I have always assumed that this is because those are the patterns that were produced in greatest quantities (in order to satisfy the initial demand) and that therefore there is a greater reservoir available of previously owned pieces.

Royal Doulton Strawberry Cream is one of the patterns that seems to defy that logic. We are often asked for it but we seldom manage to locate it. Perhaps the production run was shorter than with many other Royal Doulton tableware patterns.

Whatever the reason, Strawberry Cream is very difficult to find. We are therefore delighted to be able to offer our clients a small selection of this discontinued pattern, in very good condition.

To view the availability of Straberry Cream just visit our web site at Replace Your China

Do not leave your visit too long though as it may get sold quite quickly.

Enjoy your tableware,
Regards
Chris Eley
www.replaceyourchina.com

HORNSEA POTTERY CORNROSE

The range of items produced was very extensive and the fully vitrified product became extremely popular. The pattern of cornrose poppies was, and still is, very attractive, and this was combined with a glaze that was long lasting and wear resistant. Many of the items that we now stock, look to be brand new, which is quite remarkable when you consider that they are at least 25 years old.
Visit our web site at www.replaceyourchina.com to see the range that we currently have in stock.

Enjoy your tableware,

Regards

Chris Eley
www.replaceyourchina.com

Poole Pottery Fresco

It's hand painted, brushed slip look became instantly popular. It was designed by Rachel Barker and Andrew Brickett. Customers were able to choose from a variety of rim colours including terracotta, yellow, blue and green. Many admirers plumped for a mixture of the colours.

The production run of Fresco was relatively short and many people were unable to complete their collections before new items became unobtainable. We seldom seem to get the opportunity to offer these items to our clients and are delighted to have some in stock at this time. These beautiful stoneware plates depicted images, in relief, of some of Britains favourite garden birds including The Blackbird, The Robin, The Blue Tit, The Song Thrush, The Swallow and The Wren. Each of these plates was issued in a limited edition of 5000 and its individual number and additional information it clearly marked on the reverse of the plate.

Like most of Barbara Linley Adams work, these plates have now become hotly collected. Look out for them. They are both a joy for the present and an investement for the future.

View some of these plates, and other Poole Pottery decorative items on our website

Good Hunting,
Regards
Chris Eley
www.replaceyourchina.com

Poole Pottery "The Four Seasons" Wall Plaques

Over the years they were quite prolific in the number of quality patterns of tableware that they produced. Eventually they became part of Royal Doulton.

Possibly the best known of the patterns produced by Royal Albert, is Old Country Roses. A wide range of tableware items were produced in this lovely pattern and it is now sought after by collectors world wide. In recent years, the production has been moved abroad, but most serious collectors are only interested in items produced in England, believing them to be of a higher quality.

We have been fortunate to acquire an amount of the English made Old Country Roses in excellent condition, and it can be viewed on our web site at www.replaceyourchina.com
Further items will be added to the site in the near future.

Enjoy your tableware
Regards,
Chris Eley
www.replaceyourchina.com

Denby Pottery Daybreak

The pattern was introduced to the market in 1991. Its vibrant colours make it very distinctive and it is much loved by its many collectors. Unfortunately, its production was relatively short and pieces have now become very hard to find. We were delighted to obtain a reasonable quantity of it recently in good condition and it is now offered for sale at our web site at Replace Your China.

If you wish to view the photographs of this lovely pattern, I suggest that you visit the site fairly soon as I do not expect it to remain in stock for long.

Enjoy your tableware.
Regards
Chris Eley
www.replaceyourchina.com

Poole Pottery Twintone Mushroom and Sepia (C54)

One of the most popular of those was Mushroom and Sepia (pattern code C54). Poole started producing this range before the Second World War, and then reintroduced it in the 1950's. Production continued until the early 80's.
The earlier production was in the Streamline shapes, very evocative of the period and still very much appreciated to this day. Later production was in the Contour shape, designed by Robert Jefferson.
We have recently obtained a quantity of items in Mushroom and Sepia and they can be seen at our web site by clicking here. Other patterns in this collection included Imperial Blue, Damask, Maplewood, Images, Blue Dawn and Summerfields. Rather ironically it did not include the Sherwood pattern which had, of course, been discontinued many years previously. The shapes of this range were designed by Robin Pavitt.

I think that one of the appeals of Daybreak is that although it has a quite distinctive pattern, the patterning is rather understated and subdued, so that you do not get fed up with it when eating your meals from it every day. Certainly we find that at Replace Your China we are constantly asked for Denby Daybreak even 26 years after its first manufacture.

That is why we are delighted to be able to announce that we have just obtained a fresh quantity of this range in excellent condition. In general terms Parkstone has an off-white background with obvious grey speckling. Broadstone has a background that is more of a sandy yellow with less pronounced speckling. The problem is not helped by the fact that the depth of the colouring in the Broadstone seemed to vary slightly with nearly every firing. In fact one worker told me that it could even vary in the same firing, depending upon the position of the item in the kiln. Have a good look at the photographs in our web pages showing Broadstone and Parkstone - hopefully this will help.

At Replace Your China we have just obtained a further supply of Poole Pottery Broadstone including some dinner plates, which are always difficult to obtain. Although, unavoidably, all of these items have been previously owned, they are all in excellent condition and will grace any table setting.

Enjoy your tableware

Regards
Chris Eley
www.replaceyourchina.com

Denby Pottery Arabesque - Fresh Stock

Although we have had a small amount in stock, we have been struggling to find additional items in good enough condition to purchase. I think we had rejected the previous three consignments because when we viewed them they just were not good enough. While accepting that all Denby Arabesque that we purchase at Replace Your China is now of some age and has been previously owned, we still stick to our guiding principle in such matters. The tableware must be of a condition that we would be happy to display on our own table, in the presence of guests. Based upon the flattering feedback that we get, that guide line seems to work for 99.99% of our clients.

Anyway, back to the point of this blog. Once again the background to Midnight is a rich and vibrant blue but the colouring is broken cleverly up with an understated coloured pattern. Also of course the shapes have been modernised to suit contemporary kitchen fashions.

Because of its popularity, we are seldom able to offer Midnight to our clients. Although it was manufactured and sold in large quantities during its production run, those fortunate people who own this pattern, do not often seem want to part with it, so we have great difficulty in locating in on the previously owned market.

However, we have now been able to add some items of Denby Pottery Midnight to our web site at www.replaceyourchina.com and will be adding additional items over the next few days.

Enjoy your tableware,
Regards
Chris Eley
www.replaceyourchina.com

Royal Doulton Autumn's Glory

One such pattern is the Autumn's Glory range manufactured by Royal Doulton.

The production of Autumn's Glory ceased many years ago and I know that if I had been involved in that decision, I would have been recommending its continuance. However, I guess that Royal Doulton had enough problems without having the added encumbrance of having me on the senior management team.

It had a pattern of fresh looking fruit and leaves on a plain white background, all showing on attractively shaped tableware with a practical and user friendly glaze. I do not know how many years it was produced for, but I suspect that it was fewer years than many patterns, because it seldom becomes available to us in good condition. Or perhaps the problem is that those lucky people who have this range, just cannot bear to part with it, so none becomes available on the "previously owned" market. You may have guessed: I quite like this pattern.

To view our current stock of this pattern just click on Autumn's Glory .

Enjoy your tableware

Chris Eley
www.replaceyourchina.com

Selling Your Tableware

I thought it might be worth offering a couple of tips that might guide clients in the right direction if they are trying to sell tableware to a replacement service such as ours.

Firstly, have a critical look at the items that you wish to sell. Most replacement services will only purchase items that are in perfect condition. It is no good telling the prospective buyer that your set is in perfect "as new" condition, when it is not. When they examine it, they will simply reject it and you are back to square one. So make a list of all the items that you have, and then put a note next to each item to indicate its condition. Then if any offer is made by the replacement service, it is likely that they will stick to that offer when they receive the items.

The other thing that is worth mentioning in your initial communication with the prospective buyer, is the general location that the items are currently stored. As with several of the major replacement services, staff from Replace Your China usually collect any items that we agree to buy, so before we make any decision as to the purchase, we need to know where the collection will need to be made from.

The other seemingly obvious point to communicate is the name of the manufacturer and pattern that you are trying to sell. It might seem obvious but you would be amazed at how often those details are not included.

Enjoy your tableware
Regards
Chris Eley
www.replaceyourchina.com

Replacement Rubber Seals for Hornsea Pottery Storage Jars

This is a challenge that has faced thousands of users of some of the most popular storage jar ranges produced by Hornsea Pottery.

Hornsea Pottery patterns such as Heirloom, Fleur, Tapestry, Bronte and Saffron storage jars were all of the same shape and used the same seals to make the lids airtight. When you consider just how many years it is since these items were first manufactured, it is hardly surprising that many of the original seals have deteriorated to such an extent that the jars are no longer air tight.

After much searching, we are pleased to report that we are now able to supply the seals for this range of jars. Please note that as far as we know the seals that we provide do not fit any other jars, so if you have a Hornsea jar that is a different shape than the above patterns, or if your jar is from a different manufacturer, please do not purcBlogger: Replace Your China - Create Posthase these seals from us. I think there is something about its understated patterning that stops users from getting fed up with it. Add to that, the fact that it has a good protective glaze, and it is not surprising that many people still prefer it to Denby Pottery's modern offerings.

We are delighted to have obtained a further quantity of Daybreak in excellent condition, including some rather unusual pieces, such as candlestick holders and a small lidded casserole. These offerings will not be available for long - Daybreak always sells quickly, so do not miss this opportunity to top up your set. For a long time the ranges was produced at the same time and the shapes of the two ranges were largely the same.

Many people seem to confuse the two ranges but in fact they can easily be distinguished. Firstly the Cameo glaze has a much glossier finish, whereas Twintone has a more matt or silky finish. The other, more obvious way to differentiate between them is to look at a cup or jug. The inside of a Twintone cup will be in the complimentary colour of the "twin tones". For example the Twintone range of Sky Blue and Dove Grey will be Dove Grey on the outside and Sky Blue on the inside. In the case of the Cameo cup, the outside will display the main colour (eg Celeste, Blue Moon, Celadon), and the inside of the cup will be white.

I hope that helps a bit.

Enjoy your tableware.

Regards
Chris Eley
http://www.replaceyourchina.com/
Tel: 01202 600838
Email: chris@replaceyourchina.com

J & G Meakin, Poppy

In 1970 they joined the Wedgwood Group.

One of the most popular and easily recognised of their ranges was "Poppy". With its bright red flowers and some unusual shapes, it is easily identifiable and still has a large following. It will certainly brighten any table setting.

One of the problems for both dealers in this range, and for their clients is that Poppy is very prone to crazing, especially on the plates and saucers. We were delighted recently to be able to purchase a quantity of items of Poppy in very good condition. At the time of writing this blog, some of those items, are still available on our site at Replace Your China , including some interestingly shaped serving dishes.

Don't miss the opportunity to purchase your requirements of this scarce pattern. You might have a long wait before you seen any more.

Enjoy your tableware.

Regards
Chris Eley
http://www.replaceyourchina.com/

Poole Pottery Compact Shape

So it struck me that most tableware manufacturers seem to give little thought to producing designs that are attractive, and yet also practical enough to stack neatly and safely into cupboards and storage areas.

Poole Pottery produced some really attractive designs that fitted the above criteria. The Compact shape was designed by Robert Jefferson in the 1960's. Cups had vertical sides and an inset base that allowed them to stack safely, making the most of available storage space. Dessert, cereal and soup bowls also fitted nicely inside each other, without awkward "sticky out" handles to cause the pile to topple.

The Poole Compact shape just seemed such a sensible idea, and was certainly a commercial success for the pottery. Indeed we still have a constant demand for this range, even though it has not been manufactured for several decades.

The photograph above shows some items from the Chestnut range, but Poole also produced many other colours and patterns in this shape. These included Parkstone, Broadstone, Charcoal, Choisya, Argosy, Arden, Lakestone, Melbury, Azure, Wimborne, Vortex, Cyclamen, Sherwood, Thistlewood, Lagoon and September. Colours were produced for every taste. Despite the fact that the range was discontinued so long ago. much of it survives in excellent condition and the on-line store Replace Your China has many excellent items for sale.

Poole Pottery's production of any tableware these days is minimal and their current influence on the tableware market is almost non existent. I hope this changes in the future as the pottery is very much part of the heritage of the town of Poole, but I am not holding my breath.

In the meantime lets hope that other manufacturers start give more thought to the practicality of their designs rather than just the aesthetics.

Enjoy your tableware.

Regards

Chris Eley

http://www.replaceyourchina.com/

Email: chris@replaceyourchina.com

Tel: 01202 600838

Denby Pottery, Greenwheat

Its minimalist patterning and clean looks immediately appealed to the general public and production continued for over twenty years. Some of the items changed in shape over the years but the pattern never lost its popularity and is still in great demand to this day.

Greenwheat (or "wheatsheaf" as many people call it), must rank alongside Arabesque as one of the most enduring and readily recognised of patterns that Denby have ever produced. It is one of those patterns that never seem to age. If it had been first introduced in the current century, I have no doubt that it would prove just as popular as it did in the 50's.

However, the truth is that Greenwheat can now only be purchased on the "previously owned" market and quality items are becoming difficult to obtain. Why not visit our website at Replace Your China and purchase your requirements of this classic pattern while we still have some available.

Enjoy your tableware.

Regards

Chris Eley

http://www.replaceyourchina.com/

Tel: 01202 600838

Poole Pottery Springtime Tableware

Amongst other popular patterns produced in this shape were Country Lane and Summer Glory.

Springtime was introduced in the 1970's and remained popular for several years. It is difficult to be very accurate about when the production ceased, as even after it was no longer supplied to shops and stores, it was still available for many years from the Poole Pottery shop on Poole Quay. However, what I can say with absolute certainty is that it has not now been manufactured for many years, and has become very difficult to find in any quantity in good condition.

That is one of the reasons that I am so delighted to be able to offer a reasonable quantity of it for sale on our web site at Replace Your China. This latest batch is in excellent condition, and I suspect that much of it has never been used. The only problem I had is that while I was still listing the new stock onto the web site, some of the items that I had listed first were already being sold.

If you are looking for items of Poole Pottery Springtime, make sure that you visit our website before the items are snapped up by somebody else.

Best Wishes

Chris Eley

http://www.replaceyourchina.com/

Email: chris@replaceyourchina.com

Tel: 01202 600838

Denby Pottery Arabesque

Other patterns are popular from the outset, but are still loved and sought after, many years after their production has ceased.

Denby Pottery Arabesque in definitely one of the latter. I suppose it is a bit like Marmite really; either you love it or you hate it. It is so striking and unusual that there is no "in between" in feelings about it. Arabesque was designed by Gill Pemberton and went into production in the 1960's and was not discontinued until 1984. Not many of the patterns currently being produced with be in production for a half of that time span.

Despite the fact that it has not been made for nearly a quarter of a century, Arabesque is still much sought after, both by people who use it on a daily basis and by collectors from around the world.

We have just managed to purchase a small amount of Arabesque and as usual much of it has been snapped up almost before we had finished listing in on the website.

If you are looking for items of this lovely set, visit our web site at http://www.replaceyourchina.com/denby-pottery-arabesque-16-c.asp before it all disappears.

Enjoy your tableware.
Regard
Chris Eley
http://www.replaceyourchina.com/
