Men udviklingen har betydet, at ønsket om at skærpe sin kommunikation og sine budskaber alt for ofte ender i en opportunistisk undvigelse af svære emner. Man undgår som professionel politiker komplekse emne og potentielle “tabersager”. (…)

Alt for mange samfundsmæssige debatter præges således af en småkynisk hærskare af spindoktorer og politiske eksperter, der ikke måles på deres bidrag til den langsigtede samfundsudviklingen, men på en taktisk analyse af hvad der vil gøre sig bedst i morgendagens medier. (…)

Men den danske befolkning skal nok også kigge indad:

Måske er vi blot en nation af bondesnu forbrugere? Måske har vi bare alle mere fokus på os selv, end hvordan vi indretter et samfund til glæde for alle?

Kronikken afslutter med at foreslå større borgerinddragelse i form af f.eks. nye medier / teknologi, der allerede anvendes i mange andre sammenhænge.
