Solution to Tata Photon Plus Vista/Win7 Driver Installation Problems

If you’re a subscriber of Tata photon plus USB wireless broadband connection, and have problem installing the driver software in Windows Vista/ Win 7 then checkout the rest of this post for getting solutions to those problems.

Tata Photon Plus Problems and Solutions

Even after Installation of Driver software Huawei Acess Manager from the inbuilt disk drive, tata photon modem is not detected and no range is shown in the software.

Solution:

Uninstall the Huawei Access Manager.

Go to Device Manager [Control Panel]

Click View> Devices by type > Universal Serial Bus controllers

Uninstall the USB composite device

Remove photon device and Restart the system [important]

Insert device and install the driver software again

Now the Huawei Mobile connect modem will be detected and range will be shown in the UI.

Tata photon+ shows Error message while connecting as "Error 678 : Remote computer did not respond"

Go to My Computer>Properties.
Go to Hardware >Device manager
Select the Tata Photon Plus modem

Right click & select properties
Select Advanced tab option
Write AT+CRM=1 in the text box.

Click on ok
Restart the Computer.

Tata photon plus shows No HSIA Range Signal

Checkout the Streetview images of 2010 FIFA Worldcup stadiums at South Africa from Google. The streetview imagery shows seven of South Africa’s new football stadiums and each of them could be explored from pitch level in 360 degrees both from inside and outside.

According to Google, all the images used for streetview where collected during the last few months. Also checkout the world cup Easter egg from Google.

With only 2 days left for the kickoff to the world’s largest football event, FIFA World Cup 2010, millions of soccer fans have already geared up! But this time, guys at Google have also decided to join the party by throwing an Easter egg to every Google search query related to world cup.

When any user types world cup into Google search, they will find a different Google logo at bottom of every result page. Instead of Goooooogle, they have switched to Gooooooal. [see screenshot]

For now, they are showing this goal logo for search queries containing the keyword “world cup” or “worldcup”.

Another great treat from Google in this worldcup season is that they have added StreetView images for all stadiums where the World Cup will be played in South Africa. Access Blocked Websites with HTTPS Google cache

Access blocked websites by using the https version of its Google cache. It’s like a free https proxy from Google and very fast loading.

In most colleges and schools, the content of certain sites is blocked using filters or firewalls. Normally in such case, most of us use free web proxies or vpn services. But most of these web proxy services are either slow or already blocked by the firewall and VPN servers are charging heavily per bandwidth.

The best method to try out in this case is by using google’s https cache service. This cache is linked directly to the secured https version of the site’s content in google servers. [you can access the google cache of any site by searching for cache:example.com in the search box]

HTTPS version could be added by entering an ‘s’ after the http cache url or you can download an extension for google chrome which converts all google cache link to its secured version.

We have already covered different applications which saves battery life for laptops. These battery savers respond to power change notifications by performing any set of pre configured actions. One such application written in C# is BatterySaver.

BatterySaver is quite useful at times when you need to disable lot of services which you currently don’t need at the time of travel. Suppose if you’re travelling and don’t need to use any internet services, so using this application you can save a lot of laptop battery life by stopping or disabling unnecessary processes, services and devices.

The probable reason of this error is because when many requests for download is sent to mediafire server from the same ip, they enables some kind of bot prevention which uses captchas.

The latest version of this Mediafire auto downloader MFFE v3.1.0.1 Beta seems to have corrected this error and now downloads files from mediafire properly. Now only one link is downloadable at a time from mediafire using this software.

Google Chrome User Agent Switcher Spoofs any browsers

Chromeleon is a user agent switcher extension for Google chrome. This extension allows users to change the user agent string passed by Chrome to mock any browser they wish.

This useragent spoofer extension allows Chrome users to access sites which lock contents to certain browsers or intentionally block chrome. Also you can set a specific filtering list, so that Chromeleon will automatically switch user-agent strings based on the domain or URL specified.

Only problem with this extension is that it does not modify HTTP headers, so sites which sniff useragents at network level could see through the spoofing.

Chrome browser spoofing could also be done from command line without installing the extension.

Just add --user-agent="custom string" to the target in the shortcut to chrome

For example, this is how to make chrome report itself as IE8.0 on my machine

C:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe --user-agent="Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.0; Trident/4.0; Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1) ; .NET CLR 3.5.30729)"

and run chrome using that shortcut.

Removal Tool: MS Office 2007 Complete Uninstall

If you are facing problems uninstalling Microsoft Office 2007 from your system using the default Add or Remove programs feature, then follow this manual procedure for removing MS Office.

First of all verify that you cannot uninstall 2007 Microsoft Office system from the control panel itself using the default manner.

How to verify in Win XP

Go to Start> Run and type control appwiz.cpl. Press Enter.

From app list select MS office 2007 and click remove.

For Windows Vista:

Go to control panel> Programs and Features or type programs and features in the Search box, and then press ENTER.

Select Microsoft office and click Uninstall/Change

If you’re able to successfully remove the MS office software from your computer, then you’re done. If any error pops up during the uninstall procedure then follow the below mentioned alternative method. One of the uninstallation error which I’ve come across:

Cannot fine setup.ini file.

Setup cannot continue because a required file is either corrupted or not available. Run setup again from the original source disc or download location.

Setup failed. Rolling back changes.

Alternative method for removing Microsoft Office 2007 from computer.

You have two options for completely removing the office suite from your computer. For manual procedure go to this article from Microsoft which describes step by step procedure for the manual removal method. But as this method is too long and tedious, you use the Microsoft Office removal software mentioned below which automatically uninstalls Microsoft office system.

Other option is by using MS Office 2007 removal tools.

Remove Office 2007 is a small utility which is able to remove MSOffice 2007 version only. It’s only 128KB in size the does the job perfectly. After it uninstalls the software, this tool automatically restarts the computer. After restart, your OS might look for the Office MSI installer again, if it does just cancel the setup which pop ups asking to install Office again. Also this utility doesn’t have a close button, so use task manager to end it if needed.

Note: Run this removal tool as administrator.[right click and select run as administrator]. Also this utility doesn’t remove your already saved documents like MS word, MS excel, MS PowerPoint files.

Purpose code is a five digit alphanumeric code which is to be entered while withdrawing funds from PayPal to your local bank account. This code helps your bank provide information required by the Reserve Bank of India [RBI] to identify the nature of transaction.

You’ll need to wait upto 3rd March for requesting withdrawal to your bank account along with a paypal purpose code relevant to your business. You can find the list of the purpose code required by paypal here.

Commonly used Paypal code for withdrawal are : P0101/P0104, P0301,P0801, P0802, P0803, P0805, P0806, P0902, P1004, P1005, P1006, P1007, P1008, P1009.

If you’ve already withdrawn your money from account prior to March 1st, then you’ll have to wait for few days to get the full amount credited back to your paypal balance [No fees will be deducted]. Once it’s fully credited back you can initiate a withdrawal request again to your local bank account providing the Purpose Code relevant to your business.

Windows 7 Hackers Bypass Activation Technologies Update [KB971033]

Microsoft has pushed a new update to it’s Windows 7 users which detects validation errors and activation exploits. This update known as Windows Activation Technologies (WAT) detects any tampering made to windows 7 system files.

Windows7 activation technologies is capable of detecting whether you’re having an original version of windows 7 by looking over 70 known and potentially dangerous activation and hacking exploits. With this update KB971033, Microsoft intends to notify it’s users whether they’re having a legitimate copy of windows7 or whether they’ve been tricked into buying a counterfeit software.

Even though hackers have easily managed to bypass this activation update, many folks who have been tricked into ‘purchasing’ cheap version Windows 7 from local black market vendors may have fallen prey for it.

So if you’re not sure from where you got your ‘copy’ of Windows 7 download, it’s better advised to stay away this update.

To bypass Windows 7 Activation Technologies Update, just look for an update named KB971033 in your update list. Scroll through each update manually and check the details on right hand side to spot this silent update. If found, just deselect it and continue. You’ve bypassed the ‘pirate’s threat’ from Microsoft successfully.

If you’ve already installed KB971033 update, then it checks and performs a validation process for your copy of windows7.

#Case 1: If no validation errors, activation exploits, or tampered files are detected on your system, then this update silently exits. That means you’re either having a legit copy of Win7 or a full proofed cracked Windows 7.

#Case 2: If it detects any tampered files, which occurs mostly in case of malware infected or custom repacked windows, then the update tries to restore the original file after a reboot. If unsuccessful, you’ll be notified and redirected to more detailed information on the internet.

#Case 3: If the validation update detects any validation errors and activation exploits, then you’ll be redirected to internet for the resolution of this error. And when the exploits and errors are removed, you’ll be asked to activate the Windows copy using genuine license keys. After that, you’ll be periodically notified that you’re copy of Windows7 is not genuine until you format your drive or install a fresh ‘genuine’ or ‘pirated’ copy of win7.

Prevention is way better than cure, so turn off the automatic updates in control panel asap and check each update manually before installing in order to bypass the windows 7 activation update from Microsoft.

Need Paypal Export Code? Here’s how I Got it!

It has been a tough time for the Indian PayPal users this month after PayPal officially announced that it has stopped allowing personal payments to be sent to or from India. Withdrawals from PP to local bank accounts was also not working as normal due to some issues they were having with Reserve Bank of India.

But now, Farhad Irani from PayPal team has announced in their official blog that PayPal will resume local bank transfer in India from 3rd March and users will be able to withdraw funds to Indian local banks provided they have an ‘Export Code’.

Export code or Import Export code [IEC] is a 10 digit numeric code issued to Indian companies by Director General of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce, Government of India. To import or export in India, IEC Code is mandatory.

AS recommended by the RBI, PP now requires that it’s Indian users will have to fill out ‘Export Code’ when they request a withdrawal. So how do we obtain this Paypal export code.

Getting an Import Export code is not so much a hassle. It’s a one time process and is valid for rest of your life just like your PAN card. So in order to get one for yourself just follow these simple procedures.

Download the IEC application from the official website of Director General of Foreign Trade [http://dgftcom.nic.in/] or just use this direct link.

Fill the form and if you’re applying for IEC as an individual [Proprietorship], then make sure you have the following requirements.

PAN Number [PAN card copies]
Current Bank Account
Bankers Certificate
Date of birth certificate
Demand Draft of Rs. 250 [application fee]
Passport size photographs of the applicant duly attested by the Banker of the applicant.[2 copies]
Self addresses envelope with Rs.25/- postal stamp for delivery of IEC certificate by registered post or challan/DD of Rs.100/- for speed post.

In order to avoid those unwanted telemarketing calls and constantly annoying promotional offers from your telecom provider, you can register in the National Do Not Call Registry (NDNC Registry) provided by TRAI.

The main intention of DND [Do not Disturb] facility [now called NDNC] is to curb unsolicited commercial communication(UCC) through telecommunications service. This UCC does not include service or transaction messages from your provider, sms related to charities, national campaigns or calamities transmitted by govt or any other public service related messages.

How to Activate DND and register your request in NDNC registry.

Dial 1909 from your mobile or SMS the keywords without qoutes 'START DND' to 1909 for registration and 'STOP DND' for de-registration.

NDNC [India] Registry has a database with a list of all numbers who doesn’t want to receive UCC. Telemarketers will have to verify their telephone numbers list with the NDNC registry before attempting a call. You can also activate DND online through your telecom provider itself. All telecom providers are directed to upload the mobile number within 45 days of receipt.
