00 - Introduction

In 2003 I wrote a Matrix fanfic called “Agents”. In it, a hacker named Stef gets a meeting with Morpheus and co…who promptly GTFO when Smith show up, leaving Stef to get killed/interrogated/bugged by the agents. Stef runs, but is caught (~30 seconds later) by Smith, who drags her in for a very familiar conversation.

Ok, I do apologise for...yanno, lack of content and stuff. I may do a "state of Stormy" address on the weekend, just to give you a better picture. RC isn't going away, I do still want to write, but...real life is imposing on my life to an unforgiveable degree. Thus, I'm not writing - the only things I've written in forever are the two posts from the beginning of April, and now this scratch.

[Scratch is a term I use for first draft material, and because it sounds drug-ish, and you guys really are junkies for RC material :P].

Basic context for this: Not sure if it's the next book or the one after, but Stef and Curt go on a date (it's the "Sturt date-sex-science romp!" option on the left there) - they've done interesting stuff, they are now at [majorly cool and geeky location] and have the place to themselves for the night, for geeking, sexytiem, or whatever.

And let the angst begin...

(Also, I'm totally willing to discuss this scene, the content and context further, but I thought I'd show it off first, and then we can take it to the comments. ^_^).

Nelson rubbed a hand over his eyes wearily as he followed a guardian through a maze of hallways peppered with security checkpoints. Security cameras, both regular and infrared, recored his every move from several different angles. He was familiar with the security protocols, of course. He'd been there so many times, he was almost starting to feel like home.

The guardian opened a heavy door to a brightly lit room which contained a table, two chairs, and a shackled, blindfolded man wearing orange prison coveralls. Nelson thanked the guardian and walked inside the room as the door closed behind him with a heavy thud. He stopped in front of the table, then reached across it and pulled the blindfold off the man's bald, tattooed head.

Jubilee rested her head against the polished wood of the conference table. After the first half hour, she'd stopped checking her watch. Patience was a virtue that had been instilled in her since childhood, but she found it very hard to be patient when the scary people in suits were deciding her fate. What was taking them so long? And what if she would get stuck there on their terms, instead of hers?

Ok, this was brought up a while ago, but I ignored it as I was going back and forth on a couple of the choices.

The default Agency uniform is black and white - however, as a One Uniform policy would lead to the tropey "men in black" look, and indeed make them harder to identify for people who need to spot them (fae) in amongst the other random business people, it was long ago decided that each Agency uniform also requires a feature colour.

Stef opened her eyes, and stared uncomprehendingly at the sky for a while. Sky of no stars. Sky of everything and nothing.

She closed her eyes and slept.

She opened her eyes, and this time the sky was full of red.

‘Get up,’ Taylor rumbled.

Magnolia looked up. The movement was sharp. Bird-like. She was far beyond her normal limits. It didn’t matter. She swallowed, and focussed on Hewitt. ‘What is it, Recruit?’

Hewitt sat in the uncomfortable chair she’d placed across from her temporary desk – a way to discourage visitors from staying too long. ‘I’m…not exactly sure, ma’am.’
