We love this time of the year. The chill in the air makes tea’s warmth, comfort and invigoration more precious than ever. We also added to our online store our line of labeled tins that we sell in-store in Seattle and at retailers like WholeFoods in the Seattle area. People love these as stocking stuffers. Holiday Shipping deadlines are Dec 16th for standard delivery. We are shipping all over the country an abroad this Holiday. For standard mail (3-5 day standard), DEC 16th 3PM PST is the cutoff day for guaranteed delivery by December 24th. Our Seattle location also features all kinds of gifting goods. We just rolled out our tea samplers. These are snazzy sets of seven or thirteen test-tubes packed with organic tea. You can order teas in advance by the way - a lot of folks beat the lines and order online.  Just in time for summer, we are excited for new teas and tastes! We’ve added new blended teas, some tailored to a season of warmer weather. We also have added wonderful pure leaf teas. A few teas were cut to make room for seasonal tastes, some may return in fall as cold weather tastes return. The new teas are being served hot and iced and are sold by the ounce. You can come in and see, smell and learn about the new teas. As the temperature warms up in Seattle, we will be rolling out plenty of icy chilly willy summery tastes with fresh made ice tea. We will be featuring ice tea and helping people with tips and tea for home brewing. We are doing drink specials that showcase the power of tea. We are already serving our awesome Tea Infused Lemonades! Infused with a potent mix of caffeine free restorative high-vitaminC hibiscus or powerfully energizing matcha green tea. More blends and 2011 harvests coming soon too! Things are looking good from region to region and we are looking forward to this year’s teas. As always, every new tea, ingredient and botanical, down to the very last leaf and flower are organically grown. Thanks so much for doing organic! We are reminded each season around this time about the importance of organic farming. We love our organic teas, suppliers, farms and farmers and we work hard to source and blend the best of the best of organic teas for you. We will continue with some adjustments here and there and will be adding additional teas throughout the Summer months!

Spring is here, we’re busy behind the scenes developing new tastes and sourcing new harvest teas.

We have been blending new tea ideas for Summer since there was snow on the ground here in Seattle. We have been talking with suppliers about what is looking good in this season’s upcoming harvests. We have been planning for small changes to the menu. We’ve been concocting drink recipes for when the weather breaks.

We are developing and sourcing a few new teas in practically every category. We are editing some teas that are not big sellers or are too Wintery to add some new fresh new tastes as the weather changes. Don’t worry, there won’t be too many changes, we know how you love your tea.

Later in the season (Summer) we will be bringing in newly harvested teas from the 2011 crops. These are single origin, pure leaf, unblended teas. We will have a couple new China greens coming, India Blacks, oolong and more to round out our collection of pure leaf organic teas.

We are probably going to be rolling out the new tea blends slowly a few at a time over the next couple months. We’ll work to keep you posted. 

Behind the bar at RemedyTeas, we’re crafting a number of mixed tea drinks that will be served this Summer to keep us cool and rejuvenated through the season. We will be bringing on new chilled drinks along with old favorites for whenever the weather starts looking good. Cmon sunshine!

For many years we have had the pleasure of sourcing and drinking some of the finest teas in the world grown in Japan. As you know, at RemedyTeas we could not be bigger lovers of high quality organically Japan grown teas. But what you may not know is what happens behind the scenes at RemedyTeas. It’s the people.

We source our Japan green teas from an esteemed Japanese company with over 120 years experience growing and providing premium teas. We share a wonderful relationship with these people. They work so hard to produce spectacular teas according to time honored tradition. The people we work with are sweet, nice and extraordinarily helpful to us in every way. They are some of the kindest and most professional people we have worked with in the industry.

What is not lost on us is what it is that makes incredible Japanese green tea; it is the incredible Japanese people. These are folks just like you and me. Good people. Kind people. Talented people. Men, women, families. Our deepest sympathies go out to these good people. They are resilient and have been through difficult trials before, and will do so again.

We have remained in close contact with our Japanese tea suppliers to express condolences and offer support. In addition, we have been spending time understanding the implications the events could have on product supply and safety.  Here’s the scoop; In regards of product safety, the teas we are drinking and will be drinking through Summer WILL NOT be affected at whatsoever. These are teas that have been harvested, processed and packaged in nitrogen flushed high density bags prior to the event and they are on the way to us here in the U.S. Our stone ground organic ceremonial grade matcha uses teas that have already been harvested from the fields and packed. It is ground to order in Nishio, Japan over 300 miles away from the Fukishima event in one of the most advanced facilities of it’s kind. We have reserved full stocks to supply us into the next season’s harvests. We are told that all future harvests will be closely monitored by our supplier who’s standards are of the highest in the industry and by Japan’s regulatory agencies. The FDA is now taking a greater role in screening when deemed necessary. The situation is still unfolding so time will tell and we will keep you informed and up-to-date.

We’ll remain in close contact with our suppliers as we wish their friends, family and communities our best wishes and support through this difficult time. We will continue to monitor developments with our suppliers and growers and communicate that to you. If you are wondering about how you can help the people of Japan in their time of crisis, please look to major media outlets who can point the way to reliable organizations. We have donated via the Red Cross but many organizations and funds have mobilized to provide relief to those affected by the disaster. The Red Cross has already launched efforts in Japan.

Thank all of you amazing people that have been picking up gifts for themselves, friends and loved ones through our online store. For this busy time of year, we are posting some info and dates to keep in mind. To ensure your tasty teas get to you by the holiday, make sure to order early, choose express shipping or order online for an in-store pickup.

TIPS:

•  order by december 17 to receive standard shipping by the 24th
• use express shipping if later than the 17th, unless seattle area
• order online and pickup in-store for fast and easy shopping

• Standard shipping for any packages under $65 is approximately $7.00 and will arrive within 5-7 working days.

• Any packages over $65 receive standard shipping for free and will arrive within 5-7 working days.

• All packages can choose express shipping if you are tight on time ranging from overnight, 2day or 3day shipping.

• To ensure your standard packages are received by December 24th, please place orders by December 17th.

• If you are in the Seattle area, packages usually are received within 2 days but we cannot guarantee it.

• Any order placed by 1pm PST will be fresh packaged and mailed out that day. Orders after 1pm PST will be mailed the following day (but we will certainly try to get it in that day’s mail if possible.)

• Orders placed online can be picked up at RemedyTeas in Seattle. Happy springtime everyone. Here in Seattle it has been a pretty darn beautiful start to the season with buds blooming, leaves appearing on trees and the sun peeking out here n’ there with a nice chill in the air - all making for a perfect time for delicious tea.

• This is top grade organic green tea from Japan that has been steamed 2 to 3 times longer than regular sencha for a deep rich slightly sweet taste and aroma. This special tea is farmed fresh and lovingly handharvested in Uji Kyoto Japan then handcrafted in small batches. Organic Fukamushi of this grade is a rare treat that’s sourced by RemedyTeas to celebrate the arrival of Spring.
• Great care went into growing, picking and crafting this tea. If you buy some loose leaf, treat it gently, brew it with love and it will taste divine. Use medium temp water 196˙ with  3g teaspoon of tea per 6oz for only 30 seconds. Just a quick steep and its delicious. It’s best brewed in smaller quantities 6oz at at time. RemedyTeas carries the most delicious green teas. But when you are talking about “pure” green tea, our Japan steamed green teas are particularly incredible. What generally makes Japanese green teas so great is that they are produced by picking tender leaves and gently steaming them which creates a deep, fresh greenness that is unique, nutritious and delicious.  Most folks who have drank green tea tasted a Chinese green tea. While China is the “mother of teas” and produces some wonderful green teas, the steamed teas from Japan differentiate in such an incredible way.  Because of wok drying Chinese green teas tend to be brisk, slightly bitter, slightly smokey or nutty while Japanese steamed greens are vegetative, spinachy, sweet, fresh-cut-grass kind of green. If you have never had a nicely prepared steamed green tea, you MUST!  Even better, Japanese green teas for the most part have greater levels of green tea goodness (higher levels of polyphenols, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals) because of the quick delicate steaming process. Taste plus nutrition equals double deliciousness.

Here’s some favorites to look for in Japanese greens:
• 37. Precious Dew  -  Pure organic “Gyokuro” from Japan. The best leaves from the finest plants are used to produce this special tea that brews a jade green color with a very sweet, creamy, taste. This premium tea undergoes a shade grown process that enhances the deep green color, flavor and anti-oxidant properties of each delicious cup.

• 42. Roasted Green  -  Pure organic “Hojicha” from Japan. One of the exceptions for a Japanese green this is not green and steamed, but roasted. Very low caffeine and never bitter, you wont believe you are drinking a green tea. Charcoal roasted to perfection, the browned leaves produce an amber brew with rich toasty, caramel-like flavor.

With the sun coming out here and there people have been craving the taste of iced tea. While it’s a bit early, we have had a lot of people asking for it so we thought we’d help. Iced tea is available at RemedyTeas for you to get a fix what you are craving and for easy brewing at your home, here’s three easy ways to perfect iced tea.

• 1) Brew It Chill It -  As simple as could be brew your tea as normal, let cool and pop in the fridge. Make a pot the night before and you’ll be drinking great iced tea all day long.  Your iced tea will keep for a couple days then slightly loses flavor after day 3 usually. Fresh is best!
• 2) Coldbrew  -  Brewing with cold water is different but can be effective. Cold brewing can be done in small or large batches. Brew tea in the fridge overnight hours and you’ve got great iced tea brewed with no heat. Cold brewing requires simply a couple containers to brew tea and store tea in and a way to strain leaves away. Cold brewing has a slightly lighter flavor, but will have released no astringency (no bitterness) and the tea will always be clear and beautiful.
• 3) Handshaken  - This method is a “single cup” method not for use in high volume/capacity but for for the cup-by-cup basis. Make tea by the glass. This method is essentially making a concentrate, then quickly diluting it over ice. Use double the amount of leaves that you may normally use per cup, brew with normal temperature and steep times. Pour tea into an ice filled cocktail shaker or glass. Shake tea and dispense into a cup over ice making instant iced tea. Instant Yum.
