I just got off the plane from Napa, it's 1am and I'm going to bed! I'll catch up with you very soon! Have a super day!

Persevere

I hope you had a chance to visit www.TheBetterMom.com yesterday and read my guest post. It was exciting to share a deep piece of my heart with all of you. Thank you for your encouraging words back to me and I pray them over you and your families!

I'm in Napa this week- an ultimate spot for food and wine! I normally have a mind set of packing on few pounds each time I'm here, but am in a good place and not gonna undue the hard work I've put in. I've prayed each morning, focused on God's word to refresh me, renew my strength and protect me. I'm so thankful for a God who joyfully carries my burdens and wants us to ask Him each day to do so.

I brought my Tracy Anderson video (strength only) and my 3 lb weights. Our friends from Florida are staying with us and doing the cardio workout in the living room isn't an option. I'll be going for a short run this morning to supplement and finish off with the DVD (in my bedroom).

Yesterday I ate well, small portions, although I went a little overboard on chips and guacamole at dinner. I didn't have dessert and was proud of myself. Honestly, I didn't even crave it. I'm staying strong because I'm feeling good and want to keep moving a forward direction. I hope you are too.

Today's encouragement comes from Hebrews 10:23-25

And let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.

Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage

one another-and all the more as you see the Day
approaching.

Persevere.

It's what God calls us to do. Hold on to His hope, that He can transform us within, and because of our self-discipline by the power of the holy spirit, it will be reflected on the inside and outside.

Let it become a habit to meet together and spur one another on! Meet with your friend, your husband, your children, your accountability partner, your online support bloggers so that we can encourage each other to stay faithful, true and committed. Grab your partner and go workout. Having a buddy makes all the difference- isn't it cool to see God encourage us to do that? Stay in communion with one another, especially when it comes to God's word. Are you in a small bible study group? If not, I urge you to find one- in person is best, but online will work!

And lastly... (what I needed to hear most this morning)

So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.

You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God,

you will receive what he has promised. (Hebrews 10:35-36)

I missed blogging the past few days because I was working and well... a little emotionally tired. People can be brutal.

I'm bummed to report that I missed my workouts on Thursday and Friday of last week. But I did keep my meals clean and portions small. I've been really proud of myself for not snacking during the day and in the evening-which is always the hardest time for me. Have I shared my love of Nutella with you?! I didn't lose any weight this week, but didn't gain any either! I'm happy with that result because even though the scale didn't go down, my body feels tighter and I can see that my stomach is flatter. Yippee! I definitely attribute a flatter stomach not only to doing the core exercises on Tracy's video, but especially to the foods I've been eating. I see that to be the biggest result producer.

I wanted to show you the size of my salad and grilled fish as it came to the table for lunch. It was a large plate and the salad was quite high & dense although you can't tell in this pic.

This is how much I ate. I normally would have eaten a little more fish (I was full) and ate 3/4 of my salad. Again, this picture doesn't reflect the height and density of the salad well, but you get the picture. I also drank a kale veggie juice before my food arrived which filled me up. This gives you an idea of eating smaller portions throughout the day instead of a big meal. I took the rest home for that 4pm snack.

I worked out Saturday morning- yes, I did the cardio video too, and I'm getting used to it! I'm over feeling silly, and learning to get into the moves. It makes a difference when you know them enough not to feel self conscious about doing them and can then be purposeful about each one. I also decided to turn her music off and turn on my own playlist. (The only bummer is if I do it early in the morning and my household is still sleeping, I have to use headphones. We live in a modest 1600 sq ft home, so I don't have any extra rooms to designate for exercise. The hardwood living room floor it is!) Playing music I like definitely makes it more fun and time goes by faster! I will tell you as I've continued to do the videos, they are getting harder even though I'm doing the same thing. I thought the first day was a breeze, now I'm barely getting through them! My muscles are sore, and I see how her method is working. I like it.

I also went to my cousin's wedding Saturday night and got in another major workout! If you didn't already know, I'm a wedding dancer. Seriously. I feel most comfortable dancing at weddings, love the music and if my extended family is there like aunts, uncles and cousins, sisters, mom and dad..... I'm a wild woman!! A family wedding is my ULTIMATE DANCE NIGHT! I'm not kidding. I danced for over an hour straight, non-stop and I'm talking jumping up and down, kicking, flailing, bouncing, you name it! I actually took all my own moves and incorporated Tracy's moves and totally went for it. It was the craziest, best night of dancing and all I could think of was that I just got in the best 2nd workout of the day! And I realized that's how Tracy wants us to do her video. And since I had such a great 2nd workout, you know I ate a whole piece of wedding cake. I love dessert, what can I say?

I want to encourage you to start your morning in prayer. I know the secret to my success is offering up my prayers and petitions to the Lord each day. I ask Him to help me make good decisions, nudge me through the Holy Spirit to stay on track, exercise willpower, and stay motivated. My desire for craving sweets and wanting to overeat or eat poorly have really decreased the last few weeks. And I know those results are through the power of prayer. The hardest part is just to start. Once you start feeling even a slight improvement, it gives you the motivation to keep going. So keep going! Start your day off right and read the Word. That's how you connect to God.

I started with the cardio as she says to and it made the toning DVD so much tougher! I'm sore in every place on my body- but it feels tight and good. I've gotta hand it to Tracy, that if I feel this kind of overall difference in 2 days, I can't wait to see what it's gonna look like in 2 weeks!

I haven't started following her eating plan yet. I'd like to try. It just takes a lot of prep work, and I haven't had the chance to go to the grocery store, prep and make all the foods. But I'm continuing to make smart choices with my foods each day and eat smaller portions. Despite having gone to a fast food restaurant yesterday (which I'll rarely eat fast food), I ordered a grilled chicken salad, skipped the croutons and ate it with just a tablespoon or so of balsamic dressing. And then I ordered a HUGE iced tea, unsweetened. Dinner was sautéed broccoli, carrots, pea pods and grilled chicken. I drank my favorite hot (and iced) decaf tea from The Good Earth.

Today, my encouragement to you is Psalm 32: I've italicized the part I want you to focus on in your relationship to God and food.

And here's what I thought:

I was supposed to start with the dance cardio session, but did the sculpting session first. Which I LOVED. 30 minutes of that? 6 days a week? NO PROBLEM! It was awesome. And with her DVDs you change the sculpting session every 10 days so it doesn't get old. I love that!

Then I put in the cardio disk. Have I told you how much I don't like cardio?! Cause I don't and this was no exception. I gotta admit and felt super silly "dancing" in my living room. I don't know if it's really dancing as much as jumping up and down and kicking your feet. Maybe that is dancing? After 5 minutes I didn't know how I was going to last for another 25. Not because it was so hard, but because it was boring. The arches on my feet hurt the whole time- I may need to wear more supportive shoes and not my running shoes. But I did sweat and I could definitely feel it working muscles I don't normally move; which was the point.

When she said, "Your in the home stretch" I basically stood there and watched her finish the last 5 minutes. I was over it. 6 days a week of this? Ummmm......

All this to say... I'm going to give it a go! I'll definitely invest 30 days and commit to it. I don't know that I'll be keeping up with the cardio DVD 6 days a week, but may do it 3 days a week and mix it up with running. Did I tell you I signed up for a Spartan race in December?! Beyond exciting! My results may take longer, but hey, we're also supposed to enjoy exercising and how we spend our time each day. I think if there is a type of exercise you prefer over another, then do it. As long as your moving and keep that heart rate up!

So, I'm in. 30 days. I wrote down my starting measurements. Write down yours too! Even if you're not doing the videos, just so you know your progress in 30 days. Bust, biceps, waist (at belly button), hips and thighs and your weight. Remember to measure around the fullest part of those areas.

Tracy tells you to remeasure every 10 days, so I'll let you know if there's any difference then. My guess is I won't see any results before 2 weeks.

Happy working out!

I took it as a sign to order ;)

Actually, I was debating whether to get the DVDs and work out at home or renew my gym membership and continue to use a personal trainer. I like both methods and changing it up works for me. Since I need to sign a new gym contract, I figured this was a good time to wait on that, and try the DVDs for a few months. If I love them, it will only save me money in the long run. And if I don't, I'll pass them along to friends and go back to the gym. So, sorry for the last minute changes from what I told you I was going to do last week. But this could actually be more fun to blog about since we can do it together! Is anyone already doing Tracy Anderson's Method?

My friend Clare at www.peak313.com is a fitness guru! She posted an awesome article at my online magazine Roo that gives you the low down on how to get a personal trainer workout in the comfort of your own home. She shares her favorite FREE sites as well as top DVDs. Check out the article here: http://www.roomag.com/how-to-get-a-personal-trainer-workout-in-the-comfort-of-your-home/

Hopefully, I'll start these today! I actually had to go to a physical therapist yesterday because I'm experiencing some problems in my neck and back- which we think is all muscle related and not nervous system related. So, I've really been taking it easy and that's why I haven't been blogging about my workouts. They've been non-existent really except walking. But, i'm missing them and hoping to get back into it without too much pain.

I'm off to take those starting measurements. If Tracy is right, I'll be toning muscles I never knew I had and getting leaner than I ever knew was possible. ;) hehe

I Want To Be An Olympian!

If you don't have the Olympics on your brain... well, I just don't know what to say. I LOVE the Olympics and it's been one of my favorite things to watch since I was a little girl. Not because I've aspired to be a professional athlete, but because these men and women competing are THE BEST OF THE BEST. How cool is that?! This is their shot at breaking a world record, an Olympic record and holding a title that no one else in the world can hold for a 4 year period.. and possibly more. The concept at being the best excites me, amazes me and sometimes leaves me speechless.

You can only imagine how excited I was when Val was asked to be on the Russian Hockey Team for the 1998 Nagano and 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Games. I'm telling you, I screamed louder and was more excited about it than he was! I felt like it was my shot at being there and his medals were my medals. Val won Silver in Japan and Bronze in U.S. (both of which I wore on the plane rides home because... 1.) I was SUPER beyond excited and proud to have in my possession a real Olympic medal. 2.) It was REALLY fun to have people think that I won the medal. 3.) Val wouldn't wear the medal because they weren't gold. Sigh... Always the competitor! But we know that unless it's an actual race, coming in any other place other than 1st does NOT make you a "loser" despite my husband's competitive spirit. I think that being a participant is pretty awesome, regardless of the standings.

Here I am with Val and Maks (who was just 3 weeks old). Look closely for the bronze medal around Val's neck!

We can't all be Olympians, but we can participate in the games of life. I watched our U.S. Women's Gymnastic team last night and was in awe of what they could do. And no, I didn't grow a sudden love for gymnastics because I was on show about it. I've always loved watching the sport and seeing their dedication, commitment, endurance, strength: both mentally and physically, and heart gives me chills. No, I can't walk and flip on a 4 inch beam or swing from 2 bars let alone kip up on one. But I can exhibit the same kind of dedication, endurance, strength and commitment in my life. Each one of us can be an Olympian in our own right. We can sacrifice and strengthen our resistant muscles to say "No" to junky foods and to get up and get out to work out every day.

Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

Did you catch the interview with Gabby Douglas last night after she clinched her spot to compete in the All-Around Finals? They asked her how she mentally prepared and said she gives it to God and meditates on scripture!!!! This girl gave the glory to God boldly and I just about whooped and hollered on my couch! Gabby is a Christian and I was overjoyed at watching her share her testimony at her church days before London. Watch it here and be encouraged by this 15 year old! http://vimeo.com/45535275

So, how is your Olympic spirit doing? If you've got God on your side, you're in the games! Let's take a look at these athletes and learn from them that with perseverance, endurance and a willingness to learn and try new things, we can mold and shape our bodies into the one we would like to see it become.

I'll be out of town for my dear friend's wedding. Not too much to blog about this morning.
I'm still waiting for my Tracy Anderson DVDs to arrive and am looking forward to toning up these arms of mine.=!

Eating... well, it's been good but I have 5 out to dinner evening in a row. Last night a made OK choices while at a birthday party (Mexican food, my favorite) and did eat the WHOLE piece of chocolate cake. That's fine, I just can't eat a WHOLE piece of cake at tonight's wedding or tomorrow's BBQ. Moderation is the key. I'll be keeping my portions small, because we know that everything is permissible, we just have to decide if it is beneficial for us.

Have a fantastic weekend! I know I will.

Excuses Are For Losers

The title of this post is my husband's favorite phrase. Seriously, he uses it all the time. It doesn't always go over so well with the other parents when Val's coaching the boys' hockey teams. Maybe it gives you some insight into the kind of man I'm married to. ;)

I'll just be straight up honest. I was going to post a super cute video of us working out as a family from yesterday morning. I have fun snippets from my camera phone of Val explaining the workout we were going to do for the day and the kids demonstrating the exercises. I guess I should tell you too that Val trains our 3 kids each summer starting in late July and all of August to get them back up to speed and ready for hockey and tennis. We've worked out as a family for years, and since coming back from our European vacation, workouts went into full force for Val and the kids last week too.

But only 5 minutes into our run, I got irritated at something Val said to me (which was a miscommunication) and I bailed. I knew I wouldn't work out to the best of my ability and well... excuses are for losers. So I decided to walk home. It took an hour and it was beautiful looking at the ocean and walking up and down the hills. I listened to one of my favorite groups Selah which totally cooled off my emotions. Once Val and the kids got home, we immediately talked it over and were all good. :) Needless to say... no cute video, but I did walk 3.8 miles and it was a good start to getting back into exercising.

I'm reading Hebrews and this popped off the page for me to share with you today: Heb. 3:7-8

So, as the Holy Spirit says:

"Today, if you hear his voice,

do not harden your hearts

as you did in the rebellion,

during the time of testing in the desert, "

You see, the Israelites weren't able to enter into His rest because they didn't heed God's voice and disobeyed. They were stubborn and over time their hearts were hardened and they missed out!

What if we hear the voice of the holy spirit nudge us today and we push it aside? And again, and again, and again? That's most likely how we got in our cycle of weight gain in the first place. Casting off the little voice that says... "Put down the fork, you're satisfied. Grab an apple instead of the chips. Stop grabbing a piece of candy just cause it's sitting on someone's desk. You're going out to dinner with friends in 3 days, save your dessert night for then instead of having it every night" will eventually cause you to stop hearing it. And you'll never enter into a place of rest with your body. God has an abundance of promises and blessings waiting for you when you dive into his word and listen to his voice. It doesn't mean it will be easy or that changes won't have to be made. They will! Listen to his voice today because EXCUSES ARE FOR LOSERS. And I say that in total love!! Can you feel it?! :)

I had to work early in the am on a reshoot for a movie I filmed 4 years ago! I know, it's a crazy business and sometimes movies will sit on a shelf unfinished because something about it wasn't quite right. Filmmakers then get busy working on other projects and well... it can take 4 years to get everyone together again to rewrite and reshoot! I'll keep you updated on its release date once I know.

Today, week 1 is finished! I'm definitely feeling a whole lot better than I did 7 days ago and I'm down 5 pounds. :) I expected that since the first 5 days I was on a juice cleanse. Of course I'd lose weight not eating solids and giving my body a detox. It was the jumpstart I was looking for and helped me eat clean meals the last two days without wanting junky foods. I also know a few of those pounds may creep back on, but praying that I'll continue to make good and healthy choices, not allowing my "cravings" to get the best of me. I must exercise my resistance muscle to saying "no". Especially since it's that wonderful time of the month! :) Chocolate...can you hear me calling your name?!

Yesterday I drank a 12 oz fruit smoothy for breakfast, had a small turkey salad with tomato, cucumbers and peppers created out of 4 subway sandwiches (which they provided on set for lunch). I basically scrapped the bread and cheese, snacked on 2 apples, a banana, a handful of almonds and dinner... well, time got the best of me. I know, not very healthy to skip it, I didn't intend to, but worked until 7pm, had to pick up Natasha an hour away at 8 and got home at 9. We stopped for frozen yogurt on the way home and I got a small with almonds on top. I munched on a handful of strawberries Val cut up and stored in the fridge and I hit my pillow by 9:30.

I haven't really worked out this week, but it starts this morning. I'm off with Val and the kids to run on the beach and do some exercises. I'll fill you in tomorrow. Also, after talking to several girlfriends, I was convinced to order Tracy Anderson's Metamorphosis workout videos. I can't wait to get them this week! Maybe you want to start them together with me?

Have an awesome day! Stay strong, stay in the word of God and make good choices!

What's the difference?

My last day of the juice cleanse. Whoo HOO! Actually, not really because I enjoyed it! It was kind of nice not having to think about food all day long and what my next meal was going to be. I'm not super excited to dive into regular foods, only because I feel so clean! My body is rid of most refined sugars (which is my biggest challenge) that I ate over vacation. I'm kind of in the zone, and that's exactly what I was hoping a juice cleanse would do. It not only helped me clean out my system and remove my sugar cravings, but gave me a jump start into a desire to continue on my normal healthy living routine and eat clean foods and smaller portions.

I wanted to mention, because it came up on the comments in yesterday's post, that what I'm doing as a juice cleanse, is not the same as fasting. Yes, the dietary restrictions may look the same, but fasting goes along with continuous prayer for a specific need. While I'm spending time with the Lord every morning, praying and reading my bible, I want to be clear that I'm not fasting about losing weight. In fact, after doing Beth Moore's study on Daniel several years ago, I've understood that fasting should never be about weightless. Please don't get the two confused or put one in place of the other.

If I'm fasting, which my husband and I prayerfully have done together at times, we are seeking God's counsel for a very specific need. While fasts can be done in a variety of ways like fasting just one meal a day or just fasting specific foods and drinks, our fasts have eliminated everything but water. Again, this should NEVER have anything to do with weightless or be done for that reason. Biblical fasting is to seek God's face, to hear His voice clearly and to use the hunger cries as a reminder to continually pray. We've fasted over parenting issues, we've fasted over our son's health when he was 4 years old and had multiple surgeries and I've fasted as a wife when I've needed extra counsel from the Lord.

My juice cleanse this week, was not fasting. I was not in prayerful attention over a specific need even though I've sought the Lord each day. And I wasn't fasting about losing weight. The juice cleanse was just that- a cleanse to rid my body of all the junk I put in it over vacation. But I will tell you, that while I wasn't consumed with the thoughts of food this week, it did allow me to reflect more on the bigger things in life and hear God's voice more clearly on those subjects.

OK, I'm off to tape a segment on Marie Osmand's new talk show, coming to Hallmark Channel very soon! I'll let you know the details when I get them. I'll say HI to her from you. hehe ;) I'm looking forward to seeing Bugsy- the shaggy dog I worked with on my latest movie called "Puppy Love". He'll be doing the interview with me! I'll take a pic and share tomorrow or share on my Twitter feed.

Have a fabulous day- and remember to do what is good! Keep making healthy decisions, one choice at a time. Oh- and don't forget about working out or get walking!! Now that my cleanse is over, I'll be sharing my exercise plan. :)

Seek God

I've done two 3 days juice cleanses before. This is my first 5 day. It's definitely been easier this time around for a few reasons, I believe. I still got a late afternoon headache on day 3, and felt a little weaker than usual on day 4, but overall, my spirt and body feel tremendous. The key to a cleanse is to drink a lot of water during the day. I tend to get headaches easily when I don't eat or drink enough, and this has been no exception. I've reminded myself to carry around a water bottle while I'm out and stopped for an iced tea a few times (definitely not on the plan b/c of the caffeine, but I needed it at the time). Yesterday during dinner, I ate 4 olives and a date we picked up from the farmers market that morning. I know... not a big deal, but just recording every detail for you. :)

My stomach is much flatter than it was a week ago and it's definitely "shrunk". By that I mean I can't push out my stomach to make myself look 4 months pregnant if I tried. Which also means that when I reintroduce solid foods, I will naturally eat smaller portions because my stomach will be full faster. In Reshaping It All, I talk about eating until your satisfied, not full. After you've eaten half your meal, pause and ask yourself if you're satisfied. If you are, wrap up the other half for later, or bring it home for one of your family members to munch on as a snack. Most of the time, we'll see the portion of food on our plate and eat it without considering if we really need that much. You'll be surprised at how much less you'll eat by asking yourself when you're satisfied, not full and listening to your body. Let me know how that works for you!

Aside from having done a cleanse before and knowing what to expect, I believe a biggest reason this cleanse has been so good this time around is because I've been in the right frame of mind and because I feel connected to and am seeking God on my journey. I've invited God each and every morning to join me and help me make good decisions minute by minute. I've been prayerful and diligent to get together with Him each morning and talk with Him. He's encouraged me, comforted me, held me, given me hope, given me strength, given me patience, given me endurance, given me passion, and sustained me. Obviously, I'm not just talking about this through the cleanse, but in life. I can't do one aspect of life without Him because when I try, I either fail, or am left so empty I don't understand where I went wrong. "Oh, I forgot to bring God on this journey". Or, "oh, I forgot to ask God about whether or not its something He wants for my life". And with every prayer, I must follow up by reading the word of God. If I don't, I'm simply going on my own gut feelings as to what I think God wants me to do. Do you ever just take things as a sign? Oh, I prayed about that... and isn't it a coincidence that this just happened? It must be God answering! Um.... it certainly could be, but the bible gives us instruction, and if our whimsy feelings don't coincide with the written word of God, it safe to say, it's not an answer from God.

So prayerfully offer up EVERYTHING to God. Seek His face in your journey. But don't neglect to read your bible every day. His words will give you strength and endurance for the road ahead of you. The holy spirit will nudge you on those little decisions you're making that could be better. Be eager to do what is good.

If you feel silly about asking God to help you lose weight or these last 10 pounds, here's a prayer that might be helpful. Talk to God about something like this:

Heavenly Father,

It feels a little silly or even vain to be asking you to help me lose weight. I know that you love me no matter what size I am or what the number is on the scale, but Lord, I don't feel as good and as healthy as I'd like to be. My body is a holy temple, built for you to dwell in. I want to honor that. I want my body to feel good and I want to display a self-controlled life on the outside as well as the inside. With the power of the holy spirit who lives in me, help me to exercise self-control today. Nudge me to say no to the foods that aren't beneficial to me. Encourage me to do the work it takes to get this weight off. I want to feel like the beautiful women you created me to be on the inside and outside. Allow me to hear your spirit today and talk to me when I'm faced with a difficult decision. Even if that decision is between eating a few cookies or eating a peach instead. Let me see your glory and find the miracles in the self control you give me today. Amen.

Juicing Just Got Better!

Day 2 of my juice was relatively eventless. I drank lots of water in between my juices every 2 hours so I wouldn't get dehydrated or feel empty. I did get a small headache around 4pm, which is kind of normal (for me at least). Usually the first 3 days my body feels the lack of sugars and reacts. I'm looking forward to completing day 3 to be honest- it's the hump. Then, it'll feel like a breeze.

With all the juice talk in the house, Val, who has never done a cleanse, but likes fresh green and fruit juices caught a Montel Williams infomercial about a juicer. It looked pretty awesome and like something we'd use at home a lot. Considering how often we shop at Whole Foods and Pressed Juicery, the investment seemed well worth it to be able to juice at home. After researching online reviews, I read repeatedly that the best blenders/juicers on the market are Vitamix and Blendtec. They are expensive so I was thinking of my approach to talk Val into buying one of these babies.

Later that afternoon, Val and the boys came home from Costco and look what they brought in!!

The boys were SO excited to tell me they watched the lady at Costco for an hour make several different recipes in the blender which included Tortilla Soup and Popeye Ice Cream (yes, it's with spinach!). They told me about all the different ways we could use it, how easy and practical it was and that they couldn't wait to start juicing and making smoothies! They also said that papa (that's what they call Val) would let them eat ice cream for breakfast! (One of the recipes uses low fat yogurt and veggies that end up being tasteless and unseen so that there is a lot of nutritional value.)

I'm super excited about our new purchase. I also hope (after reading some of your comments) that this doesn't discourage anyone who isn't able to afford a blender. Losing weight isn't about the products and services we have. It's about making life long commitments to making good decisions and improving our health. I feel blessed that we're able to afford some luxuries that make life a little easier, but please know that they aren't necessary. I LOVE that so many of you reading this blog are answering each others questions and offering suggestions that will help each of you on your journey. And just as a reminder, this little blog of mine isn't a step-by-step follow-along program. I'm simply blogging about what I'm doing and what works for me, but that doesn't mean its the right path for you. I do know that because we are all in this together, your answers and encouragement to one another are vitally important, so keep them coming!

Remember, you have a choice with every decision you make. Make a good choice today, even with the small ones. The accumulation of small decisions carries us farther than one decision ever will. (pg. 82 of Reshaping It All). That's how we create new habits!

As the book of Titus teaches us, be eager to do what is good. :)

Phew. Praise God for his generous mercies as I started my day off and gave everything over to him in prayer. My energy was pretty good throughout the day. I hit a lull (and jet lag around 5pm). I managed to stay awake until 9:30pm and slept until 5:30am. I think by tomorrow I'll feel adjusted to L.A. time again.

I didn't exercise. It's definitely harder to do while doing a cleanse simply because you don't have as much energy. I don't want to risk getting sick or burning out early from all the traveling, so I will probably only walk or do very low impact exercises for the next 4 days. Val and I did take the kids to the beach in the afternoon and Natasha and I took a 30 minute walk down the beach path. We had a sweet time together- mostly me explaining that I don't have it out for her and yes, there are other parents who make the kinds of rules that we do. Apparently, I'm the world's worst mom right now ;) Thankfully, I have lots of support and love reading my mom-friendly blogs to encourage me through these teenage years with my daughter. A few of my favorites are www.thebettermom.com and www.septembermccarthy.com .

Today, I wanted to chat about formulating a plan- which is found in Chapter 4 of Reshaping It All. As I pondered on the flight home, I knew that I'd have some decisions to make before I started losing a few pounds. It's so important that we don't just decide to do something and jump in without much thought. It only sets us up to fail more easily. I knew I wanted to start off with a cleanse, so that was set, but after that? What changes would I make in my diet? What exercises would I do and what would that look like during my week? When things are organized and on schedule, the likelihood of success is increased.

I'm already a healthy eater. I won't have to adjust that too much, just get back on track. I'll go into that in the days to come. What my biggest decision will be is the kind of exercise I'll do. I love changing it up. Should I try a new fitness video? Should I run and lift weights? Go back to pilates? Try spinning again? I love the thought of ALL of these and I'm sure I'll be doing each of them- just not at the same time! That's what great about seasons. If the weather is nice during the summer, exercise outdoors. When it gets cold, hit the gym. Your body will also thank you for changing up your exercise routine and I'll bet you'll see the pounds drop when you do.

For now, I've decided to continue running outdoors while the weather is nice and hit the gym to lift weights with a trainer. I'm still not all that comfortable in the weight area of the gym on my own- even though I've been lifting for over a year now. Sometimes I'll follow Val, but his routine isn't specific enough for me- as a woman. I decided a trainer for this area of expertise was worth it. I'm also going to incorporate pilates twice a week. I take group classes so it's less expensive. It's killer on your core and helps your posture SO much. I am definitely a strength girl vs. a cardio girl. I love using my muscles so much more than just sweating it out by running, spinning or on an elliptical machine. But a combination of both is the best. Also, when you build muscle, it increases the rate at which your body metabolizes and helps you burn faster. The number on the scale may not decrease as much since muscle weighs more than fat, so don't get discouraged.

Formulate your plan and let's share with each other what's working for us! I love reading your comments.

P.S. Check out my friend Summer's blog post today about all the changes she's making for her family regarding food. It's SUPER inspiring!
I even had a conference call about the revamp of my personal website and a chat with my managers. Life just keeps on rolling no matter how tired you are!

I've never really blogged before.... so bare with me. I may write random and detailed accounts of things that don't really relate to losing 10 pounds. And some days I may give you more information than you wanted to know about my eating habits! I'm just going to have fun here at www.reshapingitall.com and hope you will too.

I wanted to start off by addressing a few things. I want you to know that I'm not writing this as a "celebrity". I'm not getting paid to promote any products. I'm simply writing this blog as a mom and wife who's job is being actress (which often times make me more aware of my body). I'm not blogging about losing weight to become skinny or skinnier. In fact, I'm a big advocate for being FIT. I love weight training and will take muscles over skinny any day. (And that's not put down anyone who is skinny by nature.) I've just put on a few pounds over that last year and want to get back to my normal weight range which typically fluctuates 2-4 pounds.

With that being said...I only have 7 pounds to lose according to my scale at home. To be honest (which I only will be honest with you), I weighed myself a few days ago in Switzerland at the end of our vacation and was up exactly 10 pounds from my normal weight. I knew some of those pounds were vacation pounds- which I expected to put on, HAPPILY! I also knew that the first few pounds would shed quickly just by being back at home and in my normal routine. A few days of clean-er eating, I'm down a few already. For instance, on the plane rides home, I skipped the desert, drank only water, took the skin off the chicken and just ate the side salad and veggies, not the grits. Yes, they served grits.

To start the process, I decided to do a 5 day juice cleanse. I know people have varying opinions about juice cleanses.... I happen to like them. It's not a fast, but a cleanse. I ate my way through Europe, literally. I ate my weight in pasta, cheese, gelato, bread and wine. Those are things I typically reserve for occasions or in major moderation, but for the last 3 weeks, I kind of went for it and enjoyed every bite! To get myself back on track, doing a juice cleanse will help get rid of all the toxins and sugars I've accumulated and help my body adjust to normal healthy eating habits.

Here's where I get my juice cleanse from. www.pressedjuicery.com If you're up for it, check your local area for a juicery. If you have a Whole Foods nearby, they juice too! Or, juice from home. Obviously, that's the cheapest route. I just don't have a juicer and needed the convenience of a service. If you check out Pressed Juicery's website, I'm sure it will satisfy your juice cleanse questions WAY better than I ever could. And because I know you'll ask... I'm doing cleanse 2.

That's it for today! I've got another pre-interview phone call in a few minutes.

I'm not even home yet, but hanging out at the airport on my layover headed back to L.A. I've been in Europe for 3 weeks with my family and had a wonderful time. More on that later.... But I decided to blog about losing these 10 pounds I've gained over the past year. I understand that my recent 4-6 pounds is simply because of all the great food I've been enjoying in Italy, France, Switzerland and Greece which was well worth it! But even before vacation another 5 pounds crept up on me just because my portions got a little larger over time and I wasn't as conscience of all that I was eating. I hope you'll join me for some encouragement and inspiration. I'll be "Reshaping" these last 10 pounds so I can feel great and be as fit as possible. I love feeling good in my clothes and being able to run a race well. The older I get, the more I enjoy fitness challenges.
I'll be blogging my daily food intake and fitness routines. I'm not asking you to follow my plan step by step as I'm not an expert, but just come to be encouraged. Share with me what's working for you and together we can challenge and inspire one another.

Twitter Hashtag

Join in the discussion on Twitter! For all those involved we are proud of your efforts and hope that you continue to walk in good faith.

In conclusion we pray that you have been motivated to reshape areas of your life that need change. And embrace the person that you were created to be.

As a final thought, we'd like to leave you with a pinch of practicality found on page 235:

If you ware looking for ways to share you faith, one way you can start is by giving Him the glory for your health and well-being. If someone asks you, "How did you take off the weight?" Tell them you did it God's way. This great conversation starter can lead to a discussion on faith. It can also be a great way to help another woman get healthy too.

The best way to share our faith is by being a walking and living example. So roll up your sleeves, do the best you can, and live a life that compels other people to follow the Christ you love.
Many blessings to you,

Candace and Darlene

P.S. This is a salad plate, not a dinner plate, so you can get a feel for the portion. The steak was left over from the night before. I added mixed greens, sliced grape tomatoes (they're sweeter than cherry tomatoes), sliced purple grapes, chopped heirloom tomatoes, cucumber and avocado. I added a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, a drizzle of sweet balsamic and fresh ground pepper.

Here is my dinner: A palm-sized piece of baked salmon and a large side of green beans! Today we have "Famous Chopped Salad" (recipe on page 117 in my book) and home-made chicken tenders. One salad is topped with a balsamic dressing, the other is plain.

The chicken tenders are SO easy to make! Please don't buy frozen chicken fingers for your kids. Get boneless, skinless chicken breasts or tenders (some brands cut them slender for this type of cooking).

In three separate dishes fill with 2 or 3 whisked eggs, flour, and bread crumb mixture (the mixture consists of fresh bread crumbs). Take a few slices of sandwich bread or any kind of wheat bread and chop it fine in a food processor, add salt and pepper to taste, shredded parmesain cheese and italian leaf parsley, chopped fine.

Dip your chicken sliver in the flour first to coat, then the egg wash, then the bread crumb mixture. Cook in a pan with about 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil on medium heat until done.

~ Candace

_____________________________________________

You can still enter this week's giveaway!

This is it--we are closing in on 65 Days to Reshaping it All soon, and as promised in the beginning we have a special giveaway for the last hurrah!!!

Here's the Prize Package That We're Giving Away:

A copy of Reshaping it All, autographed by Candace

A choice of a t-shirt from Candace's clothing line (check them out here)

A pretty coil bound journal

A $50.00 Amazon gift certificate, provided by our sponsor, Art Bookbindery: Empowering Writers to Self Publish

A $25.00 gift certificate from The Rusted Chain

A t-shirt from Union 28

A special thank you goes out to these sponsors for this
incredible giveaway package!

How Can you Enter?

You need to do two things to enter. I’m so proud of you for hanging in there! I pray this is only the start of your new-found freedom in healthy living. I can’t wait to hear your success stories and hope you’ll post them here or on our Reshaping It All facebook page! Your stories and testimonies are encouragement and inspiration to others and that’s something we always need to hear no matter where we are in our journey.

Chapter 18 is about leaving a legacy. And while my most important legacy will be left with my children, I want to leave you all with this today…

Sometimes we just need to see the daily grind in someone else’s life. My girlfriend, who has struggled with her weight for many years came to me in desperation and in need of help.

“Can I stay with you for a few days, train with you and see what you and your family eat each day? I need to change my patterns and I need a major kick start.”

As I would with any friend in need, I answered, “Welcome to Bure Boot Camp.”

The funny thing was, she thought my life would look so different than hers on a daily basis. The Bures must have hours to devote to the gym and plenty of time to grocery shop and prepare each healthy meal, she thought. Wrong! Instead of a "Biggest Loser" lock down, she got a front row seat into our family’s hectic and chaotic schedule. The fact was, our schedules didn’t look very different at all. She has husband, kids, and a job. All the daily chores still needed to be done in my home between meetings and appointments and that included laundry, cleaning, making meals for my family and planning time for exercise. She got to experience firsthand that you have to CHOOSE to exercise and eat right in order to see the results in your life. And yes, it can be done. It might not be easy, but it is possible.

Over the next few days, I want to share with you some of meals I make for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I’ve tweeted some of these photos already (for all you Twitter followers)! Many of you ask for recipes, but the truth is, if I’m cooking, it’s because I’m following a simple recipe from a magazine or book, or watched it on the Food Network or Cooking Channel and remembered a version of it. Val cooks most of the meals in our home, not me. I’m a lousy chef and even ruined the asparagus recipe that’s in my own book! LOL. But I’ll tell you, my husband doesn’t care how mediocre my food is because he’s just happy when he gets a night off from cooking!

This is my daily grind I hope you enjoy another glimpse into the Bure kitchen.

Stay tuned over the next few days as I invite you back into my kitchen...

~ Candace

Here's what a typical grocery store trip will look like for me.

_________________________________________

Enter this week's giveaway!

It's always nice to have something to look forward to. However, if we consume our rewards too early in the day, we might give in to a feeling of deprivation. It's always nice to feel that balance when we have had a good day and can rest assured that enjoying a treat is a guilt-free snack.

Be cautious that you don't overindulge. Choose your portion beforehand and stick to your rule. Enjoy every bit, and remember that it's still going to be there tomorrow. (Reshaping it All, page 210)

And a wise quote from C.S. Lewis:

A silly idea is current that good people do not know what temptation means. This is an obvious lie. Only those who try to resist temptation know how strong it is... A man who gives in to temptation after five minutes simply does not know what it would have been like an hour later. That is why bad people, in one sense, know very little about badness. They have lived a sheltered life by always giving in. ~ C.S. Lewis

_____________________________________________

Enter this week's giveaway!
