The first ever North Norfolk Food and Drink Festival is being held, to celebrate all that is good in Norfolk’s thriving food and drink industry.

The North Norfolk Business Forum has created the free event, which is being held in the beautiful courtyard at Holkham Hall, home to the Earl of Leicester. The festival will bring together almost fifty local suppliers of food and drink, all of whom will bring their produce for visitors to sample and buy.

In addition, central to the entertainment at the Food Festival is the Food Theatre which will see ten chefs from the region’s finest hotels and restaurants present a full programme of demonstrations and exhilarating exhibition cookery.

The festival is the brainchild of Teddy Maufe, a well-known figure in Norfolk with a passion for the excellence of the produce that comes from the region. The North Norfolk Business Forum Agriculture Round Table, of which Teddy is a member, then took up the project. Ian Doughty, Chairman of North Norfolk Business Forum said:

“We are lucky to have such a diverse range of food and drink producers in North Norfolk, plus a reservoir of talented chefs who appreciate the excellence of what is produced here.”

He continued, “There is no entry fee* to the Festival, so this is a unique opportunity for everyone to come along, be entertained and see exactly what fine foods our region has to offer. It may well be an eye-opener, plus a great day out.”

The North Norfolk Food Festival is being held the weekend of 4th and 5th September at Holkham Hall, and will be open from 10am. *Holkham Hall will collect a parking fee.

Bodybuilders and athletes know that one of the main keys to success is building muscle strength. After two years in development, a new, safe and all-natural dietary supplement is now available to give these athletes even better results.

Scientists have been working with some of the world’s top athletes to produce this new generation of bodybuilding supplement called Bio Forge Pro Max. The product, developed by Biotivia Bioceuticals, is a dietary supplement that increases muscle definition, reduces fat density and improves recovery times.

Supplements can be a big aid to training and to improving strength and performance. This new supplement is an exciting addition to Biotivia’s existing, best-selling collection of products for bodybuilders, Bio Forge lean mass building supplement range.

Bio Forge Pro Max’s muscle building properties have been tested over a two-year period. Bio Forge Pro Max has been found to be effective without the normal side effects associated with other body building products.

Bio Forge is the fastest-growing new bodybuilding supplement in the US. Biotivia Bioceuticals is a leading manufacturer and distributor of Resveratrol-based supplements, which are causing a stir among scientists for their anti-aging properties and huge potential for a wide range of health benefits. Experts believe the natural plant-based compound can simulate the body’s natural defences against cell damage, protecting them against age-related diseases.

Development

Before the development process began, Biotivia asked several champion bodybuilders what they wanted in a supplement. Their responses included better muscle definition, faster and better recovery after workouts, less muscular aches and fatigue, less mental fatigue, more energy and stamina, improved mental focus and reducing fat density.

Based on these key factors, the company set about testing various combinations of ingredients that could achieve the desired results.
Bodybuilders usually need to take a number of several different supplements to achieve the desired results. But with Bio Forge Pro Max, its clinically proven formula combines all these elements in one.
Results
James Betz, CEO and founder of Biotivia, which has produced the new Bio Forge Pro Max supplement, said, “Bio Forge Pro Max is the ultimate answer to every bodybuilder’s and extreme athlete’s demand. Our results have shown a huge improvement in overall strength, muscle mass and recovery time after training.”
Bio Forge Pro Max has been tested by hard-core bodybuilders and athletes who have achieved documented positive results. The new supplement has been developed to be used in conjunction with the existing and hugely popular Bio Forge. Both products work together to achieve even greater results.

All-natural

The new supplement is a combination of Forskolin, Fadogia Agrestis, Cholecalciferol and 7-methoxyflavone. Scientists at Biotivia say the product increases anabolic and thermogenic conditioning, boosts lipolysis and contains aromatase inhibitors that help lower oestrogen levels while causing an increase in testosterone levels.

Bio Forge’s bodybuilding supplements are clinically proven to:

1.	Enhance body mass
2.	Reduce fat mass to support better definition
3.	Support libido and sexual function
4.	Ensure faster recovery times and more productive workouts
5.	Boost both total and free testosterone, verified by serum profiles.

This summer's blockbuster could emerge from Appledore in Kent after Josephine Buchan, TV presenter and theatre producer, was drafted in by Joe Ellis' Tea Room Guide to direct and present what is thought to be the first ever tea room feature film.

Joe Ellis’ Tea Room Guide commissioned Harold Trill of HAT Productions to record the feature on film at Miss Mollett’s High Class Tea Room www.missmollettstearoom.co.uk in Appledore, Kent, which is owned and run by sisters, Frances and Alex. Former BBC Pebble Mill presenter Josephine Buchan provided her production expertise for the film.

If top billing in a feature film wasn't enough for the sisters, their tea room was also awarded a coveted Joe Ellis’ Tea Room Guide Highly Recommended accolade. The film is being premiered on the Joe Ellis Tea Room Guide website at www.tea-room-guide.org.uk/buchan

Joe Ellis, founder of the tea room guide, says:

"I was absolutely delighted that Josephine Buchan added her expertise to the film. Her direction and presentation add immense weight to what is new ground in the tea room fraternity. I hope that this film sends out a clear message that the English tea
room is alive and kicking.

“The fact we are premiering the film on the Joe Ellis Tea Room Guide website is testament to the fact that tea room fans are embracing online media as a format by which they can enjoy their interest."

Josephine Buchan, who also featured on television and radio favourites The House of Elliott, Wish You Were Here and Loose Ends, to name but a few, says:

"This project allowed me to feed my experience in television and theatre into a whole new type of project. I doubt many people can say they were involved in the first tea room feature film! Not only did I get to work with an interesting team of people, but it was a pleasure to see that the traditional English tea room remains a prominent feature in so many people's daily lives. I hope that the film goes someway in harnessing that enthusiasm for such an English institution."

The new film is the latest addition to Joe Ellis' Tea Room Guide www.tea-room-guide.org.uk, a hot bed of information for tea and tea room lovers, providing tips on tea making, photographs of tea rooms, reviews, tea facts and more. Joe Ellis’ forth-coming book, Joe Ellis’ Tea Room Guide A Guide to English Tea Rooms will feature Highly Recommended and Recommended winners.

An off-shoot of the site is Time for Tea magazine, which was launched earlier this year and provides tea room features, articles on the history of tea, health benefits of drinking tea and world tea news, as well as an article on the five major tea regions. The full colour magazine, which is free, professionally produced and only requires postage costs, runs in conjunction with the tea room guide website, as well as Joe Ellis' tea room blog.

Joe Ellis, who is chairman of the National Association of Karate and Martial Art Schools (NAKMAS - www.nakmas.org.uk), the national martial arts governing body, will list tea rooms on the website that he considers Highly Recommended, Recommended, but also those in the ‘Not my cup of tea’ category. Those tearooms that he feels are Highly Recommended and Recommended will bear a window sticker and be issued a certificate.

Tearooms have provided Joe with a comfortable setting for many years. Joe has Asperger’s Syndrome, a form of autism, and dislikes very crowded places, prefers quieter environments, and can easily be overwhelmed if too much is happening at once. He also gets very disturbed when there are constant banging noises or shouting. Tearooms provide a tranquil environment where Joe feels more comfortable.

Frances and Alex, owners of Miss Mollett’s High Class Tea Room, said: "To receive the Highly Recommended status from Joe Ellis' Tea Room guide is a real boost for the tea room and our customers. It is a seal of approval. Then, to feature in a film, is an added bonus. It was an enjoyable experience to work with Josephine on the film. We are secretly hoping the phone calls from Hollywood will start coming through shortly."
25th August 2010 – In celebration of centuries of picnicking, social entrepreneur and outdoor events planner Pete Lawrence has declared Monday 30th August as National Picnic Day.

“Sharing good times and ideas is at the very heart of my new venture,” said Lawrence. “People have been having picnics for centuries whatever the weather. I wanted to celebrate the sociable and fun side of this great British pastime as a warm up to an exciting new social networking community that will be launched on 7th September called Pic-Nic Village (more about meeting than eating). National Picnic Day is an opportunity for everybody to share some time (and food) with friends and family, languishing, lolling and laughing.”

Chilling out under the dappled shade of an ancient Oak, lolling by the still waters of a lake or sheltering from the crashing surf a beach are all great examples of how to spend time with a picnic on Monday 30th August.

The National Pic-Nic day website gives further information to anyone interested in planning a picnic - including what to take, sample picnic treats and some fun facts and quotes about picnicking too.

People are invited to share their ideas and picnic experiences too. Pic-Nic Village will be offering three lucky picnickers the chance to win a jolly nice organic food hamper worth £70 from The Fine Food Store in exchange for sending in some picnic pics, with some words on where you went, who joined you and the contents of your basket. The most original entry will be rewarded with this fabulous prize that certainly puts any warm curly egg mayo sarnies to shame.

So, put the date in your diary and start calling, social networking and even talking to friends and family. Spread the word so they can spread the sandwiches – Monday 30th August is National Picnic Day. Follow us on twitter www.twitter.com/picnicdayuk and if you want to follow the event on facebook click here.

A new static gas analyser for anaerobic digestion (AD) biogas, and landfill gas monitoring suits tight-budget demand with top-quality design, components and engineering. The new GA3000 uses Geotech’s robust, field-proven technology to bring low-cost to automated fixed-position monitoring of methane-rich biogas. Easily operator installed, user field-calibrated and zeroed, the compact, self-contained, single-cabinet GA3000 has gas conditioning as standard. It continuously analyses CH4, CO2, O2 and optionally, H2S at 0-5000ppm. They are measured, at user-set timings, and supply data via three or four, 4-20mA local outputs. Users also set alarm levels and can see screen-displayed readings on a large, clear, backlit display.

Already creating a stir since its July 2010 preview at the UK Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas Association (ADBA) NEC show, the strong interest in the GA3000 is its application for AD, wastewater sludge treatment and landfill gas extraction. The GA3000 is available from Sept 2010.

AD is increasingly being used in waste processing and biogas production to recycle food and farm waste, avoid landfill and generate biogas and energy from waste. These AD installations, large and small, can benefit from continuous gas analysis to optimise AD, maximise output and ensure safety and compliance with environmental guidelines and legislation. Many landfill operators also seek to optimise landfill gas output and electricity generation. For each sector, reliable, proven, economic gas analysis and monitoring technology can be essential.

This new robust, reliable and cost-effective system provides continuous and accurate sampling of methane, carbon dioxide and oxygen from a single sample point. Hydrogen sulphide sampling is a GA3000 option. User field calibration of the analyser and exchange of the optional hydrogen sulphide (H2S) sensor reduce operational costs.

With no training required and engineered for low ownership cost, this ISO 17025 calibration accredited unit is designed for quick and easy self-installation in any country, worldwide. User relocation of the GA3000 is just as easy. With gas conditioning included as standard, to ensure top quality gas analysis, the user-replaceable H2S sensor and analyser ‘Hot Swap’ capability offers zero downtime.

The GA3000 adds to Geotech’s static gas analysis range which includes the current Automated Extraction Monitoring System (AEMS) that has more extensive application options with, for example, multiple sampling points, data inputs and 4-20mA local data outputs, Profibus and Modbus comms. options, Ethernet and Internet connectivity, data logging and transfer. For applications not requiring the extensive capability of Geotech AEMS, the GA3000 now delivers exactly what many users need at the very attractive package price they want - available on application.
New military-grade technical fabric meets the heat of modern lifestyles; new personal care accessory is a ‘must’ for green image-conscious consumers

A new small and totally discrete underarm clothing tag which uses nano technology to capture, store and eliminate the molecules responsible for body odour (BO) has been launched as the ultimate antidote to today’s hectic lifestyles which see millions unsatisfied with the use of deodorants alone. The breakthrough invention will come as a huge relief to those who work long hours or are ‘on the go’ until late in the day, particularly at this time of year. If you don’t like the thought of always painting or spraying on chemicals that are absorbed into your armpits then Odegon Tags are ideal for you. Designed and produced by technical fabric innovators, Odegon (for “odour, gone”) Technologies, the antisocial odour resulting from human sweat is eliminated via a teabag-sized fabric patch housing a piece of activated nano porous special material. The soft, chemical-free, odourless, inert, non-allergenic and environmentally-friendly tags are ironed on easily at home and remain permanently in place for the life of the garment where they perform regardless of the number of washes or dry cleans. Once applied you don’t even know they are there as they just seem to merge into the garment.
The tags are on sale via the Odegon website (www.odegon.com)

“Odegon Tags were discovered whilst formulating new materials for special filters to protect military personnel from lethal nerve gases and agents,” explains Odegon Technologies’ Tom Rawlings. “We were right to assume that if the material met the most demanding tests ever devised against chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) suit requirements, it would be able to tackle BO. We understand that deodorant products may not be keeping up with today’s active lifestyles and that there is consumer reluctance to throw more chemicals at the problem. We anticipate consumers will apply Odegon Tags to a core set of garments within their summer and winter wardrobes these are the clothes, that people find tend to smell even after washing. Business people can equip a week of shirts or blouses for the lifetime of the clothes, for under £20.”

Oats have been grown for over 2,000 years so it’s no surprise that they’re a household favourite for meals throughout the day. But how many of us know just how much of a contribution oats can make to a healthy diet?

Nutritionist Fiona Hunter says, “There is a well established body of evidence from around the world to show that oats offer a whole range of health benefits including reduction of cholesterol levels and management of blood sugar levels. In addition to these benefits exciting new research has been published which suggests that they may also have a role in keeping the immune system healthy.”

Professor Rickard Öste, Professor of Food Chemistry at the Lund Institute of Technology in Sweden, who helped develop Oatly, explains “In a large number of clinical studies, oats have been proven to have characteristics that reduce cholesterol and here at Lund, we have been undertaking research since the 90s to increase our knowledge of all the natural health benefits of oats. For example, we are currently working on a trial with the Chinese Ministry of Health using Oatly Enriched oat drink with school children.

The secret of oats’ natural health benefits lies in the water-soluble fibres contained in oats, also known as beta-glucans, which are activated on their way through the intestinal tract. These beta-glucans are thought to have a cholesterol lowering effect so if the oat drink or product you buy doesn’t contain any beta-glucans, it won’t have the cholesterol lowering effect of natural oats.

Today increasing numbers of people consume medication to bring down their cholesterol count and/or foods that contain substances similar to such medication. In contrast to such strategies, oats have the great advantage that they are a natural food and that there is no risk of overdosing.”

Top five facts about oats:

1.	Oats contain both soluble fibres such as beta-glucan and insoluble fibres. Both types of fibre help keep the body healthy in a different way. Insoluble fibre may help maintain digestive health. The soluble fibre found in oats, known as beta-glucan, can help reduce LDL ‘bad’ cholesterol levels by encouraging the body to excrete cholesterol before it can be absorbed into the blood stream. Choose pure oats with all the beta-glucan locked in for maximum health benefits for cooking and drinking. A raised cholesterol level is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke.

Fiona Hunter says, “Many of the health benefits of oats come from the fibre component, especially a type of soluble fibre called beta-glucan, which is known to have a cholesterol lowering effect. Fibre also promotes digestive health so when choosing an oat drink it’s important to choose a brand that contains beta-glucan.”

Tip: Just one 250ml glass of Oatly oat drink, the only oat drink brand permitted to make a beta-glucan cholesterol lowering claim, provides a third (1g) of the daily requirement of beta-glucans which has been shown to help reduce raised cholesterol levels.

2.	Oats provide low GI carbohydrates so they can therefore help to control blood glucose levels by reducing post-meal rises in blood glucose levels and providing a steady release of energy. Increased blood sugar levels are believed to be linked with a number of health problems.

3.	Oats contain more protein than other cereals and the proteins in oats are almost in perfect proportion to the body’s needs. High in lysine which is often low in other cereal grains, oats bring a real balance to your protein needs. They are a useful source of the amino acid tryptophan which is used to make the ‘feel-good’ hormone serotonin in the brain. Check the label of the oat drink or product you buy for the benchmark of 1g of protein per 100ml so that you know that you’re getting all the natural health benefits of pure oats.

Tip: For a hot chocolate which can help you relax without piling on the calories, heat up Oatly Chocolate oat drink instead of your usual hot chocolate mix (only 55kcal per 100ml).

4.	Oats contain slow energy release carbohydrates and are high in soluble fibre. The beta-glucans in oats provide a slow assimilation of carbohydrates leading to a prolonged sense of feeling full which makes it easier to stop reaching for snacks between meals.

Tip: Cookery expert Lorna Rhodes says, “Swap a 50g bowl of crunchy nut cereal for a 65g bowl of sugar free muesli, and with Oatly Organic or Enriched oat drink and chopped banana it will become a better balanced breakfast. By making your morning porridge with Oatly oat drink, you’ll get a double dose of cholesterol lowering oats in one bowlful. Kids may like to try Oatly Chocolate on their morning cereal too.”

5.	The Food Standards Agency is currently campaigning to make the British public aware of the need to reduce saturated fat in our daily diets. Swapping full fat dairy products for alternatives which are lower in saturates is one simple way to achieve this. Oats have a fat content of 7% and the main part is unsaturated.

Tip: Oatly oat drink is heat-stable, so it is also ideal for use in cooking and baking instead of dairy milk or cream and because it contains less saturated fat and is very low in sodium, it is a healthy alternative. Oatly is naturally low fat: per 100g

•	Oatly Organic has 0.7g fat (of which 0.1g is saturated, 0.3g is monounsaturated and 0.3g is polyunsaturated)
•	Oatly Enriched has 1.5g fat (of which 0.2g is saturated, 0.8g is monounsaturated and 0.5g is polyunsaturated)
•	Oatly Chocolate has 1.5g fat (of which 0.2g is saturated, 0.8g is monounsaturated and 0.5g is polyunsaturated)
•	Oatly Cream has 13g (of which 3g is saturated, 7g monounsaturated and 3g polyunsaturated)
Notes to Editors:

•	Keep some cartons of Oatly in your cupboard for when you run out of milk for drinking and cooking or for when you fancy a tasty change. Oatly stays fresh for 4-5 days in the refrigerator after opening. Jameela Jamil, Loyd Grossman, Jade Jagger and Lisa Snowdon are all Oatly fans so you’ll be in good company!

•	Oatly oat drinks are delicious on their own (check out the Chocolate variety with only 55 kcal per 100ml) and also make a great low-fat addition to a fruit smoothie. As Oatly is heat-stable, it’s also ideal for use in cooking and baking instead of dairy milk or cream.
•	Oatly oat drinks are available from Waitrose, selected Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Morrisons and ASDA stores as well as Holland & Barrett and independent health stores. Oatly Organic and Oatly Enriched cost around £1.39 for a one litre pack, Oatly Chocolate is around £1.49 for a one litre pack and Oatly Organic Dairy-Free Alternative to Cream is around 79p for a 250ml pack.
Winners to be announced at prestige beer banquet

The winners will be announced at the British Guild of Beer Writers annual awards dinner. The event is being held on 25 November at the Radisson Bloomsbury with the meal prepared by Michelin starred chef, Sriram Aylur, from the Quilon Restaurant in London - www.quilon.co.uk.
Sriram will showcase the food of India’s south-west coast and his passion for beer. The cuisine is light and fragrant offering flavours that will complement and contrast a selection of beer pairings.
Sriram, who first made his name in India as executive chef of the Karavali restaurant in Bangalore, was ranked one of India’s top five chefs; he has since brought his enthusiasm for home-style, south Indian cuisine to London.
Sriram’s menu features a modern and stylish take on traditional flavours with a fabulous beer list to match. Sriram also stands tall on the global stage, each year preparing banquets for delegates at the Davos World Economic Forum.

Current Beer Writer of the Year Pete Brown has agreed to be chairman of the judges. Pete Brown is author of Man Walks into a Pub, Three Sheets to the Wind and Hops and Glory, and the annual Cask Report.
He will be supported by:

Niki Segnit - Author of this year’s breakthrough cook book The Flavour Thesaurus, a compendium of flavours with recommendations on how to pair them. Heston Blumenthal calls it ‘An original and inspiring resource’ and it’s basically selling copies as fast as Bloomsbury can reprint them.

If you think your microwave is only suitable for preservative-packed ready meals or for speedy baked potatoes, help is here. The Microsteamer makes the most of that kitchen time saver by using it to get perfectly steamed vegetables or beautifully fluffy rice in double quick time.

Harnessing the microwave’s time saving ability means you can steam vegetables in really quick time. Crunchy carrots? Mmm! That’ll take ten minutes. Nutrition packed peppers? Yum! That’s just five minutes. Better yet the Microsteamer has a two litre capacity, meaning you can jam-pack it with all sorts of steamable goodies. TV dinner anyone? Your microwave shall never be soiled again!

Set to sort out the ready meal generation, the Microsteamer comprises a perforated basket and a bowl. Just pop your vegetables in the basket, add some water to the bowl and pop it in the microwave. You’ll have crunchy vegetables in next to no time. Mmmm!

Its non-stick and stain-proof. So that means you won’t be cleaning any stubborn food stains. It retails at £7.99 from www.JMLdirect.com.

Makro predicts 150 per cent ROI after implementing StepStone Solutions’ e-recruitment platform to streamline recruitment

London, 18 August: Makro, one of the UK’s largest wholesalers, has implemented StepStone Solutions’ e-recruitment platform to handle its recruitment processes through its new online careers portal www.makrocareers.co.uk. Despite only going live in June 2010 Makro has already forecast a 150 per cent return on investment (ROI) within 12 months.

The new e-recruitment solution has already had a significant impact. Within the first week of going live Makro processed over 350 applications resulting in the company making immediate hires through its new careers portal. Makro also received almost 27,000 site hits and roughly 5,500 job views within the first seven days. For a company that ordinarily received 200 speculative CVs every day, StepStone Solutions has helped streamline its recruitment considerably. Filter questions for each vacancy reduce the number of unsuitable applications, while conducting the entire recruitment process online, from application to arranging interviews, significantly reduces the administrative burden and, as a result, reduces time to hire.

With a workforce of 4,400 employees across its 30 UK stores Makro places an emphasis on customer service – it is therefore vital that it recruits employees that will reflect this ethos. The customised system, which was implemented in less than three months, gives hiring managers, HR professionals and business leaders greater visibility of the positions and candidates available. They can also search the portal for potential recruits by location and department, as well as via a key-word search. In addition, candidates can opt to receive job alerts when future positions become available. The highly efficient system is also expected to have a positive impact on Makro’s employer brand as applicants are informed of their progress quickly and accurately, with all communication taking place through the portal.

Nicola Lake, head of resourcing at Makro, comments: “Our new careers website will not only transform the way candidates can search for and apply for jobs, but also improve our in-house management of the recruitment process. The majority of the job applications we were receiving were speculative, but our new system gives greater visibility of what opportunities exist at Makro for those wanting to join us. It even provides automated job alerts which eliminate a lot of the admin for us. Our investment in www.makrocareers.co.uk sets us apart from our competitors and we want to do everything we can to attract the best talent to deliver the best possible service to our customers.”

Matthew Parker, CEO of StepStone Solutions comments: “Makro reaped the benefits of our e-recruitment system in the first week, and estimating an ROI of 150 per cent in the first 12 months demonstrates the solution’s ability to cut costs and improve efficiencies from the off-set. It is vital that companies like Makro have a cost-effective, seamless recruitment process if they are to attract and recruit the right talent and we’re delighted to have put them on the right track to achieving these objectives.”

In July, Makro launched an employee referral scheme and the company is currently considering additional StepStone Solution products to enhance its career programme.

Makro

With more than 35,000 products in every store and over 2,000 fresh lines, Makro is one of the UK’s largest cash and carry operators. Employing 4,400 people in stores which stretch from the north of Scotland to the south of England, Makro is part of METRO Cash & Carry.

METRO Cash & Carry is represented in 30 countries with around 670 self-service wholesale stores. With more than 100,000 employees worldwide, the company achieved sales of about € 31 billion in 2009. METRO Cash & Carry is a sales division of the METRO Group, one of the most important international trading companies. In 2009 the Group reached sales of around € 66 billion. The company has a headcount of some 300,000 employees and operates more than 2,100 stores in 32 countries. The Group’s performance is based on the strength of its sales divisions which operate independently in their respective market segment: METRO/MAKRO Cash & Carry – the international leader in self-service wholesale, Real hypermarkets, Media Markt and Saturn – European market leader in consumer electronics retailing, and Galeria Kaufhof department stores.
