The transfer window has slammed shut, until January at least, but the bookmakers have clearly been following Tuesday’s transfer activity closely, with a host of special bets on offer ahead of next weekend’s Premier League matches.

Gaming Supermarket has found that whilst the Premiership might be taking a week off for the international fixtures, the bookmakers have been running the rule over the key signings of transfer deadline day and judging who will and who won’t be able to make an instant impression for their new clubs.

With Ghanaian World Cup star Asamoah Gyan signing on at Sunderland and former Bolton and Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnson arriving at Stoke City in two of the bigger deals of the day, SkyBet have opened the book on their impact for their new clubs, with 109/10 available that both men get off to a scoring start on their Premier League debuts.

With Sunderland set to face struggling Wigan in their next Premier League fixture, Gyan is 12/5 to score a goal on his Sunderland debut, with 14/1 that he bags a double and 80/1 that he makes the best possible impression with a hat-trick on debut.

Gudjohnson, despite his previous Premier League experience, is a lightly longer 5/2 to score on debut, which could come against Aston Villa a week on Monday. Like Gyan, he is 14/1 for a brace and 80/1 to score three.

Stan James is also offering a range of specials on transfer deadline day signings, with Gudjohnson their favourite to score on debut at 9/4. He is followed by Franco Di Santo, who joined Wigan from Chelsea, at 7/2 and Gyan at 4/1.

Stan James are also offering 6/5 that Gudjohnson nets more than 6.5 goals over the course of the Premier League season and 8/13 that he falls under that target. Gyan is expected to have more luck in front of goal however, priced at 10/11 to score more than 7.5 goals.
Stan James is also offering a range of prices on Rafael van der Vaart, who received last-minute clearance for his surprise move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The bookie is 5/1 that the Dutch midfielder scores on his debut and 4/6 that he scores more than 4.5 goals over the course of the season. He is also expected to edge out would-be teammate in the goal scoring stakes, with even money on van der Vaart scoring more goals than Modric this season.

Wild Bunch Media has announced the launch of Men’s Running, its second launch within a year, following the success of Women’s Running.

The first issue of Men’s Running magazine goes on sale this Thursday, 2nd September with its digital platform live at www.mensrunninguk.co.uk

Men’s Running is the UK’s first running magazine just for men and will deliver credible and authoritative running content for beginners and regular runners in a style and tone which modern men respond to.

Editor Danny Coyle says: ‘Running hasn’t been perceived as cool in the past but that has changed. Like most men, blokes who run care about their gear and gadgets, they like to laugh and love impressing their mates and, of course, women. Men’s Running will offer a humorous, yet edgy editorial style and will target the average bloke who runs but probably doesn’t define himself purely as a runner.’

Coyle adds: ‘Our target reader runs to get fit for other sports, to lose his beer belly, to challenge and be better than his mates, to impress women and, as a result, enjoy a better quality of life – all thanks to running.’

Kevin McCormick, director at WBM, says: ‘Since its launch, Women’s Running has grown the running sector at news-stand by over 40% due to its editorial quality and relevance to women who run. Insights from our research suggest that Men’s Running will grow this sector further for the same reasons: quality and relevance. There are over a million men who run in the UK and many are now sophisticated consumers of magazines and users of digital media. Men’s Running will deliver content they want in a style and tone which they now expect. We will bring more purchasers to the news-stand and create a new audience for advertisers in print and online’.

With an initial print run of 35,000, Men’s Running magazine will be available nationwide in major retailers including WH Smith, Tesco, Sainsbury, Morrisons, ASDA, Waitrose, Martin McColl, Easons and all good newsagents. It is priced at £4.20.

Notes for editors

Wild Bunch Media was established in June 2009 by former Rodale/Natmags Publishing Director Nick Troop and IPC Circulation Director Kevin McCormick. WBM is building a range of products across all media platforms in the fitness and health sectors.

Women’s Running was launched in December 2009 in both print and online formats. Women’s Running magazine has achieved an average circulation of over 20,000 and established as the number two in the running market from launch. The online platform, www.womensrunninguk.co.uk is a social networking site which allows women who run to build profiles, upload their running routes, meet other women runners privately or publicly through the forums and access content.

This summer's blockbuster could emerge from Appledore in Kent after Josephine Buchan, TV presenter and theatre producer, was drafted in by Joe Ellis' Tea Room Guide to direct and present what is thought to be the first ever tea room feature film.

Joe Ellis’ Tea Room Guide commissioned Harold Trill of HAT Productions to record the feature on film at Miss Mollett’s High Class Tea Room www.missmollettstearoom.co.uk in Appledore, Kent, which is owned and run by sisters, Frances and Alex. Former BBC Pebble Mill presenter Josephine Buchan provided her production expertise for the film.

If top billing in a feature film wasn't enough for the sisters, their tea room was also awarded a coveted Joe Ellis’ Tea Room Guide Highly Recommended accolade. The film is being premiered on the Joe Ellis Tea Room Guide website at www.tea-room-guide.org.uk/buchan

Joe Ellis, founder of the tea room guide, says:

"I was absolutely delighted that Josephine Buchan added her expertise to the film. Her direction and presentation add immense weight to what is new ground in the tea room fraternity. I hope that this film sends out a clear message that the English tea
room is alive and kicking.

“The fact we are premiering the film on the Joe Ellis Tea Room Guide website is testament to the fact that tea room fans are embracing online media as a format by which they can enjoy their interest."

Josephine Buchan, who also featured on television and radio favourites The House of Elliott, Wish You Were Here and Loose Ends, to name but a few, says:

"This project allowed me to feed my experience in television and theatre into a whole new type of project. I doubt many people can say they were involved in the first tea room feature film! Not only did I get to work with an interesting team of people, but it was a pleasure to see that the traditional English tea room remains a prominent feature in so many people's daily lives. I hope that the film goes someway in harnessing that enthusiasm for such an English institution."

The new film is the latest addition to Joe Ellis' Tea Room Guide www.tea-room-guide.org.uk, a hot bed of information for tea and tea room lovers, providing tips on tea making, photographs of tea rooms, reviews, tea facts and more. Joe Ellis’ forth-coming book, Joe Ellis’ Tea Room Guide A Guide to English Tea Rooms will feature Highly Recommended and Recommended winners.

An off-shoot of the site is Time for Tea magazine, which was launched earlier this year and provides tea room features, articles on the history of tea, health benefits of drinking tea and world tea news, as well as an article on the five major tea regions. The full colour magazine, which is free, professionally produced and only requires postage costs, runs in conjunction with the tea room guide website, as well as Joe Ellis' tea room blog.

Joe Ellis, who is chairman of the National Association of Karate and Martial Art Schools (NAKMAS - www.nakmas.org.uk), the national martial arts governing body, will list tea rooms on the website that he considers Highly Recommended, Recommended, but also those in the ‘Not my cup of tea’ category. Those tearooms that he feels are Highly Recommended and Recommended will bear a window sticker and be issued a certificate.

Tearooms have provided Joe with a comfortable setting for many years. Joe has Asperger’s Syndrome, a form of autism, and dislikes very crowded places, prefers quieter environments, and can easily be overwhelmed if too much is happening at once. He also gets very disturbed when there are constant banging noises or shouting. Tearooms provide a tranquil environment where Joe feels more comfortable.

Frances and Alex, owners of Miss Mollett’s High Class Tea Room, said: "To receive the Highly Recommended status from Joe Ellis' Tea Room guide is a real boost for the tea room and our customers. It is a seal of approval. Then, to feature in a film, is an added bonus. It was an enjoyable experience to work with Josephine on the film. We are secretly hoping the phone calls from Hollywood will start coming through shortly."

There are a variety of lead-acid batteries entering the average workshop, Wet Cell, Calcium and AGM to name a few, each needing to be maintained in a slightly different manner. CTEK, a leading global brand in the care and maintenance of vehicle batteries, looks at the specific technological differences and maintenance requirements of each.

Wet cell, Calcium and Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) are all various versions of the lead-acid battery that have different advantages, disadvantages and of course Battery Protection and maintenance requirements.

The wet cell, or flooded battery as its also known, still dominates a large proportion of the car battery market. Despite the first wet cells typically being fragile glass containers with lead rods hanging from an open top, developments in manufacturing, and of course safety, techniques have seen the wet cell progress in to an affordable, reliable and, if recharged and maintained correctly, long lasting vehicle battery.

Calcium batteries also take up a large proportion of the battery market and have the same generic make-up of wet cell batteries except both the positive and negative plates are replaced by calcium alloy. By doing this, the fluid loss is about 80% lower than that of a normal wet cell battery and the self discharge rate is also considerably lower which, in turn, provides huge advantages to those storing the units.

The lead-calcium grid within the battery is strong, more resistant to corrosion as well as overcharging, gassing, and water usage, all of which shorten battery life in conventional lead-acid batteries. The disadvantage however, is that they are more demanding when charging if they have been over-discharged and can benefit from a controlled high voltage / low current charge as part of the recharging process.

Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) are the latest step in the evolution of lead-acid batteries. Instead of using water or a gel, an AGM uses a fibreglass separator to hold the electrolyte in place. The physical bond between the separator fibres, the lead plates and the container make AGMs spill-proof and reduces their self discharge rate to 1-3% per month, which considering a wet cell can discharge at a rate of 1% a day, is of particular use to retailers and workshops storing the batteries.

AGM batteries are a variant of Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) batteries. In VRLA batteries the hydrogen and oxygen produced in the cells largely recombine back into water. This ensures that there is minimal fluid loss from the battery, although some electrolytes still escape if the recombination cannot keep up with the production of gas. VRLA batteries are also known as ‘maintenance free’ batteries which is not exactly true as they do lose charge and therefore, do need charging.

They also typically cost twice as much as a premium wet cell but, in return, store extremely well and don’t sulfphate or degrade as easily. Additionally, from a safety aspect, they are the safest available as the chance of hydrogen leakage and corrosion is minimal but, as a result, charging has to be controlled carefully or they can be quickly ruined – although this is not a problem if a Smart Battery Charger is used as it will automatically switch off when the process is complete.

All of these batteries possess different technologies that are going to suit the differing needs of the vehicle and indeed, the workshops storing them. However, they all have one thing in common in that they need to be carefully maintained to ensure once in use, they provide the energy needed. None of them are free from self-discharge and all will therefore require a charge at one point or another and for a car, a CTEK 12V battery charger provides the perfect solution. From the point of view of a garage or workshop, there’s nothing more damaging to a reputation than fitting a new component that quickly breaks or, even worse, doesn’t work in the first place, so ensuring the batteries are stored and maintained correctly is essential.

All the top players are in the Big Apple getting ready for US Tennis Open the final Tennis Grand Slam of the season with both the Men’s and Women’s tournaments looking tight, after a long season for the players they will be looking for one last big effort on the hard courts of Flushing Meadow and the US Open. The betting markets have as always come alive for the US Open in recent days with plenty of value to be found when looking for the outright winner of the tournament. The line up in the Men’s draw is looking particularly mouth watering with Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal set to renew their rivalry, Nadal is the World no.1 and the man in form but has yet to win the US Open with the Online Betting suggesting he could have a tough task on his hands and US Mens Tennis Open Odds reflect this.

Federer has proven himself to be the King of New York in recent years having picked up the crown five times in succession between 2004 and 2008, he simply loves the hard courts and after winning the Masters Series event in Cincinnati recently he looks in top form. The former World no.1 is the clear favourite in the betting to win once again this year, which is despite the fact that he did lose out in the final last year in five sets. The winner in 2009 was Juan Martin Del Potro but he will miss the defence of his title through injury, that means the draw is looking open but few would be surprised to see Roger Federer picking up yet another Grand Slam. Rafa Nadal can never be ruled out and that is backed up by the latest US Open Odds, the Spaniard has won both the French Open and Wimbledon this year and after regaining his World No.1 ranking is full of confidence. Nadal though has yet to go past the Semi-Finals in New York meaning that the most likely challenger to Federer will be Andy Murray. The Scot went all the way to the Final in 2008 and many believe he could go one better this time around, he won the Masters event in Toronto recently after beating Nadal and Federer and loves the hard courts. Punters have been backing him for some time now to break his duck and he will not have a better chance than at Flushing Meadows this year, he seems to have the confidence on this surface to beat anyone and if he hits top form he will go very close indeed and is one of our US Tennis Open Tips.

The US Womens Tennis Open Betting for the Women’s Championship in New York has been thrown wide open with the withdrawal of hot favourite and World No.1 Serena Williams, a foot injury has put paid to Wimbledon Champion leaving plenty of value on offer for punters. The defending Champion is Kim Clijsters who won last year as a wild card in remarkable style, it was her first Grand Slam since coming out of retirement and she will be eager to defend her title. Clijsters though has not looked in the best form recently and could be described as an uneasy favourite with the bookmakers; her biggest rival could well be 2006 Champion Maria Sharapova who looks to be coming back to her very best. The Russian is still recovering from a long time injury but looks to be getting better and better week-by-week, she had a good tournament in Cincinnati recently and that coupled with her fighting spirit make her very dangerous in New York. While Serena is missing from the tournament it would be foolish for punters to ignore big sister Venus, she may not quite be as good as she once was but on her day she can match any player in the world. Venus will know that this is a great opportunity for her with Serena missing out but question marks remain about her ability at 30 to string together 7 good performances. Outside of the big names perhaps the lady to watch this year is Caroline Wozniacki, the Dane will be the No.1 seed and looks ready to go one better than her final appearance from last year. Wozniacki won in Montreal last week on the hard courts and could be ready to make the big breakthrough, she will need to prove she can beat the big names when it matters but she certainly has the talent and the bookmakers are wary of her threat. This just only serves to highlight the value on offer for punters in both the Men’s and Women’s Draws in New York, the US Open is one that all players want to win and the 2010 event is shaping up to be one of the best yet.

We're proud to say we often manage to impress the press here at Ragdale, but this time we've done it for a completely different reason, namely our managers leading by example in committing to ensure they are in peak condition to put mind and body into delivering the best possible service to our guests.

As a recognised leader in new and effective shape-up workouts, we were approached by ZEST Magazine who were keen to learn the weight loss and fitness secrets our guests have been taking advantage of for years, so our resident Fitness Expert, Dean Hodgkin designed a special kick-start routine for the magazine readers.....and then proved it's worth by putting two of our managers through the plan and then publishing their results. Senior Treatments Manager, Zoe Heightley and Treatments Manager, Madeleine Pentelow kindly subjected themselves to a fairly intense regime for 4 weeks....and lived to tell the tale. Both girls lost inches, dropped pounds and toned up their vital areas but more importantly, they now feel more confident and are eager to continue the good work they've started.

‘The No More Excuses Workout’ was devised for busy women who find giving time to a regular gym routine difficult to fit in. Indeed both Zoe and Madeleine have very demanding careers, Zoe also having a young son to look after. Look out for the September issue of ZEST.

Says Dean “Each session lasts just 30 minutes and can be done whenever you want – follow the plan to the letter and you could lose an amazing 10lb in a month…..and that’s without modifying your diet. Cut down on calories and swap carbs for more protein and you could shave off a stone. Be prepared to put in the effort. The moves or cardio sessions can be done in the park, your garden or even your lounge in front of Eastenders – it’s that simple”

It’s worth mentioning that guests at Ragdale Hall can take advantage of the expertise and massive array of classes provided by Ragdale Hall’s Fitness Team for free!

Brain training in various shapes and forms is enjoying increasing popularity these days, fuelled no doubt by regular reports in the press about the potential long-term benefits of keeping your brain active. One consequence of this upsurge in interest in matters cerebral, is that award winning spa, Ragdale Hall now lists a Mind Gym amongst its extensive facilities and activities for its guests.

“We have always tried to educate our guests into becoming aware that if we do not exercise the body, muscle and bone will deteriorate with age, so leading to potential injury and illness in later life.” Comments Dean Hodgkin, well known international fitness presenter and Fitness Expert at Ragdale Hall; “Since our aim is to nourish our guests in body and mind, the addition of the Mind Gym is a natural progression, sitting perfectly alongside our extensive fitness sessions and unrivalled range of unique treatment therapies.”

The <a href='http://www.ragdalehall.co.uk/news_detail.cfm/news_ID/8/title/title=Ragdale-Hall's-New-Mind-Gym' target='_blank'>Mind Gym at Ragdale Hall incorporates quirky furniture in vibrant colours, promising an attack on the senses from the moment you enter the area. Hand-held computers, space-age toys, a wide spectrum of physical puzzles and a library of books will test your logic, challenge your problem-solving skills and so push your brain to greater efficiency. There’s even a state-of-the-art game-table that allows you to move a ball by simply controlling your thoughts.

Dean has the final word, “We have created an environment where you can lose yourself for a while in concentrated thought, flexing your brain cells a little, but above all having fun. If you really do wish to age-proof yourself, don’t just try to look and feel younger, you can now actually think younger!”

As we get older, it’s common to find we forget things, maybe names, perhaps pin numbers or more usually where we left our keys. More seriously, we may even find it harder to concentrate at work. What we need is a little brain training. So whether you tackle the Times crossword daily or play scrabble with your nearest and dearest, you’re sure to reap the dividends of keeping your brain active to a ripe old age.

And at Ragdale Hall, it is all about our joined-up approach to health and wellbeing – unleash the power of your mind!

Body Odour is banished thanks to new Odegon iron on clothing tag

New military-grade technical fabric meets the heat of modern lifestyles; new personal care accessory is a ‘must’ for green image-conscious consumers

A new small and totally discrete underarm clothing tag which uses nano technology to capture, store and eliminate the molecules responsible for body odour (BO) has been launched as the ultimate antidote to today’s hectic lifestyles which see millions unsatisfied with the use of deodorants alone. The breakthrough invention will come as a huge relief to those who work long hours or are ‘on the go’ until late in the day, particularly at this time of year. If you don’t like the thought of always painting or spraying on chemicals that are absorbed into your armpits then Odegon Tags are ideal for you. Designed and produced by technical fabric innovators, Odegon (for “odour, gone”) Technologies, the antisocial odour resulting from human sweat is eliminated via a teabag-sized fabric patch housing a piece of activated nano porous special material. The soft, chemical-free, odourless, inert, non-allergenic and environmentally-friendly tags are ironed on easily at home and remain permanently in place for the life of the garment where they perform regardless of the number of washes or dry cleans. Once applied you don’t even know they are there as they just seem to merge into the garment.
The tags are on sale via the Odegon website (www.odegon.com)

“Odegon Tags were discovered whilst formulating new materials for special filters to protect military personnel from lethal nerve gases and agents,” explains Odegon Technologies’ Tom Rawlings. “We were right to assume that if the material met the most demanding tests ever devised against chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) suit requirements, it would be able to tackle BO. We understand that deodorant products may not be keeping up with today’s active lifestyles and that there is consumer reluctance to throw more chemicals at the problem. We anticipate consumers will apply Odegon Tags to a core set of garments within their summer and winter wardrobes these are the clothes, that people find tend to smell even after washing. Business people can equip a week of shirts or blouses for the lifetime of the clothes, for under £20.”

August bank holiday weekend will see horse trailers in their hundreds arrive in Warwickshire, along with a crowd of unpretentious, young, attractive and exceptionally fit sports men and women competing on behalf of their club in the national championships. This is Polocrosse - the up and coming horse sport, huge in Australia and without question on its way up here.

A cross between Polo and Lacrosse, Polocrosse is played outside, on horseback. Each rider uses a stick with a net to carry, throw and catch the rubber ball. The objective is to score goals by throwing the ball between your opponent's goal posts. A team consists of six players, divided into two sets of three who play alternate ‘chukkas’ of a maximum of eight minutes each. Six or eight chukkas make up a full match. The three players in each section play the positions of a No. 1 "attack", a No. 2 "centre", or a No. 3 "defence".

Around in the UK since the 80’s, there’s no ‘30 years of hurt’ as far as Polocrosse is concerned – we’re actually quite good at it. Next year the UK will host the Polocrosse 2011 World Cup – eight nations competing for World Cup glory.

According to Iain Heaton from the UK Polocrosse Association, it will be a closely fought fight for the top spot, “There are four teams leading the pack in International Polocrosse – the UK, South Africa, Australia and Zimbabwe. We stand as good a chance as any of taking the Cup although our biggest rival is probably Australia which has an exceptional World Cup team for 2011. We’re hoping the home advantage will take us to the final – and lifting the Cup!”
This will be the third Polocrosse World Cup tournament, 2003 and 2007 were held in Queensland, Australia. The teams competing are United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Zimbabwe, Zambia and the United States of America.

Additionally, an International Challenge Tournament will include invited teams from France, Holland, Germany, Canada, Norway and the United Arab Emirates, plus a Pony Club Polocrosse competition will also take place focusing on the large number of younger players taking part in the sport.

Other equestrian disciplines involved in the event include Horseball, Reining, Vaulting and Mounted Games. There will also be fringe entertainment and a tented village during the World Cup fortnight as well as involvement from Riding for The Disabled.

Ellen Wood, organiser of World Cup Polocrosse 2011, said, “This really is an opportunity to put Polocrosse on the map in the UK. We’re very excited for involvement in the sport in general but also in terms of opening it up to a much wider audience both in the horse world, and also to spectators looking for something a little bit different!.”

The Polocrosse World Cup takes place in Yorkshire 4th -18th July 2011. Tickets cost £100 and are available from www.polocrosse2011.com Sponsorship packages for brands interested in the opportunity will be unveiled this month.
Quick facts – Polocrosse

The season starts in May and finishes in September. During the season there is usually a tournament taking place every weekend somewhere in the UK.

The field is 60 yards x 160 yards, with three separate areas. The goal scoring areas, on each end, are 30 yards long. Only the No.1 of the attacking team and the No. 3 of the defending team can play in these areas. The middle area is 100 yards long. The line separating the goal scoring and centre areas is called the penalty line. Goal posts are 8 feet apart. To score, the ball must be thrown from outside an 11-yard semi-circle in front of the goal.

Players can pick up the ball from the ground, catch it in their racquet, and ride with it. They will throw it to other players until the No.1 has possession in the goal scoring area.

A player cannot carry the ball over the penalty line, but must bounce it so that they do not have possession of it while actually crossing the line. However, it can be thrown to a player over the line.

In Ashford, Kent on 5th August, Mike Buss, the UK’s highest profile Ultra Runner smashed into the record books again for the 12th time this year by running his 51st marathon in as many days at the McArthur Glen Designer Outlet Village. Today (Thurs 19th August) he is running marathon number 65, Mike will continue to run daily marathons until he reaches his target of 100 marathons in 100 consecutive days. The finale takes place at the Birmingham NEC on the 23rd September during the Leisure Industry Week Show, which attracts 80,000 visitors.

Eddie Izzard recently completed 47 marathons in 53 days with one day off a week. In contrast, Mike is not taking a single day off and each marathon is logged on a Star Trac Treadmill transported to different locations around the UK by sponsors Pickfords. Mike has already been to London, Ashford, Bath, Brighton, Swindon, RAF Fairford, RAF Lyneham and is currently at Gloucester Quays McArthur Glen Designer Outlet Village. His itinerary is:
•	25th – 31st August: Cheltenham Regent Arcade Shopping Centre.
•	1st – 5th September: Swindon McArthur Glen Designer Outlet Village
•	6th – 11th September: Southampton The Esporta Health Club
•	12th – 19th September: Aldershot (Venue TBC)
•	20th – 23rd September: Birmingham NEC – Leisure Industry Show

When asked why such a tough challenge, Mike replied ‘I’m doing this in support of ‘Help for Heroes’ to raise awareness and money to help our wounded troops coming back from Afghanistan and previously Iraq. They are brave men and women putting their life on the line to protect others. I was injured by an IRA car bomb and can no longer stand in the front line, so this is my way of being there if a soldier needs support on their return to the UK’.

Mike continues ‘I have set myself some tough challenges in the last 6 months, one of which doctors said could be life-threatening. I have to keep looking for challenges tougher than the last to grab the public’s attention and inspire them to donate. I also aim to physically and mentally push myself beyond anything I have ever done before, so I live up to my motto ‘Beyond Impossible’.’
Having broken a string of world records this year including running the furthest distance on a treadmill in 7 days covering 517.25 miles (beating the previous record by 49 miles), in October and November Mike plans four more world record endurance challenges to reach his 2010 Help for Heroes fundraising target of £100,000. EDITOR’S NOTES
Mike Buss - Endurance Athlete - Tasks Ahead

Endurance athlete Mike Buss supports Help for Heroes because he was medically discharged from the army ten years ago when an IRA bomb caused deafness in one ear. At that time, the support for injured military personnel wasn’t particularly good. He values highly the work of the Help for Heroes charity so he is on a mission to:
•	Break 20 world endurance records in just 12 months (a feat that has never been achieved before).
•	Raise over £1,000,000 by 2014.
•	Take on many of the world’s toughest challenges including the ‘Marathon Des Sables’ across the Sahara desert in 2011.
•	Finish a world record breaking 5 yr campaign by climbing Mount Everest in 2014.

Vancouver, BC

Intranet Connections (www.intranetconnections.com) is pleased to announce the intranet launch for BC Place, the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. BC Place launched their Intranet Connections Intranet 2.0 CMS Software in July with goals of improving corporate communication, increasing employee involvement, and enhancing information sharing within the organization.

After the 2010 Winter Games, BC Place was scheduled major construction to revitalize and modernize the facilities, including the largest retractable roof of its kind in the world. When the Administration team at BC Place learned that half of all full-time staff would be moving to temporary offices at the Vancouver Convention Centre and the other half would remain at BC Place, they immediately became aware that a corporate communication tool was needed to unify the two locations. The IT team spearheaded the project, identifying an intranet site as the best means to facilitate internal communication and provide a central repository for staff information.

In evaluating intranet solutions, BC Place knew they wanted to find a turnkey product that did not require any programming or custom development in order to get their site up and running.

“We ultimately selected Intranet Connections as an intranet solution because it was out-of the box and it required minimal administration overhead. Intranet Connections also came highly recommended, was proven in the market place and was developed by a Canadian company. We really liked the fact that Intranet Connections was a local organization.” says Winnie Mok, Information Services Manager at BC Place.

Since this was BC Place’s first intranet implementation, Intranet Connections’ suite of ready-to-use applications allowed the intranet development committee to focus efforts on the key success factors for a well received rollout. Priorities for the launch included: educating users about the role of an intranet, developing dynamic and relevant content and establishing site usage guidelines.

The new intranet has become a central part of BC Place’s multi-location communications and information management strategy. Construction news, press updates, updated policies and information about their upcoming road show are all posted on the intranet to keep employees at different facilities up to date and in the know.

Although the golfing season is coming to an end in the UK, there are still plenty of holes to pot on courses nearer the equator.
