Yesterday was 24th Birthday and I don’t feel any older which is a good thing! It was an early start 7am with egg on fried bread made by my lovely partner Christine. I didn’t get many presents as I asked for money to purchase one of these a Thumbs Up CSEP-1 so today I shall order myself one! So yes I still when out to shoot street whilst I walk around my local town with Christine, their weren’t many people around as the weather wasn’t so good which Isn’t un-usual for Southport! Here’s the shots from the day:

I didn't intend to go shooting today but i had the M8 with me and a Rollei 35 (amazing little camera) I went up the my parents house as I hadn't been in a while, they had my niece Ella and were on their way to the local park to feed the ducks. Ella is obsessed with animals especially ducks! So I thought I'd go with them as a change of scenery would be nice. As soon as I got there I started to photograph that was it I new I had to go and shoot somewhere so I walked the park taking random shots and ended up walking all the way to my local town centre shooting street.

Ok so here’s the roll of Kodak Kodacolor I shot yesterday if I’m honest it’s nothing to shout home about, It’s clear that I’ve been sucked up by the use of a digital camera! I must have seriously forgotten what the hell to do with a film camera or I seriously couldn’t be arsed because that’s exactly what the results say, (Fuck this it’s a Film camera their shit now a days!) I’m so disappointed with these almost shitty results but hey you learn each time you shoot. Note to Ryan PUT DOWN THE DIGITAL CAMERA AND SHOOT SOME FILM! anyway here they are: comments are welcome please be nice…

Yesterday I received the 7th brief from SPN- “When you have to shoot; Shoot! don’t talk!”- Il Brutto, “Make a picture containing the good, the bad & the ugly” – Jens Olof Lasthein, so it’s a bit of a double whamey! of a brief my first intentions were to try and combined the two together which shouldn’t be to hard so this is the first day (12.11.2010) of shooting for the brief which I must state turned into a day of just shooting street!

P.S Did anyone notice the date was 12,11,10 ! weird or what….

Another day another street shoot, my days shooting have now become more challenging as the sun goes down earlier, I received the 6th brief from SPN "Never overlook a cliche" - Artem Zhitenev. Ok so these briefs are becoming more challenging which is great because I feel myself trying harder, research into each brief so I can get the best out of my time shooting on the brief, all thought we have seven days to shoot the brief I only have Friday, Saturday and Tuesday as the other days I work but it makes so much more fun! so the 7th brief is due tomorrow I wonder what they have in store for us!

Liverpool "Thicket of signs"

SPN #5 brief "Get lost in a thicket of signs and structures" Wolfgang Zurborn.

This brought back days of life at Southport College when I did my first 120 film project on semiotics using a Holga camera, so I had a little head start with this one I new Liverpool was the place to shoot! all thought the weather was drab like always in England I just had to get on with it and keep my lens cloth to hand. Shooting in Liverpool has made me want to document it more, I've focused on Southport so much that I suppose I got my self in a routine on my days off. So if possible I going to try and visit Liverpool on at least one of my three days off a week ! Thats a challenge in it's self......

Street Shooting with a preset...

I don't normally go mad and edit my images but for some reason today I felt that I need to give it a try, so I downloaded some presets from Preset Heaven and gave them I try. I must say I do like some of them and others I hated I mainly liked the B&W presets, as a lot of my work is b&w street photography although I did fine a really nice colour preset called Zurich Street Scene. I tried to shoot b&w on my M8 but it wasn't so nice shooting colour and converting is good enough for me but its this stage that I get frustrated as converting into b&w seems to look like thousands of grey tones! If anyone has any tips for me drop me an email on my contact page. so for knoe I think I'm going to use a preset I altered form preset heaven.

I've been messing around with Filters recently and I purchased a +10 Macro filter for £3 which isn't to bad it took me a good few shots to figure it out, as macro isn't something I do much of but I found it pretty cool these were the best three shots I managed to capture. I'm still practicing so keep your eyes Focused! (sorry for the pun).

I did a little bit of Street the other day (when am I not shooting street) and thought to my self their must be a better way to convert my images to B&W. So I search high and low on the Tinternet and came across this Markus Hartel B&W conversion tutorial, I couldn't believe it was just sitting under my nose, so I gave it a go remembering that I didn't want my images to become something their not (by that I mean completely altered in photoshop) and It worked out rather fantastical I thought so theirs the link give it a go! Oh yeah A BIG THANKS TO MARKUS HARTEL for the tutorial !!!

Tenby (Dinbych-y-Pysgod, meaning little town of the fishes or little fortress of the fish) what an amazing place, I recently visited Tenby for a five day break with my family and partner Christine. I had such a fantastic time I really don't no where to start with the blog I just wanna show you my results from shooting. my main intentions were to NOT shoot STREET and focus more on Landscapes which ended up being sunrises! I had a lot of early mornings which I didn't mine the beach was breath taking and THE BEST I've ever been to! so here's a few of my sunrise results that I captured:

so that's the sunrises, I kept saying sunsets all week it was making Chrissy go crazy correcting me all the time! ok so now for the Landscapes:

as you can see I visited Carew Castle and Tidal Mill

which was magnificent it has a history of 2000 years. I enjoyed Tenby so much the people were really friendly and polite even first thing in the morning they would talk and say good morning, not like people in Southport that don't function until 12pm this is probably why they don't understand how to say good morning ! Their was so much to do and now I realise why I've wanted to visit Tenby since I was young it has a great history about itself read more on wikipedia. I have journal notes that I might type up on my blog so watch this Blog

Me and Christine (my Partner) have started to go for walks at night it's meant to be some sort of health thing if you do at least 1hour a day it can help improve you health! anyway as I was out walking the prom I thought I may as well take my camera and have a go at night photography, How hard can it be I thought! Ok It's not the easiest as I found out it took me ages to get a good balance between f-stop and shutter but it finally worked. I found it so much better and easier with my Leica M8 I thought I'd share my M8 results my Canon results aren't even worthy of being seen....

I was out with my M8 loaded with my 50mm summarit-m on a lovely sunny day in Southport well I usually am, capturing the essence of the day. Earlier that day I was shooting a project called ? (I will reveal in time) this really made me see what a beautiful place Southport really is. I thought I had photographed everything maybe I had but had I thought about what exactly it was I was photographing........ My answer was NO I was just photographing because its was my home town BUT it's more than that isn't it !

I was still really unsure why I was doing what I was but I continued on with photographing Southport as I knew I loved to do it, Alistair Francis a really good friend of mine came down to visit. I hadn't seen him for a couple of months, We went for a strowl (that's sounds a little loving) around Southport and caught up with things, I got on to my slight irritation on worrying all the time. Which some how got me to the point of hopefully shooting urban landscapes on 120 Film using a Rolleiflex TLR camera! Why! I think it's time for a new brief, a new focus. Although I'll continue on my Southport Street work this may help me direct my photography...

Another day out and about shooting my local town, I decided to use my 50mm Summarit-M for a change. But for the last few days I have been questioning myself and my photography, What is it ? and Why am I doing what I'm doing ? Because I'm so passionate about my street photography sometimes I feel that I don't focus as good as I should be but instead I'm worrying about things that I really don't need to... I have in personal opinion one of the BEST cameras in the world to date, I had full control of what images I captured so why am I worrying? I no because I continually think about shooting other things whilst I'm shooting another, I try to shoot Street, Lanscape, Abstract etc.. All at once Whilst I'm out why do I do this because I'm Photographically obsessed and I don't want to miss a single thing. A spoke with a friend and he said "Focus yourself on one thing at a time don't worry about other things that are happening if your thinking street then do street, if your thinking Landscape then do Landscape at the end of the day you only have two eyes and one viewfinder"
