Remote login is one of the most popular applications of desktop sharing. As we talked about it earlier, as computers and the internet have become an indispensable tool for doing business, more and more workers are logging-in from different locations to communicate with each others. They are not confined to colleagues in the same location anymore. The following shows an excellent example of how Remote Login actually helps in our day to day work.

Let’s say you’re preparing a huge PowerPoint presentation for a big meeting on Friday. All of the PowerPoint files and PDFs and images that you want to use in your presentation are saved on the hard drive of your work computer. Thursday rolls around and you wake up with a nasty stomach virus. You don’t feel well enough to go to the office, but you need to finish that presentation. Here’s where remote login can help.

Not long ago, the only way to remotely access work files from home is through virtual private networks (VPN). Remote login was still not widely used at that time. But VPN access isn’t the same as accessing the hard drive of your work computer. The limitation of VPN is that it only enables you to access to the local area network (LAN) at your office. In other words, you’re only able to access your PowerPoint presentation files if you’ve saved them on the network at your office via VPN even though the file is in a different computer. As long as the computer is connected to your office LAN, accessing to the PowerPoint presentation files is doable.

Remote login, however, uses simple desktop sharing software to give you a “remote control” for accessing your computer — and all of its software and hard drive files — from any Internet-connected device anywhere in the world!

Remote login works exactly the same way as desktop sharing. There are two separate parties in remote login: the host computer and the remote user. With remote log-in, your home or work computer is the host and you (in this case) are the remote user.

Remote login requires three basic components:

1.	Software download
2.	Internet connection
3.	Secure desktop sharing network

For remote login to work, both the host computer and all remote users have to download and install the same desktop sharing software. Besides, remote login will only work if the host computer is powered on, connected to the Internet and running the desktop sharing software.

Each time you open and run the desktop sharing software on the host computer, the software starts a new session. Each session has a particular ID and/or password that are required to remotely log in to the host computer. Once the session has been established, most desktop sharing software quietly runs in the background of the host computer until a remote login request is made.

To log in to the host computer from home (or while traveling), you’ll need to run your version of the same desktop sharing software and enter in the correct session ID or password. Or some services allow you to log in through a Web site. Once you’re logged in, both computers will communicate with each other over a secure desktop sharing network. Access to this network can be free or subscription-based, depending on the service. While connected, you’ll have access to keyboard controls, mouse controls, all software and all files on the host machine.

For security purposes, all packets of information that are sent over the network are typically encrypted on each end with secure shell (SSH) or 128-bit advanced encryption standard (AES) encoding. For added security, no session IDs or passwords are stored on desktop sharing servers; they’re automatically generated by the host machine.

One of the most powerful and secure remote login software is RADMIN. Control your Home or Office PC from Anywhere with RADMIN. Try it Free!.

Computers are indispensable in our lives. We are so dependant on computer that I have never seen an office desk in a government or a private institution without a computer. Have you? It would certainly look kind of weird if you ever saw one without a computer, right?

With the increasing usage of computers to collaborate with coworkers and communicate with clients, the computers and the Internet have become crucial tools for doing business. Even though computers and internet are crucial in this information technology era, the way of communication is not just limited to colleagues in the same location anymore. More workers are punching in from the road or from home.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistic, in 2004 alone, 20.7 million Americans did some or all of their work from home, and the popularity of telecommuting is leading some to predict that the home will become the “office of the future”

This merging trend has enabled a relatively new technology called desktop sharing to be so powerful and important in the coming future. Desktop sharing uses simple software to share files, presentations and applications over the Internet — in real time — with colleagues and clients around the world. Desktop sharing is a central component of Web seminars and Web conferences, enhancing our ability to interact and collaborate over long distances.

There are many applications which desktop sharing is capable of doing. One of which is Remote Login. With remote login, workers are able to access their work computers as well as home computers from any Internet-enabled device such as public computers, laptops and even PDAs. Remote login has become sufficiently sophisticated now that users are capable of interacting with their work or home computers in real-time thru the use of desktop sharing software as if he or she is sitting right in front of the pc even though the person is in a different location.

Desktop sharing software works by sending packets of information from a host computer to a remote computer describing what’s on the host computer’s screen at any given time. The encrypted data travels over the Internet. Some data arrives as image files (JPEGs and GIFs), while others arrive as individual pixels assigned to a particular X and Y coordinate. Desktop sharing software is smart enough to only send information updates on the sections of the screen that have changed and to compress the data significantly, minimizing the amount of necessary bandwidth.

One of the most powerful remote login software is RADMIN. Control your Home or Office PC from Anywhere with RADMIN. Try it Free!. RADMIN is a fast and secure Remote Login Software that enables you to work on a remote computer in real time as if you were using its own keyboard and mouse.

With Radmin You Can

•	Remotely Operate your Home or Office computer
•	Provide Helpdesk functions for Remote Users
•	Easily Manage your Home or Office Network
•	Work from Home

On a more detail example, with RADMIN, you view the remote computer’s screen on your own monitor either in a window or full screen. All your mouse movements and keyboard signals are transferred directly to the remote computer. You work on the remote computer as if it were right there in front of you. You can remotely access the same computer from multiple places and use advanced file transferring, text and voice chats, remote shutdown, Telnet and other useful features.

The above features are only on the tip of the iceberg for RADMIN. For a detail and comprehensive features, please go to the following link.
