During the weekend, I went to Anime Expo 2012 in Los Angeles with my friends. I decided to wear my Deadmau5 head and drew crowds everywhere i looked. Great time and recommend to anyone in the LA area. Go next year its worth the price.

DIY Arc Reactor

Heya everyone! for the next two days hopefully ill be showing you how to create your very own Arc reactor for under $20 here is what hopefully your arc will look like when its done. This one was my 3rd arc reactor made which i wore on halloween.

Ok so first for this you will need some things...

8 wooden spools,

black electric tape

2 long pieces of Hot glue sticks

1 piece of pvc pipe around 4in in diameter

copper wire lots of it

hot glue sticks+glue gun

acrylic sheet

screws

wire mesh

To start, you take the spools and coat them in a thin coat of metallic paint. Make sure to keep them evenly coated to not get any bubbles. Once thats done wrap some electrical tape around them. This will help when wrapping the copper wire around it to give a layered effect to cut back on how much wire you use.

After thats done its time to start wrapping the spools in wire. This is gonna take some time but you have to be ready.

Been a couple weeks since I updated this one sorry about that. Anyway I got time around yesterday and wrapped the spools with copper wire. The wire was thicker than what I had hopped but made it 10 times easier with having to wrap them only once instead of the multiple times it would have taken normally.

Not the best pictures but the only camera I have is my iphone. After wrapping the spools I began to cut the glue sticks to the right size. With this you have to eyeball how long you cut them.

Once you do that I fit the part of the Arc in the PVC pipe to make sure everything fits into place. You need to make all this fit inside the 4in PVC pipe.

Once that was done I finished up the rest of the Arc and once again fit it into that to see if you need to make any adjustments.

The details will come next like the little pieces of copper wire fake 'Soldered' on the actual copper wire. The details can be seen down below. This is the screen used Arc Reactor.

Joker painting commission

I was recently commissioned to do a couple Joker paintings of the Obamanized version of the Joker. Here is a picture of the version they wanted...

I created a stencil version of it incase i wanted to make one for myself... In the end the stencil was the best decision because i was asked to do 2 more. In stead of re drawing it i just stenciled it on the canvass like the original.

Around here i ran into some problems with color choices.. I tried to get the sand color for the border and face like the original but i couldnt get it right. I made the horrible mistake of painting the color on them and hated it. I had to scrape the paint off the face and re paint the face white. In the end i left it white and did a black border around the edges.

Deadmau5 Photoshoot

First post of a new year! wooooo! thanks everyone for keeping up with me and a happy new year to all! as promised here are some of the best pictures we took during the photoshoot around town. Big thanks to my friend Gary for taking the time out of his day to help me with this... It was a long day and i turned many heads walking by people wearing this. Lots of people loved it and took pictures from far and up close next to me. Had to be careful to not hit people with the ears.....

During the photoshoot i staered out great full of energy but by the afternoon the heat started to get to me. Considering it was 87 degrees outside in california i had to take the head off multiple times to keep myself from dehydrating....

In my opinion i think this picture was the best out of them all. I love how the background came out and i cant wait to do it again soon!In the end i sold this one to a friend for $35 and he wears it now as he dances at parties. Ive been thinking of making another one this time instead of fabric a smooth surface to create a Deadmau5 yearbook for my last year of high school.

Evil Deadmau5

Ok so i managed after 2 weeks of work to finish the deadmau5 head! Got it shaped carved threaded and formed! all thats left is to cover the front with fabric, add the mouth and teeth!

Started to cover the front and added the mouth and teeth in. Pricked my fingers countless times getting the needles through the paper mache which is harder than it looks.... so far i like how its going

Finished that and started to hot clue the fabric to the paper mache. Had to cut it a coupletimes to not get any creases in the fabric. after 2 hours i got the head completely covered and finished! enjoy!

MOAR KISS paintings

my dad decided he wanted another painting to go with the one i made for his office... this time an album cover and out of ALLLLLLLLLLL the possibilities he had... he had to pick Destroyer...

The art on the cover is amazing in my opinion... its just i have no experience at all on drawing full body people. The first thing i had to do was sketch an idea of how i was going to place them on the canvas.. The cover is in a square shape like how many Vinyl records are. The canvas is a rectangle... took some time to get the size right but i figured it out. somehow the image got flipped... great.

After that i cut out the shape and traced it on the canvas to fill with the details. After that i started to do a basic black coat on the group to see how many layers of paint i would need. luckily only2 layers of black were needed to get the right color. Drawing the scale pattern on Gene Simmons boots was a real pain to get right...

Once that was done i began to sketch the rocky base theyre jumping off. That was also given a black base coat to get the shadow.

After that, i began painting the brown and trying to get the colors right on the costumes. The details on all of them were a pain to paint on but the outcome was fantastic.

Once that was started the background needed to be done... a hard lesson learned, never use watercolor on canvas... it just looks bad

and now here i stand, fixed the watercolor mess and just trying to get it done... On the bright side i started the Deadmau5 head again to try and do it right.. Wish me luck on both! also thinking of making a facebook page... let me know what you guys think yes or no

KISS Painting

This started off as a project to distract me from the horrible Deadmau helmet failure and slowly transformed into a project of its own! my dad liked it and wanted it for his office...

Over time i began to learn that the more i sketched out the faces and more color i added the better it got. The last face i needed was Gene Simmons... i originally didnt make a sketch so i had to wing it and use a rough draft as the final copy and im pleased with the results

Once i got that done my dad suggested adding symbols on the corners and the KISS logo in the center. After some research on the web i found some images of the symbols and sketched them on and did a test layer of the placement.

Once he OK'd the design i began to darken everything and i decided to do a flame color for the KISS logo in the center. In the end i was happy on how it came out and he was happy. thanks for looking!

Arc Reactor

kind of a delayed post but i finally found some free time to update! For Halloween this year i decided to be Tony Stark from Iron Man, tho i didnt have enough time to grow out the beard, i got pretty close where people could recognize me without the Arc Reactor. I wish i had taken progress pictures but i made it in only 4 days in my garage with a box of scraps... The copper wire spools are made of well.. spools. The outer ring is hot glue sticks shaped to the form of a ring. The inner ring is made out of epoxy sculpt and the base is a ÇD to give it a reflective look. The light is a single really bright LED hot glued to the center.

In the end i was pleased with how it came out and i will make another one just

for me. My friend bought this one from me after Halloween was over and asked for a stand to go along with it.

DeadMau5 Head

So after getting tired of painting I decided i needed to make another prop, in this case the iconic Deadmau5 head worn by Joel Thomas Zimmerman. The head is basicaslly a giant mouse head with white eyes and a big smile. Im still poor and a lack of funds im going with the Paper Mache route many have taken. Updated soon!

Finally got started on the project. I created a paper mache sphere with an old beach ball which unfortunately popped but luckily it was after the mache had dried so i was lucky with that. Heres a reference shot and i know yes the sphere is not size accurate.

unfortunately here in california the weather took a turn for the worst and it started to rain horribly and getting to 60 degrees which has a huge effect on paper mache so basically the head collapsed after i cut it out but i managed to salvage the ears... gotta start over again hopefully the weather gets better.

Holiday Painting, Jack & Sally

Recently i got a commission from my friend to make a painting for her aunt who is a huge Nightmare before christmas fan. Her idea was to have Jack and Sally with Zero together on a canvass. I had an extra canvass lying around and decided to take the job! i goofed off for a while which is a no no on my part, but i got pretty far in 2 days of work. Here are some pictures of where im at.

The tricky part was at the time i was completely out of acrylic color paints except white. I decided to improvise and use some water color pencils i had lying around. The effect came out well and they loved the look. Still need to add the hill on the side and finish Sallys face.

Hover board

recently I was asked to help with something to add to our School yearbook, some sort of picture to make things different. Here is what i gave them! a Hover Board. I wish i had taken progress pictures but it was a tight schedule. the base is made of MDF wood and tinted window pannel as the 2nd layer. The yellow is construction paper and the red and green are painted on. Enjoy!

Ok so to help make money in these tough times, ive started doing stencil designs on vinyl records to help try and pay for the materials to start my Bioshock infinite Song bird costume. For those unfamiliar with Songbird, here is a picture of what he looks like.

To help create this monster ive started selling Vinyl Lp's for $5 of a design ive created or $7 for any design you want. if interested please leave a comment with the design you want or a suggestion. Here are some of the designs i have available at the moment

Masks repainting

A week ago i got a pair of masks at a swap meet. Im not exactly sure of the origin of them but if anybody can tell, please leave a comment to help me out. When i bought these masks they were in decent shape but had alot of scratches, chipped paint and a broken tooth. You can see the scratches and faded paint on the one on the left. The one on the right i decided to just leave it as it is.

I started with the teeth and gave them a fresh coat of white paint. Next came the red all around the mask. Due to my limited supply i had to spray paint some gold into a little cup and use that for the details.

The mask completely painted. I decided to not fix the broken tooth because it helps give character to the mask. The red and Gold were kept as close to the original color as I could but im proud of how it came out.

one of my drawings i did way back of Jack Skellington from Tim Burton's "Nightmare Before Christmas". i decided to paint it and have something to hang on my wall. For now ive sketched it out and started to paint some of it. enjoy for now!

Mohawk Mogwai prop from Gremlins 2

For my next build i decided to build Mohawk, the mogwai from the 1990 film Gremlin 2: The New Batch. He is described as... As a mogwai, Mohawk had black and white fur, red-yellow eyes and very sharp teeth, also has curved ears that resembled small bat wings along with a distinct white mohawk from the top of his head to his back. The body and details are going to be made with paper mache and sculpting putty. After 2 days of work i had the body, head and ears done and ready to give another layer of paper mache.

So today i went to this fabric store close to my house and got some black and white fabric. Cut out some black fabric and hot glued it to the body.

At this point he looks more like an ape instead of the gremlin but im working on it. The ears and facial details i decided im going to sculpt with putty and cover in liquid plaster to help keep its shape. Plumber putty was great for the ears because of the way its easy to work with and not messy at all. Later i started to add the white fur around the arms, legs and chest. Theres also a white stripe going down the back but right now im having trouble on how to make the mohawk...

And all thats left is the mohawk and the feet.... i feel that it could have come out better but for one week of work im happy with it

So i decided to redo the gremlin and im pretty happy with the results so far!

The entire thing is made up of only rolled up newspaper and aluminum. The fur is kept together by hot glue so i guess its a pretty eco friendly prop. the ears are made of oven friendly clay with non toxic paint.

Baby Alien

Recently I got the original vinly LP of the soundtrack to the original Alien. I thought to myself... its missing something. so i grabbed some clay and started to sculpt an Aien (xenomorph). the original idea was to have a stand for it but after a while of sculpting the idea evolved into a fetus in a jar. The entire alien is clay and the water glow was made with some high liter fluid mixed in.

Portal Gun + Potato GLaDOS

Ok so the school year is almost over and for my art final which was a paper Mache project. I decided to make the Portal Gun from the game Portal /2. The internet and many of my friends are fascinated by the game so I thought... if people on the internet can do it.... Why cant I? The picture above is from Volpin Props who did an amazing Portal gun build but was too expensive in the current economy and my lack of tools to follow. His website is:http://volpinprops.blogspot.com/2009/01/testing.html The first thing i did was design and get an idea of how i wanted it to look in the end.

Once i got that done came the part of shaping everything. Since GLaDOS is pretty much a potato i decided to start there. For those who don't really want to read through all this, heres the finished GLaDOS Potato all paper mached, detailed, painted and glued together. The cable in the back is an ipod adapter which i connected to an internal speaker cause its not GLaDOS if she cant insult you.

The first thing i did was wad up a bunch of newspaper till i got a decent potato shape. After that i wrapped it pretty tight with tape to give it a sturdy shape. After that it was layer after layer till i got it thick enough so it wouldn't bend. Once that was done i began to form the eye for GLaDOS. The basic outer part was made of craft foam, detailed, and used as a master to follow to sculpt out of clay. The details were added before it could dry and solidify. .

The two cables powering GLaDOS were cut ahead of time from extra wire i had lying around. These were wrapped around a pair of regular nails and put into the paper potato. Once that was done i began to build one of the two main shells of the Portal Gun. This was done by placing a layer of paper over a one gallon can of paint to get the rounded feeling and just did it over and over and over to get the right thickness and round shape. Tape was put around the edges to pull it together to add the curve effect.

Next came the first layer of paper mache for GLaDOS and the bigger shell. Once the first layer hardened i cut off the excess paper mache to smooth it out. Another layer was added and allowed to set. I only had 2 weeks on this final so its not gonna be perfect. The second layer was smoothed out with some sand paper and covered again every wrinkle and crease was sanded down until my patience ran out around 35min into class.

Once it was sanded down I took it home to add some details. I went to OSH and bought some sturdy waterproof cable, about 2 feet of it.... ended up being all i needed. The little holes for the cables to go into were created with plumber putty and hardened with clear glue.

With the other layers of paper mache, i kind of neglected taking pictures because of the rush to finish it. Once i got back to school i began to construct the 3 claws on the portal gun. The claws are about the same size as my arm so i used that as a reference and kinda winged it. In the end they came out better than i thought. To give the claws some sturdy support i put some wire under them and wrapped it with tape over and over till they wouldn't bend. I had to remember that i was going to end up putting GLaDOS on one of the claws like in the game.

Once that was done it was time to start the barrel part of the gun... to be honest i had no idea until my friend suggested to use the card board part of the used up rolls of tape. I collected as many as i could from the class because we went through alot of tape between everybody. the diameter of the tape was close to 4 1/2in which was exactly what i needed. i hot glued them together and test fitted it with the rest of the gun.

All this i got done in a week... one week left... busy weekend ahead of me. On the last day of the week, i set the gun aside and started to piece GLaDOS together, added some paint for the eye and added minor details like cables and such.

My paper mache skills are kinda messy i know... ill work on it ill work on it. Once that was done i took the gun home at the end of the day... people staring some saying GLaDOS, "Looks like a potato bomb" and what not. Once i got home i took a break to think of what i was going to do. 2 hours later i grabbed some paint and started to paint it.

After working almost all through my weekend, i was pretty happy with what i had. The claws were given a base coat of black, the shells were also coated and GLaDOS was given a light brown coat.

The center clear part of the gun was made with a card board cylinder and a clear cylinder which i hot glued together to give it some structure. The overall gun is really light but still needs some work. With only a day left i hope to finish up with the paint in class. GLaDOS was weathered with acrylic paints and lightly sanded down to give her that aged look. Once all that was done at school i gave everything a good coat of paint.

After that i hot glued everything together and painted any scratches it might have had. After that i put GLaDOS on the claw but it couldnt hold it up so i ended up hot gluing it to the side of the gun. i got an A on the project and everyone loved it. Overall its mainly paper mache with lots of wire and random objects. please critics are welcome
