Disable Galaxy S2 Camera Sound

One of the most frustrating thing I found with Samsung Galaxy S2 phone is that, it doesn’t have an option to turn off the camera sound while taking snaps. The shutter sounds from the camera in galaxy S2 can be embarrassing at times while trying to take photos in quiet environments.

How to Disable Camera Sound in Samsung Galaxy S2

For disabling the camera sound in Galaxy S2, follow any of the following methods given below.

First Method: (local.prop method)

In this method, you have to create an empty file called local.prop and add a line ro.camera.sound.forced = 0 into it.

To do this, open notepad from your computer and paste below code into it.

ro.camera.sound.forced = 0

Now save the file as local.prop and make sure you’re not saving it as local.prop.txt.

Now transfer this file to your Samsung galaxy s2 to the location <phone>/data/. So the final location of the file will be "/data/local.prop"

Reboot your phone, and all the sounds from the camera will be completely silent if you’re putting SGS2 to silent mode.

To restore the sound, just delete the file or change the code to

ro.camera.sound.forced = 1

And save the file in the same location.

Second method (via ADB)

For this method, copy the local.prop file [check the previous method to know how to make this file] and put it in the ADB folder. Enter command ADB push local.prop /data/local.prop

After this reboot your phone and the camera application will be having the same properties of your system settings. If you put galaxy s2 in silent mode, camera will also be in silent mode.

To restore camera sound, just remove the local.prop file from the phone and restart.

Windows 8 has been out for download for developer preview. This version of Windows 8 is currently released as a beta version by Microsoft. Check the rest of the post to know how to download Windows 8 full version.

If you have downloaded Windows 8 from any p2p sites or illegal torrent sites, be careful as these may be buggy and might contain malwares or viruses. So it’s always advisable to download the OS directly from Microsoft.

Connect Galaxy S2 to TV via DLNA

With Galaxy S2, you could easily stream your music, videos and photos on your phone to any DLNA enabled devices like TV over WLAN. The AllShare service from Samsung allows you to stream all the full HD videos, music and pics across any devices that support AllShare services, such as PC, TV, mobile phone, and digital camera.

In this post, I’ll guide you how to share videos, music and pics from Samsung Galaxy S2 to TV though wifi network.

Since my LCD TV [Panasonic] doesn’t support DLNA, I used Sony Blu-ray player [Sony BD-370] to stream the data to TV from Galaxy phone. Follow the below steps to stream data from phone to TV via DLNA enabled bluray player.

Connect the Blu ray player to the same WLAN network to which your SGS2 is connected. That means if you’re using a wireless router, connect your galaxy s2 to it’s wifi network and attach the LAN cable from router to your DLNA compatible player like TV/Bluray.

Open the application Allshare in your SGS2 and you’ll see a connected symbol.

Now make sure the internet connection settings are ok in your TV. If it’s ok, you’ll see the I.P address assigned as shown in the image below.

Now start the AllShare application on your phone and check the connection server settings in TV.

Your Samsung Galaxy S2 will be shown under the server name along with the Mac address as shown in figure below.

Now you’ll be able to browse through the videos and photos on your phone from your TV. For accessing the videos from mobile on TV through DLNA, go to the videos tab and click on the mobile device which appears, in my case it was GT-I9100 which was indeed my device name.

Similarly, for browsing the photos on Galaxy S2 via wifi from TV, go to the photo tab and select the mobile device which appears.

Connecting Galaxy S2 to TV via DLNA is very easy and doesn’t require much effort. So try it and if you encounter any problem post them in the comment section below.

P.S: Other connectivity option for SGS2 is through MHL cable from Samsung, which can be connected to the HDMI input of the TV.

IRCTC Tatkal Ticket Booking Trick – Situation 2

In my previous post about IRCTC tatkal booking, I showed a trick to book confirmed tatkal ticket. That trick is limited to book tickets on trains running daily. If you want to book a tatkal ticket on a train running only one or two days a week then you will have to do it differently.

First, if you haven’t read my previous post, read it now otherwise you will not understand this post. So our basic strategy is like this. In first part we start the booking process for the tatkal ticket whose fair is exactly same as of the ticket we want.

Now since we are booking ticket on the train running once or twice a week, we can’t start tatkal booking process for the same train on previous day. In short, we can’t start part 1 process from our previous post. Sound Complex? It’s not. Let me take an example.

Let’s assume that I want to book ticket between AHMEDABAD JN (ADI) and NAGPUR (NGP) for 14^th July, 2011. It’s Thursday. I want ticket on PRERANA EXPRESS (11453) which runs only on Thursday. I’ll have to start booking process on 12^th July before 8:00AM.

Since the train doesn’t run on 12^th July or 13^th July, I can’t start part 1 process from our previous post. Without performing part 1 process, I can’t get “Make Payment” button. So what to do now? Simple. Search for two stations and train for which fare is same as of ticket on PRERANA EXPRESS between ADI to NGP. Also make sure that the new train runs on 12^th July or 13^th July because those are two days on which you can start tatkal booking process.

Find New Stations & Train

Now the question comes, how to find that type of train and stations? Use Google. There is a web site indiarailinfo.com which keeps track of all trains and fare between all stations. So we will have to put just one query and we will come up with our train and stations.

Let’s continue our example. Fare between ADI to NGP on PRERANA EXPRESS for General quota for 3A is Rs. 891. So to find new stations and train, you will have to just put following query in Google.

Quick search relieves that train DELHI SR EXPRESS /19263 has same fare (Rs. 891) between Jamnagar(JAM) and Jaipur Junction(JP) and runs on Tuesday(12^th July). Sometimes you might have to search deeper to find exact stations and train. Just keep looking. You will surely find new stations and train.

So in part 1, we will start the process for booking tatkal ticket on 12^th July between JAM and JP on DELHI SR EXPRESS for 3A class. Once we reach to the payment gateway page, we click on “Plan My Travel” link and start the part 2 process.

Part 2 process is same as I have shown in previous post.

So now you know how to book confirmed tatkal ticket. There is still one more technique which increases the chances of getting confirmed tatkal ticket. Let’s review this technique too.

Multiple Firefox Profiles

Do you know that you can start multiple firefox profiles at the same time? You can initiate IRCTC booking process at the same time in all profiles. Sometimes it happens that IRCTC server becomes too slow and it takes too long to get response. You either get “Service Unavailable” error or no response at all.

If you have started booking process in three different profiles then you will increase the change of getting response. In one profile, you might get service unavailable error but you won’t get the same error in all profiles at the same time. So how to run multiple firefox profiles at the same time?

Open firefox’s properties from the firefox shortcut on desktop. Add -P -no-remote to the target location as shown in following image.

Click on OK and open the firefox. That will open firefox profile manager.

You will have only “default” profile. Here you can create as many profiles as you like. I have 4 different profiles created just for IRCTC booking. You can run all profiles at the same time. If you are planning to use multiple profiles then you will have to install extensions separately on each profile.

Payment Gateway Selection

Payment gateway selection is also important in speeding up the booking process. Netbanking payment gateways are faster than giving credit card/debit card details.

In my experience, I have seen that HDFC netbanking gateways is the fastest one. You can even increase the payment gateway login speed by saving the username and password. You just have to click on login button and done.

Small-small things can increase your booking speed. I have given all tricks I was using to book confirmed tatkal ticket. Use these techniques and get ticket. Have safe & happy journey.

Latest IRCTC Tatkal Trick to Book Confirmed Ticket

Since the time IRCTC has blocked ‘Quick Book’ link, getting confirmed tatkal ticket has become even harder. It’s has become almost impossible to get confirmed tatkal ticket ‘the traditional way’. This has forced me to find another trick to get confirmed tatkal ticket.

We are going to see the whole procedure in two steps. It is a lengthy process. So stay focused.

Requirement

To use this technique, you need to have Firefox browser. Install firefox browser if you don’t have it. You also need to install Firebug extension. Once you have firefox browser with firebug extension, you are ready to use this technique.

Start The Booking

I frequently need to book tickets between NAGPUR (NGP) and AHMEDABAD JN (ADI). So I am going to show you the process of booking tatkal ticket between these two stations.

The whole process is divided in two parts and this process works only with trains running daily.

Let’s start the process.

Part 1:

Assume that you are booking ticket on 7^th of July, before 8:00 AM and you want to book the ticket for 9^th July from ADI to NGP. We want to book ticket in HOWRAH EXPRESS (12833) for 3A class. I am taking HOWRAH EXPRESS as an example because it runs daily.

Now initiate the tatkal booking process for 8^th of July. But wait, we need ticket for 9^th of July. Why am I booking for 8^th of July? Well, this process needs you to do so. I will explain the full details later in part 2. As for now, just do as I say. We are not going to actually book the ticket on 8^th of July. We will just initiate the booking procedure and stop it when we reach up to the payment gateway page as shown in below.

Now click on the ‘Plan my Travel’ link from the navigation bar. Here starts our part-2 where we actually book ticket for 9^th of July.

Part 2:

Since you already started the booking procedure, you now have all form details pre-filled. Select the journey date 9^th of July and select quota as General.

Again the question comes in mind – Why select quota as General? Well, if you select quota as Tatkal for 9^th of July, and assuming that you are booking on 7^th of July, before 8:00AM, you won’t be able to pass the first page. You will get the following error.

So to avoid the above error, we select the quota as General. We will change the quota in the middle of booking process using the firebug extension.

Now start the booking process. Click on “Find Train.” Select the train and class. You will have all the forms already pre-filled by IRCTC web site. When you reach on the Passenger Details page, press F12 key. F12 key opens firebug module in your browser as shown in below image.

In the firebug console, search (top-right corner) for “quota” as shown in following image.

In the console, you need to change the value=”GN” to value=”CK”.

Now close the firebug, enter the captcha and click on Go button.

On the Next screen, check the quota detail. It should show Tatkal as quota. You will get the next screen with error. Just ignore the error and click on “Make Payment” button.

If you haven’t performed the part 1, then you won’t get Make Payment button option. Without that option, you can’t go ahead. You will be stuck on that page and you will have to do the whole procedure again. So now you know how important is part 1 process.

Now you have reached to the payment gateway page. So as soon as it’s 8:00AM in your computer clock, select your prefer payment gateway. Give the payment details and your ticket booking process is complete.

So using the above technique you bypass first 3 steps of booking process. You just have to perform only one step in order to complete the ticket booking. This technique is even quicker than “Quick Book” link.

Important Notes

Make sure that your computer clock shows exact same time of IRCTC server.
Complete all steps before 8:00AM. You have to be on payment gateway selection page when it’s 8:00AM.
If you complete all steps before 7:56AM then you need to keep session active. Otherwise when you select payment gateway, you will get session expire error.
To keep the session active, visit the following link in another browser of your system.
https://www.irctc.co.in/cgi-bin/bv60.dll/irctc/services/servicesNTerms.do?LinkValue=5&voucher=29&BV_SessionID=SESSIONID&BV_EngineID=BV_EngineID
You need to change SESSIONID(RED) and BV_EngineID (RED) with your current session ID and BV Engine ID. You can find those values in URL. Visiting the above URL every 3 minutes keeps your session active.
This technique works only with trains running daily. If you need to book ticket on train running only 1 or 2 days of week, then you will have to perform few more steps. I will address that situation in my next post.

How to Root Samsung Galaxy S2 Easily

Samsung Galaxy S2, the latest flagship device from Samsung and successor of hugely popular Galaxy S have launched in Indian market starting from June. After using this device for nearly two weeks, I must say it’s the best phone I’ve ever owned. With a dual core 1.2GHZ ARMv7 processor bundled with 1GB RAM & 16GB internal storage, I’ve never experienced any lag even while playing those HD Gameloft games.

Developers at XDA have started to roll out many awesome custom Roms and mods for Samsung Galaxy S2. But for playing around with these ROMS and apps, you’ll need to root your Galaxy S2. By rooting your device, you’ll be able to remove the existing restrictions and access core parts of your phone operating system.

In this post, I’ll guide you on how to root your Samsung Galaxy S2 running Android 2.3.x with ease.

Disclaimer: I shall not be responsible if you brick your device. Do it in your own risk.

How to Root Samsung Galaxy S2

First of all, make sure you’re having all these tools mentioned below at the time rooting.

Odin Downloader
XWKDD tar file [don’t extract, leave as it is]
SuperOneClick
USB Data Cable
Samsung’s KIES 2.0 or get it from download page

Install Samsung Kies 2.0,if not installed, as you will need the correct USB driver for software’s to communicate. Turn on USB debugging mode in galaxy s2 from Setting>Applications>Development>USB Debugging. [Important]

1. Boot device into download mode. For getting into download mode on galaxy s2, first turn off the phone and power it on again by pressing Volumedown button, Home button and Power simultaneously. You’ll see a downloading icon once you go into this mode.

2. Start Odin downloader

3. Connect phone to computer via USB.

4. Odin software will notify you when it detects phone and gets connected.

5. In the software, just select “Auto Reboot” and “Reset Time” checkboxes and leave every other options as default.

6. Press PDA icon and select the XWDD tar file you just downloaded [XWKDD_insecure.tar]

7. Press Start and ODIN will flash the kernel and after that, Galaxy S2 will reboot.

8. Don’t remove the phone from USB and let it reboot.

9. After rebooting, start SuperOneClick and press ROOT.

9. Once again reboot the device.

That’s it, Your Samsung Galaxy S2 is now Rooted!!

Now enjoy all the custom roms and overclocking apps for galaxy without any restrictions.

P.S: This method currently works for all Samsung Galaxy S2 versions running android 2.3.3 or android 2.3.4 and above.

Update [24/06/11]:

Another alternate to the above mentioned method is by using a rooting software called S2 Root. With this software you can both root and unroot your SGS2. This software is specially coded for rooting Samsung Galaxy S2 phone.

As with the previous method, you’ll have to flash an insecure kernel first before rooting, for that, just follow all the steps till 8. Run S2 Root software, and click on “Root Device”. Your phone will reboot once rooting has been done.

Note: While booting, your phone will be showing a yellow triangle with exclamation mark, which indicates you’re running an insecure kernel with temporary root previleges. [optional] If you want to remove this icon, just flash the original kernel back to your device.

Backup Windows 7 MAK, OEM Keys for Offline Activation

Microsoft have put a limit to the number of times Windows 7 could be activated online even if you’re having a original Windows 7 license key. This limit might cause trouble for users who frequently format their hard drives and does fresh Windows installation. Once the activation limit is over, they’ll have to rely on tedious and time consuming phone activation method.

In order to avoid this, you can backup the entire Windows 7 activation [OEM, MAK, Retail] Tokens, Serial, product key and certificate using a software, 7Tokens Manager, build by a developer [Josh Cell] at MDF forums.

After taking the Windows 7 licensing backup, you can restore the same to a fresh installation of Win 7 and the product will be activated without internet connection.

Tip: You can use ProduKey to locate your original Windows 7 product key.

Facebook Fake Osama Death Video Spreads Virus Spam

Osama Bin Laden’s fake death video has been spreading across Facebook since yesterday, just hours after the death of the terrorist leader. The spam video link spreads as message updates in Facebook users’ wall and the unknown user gets tricked into playing the video which in turn spreads the fake spam links.

The Osama virus spreading spam links across Facebook claims to play the banned video of Osama Bin Laden’s death. Some of the examples of Osama virus videos which are circulating in my profile are shown below. [some of the images are NSFW, so pixelated them]

“Osama is dead, watch this exclusive CNN video which was censored by Obama Administration due to level of violence, a must watch. Leaked by Wikileaks.”

“Navy Seals raid Bin Ladens hideout and execute him!”

When you click on the video link, it will take you to a Facebook fan page, which demands you to click “Like” button for viewing the video. After that, it might give you a external link or ask you to copy paste some scripts in your browser. Once you do this, the spam post not only appears in your own profile but circulates to your friend’s wall as well.

But some spammers take this to another level by offering users to complete a survey before viewing the osama death video. These scammers earn money every time a survey is completed and that’s the reason they want you to share this fake links with others.

How to prevent Osama Virus from Posting in your Profile

Unlike the page which tricked you into showing fake video and report them immediately to Facebook.
Don’t allow any applications which claims to show this rare fake video of Osama, if you’ve already allowed, then remove the application immediately from here.
Don’t copy and paste any scripts in your Facebook profile.
Don’t blindly trust or click any spammy links which claims to get the rare video as the video doesn’t exist as of now.
If you’re using Chrome, make sure you don’t paste any scripts in your browser bar, as the browser tries to preload anything you type in the ‘awesome’ bar.
Keep your Antivirus up to date, or if you don’t have one, download any of the antivirus posted here [ Kaspersky 2011 , Norton 2011, or Mcafee Antivirus]

Select the website profile you need to find the peak hours.

On the left side, click the visitors menu as shown above.

Now, select “Visitors trending” under Visitors menu.

Under this menu select “Visits”. Now notice the trend graph shown near to it and to the top-right of the graph, you will see a small timer icon which on hover mentions ’hour’. Click the icon same as show below.

Now you can see the peak hours of your websites and also the off-peak hours for the selected date range.

In these off peak hours you can do some live design experiments on your websites without causing much problem to visitors.

Google Cloud print makes it possible to print from anywhere to your local printers installed in your home or office. In this article, I’ll show you how to print from Gmail on android phone to local printer.

How to print from Android Gmail to local printer.

For using Google Cloud print, you’ll need to have a developer or latest beta version of Google Chrome. With cloud printing you don’t anymore need to access remote pc using screen sharing for printing files.

In Google Chrome, go to Settings > Options. In the new settings tab, click “Under the Hood” menu.

At the bottom, you’ll see an option “Google Cloud Print”. Click “Sign in to Google Cloud Print” button and login with your Google account credentials.

You’ll get a confirmation message after logging into your Google account and the option in Chrome will change into “Disable Google Cloud Print” and “Manage Print Settings”.

In Manage Print Settings page, you’ll see all the active print jobs and all the printers associated with your account.

You can do a test print from this page and check whether the print job is getting done.

Printing From Android Phone using Google Cloud Print

From any Android phone, log into your gmail account from mobile browser. After logging into your gmail account, you could see a drop down button [small arrow] on the top right side. Click the button and select “Print”.

You’ll be able to see all the printers which are associated with your account. Select printer, and in options set the number of copies you need. Click “Print” and your document will be printed if the selected printer is online, otherwise it will be queued and completed once the printer comes online.

Share Internet Connection from PC to Android Phone using Wifi

Using Wi-Fi Ad-hoc networking is the best way to share internet connection between PC and your android phone. But for that, you’ll need to root your android device and change the wifi configuration file for accessing the adhoc networks. This method varies based on the wifi chipset used in your phone.

Another alternate method which can be used by almost all the android devices is by creating virtual access point’s using virtual router software. This is done using Windows 7’s wireless hosted network technology. There are currently two software's which does this job perfectly, Virtual Router and Connectify.

Tip: Use Android phone as Wi-Fi Router

Download Virtual Router or Connectify from the links given at the bottom of this article.

If you’re using Virtual Router, be sure to check the supported wifi devices as these softwares are hardware specific.

Settings for Virtual Router [PC]

Open Virtual Router software, and fill in the settings.

Enter your preferred Network Name[SSID], password and choose the internet connection you wish to share.

Click the start button to start sharing.

In the connection status, note down the IPv4 address [for eg. 192.168.5.1] as we need it to configure the android device settings later.

Also note the DNS server being used by your internet connection. For finding DNS information, just enter ipconfig/all into the command prompt.

Mobile Wifi Settings [ANDROID]

On your android device, go to Settings> Wireless and Networks> Wifi Settings

Click the advance settings.

Select the checkbox showing “Use static IP”

Enter the IP address [for eg. 192.168.5.2]

Enter the previously noted IP address [for eg. 192.168.5.1] into Gateway field.

Enter 255.255.255.0 in Netmask field

Enter the previously noted DNS server address into DNS1 and DNS2 fields.

Now disable and enable wifi and then connect to wifi using password.

After connecting you can enjoy internet shared from PC on your android device using wifi.

Note: Wi-Fi Connections made with these software's are encrypted with WPA2 and is not possible to turn it off, so as to ensure best security for the wireless hosting network feature built into window7.

How to save updates from Kaspersky 2011 to local folder

For saving the internet updates from Kaspersky to separate local folder, copy the below mentioned folder from a computer which is configured to get the updates from Kaspersky Lab’s severs. [you’ll have to change folder options to view all hidden files]

For Windows XP : \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Kaspersky Lab\AVP9\Update distribution

For Windows Vista: \ProgramData\Kaspersky Lab\AVP9\Update distribution

Or you can enable the Kaspersky software to store the updates to a specific folder.

How to update Kaspersky 2011 Offline from a local folder

Open Kaspersky 2011 [KIS/KAV]

Click the Update tab shown on left side on the application.

Now select "Settings" on top right.

Change the update source to the folder which you copied all the databases earlier.

Uncheck the Kaspersky Lab's servers from update settings and Click OK button.

Click Ok button in Settings window.

Run the update, and now Kaspersky will install the updates from the local folder which you just configured.

This trick is very useful if your home PC with Kaspersky antivirus is not connected to internet and antivirus databases are out of date or if you want to update unactivated kaspersky software which can’t be updated online.
