We were recently called out to a property in the area of Wynnum/ Manly, Brisbane area and were asked to look at a home where the termite physical barrier had been covered by concrete, and unfortunately in some areas the v joint into the render wasn’t  present. This was on a house that was less than 7 years old.

So why is this a problem?  A physical barrier relies on a clear visual inspection zone around the entire house and works on the principle that it stops concealed entry and forces termites up the outside of the house to gain entry.

Having the v joint covered can cause many issues with warranties and leave you out in the open if termites do find a way in to your house.

It is important for home owners to always make sure that gardens and concrete are kept 40mm – 75mm below the bottom v joint.  Being proactive with this will reduce your overall risk.

Termite Warranty Inspections

Warranties can be one of the most impacting part of helping the decision on what company you will go with.  A standard warrant for any termite treatments that requires chemicals including Termidor of Biflex is 5 years.  Chemical manufacturers and suppliers have a 5 year warranty on their chemicals as after this period chemicals will break down in the soil.  If a company can offer longer than a five year warranty, tread with caution.  Due to the breakdown of chemicals I struggle to believe that a company can stand by a warranty after this period and have unfortunately seen companies using escape clauses to wriggle out of there obligations.
