repair work also scheduled on rail services in and out of London which is expected to hit one in 14 journeys, UK travellers will be reliant on the road system for movement around the country.

There are some simple steps which drivers can take to significantly reduce their fuel consumption and take some of the stress out of the Bank Holiday traffic jams.

“Simply take your time and slow down a little,” said Colin Peters, Head of Marketing at The Fuelcard Company. “Encountering high volumes of traffic and congestion can put the driver under pressure, resulting in defensive driving techniques which can not only be dangerous but actually increase fuel consumption by as much as 40 percent. Constantly breaking too hard, speeding up to overtake at every opportunity and driving in a fast pace means you’re using up more fuel than is necessary.”

Nearly 50 percent of the energy needed to power a car goes into acceleration so maintaining a steady speed will increase fuel efficiency.

“When you’re constantly stopping and starting in traffic jams a lot of fuel goes into braking and acceleration. Adopting a slower pace when driving in heavy traffic and changing gears smoothly will not only conserve fuel but keep you feeling calm as well.”
With the unexpected increase in the cost of crude oil The Fuelcard Company are reiterating their call to Government to lower tax for commercial transportation companies still struggling to recover from the recession.

Here are The Fuelcard Company’s top five tips for Bank Holiday drivers to make that precious petrol (or diesel) go further:

1. Check Tyre Pressure
By inflating tyres to the maximum recommended air pressure, that less energy is required to move the vehicle. Under-inflated tyres can increase rolling resistance by approximately 1.4 percent for every 1 psi (0.1 bar) drop in pressure of all four tires.

2. Switch Off
In the UK it’s actually illegal to idle when waiting for someone at the side of the road and engines should always be switched off if planning to be stationary for a lengthy period of time. Some new car models are being developed with an automatic engine cut off, and manufacturers have identified a reduction in fuel consumption by up to 10 percent.

3. Reduce the Revs
Driving in heavy traffic requires a lot of stopping and starting using low gears which requires the most power and thus uses the most fuel. Where possible, drive in a higher gear – but don’t speed to achieve this. Try not to ‘rev’ the engine before changing gears as this will mean more fuel is used. Simply move through the gears smoothly until in a comfortable gear for the road.

5. Regular Services
Dirty oil, clogged sparkplugs and faulty thermostats can increase fuel consumption, so ensure your car is serviced regularly. Regular services make sure your spark plugs (if applicable), air filter and fuel filter are clean. These can save you a lot on fuel.

Environmental concerns have prompted generator hire company Mather and Stuart Generators Ltd, one of the largest power hire companies in the UK, to make all hires carbon neutral. This follows a deal with Crown Oil UK for the supply of totally carbon offset diesel.

Mather and Stuart provide power hire services to any branch of construction, industry or commerce where mains supplies are not available as well as areas like education, leisure and retail. “New mains are often not installed in time or there are cases of cables being severed or stolen, and that is when we step in, explained director Mark Stuart. “With a hire fleet of over 800 generator sets, we believe that this is a big win for the environment and one that distinguishes us from other hire companies.”

Crown Oil UK carbon offset diesel is a standard commercial product for which they have bought high quality carbon offsets. The offsets support energy conservation projects throughout the world. These may involve the planting of trees to create carbon sinks or other programmes to actively reduce carbon emissions. This means that the carbon released by the burning of the diesel is effectively cancelled out. “Offset diesel is available for use in any on-site plant. This may include pumps, site vehicles, excavators, cranes, piling rings and any other site based plant which qualifies for red diesel,” explained Mark Andrews, group general manager at Crown Oil UK.

Bio-diesel was considered as an alternative to the use of carbon offset diesel but was rejected for technical and ethical reasons. “Generators are often a distress hire and the last thing the customer needs is further technical glitches. Obtaining fuel from what is essentially a food resource also has ethical implications that make us uncomfortable, we are confident that the product and service that we receive from Crown Oil UK will ensure that we can maintain high performance standards that our customers expect,” Mark Stuart explained.

ONEPOST, the UK’s leading provider of independent postal advice and management, are hosting an event with the DMA on 30th September, 2010 in central London to launch the second sustainability tracking study.

The second part of the research, which has only recently been carried out (July and August 2010), looks at the issues in order to help direct marketers to identify opportunities and anticipate areas of challenge created by environmental concerns.

The research presentation will show the level of commitment consumers have to the environment and what consumers consider to be most harmful. A panel of industry experts, chaired by Radio 4 “You & Yours” presenter Liz Barclay, will then discuss what it takes to make a brand appear green and how consumers respond to different mail packs.

The event is free of charge to DMA members and £25 +VAT for non members. Places are limited. To register please visit

A new static gas analyser for anaerobic digestion (AD) biogas, and landfill gas monitoring suits tight-budget demand with top-quality design, components and engineering. The new GA3000 uses Geotech’s robust, field-proven technology to bring low-cost to automated fixed-position monitoring of methane-rich biogas. Easily operator installed, user field-calibrated and zeroed, the compact, self-contained, single-cabinet GA3000 has gas conditioning as standard. It continuously analyses CH4, CO2, O2 and optionally, H2S at 0-5000ppm. They are measured, at user-set timings, and supply data via three or four, 4-20mA local outputs. Users also set alarm levels and can see screen-displayed readings on a large, clear, backlit display.

Already creating a stir since its July 2010 preview at the UK Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas Association (ADBA) NEC show, the strong interest in the GA3000 is its application for AD, wastewater sludge treatment and landfill gas extraction. The GA3000 is available from Sept 2010.

AD is increasingly being used in waste processing and biogas production to recycle food and farm waste, avoid landfill and generate biogas and energy from waste. These AD installations, large and small, can benefit from continuous gas analysis to optimise AD, maximise output and ensure safety and compliance with environmental guidelines and legislation. Many landfill operators also seek to optimise landfill gas output and electricity generation. For each sector, reliable, proven, economic gas analysis and monitoring technology can be essential.

This new robust, reliable and cost-effective system provides continuous and accurate sampling of methane, carbon dioxide and oxygen from a single sample point. Hydrogen sulphide sampling is a GA3000 option. User field calibration of the analyser and exchange of the optional hydrogen sulphide (H2S) sensor reduce operational costs.

With no training required and engineered for low ownership cost, this ISO 17025 calibration accredited unit is designed for quick and easy self-installation in any country, worldwide. User relocation of the GA3000 is just as easy. With gas conditioning included as standard, to ensure top quality gas analysis, the user-replaceable H2S sensor and analyser ‘Hot Swap’ capability offers zero downtime.

The GA3000 adds to Geotech’s static gas analysis range which includes the current Automated Extraction Monitoring System (AEMS) that has more extensive application options with, for example, multiple sampling points, data inputs and 4-20mA local data outputs, Profibus and Modbus comms. options, Ethernet and Internet connectivity, data logging and transfer. For applications not requiring the extensive capability of Geotech AEMS, the GA3000 now delivers exactly what many users need at the very attractive package price they want - available on application.
New military-grade technical fabric meets the heat of modern lifestyles; new personal care accessory is a ‘must’ for green image-conscious consumers

A new small and totally discrete underarm clothing tag which uses nano technology to capture, store and eliminate the molecules responsible for body odour (BO) has been launched as the ultimate antidote to today’s hectic lifestyles which see millions unsatisfied with the use of deodorants alone. The breakthrough invention will come as a huge relief to those who work long hours or are ‘on the go’ until late in the day, particularly at this time of year. If you don’t like the thought of always painting or spraying on chemicals that are absorbed into your armpits then Odegon Tags are ideal for you. Designed and produced by technical fabric innovators, Odegon (for “odour, gone”) Technologies, the antisocial odour resulting from human sweat is eliminated via a teabag-sized fabric patch housing a piece of activated nano porous special material. The soft, chemical-free, odourless, inert, non-allergenic and environmentally-friendly tags are ironed on easily at home and remain permanently in place for the life of the garment where they perform regardless of the number of washes or dry cleans. Once applied you don’t even know they are there as they just seem to merge into the garment.
The tags are on sale via the Odegon website (www.odegon.com)

“Odegon Tags were discovered whilst formulating new materials for special filters to protect military personnel from lethal nerve gases and agents,” explains Odegon Technologies’ Tom Rawlings. “We were right to assume that if the material met the most demanding tests ever devised against chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) suit requirements, it would be able to tackle BO. We understand that deodorant products may not be keeping up with today’s active lifestyles and that there is consumer reluctance to throw more chemicals at the problem. We anticipate consumers will apply Odegon Tags to a core set of garments within their summer and winter wardrobes these are the clothes, that people find tend to smell even after washing. Business people can equip a week of shirts or blouses for the lifetime of the clothes, for under £20.”

17th August 2010 London – The 5th annual GREEN AWARDS™ is now accepting entries for creativity in sustainable marketing and communications.

The GLOBAL GREEN AWARDS™ are now well known in the eco calendar, recognising the best campaigns in promoting sustainability. In addition to creativity and originality, entries are also judged for their positive contribution to society in conjunction with the RSA’s Environmental Accreditation Scheme. With the purpose of seeking true communication benchmarks, this time the awards are open to global participation in all categories.

This year, the GLOBAL GREEN AWARDS™ features sixteen categories across a range of marketing and media disciplines - advertising, public relations and direct marketing, among others. Aware of innovations in marketing communications, Green Awards constantly feature new categories to reflect these developments. For this purpose, this year the Awards feature three new categories:

•	Best Green Educational Project for demonstrated ability to influence behaviour in learning environments towards a long term sustainable agenda.

•	Best Green Product Innovation to award organisations that have effectively incorporated sustainability in their bottom line through the creation of ‘green’ products.

•	Best Green Use of Mobile Apps and Technologies celebrating those who have used the mobile platform to promote green and ethical purposes, now an even greater part of our lives.

In addition to going global, the 2010 Green Awards has also appointed a ‘Steering Group’ to provide advice and guidance through the selection process. Members include respected professionals from the fields of marketing, communications and environmental organisations. Their diverse expertise will ensure that only entries displaying the best interplay of these fields are selected.

Steering group member Satinder Bindra, UNEP Director of Communications commented: “Making your voice heard and having an impact in the increasingly crowded and sometimes fatigue-laden world of environmental marketing requires persistence, creativity and the ability to take risks. Without it, I fear messages key to our very survival will not be noticed.”

Like previous years, the judging panel also boasts of prominent names associated with environment and marketing such as Johan Eliasch, Special Representative of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Chairman, HEAD; Freya Williams, MD/Planner, Ogilvy Earth; Nick Nuttall, Media Head, UNEP and Cheryl Hicks, Special Adviser on Sustainability for the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).

Judge Ian Hamilton, MD, Industry RE Limited said: “We are pleased to be associated with an awards scheme which recognises innovation and creativity globally around environmental issues as we all need to be part of the solution whilst carrying on with our daily lives. Sustainability is clearly our generations defining issue.”

Last year saw Keep Britain Tidy take the GREEN AWARDS™ Grand Prix award with their ‘Food on the Go’ campaign. Other impressive winners included The Climate Group ‘Eat Seasonably’ for Best Green Website and The Co-operative ‘Good For Everyone’ as the Best Green Integrated Campaign.

The GLOBAL GREEN AWARDS™ 2010 will take place on Thursday 2nd December 2010, where green entrepreneur Jo Wood has agreed to be co-host for the ceremony to be held at the Natural History Museum in South Kensington, London.

Entries for the GLOBAL GREEN AWARDS™ 2010 will close on 30th September. Further details regarding categories and entry submission can be found at www.greenawards.com.

Dataq Technologies have launched a low-cost aerial photography and survey service using state-of-the-art remote control UAVs which are efficient, quiet and safe to use in almost all situations.

Dataq Technologies Managing Director Dominic Blundell describes this new service as 'bringing the benefits of aerial surveys to a wider audience and with greater accuracy, detail and relevance than has previously been available'.

In addition to low cost, the small electrically powered UAVs can fly closer to buildings than full size aircraft and the client can watch the results on a live video downlink allowing them to direct the images taken.

Uses of the service include:

- Close up examination of the condition of structures

- Promotional photographs of property developments

- Archaeological land surveys

- Recording the sites of accidents such as serious fires or explosions

- Accessing difficult to reach structures

The drones used weigh less than one kilo and are electrically powered allowing them to be unobtrusive and safe for use in almost every situation. Dataq is licensed to operate UAVs by the Civil Aviation Authority and their drones can be used routinely up to 120 metres and much higher with individual permission from the CAA.

Dataq Technologies is a data acquisition company created through collaboration with the University of Warwick to provide innovative survey and data collection services. Areas of expertise include remote control aerial survey and photography services and using automatic data acquisition technologies such as RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) to track assets throughout supply chains.

“Electromagnetic pollution may be the most significant form of pollution human activity has produced in this century, all the more dangerous because it is invisible and insensible.”
Andrew Weil, M.D., author of Spontaneous Healing and 8 Weeks to Optimum Health

August 2010 - Crystals are wonderful aids in all areas of life yet can they really help with the effects of radiation and electromagnetic pollution, now more prevalent in all of ours lives with the explosive proliferation of radio-technology for private and business use including mobile phones, wi-fi and Bluetooth technologies? This abundant 'pulsed high frequency radiation' and the effect on human health is controversial and there continues to be a lot of misunderstanding about the use of crystals for protection. Now, leading crystal expert and building biologist, Barbara Newerla, reveals how specific crystals can help us and what they do (and what they can't do) in Protect Yourself from Electromagnetic Pollution by using Crystals Findhorn Press, £4.99, releasing November 2010.

But first, what is electromagnetic pollution? It is a term that refers to the radiation given off by all man-made electrical appliances and devices. It actually consists of two different types of field: magnetic and electrical. The active electromagnetic 'field' is always present in our homes, offices and public spaces. We can't see it but human beings do feel its stressful effects. These active fields are created whenever and wherever an electrical appliance or transmitter is transmitting. It comes through electrical apparatus or appliances and their cables and leads and through the sockets in the walls, railways and tramlines.

"The problem is that we all have far too many electrical appliances in our lives. It is essential that we educate ourselves about protection strategies so that we can limit the negative effects," says Barbara. "Crystals are wonderful aids for this. Electromagnetic pollution affects the body by placing it under continual stress! In addition to the other stress factors of modern everyday living, stress from radiation (such as electromagnetic pollution) triggers a stress reaction in the human body, with all the associated short-term and log-term consequences. If we are subject to radiation on a continual basis, the stress reaction is stimulated again and again. The condition becomes chronic, leading first to constant over-stimulation and finally to exhaustion within the organism.”

How to use crystals to negate/repel electromagnetic pollution stress: As crystals work in an energetic way rather than physical and they therefore can support our energetic body from 'EP' and work optimally when we remove as many of the 'coarse' interfering physical stimuli that blocks our ability to react and resonate with our own energetic systems.

Crystals can then help us:

•	Cope with the remaining inevitable stresses of modern life, as well as fortifying the body and soul
•	Alleviate or heal the consequences of previous stresses and promote wellbeing

Your 'EP' protection crystal toolkit:
For best effects, carry a tumblestone in your pocket or wear a pendant worn next to the skin:

Rock Crystal, Rose Quartz, Black Tourmaline,
Tourmaline Quartz, Smokey Quartz or Tekite

"We have a responsibility and an obligation to help ourselves and our families," advises Barbara. "Removing plugs from the socket will disconnect the active field, so do this as a rule whenever you can. Audit the amount of electrical appliances in your life. Apply more commonsense! Educate your children about this! By understanding that there is a cumulative effect of all man-made electrical appliances on our physical body might make us think twice about all those new gadgets we just don't need!"

Protecting Yourself from Electromagnetic Pollution Using Crystals is a short-read (just 60 pages) and has useful advice on which crystals to use for additional protection/boundary setting, for strengthening life energy/power and vitality, for strengthening the centre/stability, for strengthening the nervous system, to boost metabolism and aid detoxification/elimination.

From the Normans to the English Civil War, 600 years of English history and warfare will be on display over the August bank holiday weekend at Kenilworth Castle & Elizabethan Garden in a stunning two-day event looking at Kenilworth Through the Ages!

Over the weekend, re-enactors from four key periods in Kenilworth’s history will re-create some of the battles and peacetime events which left their mark on the castle’s design and structure, from the first construction of the keep during the Norman period, to the destruction of the castle’s defences following the English Civil War.

Each day, Kenilworth’s main arena area will highlight the skills of soldiers from different eras:
•	Re-enactors from Conquest displaying the Norman might that saw the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings defeated in the 11th and 12th centuries.
•	Knights in shining armour demonstrating their skills on horseback in mounted skill at arms, whilst their squires engage in foot drills and combat
•	Four Tudor guns – including one of the only replica hail’shot piece guns in existence, and anti-personnel gun used on board ships like Henry VIII’s flagship Mary Rose, and an early Tudor ‘culverin’, a cannon that would have been mounted on a bed stock and frame in castles like Kenilworth
•	The Marquess of Winchester’s Regiment, demonstrating musket firing and pike drill

“Each of the groups will have their own living history encampment, so you cannot only see how people lived in each of the different periods, but also compare and contrast the advances in the weaponry that were used by the military across Kenilworth Castle’s 600 years of active military service,” explains English Heritage’s regional events manager, Tom Course. “One of the highlights of the event will be the firing of the four Tudor guns, using real gunpowder – the authentic sound of these cannons firing is one that resounded around battlefields for the next 500 years.”

Indeed, although the guns will not be loaded with any ammunition – to obtain a blank fire, the gunpowder is put in, followed by dry and then wet wadding but with no projectile – firing them will be the only person in the UK outside of the military who is qualified to fire real cannon balls, re-enactor and arms expert, Colin Herriott of the Courtney Household and Stargun Company.

The action-packed event runs from 11.00am to 5.00pm on Sunday 29 and Bank Holiday Monday 30 August at Kenilworth Castle & Elizabethan Garden, with castle itself being open from 10am. Admission prices are £9.60 for adults, £8.50 for concessions and £5.80 for children, or £25.00 for a family ticket (two adults and up to three children). English Heritage members receive discounted entry of £2.00, £1.50, £1.00 and £5.00 respectively. Pre-booking is strongly recommended, call 0870 333 1183 to book or visit www.english-heritage.org.uk/events

Please note that a Park & Ride service operated by Johnson’s Shuttle Bus runs every 10-15 minutes from 10am – 6pm from the Kenilworth Clock Tower bus stop (in front of the Kenilworth Inn). Visitors are requested to park in the town centre car parks, charges may apply. There are limited disabled parking spaces in the main Castle car park, please ring ahead for more details.
