Vehicle series XCAR reviews the return of Toyota's Supra. The vintage model is making its way back onto the racetrack after years of being discontinued. As the story goes, The Supra was originally modeled after the Celica back in 1978 then it made its own emergence into the automotive scene officially in 1986.

Designer Amanda Ghassaei has discovered a way to create wooden audio records. utilizing a 1200dpi laser she has been able to successfully replicate the grooves of vinyl records onto wooden pieces and actually play them back. Check out the following video to see how she does it.

A teaser for their second episode reveals a look into some of the ways emerging technology and apps have completely empowered independent brands and entities to shoot and edit their own video. Photographer Beth Galton gives us a literal "inside" look at foods via her Cut Food series. In it she captures popular dishes and snacks that are split in half exposing only their insides while still maintaining their structure. It's hard to explain, but even harder to pull off as she had to replace many of the liquid parts of her subjects with gelatin in order to retain their form.

The following is a European ad for full-service mobile bank Hello Bank. It features a full symphony orchestra playing with some rather non-traditional instruments. Without giving it away we'd just like to note that it's probably one of the more technologically advanced symphonies we've ever come across. The new mobile bank will be made available in Germany, Belgium, France and Italy. Genius way to brand!

Although California's infamous Death Valley is legendary for its less than welcoming name and reputation, there are in fact some beautifully redeeming qualities to the area. Take Sunchaser Picture's video of his stay for example, it captures a timelapse of the valley that depicts the truly all-encompassing beauty of its land and sky.

Tennis legend Andre Agassi joins the ranks of Nike once again. This time the retired player will be on the philanthropic and ambassador side of the field rather than a sponsored athlete. According to Nike's Phil Knight he'll join the company on the outreach side. "As one of the world’s greatest tennis players, Agassi embodied the passion, dedication and determination of the Nike brand. As a philanthropist and campaigner, he continues to share Nike’s commitment to inspire the young generation with his Just Do It spirit. We are honored to welcome him back." Congrats to him!

Although mostly feared for their catastrophic (even cataclysmic) power, volcanoes can also be revered for their majestic side. Take the beautiful volcano smoke photography of Helminadia Jabur whose images evoke a surreal sense of existence. Eruption danger aside, we've got to admit that these are some pretty amazing shots! Red Bull and some of the world's greatest fixed gear bicycle riders converged on San Francisco's Justin Herman Plaza park again for this year's Red Bull Ride + Style Fixed-Gear Competition. As expected the event brought out some of the most exhilarating and daring of two-wheelers, some of which banged out everything from backflips to frameless drops off and onto ramps. Watch the recap and really ask yourself how these guys pull all of these BMX style tricks on bikes with fixed (no free pedaling) cogs.

Things Come Apart is an intricate photo/design series by creative Todd McLellan. The premise of the project, which ultimately stemmed into a book of the same title, was to deconstruct the most popular and intricate objects (a bicycle, laptop, smartphones, Swiss army knife, etc.) that people use and truly observe their layout. Here are the visually stunning results.

They say that dusk and dawn are the proverbial "magic hours"--the transition between day and night that evokes the ethereal in all. Check out the new Balmorhea "Pyrakantha" video featuring professional skateboarder Danny Garcia and 42 day/nights worth of shooting at dusk to complete their objective. Los Angeles never looked so magical and intimate!

Juxtapoz magazine has announced that their June 2013 issue will be a special "Beastie Boys: Visual History + Tribute to MCA" edition. They will focus on all of the artists responsible for Beastie Boy cover art and photos like Glen E. Friedman, Bruce Davidson, Mike McGill along with a few others and the stories behind what inspired them all. Collector's item anyone?

Photographer Peter Menzel was curious about the world's eating habits and decided to document them in a unique way. His "What the World Eats" series (from a book that he published) features families from all over the globe including Africa, Europe, North America, South America and more, standing in their respective homes with all of the foods that they consume. The results are remarkable in terms of consumption differences, especially the diet difference between the modernized and more traditional/rural/indigenous families.

Ben Barrett-Forrest of Forrest Media presents an animated short about the history of typography. The five-minute piece, comprised of 291 paper letters, 2,454 photos and 140 hours of stop-motion, features an in-depth look at type from as far back as the original Blackletter to the modern-day Helvetica. A must-watch for typography nerds and visual artists alike. Kudos to the craftsmanship and conciseness.

Filmmaker Emily Kai Bock captures the essence of a young New York City underground rap scene in her documentary Spit Gold Under An Empire. The Montreal-based director followed MC's Mykki Blanco, Angel Haze and C.J. Fly as they went about their daily routine including walking their neighborhood streets and live audio sessions. The short is part of the larger New American Noise project that covers ground in other cities like New Orleans, Los Angeles and Detroit and the respective music scenes going on there as well.

The Stance Socks motto is "The Uncommon Thread". In accordance with this message the company has created an artist series dedicated to unique crafts that resonate with their mantra. The first installment features contortionists that literally "bend" the laws of the body's physics. And they do so while modeling some of this season's socks. We likes.

For readers unfamiliar with the former Soviet Union (Russia) and its use of vehicle dashboard cameras, allow us to introduce you. As it goes, insurance and car accident scams are very prevalent in the country. Enough so that most, if not all, drivers usually travel with dash cams on board to record any mishaps. Now while the cameras may be infamous for capturing bad road behavior, a new compilation of videos captures the amazingly positive side of drivers and concerned citizens. Watch how random acts of kindness by motorists help deliver pedestrians and other drivers from potentially dangerous situations. Be warned, this one will tug at your heart, maybe draw some tears.

Remember Mr. Roger's neighborhood? You know, the jolly old fellow that used to sing about "what a wonderful day in the neighborhood" it was? He's long gone. And even if he were in say 2013 Brooklyn, NYC, he'd be a long way from his suburban tranquility. Enter Hipster Rogers--the two-wheeling MC slash unofficial ambassador of Williamsburg. Brainchild of graphic designer and illustrator Hectah, Hipster Rogers is the epitome of gentrified OG. Touching on everything from neighborhood politics to his love for the bike-riding mamis, Hipster Rogers holds it down for a new kind of hood--social commentary and all. Peep his latest single, "Ride", an ode to everyone and everything peddling down his beloved streets.

Rapper Lil Wayne continues to dedicate himself to skateboarding. This time around he and some professional homies (Greg Lutzka, Tyler Hendley, Yo Yo and Christiona Sereika) hit California's Orange County to capture some nighttime thrills. Weezy and company laid it down, hitting everything from grass gaps to rails and even a ditch! Props to this. With all the negative publicity surrounding Lil Wayne, it's great to see him have fun doing something he truly enjoys.

After going for more than a decade without releasing any new music material, acclaimed MC and songstress Lauryn Hill is at the helm once again. Under a new contract with Sony Music, Ms. Hill is said to be working on a brand-new project due out sometime this year. In the meantime she's released "Neurotic Society" a very dark and telling song about the current state of hypnotic affairs. She also when on to mention a few things about the "rushed" release of it:

“Here is a link to a piece that I was ‘required’ to release immediately, by virtue of the impending legal deadline,” writes Ms. Hill. “I love being able to reach people directly, but in an ideal scenario, I would not have to rush the release of new music… but the message is still there.”



This past Saturday marked the 139th annual Kentucky Derby horse race. The prestigious event attracts both spectators and racers from over the globe to participate at the hallowed Churchill Down Tracks. This year's victory marks a very special one for us here at the office as Dominican-native (yes República) Joel Rosario was the winning jockey. The 27-year-old racer had just come off of his Dubai World Cup victory just over a month earlier. Dominicanos stand up!

Imagine what it would be like to journey inside of a cloud. This is exactly what inspired Japanese artist Fujiko Nakaya to create his mystifying (pun intended) huffs of artificial mist. Visitors can literally walk through an intense fog that replicates the make up of a cloud! Nakaya's curious elemental-based work is currently on display in Linz, Austria and uses a series of special nozzles that evaporate high-pressured water.

Black cowboys and black rodeos are the subject of filmmaker Kahlil Joseph's recent work. The visionary creative was inspired by an Oklahoma town who's population of African-American cowboys and cowgirls engage in literal "horseplay" just like any other rural American community. By capturing this intimate subculture Joseph reveals to his audience that the typical Anglo version of "Americana" isn't always a racially exclusive one.

It appears that Mountain Dew soft drink is joining the list of corporate names that have pulled back sponsorship deals with acclaimed Hip-Hop artists. Most of us know how sour the recent Reebok and Rick Ross deal went. Now PepsiCo (parent company of Mountain Dew) has decided to retract its current "Felicia The Goat" campaign with Tyler The Creator of rap group Odd Future. Sources link the move to some online backlash that declare the spots as "extremely racist and misogynist." Sounds almost like a joke to us considering that Tyler and the Odd Future crew have made their claim to fame in very unorthodox and seemingly "offensive" ways. In other words, wasn't Mountain Dew aware of the particular "brand of comedy" that the group is known for before sitting down and signing that contract? Guess not.

Indie rock group Landshapes hails from London however their most recent music video travels halfway across the world to Bolivia. It captures the magic of an indigenous village seated high up in the mountains and tells the story of a young native woman that dedicates herself to the art of wrestling. Beautifully shot and extremely intimate, director Ian Pons Jewell cleary deserves some sort of accolade for this majestic piece!

Los Angeles-based surf/skate label Matix just released a look into its 2013 Summer collection via--what else--a surf and skate video. The piece features some casual surfing and shredding in what looks like Venice Beach, California. Okay we get it, staying true to their roots via the help of surf ambassadors Turkey Stopnik and JJ Wessels and some homies that skate real solid. We can dig the homegrown effort.

Music's two favorite badboys Wiz Khalifa and Asap Rocky are bringing their respective camps together for the Under The Influence Tour set to take off this July 2013. The two plan to kick things off in San Francisco, California on July 17th and end it off in Cincinnati, Ohio on August 11th. Other invited guests include B.O.B., Trinidad James, Joey Bada$$, Pro Era as well as special guests Berner, Chevy Woods and Smoke DZA. It's fair to say that concert-goers can expect tons of smoke and antics.

Photographer Joe Pease decided to take his Predatory Bird deck out for a spin. While doing so he managed to capture the loose cruiser in DIY montage form. The result is a quirky short that spans some typical Californian city streets in atypical form. Check it out!

More than four decades after Detroit-based garage/protopunk band Death's inception, only now is their story being released to the world. As history has it, the band, comprised of three brothers (Bobby, David and Dannis Hackney), shopped their demo around in the 70's until they could shop it no more. The music industry at the time wanted Motown and unfortunately their sound was far from it. But all wasn't lost thanks to a 2009 independent release of their original demo tape. It was a hit and this rediscovery became the catalyst for the band's ultimate return. This is the story of A Band Called Death, now featured in a full-length documentary produced by Drafthouse Films. Hitting theaters June 28th, 2013.

Romain Jacquet-Lagreze first visited Hong Kong in 2009. From the very beggining he was enthralled by the sheer magnitude of its architecture and size. So much so that the photographer begane to focus his lens on the vertical limits of his imagination. The result is a series and book of stellar shots that'll make anyone's widen in awe.

Spanish design firm Forma & Co. decided to explore the capacity of minimalist iconography by experimenting with a few pop-culture icons. Their Re-Visions series reinterprets franchises like Marvel Comics, KISS and the Barcelona Football Club to name a few. Amazing to see how the slightest visual cues can conjure up a conditioned mind's memory of a popular brand or concept!

Not since the days of elementary school have we really wondered about the distance of any planet. Although every now and then (when things get quiet at the office) it is possible to slip into a daydream about some interplanetary travel. We're pretty sure that's how Motion and Interaction Designer David Paliwoda came up with the idea to animate and calculate (in pixels) the Distance To Mars. What a brilliant way to show folks that the red planet is only twice the size of the Earth's moon and more than 428K pixels away.

Desillusion Magazine and videographer Patrick Pearse team up to give viewers a glimpse into the life skateboarding stoic Steve Olson. The 6-minute short, set to black and white for an even more poetic feel, doesn't really focus on anything stellar. In fact it emphasis the focuses on the non-moments, the candid snapshots of Olson's American living--cigarettes, motorcycles, driving and skateboarding with friends. Welcome to your first-hand look at the anti-hero that is Mr. Olson.

In what looks like a scene right out of Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey or something even more futuristic and stellar, Norwegian architecture firm Cebra Studio has proposed the construction of the Church of Valer. The South-Eastern town lost its old church due to a fire back in 2009. Cebra's proposal includes a cross-shaped exterior and a massive wide-spaced, wooden interior. It'll be interesting to see if the project will take off and be adopted. The renderings alone are quite impressive and out of this world.

Parisian artist JR is world renowned for his gigantic photo prints. He has recently dedicated his time to the discovery of old lithograph machines, the kind used by Picasso, to help "print" his work. The following is a video about the impressive press that he's decided to work with and how the setting adds an almost magical and vintage touch to his otherwise modern application of photography.
