Resume cover letters can make or break your application as it highlights all your best assets and skills and make you part of the shortlist and worth calling in for an interview.

It is considered proper business etiquette to attach a cover letter to your resume even if the employer or organization accepting applicants for a certain position does not require or need one.
Resume cover letter examples are everywhere online. There are cover letter samples for sales and marketing, internship, teacher, student, accounting, education, nursing, IT, legal, business, technical, engineering, paralegal, entry work, social work, administrative assistants; regardless of the position you are applying for, any resume cover letter example would show you that it is comprised of four major sections. These are the header, introduction, body of the letter and the closing. The header contains the date the cover letter was written and the information on the recipient, including his or her contact information and complete address, and the salutation, "Dear Sir.". The introduction briefly states how the applicant found out about the specific job opening and the specific position he is applying for. You can start with, "I am ____, an engineering graduate from the University of ____," or "I have seen through our bulletin boards in campus that your company is in need of mechanical engineers, I would like to apply for the position of____." The body of the letter contains the skills, the experiences and educational background of the applicant. The purpose of this section is to impress and make a good first impression on the employer or reader of the cover letter. "I have recently graduated with the degree in ____," or "I am recently the general manager for ____." Then the last section is the closing. Here you tell the reader your next steps in the application process ? if you will be calling them back or if you will just be waiting for their call. You can say, "I will be waiting for your kind response," or "I will contact you within this week to follow up on the status of my application." This section also contains the signature line and information about yourself including complete name, complete address and contact information ? you may opt to include your email address.

Here are some tips on how to write a good cover letter. In any resume cover letter sample that you will find, you will notice that there are no typing errors, as these can give a bad impression that you did not prepare well enough. You should do a background research on the company prior to writing the cover letter so you can incorporate your knowledge of the organization, which is a good plus for you as compared to an applicant who has no idea as to what company he is applying to. And most importantly, be yourself, make sure that you sound like you in the letter.
About the Author:

For more tips on Cover Letter Writing, please visit our Resume Cover Letter Example website.

Article Source: ArticlesBase.com - Resume Cover Letter Example

-- RSS FEED Resume Cover Letters --

Why You Need to Find a Good Resume Cover Letter Template

Job Resume Cover Letter Articles : Why You Need to Find a Good Resume Cover Letter Template - Author: Dirk Daggler

If you are on the hunt for the perfect job, you may think that attaching a cover letter to your resume might not be such a big deal. After all, you have all your information outlined in your resume, why bother with such an inconvenient formality as a resume cover letter? What you don't realize is that your prospective employer may get hundreds of applications in a day, and the hiring manager has to sort out through all these resumes to find the right person fit for the job. How would you fancy reading through hundreds of resumes in a day. Not a very appetizing thought, is it?

This is where the resume cover letter comes in. The hiring manager won't want to waste time sifting through the chaff just to get to the wheat. Having an exceptional introduction to your resume in the form of a cover letter will serve as something to call the hiring manager's attention to the meat of the matter.

A cover letter that is exceptionally well-written, as well as attention-grabbing, will alert the hiring manager to the fact that here is someone who is enthusiastic and pays enough attention to detail by not leaving anything to chance. The cover letter will be the beacon that leads straight to your resume, and having an outstanding one will help you stand out above the rest of the other job applicants.

A simple, run-of-the-mill cover letter will not work either, as there is a good chance that the other resumes will have cover letters of their own. You will need something that sends a powerful message as well as catches the interest of the hiring manager immediately. Not only should it be a list of all your accomplishments and qualifications; it should be a testament to your meticulous dedication, your focused discipline, and your unflagging eagerness. In short it should serve as a personal advertisement that promotes you as the right person for the job.

Before beginning to compose your killer cover letter, you'll need to do your research. It always helps to be prepared in the best way possible without leaving anything to chance. Look through the thousands of cover letter samples online to find the best resume cover letter template to suit the job you are applying for, as well as the kind of impression you want to make. A good resume cover letter template will have quality structure and format, as well as unique sentence phrasing that will differentiate it from the generic cover letters that you usually find over the Internet.

As soon as you've found one, get to work crafting your own cover letter based on the resume cover letter template you've chosen. You'll need to check and re-check your grammar, spelling and sentence structure to ensure that you have everything down pat. A meticulous and error-free cover letter will get that hiring manager's attention without fail.

In closing...

There are a lot of questions posed by job applicants about how they can land the job of their choice. Among these questions, the necessity of including a resume cover letter ranks among the top. With a good resume cover letter template to base your actual cover letter on, you can be sure that you'll have covered all your resume bases, and can be confident about submitting your application without any misgivings.
About the Author:
Dirk Daggler is an online reviewer of niche websites. While the color white is virtually always used, other acceptable colours include light beige. The cover letter has to be typed on a quality typewriter, and if you are employing a PC, it should be printed on a printer which is laser based. Using an old typewriter or dot matrix printer will cut back the standard of your resume, even if it is nicely written. Every one should be unique, and should target the categorical company to which you are signing up for job. It's also necessary to be sure you use the right format. For most jobs, the best format is the business correspondence cover letter. If you are undecided what it sort of feels like, you can log on to have a look at different examples. These examples can offer you ideas for how you need your cover letters to be designed. When you send your cover letter to a possible worker, if it is impersonal, it'll likely be thrown in the garbage. Anyone can mass produce a cover letter or resume. Making the effort to tailor youare employed towards a selected individual will galvanize them, and they're going to be much more likely to take a look over your resume. Make sure you learn the name of the person that you are sending your cover letter to. The name must be spelled in the right way. If you have had a good interview with a company, and you send a chase up letter with incorrect spelling, it can spoil your odds of getting employed. When you write your letter, explain how you learned of the company and why you have an interest in working for them. You want to also explain what kind of position you have an interest in. The next thing you would like to do is to show your qualifications for the job. It's best to scribble two dynamic sentences explaining why you've got the needed abilities to perform the job you have an interest in. After this you'll desire to let the possible employer know that your professional resume is enclosed. It's also vital to be sure you do not end the letter incorrectly. What this does is tell the employer you are persistent, and will show the drive. This is the sort of impression you must make. If you would like to be sure to make a solid impression you will consider pro resume writing services that will do the job of resume writingfor you in a pro manner.

About the Author
Get the best Professional Resume Writing Services at www.selectresumes.com.au

Source: Resume Cover Letter samples, cover letter templates, cover letter articles at goarticles.com
-- RSS FEED Resume Cover Letters --

Cover Letter Strategies

Resume Cover Letter Articles : Cover Letter Strategies by Catherine Whitmyre

A strong cover letter can make or break your job search efforts. While some people say that the resume is the most important document, many agree that the cover letter is equally as important. Put as much thought and effort into your cover letter as you do your resume and you will increase your chances at getting a job interview. Here are a few strategies for developing a great letter that gets noticed.

Cover Letter - Broadcast Type (1)
Cover Letter - Cold Call Type (1)
Cover Letter - Referral Type (1)
Cover Letter - Response to Ads (1)
Cover Letter Articles (40)
Cover Letter Samples (5)

First of all, make sure that the cover letter is targeted to each specific job you are applying to. Don't just create one generic cover letter and send it to every employer. Change the content of each letter to show that you are interested in each particular job. The cover letter is your introduction to the company. If you don't let them know that you are interested in them, why should they be interested in you?

Carefully proofread your letter. If there are misspellings, typos, punctuation problems, or grammatical errors, you will make a terrible first impression. In fact, many employers will eliminate you from consideration for mistakes like this. After all, if they get 100 or more applicants for one open position, they have to find reasons to eliminate people. Don't make the mistake of thinking proper spelling and grammar isn't important. It is.

Write dynamically, using active instead of passive verbs. For example, instead of saying "My resume will be sent tomorrow," say "I will send my resume tomorrow." Don't use flowery, exaggerated language. Use direct and common language to eliminate wordiness and better connect with your reader.

Finally, always end your letter on a positive note, encouraging the reader to respond positively. For example, it would not be good to say "If you think I am the right fit, please call me at 555-555-5555." Even suggesting that you would not be a good fit may plant the seed in the reader's mind that you are not good enough. Instead say something like "I am positive that I am a good fit for this position. Please call me at 555-555-5555 at your earliest convenience to set up a personal interview."

The cover letter is an extremely important document in your job search arsenal. Don't downplay its importance. In a tough job market with steep competition vying for a very few jobs, everything you do will be analyzed and taken into consideration. The purpose of this letter is to make the link between your skills and experience and the requirements of the position you are applying for. In other words, the cover letter is an opportunity to make your case to an employer as to why you are the right candidate for the position. This should not only highlight your strengths and/or minimize the weaknesses that appear of your resume, but also demonstrate your interest by adding that personal touch that only a cover letter can do.

Here are some cover letter tips for lawyers to follow when creating a letter:
* Keep it short * Keep it simple * Make it persuasive * Make it perfect

Keep It Short.
Your cover letter should be written concisely and not exceed one page. The challenge of drafting an effective letter is to make your case regarding your interest in the position and organization, and identify your most relevant skills or experiences as they relate to the specific opportunity, in about 500 words or less. That exercise requires thinking about your skills and experience ahead of time, and demonstrating a certain amount of knowledge about the position and the organization. In other words, before putting pen to paper, you need to conduct some research, and make a list of skills that are relevant to the position.

Keep It Simple.
The temptation that lawyers tend to give into when drafting their cover letter is to include more information than is necessary. The "less is more" approach should be taken when drafting this letter. It does not mean that this letter should be a two-paragraph fluff piece, but rather a one-page document focused on one primary theme. You have to determine what your most persuasive argument is, and then focus your cover letter accordingly. Keeping it simple means providing the reader with an overarching theme that is well developed and supported, rather than throwing in the kitchen sink and hoping that something will stick.

Make It Persuasive.
Once you have determined what traits, skills, and or experiences you want to highlight on your cover letter, you need to distinguish yourself from other applicants. The best way to do this is to write a persuasive cover letter. Writing a persuasive type of letter is often mistaken for reciting long lists of qualities, skills and attributes. Just saying that you are "business savvy" or "detail oriented" doesn't make it so. To make it persuasive, you need to back up your claims with concrete examples. These examples will be unique to your experience, and therefore help differentiate your cover letter from those of other applicants. For example, instead of simply writing "result-oriented litigator," think about writing "result-oriented litigator that successfully settled 48 out of 50 civil cases in the last quarter of 2008, obtaining in excess of $20M in plaintiff settlement together with attorney's fees."

Make It Perfect.
Your cover letter should be perfect. It should not contain any grammar or punctuation errors, and no typos. While lawyers are trained to write, review, and analyze documents, when it comes to their resumes and cover letters, many are far from perfect. This is a problem that affects lawyers and non-lawyers alike. Spend enough time on one document, and for some reason you will no longer see the mistakes or errors that could be plaguing your document. While proofreading your letter can help you catch many of these potential errors; that are often not enough. Be sure to give your cover letter to a friend or colleague to review. Sometimes a fresh pair of eyes might detect what yours are no longer seeing. You may also want to consider sending it to a resume professional to review. Whatever method you choose, you have to make sure that your letter is perfect. Submitting this letter to an employer that is less than perfect could make the difference between getting an interview and getting a rejection letter.

About the Author
Land the legal job of your dreams by checking out our FREE legal cover letter tips. Daggler

You have a thick, killer resume listing all your achievements and experience. You have a killer transcript showing all the marvelous grades you got on the way to a successful career. You have a resume cover letter that has enough bite to take your prospective employer by the neck and make him or her your slave forever.

What does that great resume cover letter look like? A resume cover letter should act as the complement, and not just the cover, to your transcript and resume. It should show your prospective employers what your resume and transcript cannot. Many prospective employers hardly hire new people merely on the basis of their educational attainment, or their breadth of experience. Prospective employers actually read the cover letter to gauge your personality and passion for the job.

How can such a small document do such a great thing? Believe it or not, your cover letter is actually a reflection of your personality. There is little you can do to a resume or transcript, but a cover letter's contents are entirely in your power. A resume cover letter, moreover, should show passion: achievements, without passion, can seem empty, and no employer wants a boring employee with no spark or fire. Show that spark or fire through your resume cover letter!

First, make your letter personal. Address it to the person who will hire you, and avoid addresses such as "Dear Madame or Sir," or "Dear Mr or Ms," or, "To whom it may concern." Such addresses should be reserved for legal documents or impersonal correspondence. Your cover letter should not alienate your recipient, and should show that you are applying exclusively to the company, not placing them in your personal slush pile.

Second, don't be afraid to list your achievements. Never sell yourself short: be confident in everything that you have achieved. After all, you worked hard to get where you are, right? However, don't gush about your achievements, as you already have your resume to back you up; and make sure that the company needs to hear what good things you have to say about yourself.

This brings us to the third point: do research about the company to which you are applying. You need to know a company's goals and vision, and use this information to write your resume cover letter. If your career goals are perfectly aligned with those of the company's, then you may soon be looking at a match made in heaven.

Fourth, be brief and direct to the point! Some naïve job applicants assume that managers and prospective employers are stiff beings with no hearts, minds, or senses of humor. Although this can be true for some managers, many prospective employers actually look for someone who has the excitement, enthusiasm, and passion for the job. However, they want to see someone expressing all this in four paragraphs or less. Your prospective employers' time is sacred, so save them a few minutes of their precious schedules by making a short cover letter that goes straight to the point.

Fifth, show how much you want to be interviewed. Provide all your contact information, and say that you are open to an interview and would appreciate being spoken with regarding the company and the job opening. If you show an active voice in your resume cover letter, you just might land the job.

Your resume is useless without the right resume cover letter. Your achievements can ring dull if you don't have the personality to back it up. Are you ready for that job application? Get that resume, transcript, and cover letter ready, and make them the best of their kind.

About the Author:
Mario Churchill is a freelance author and has written over 200 articles on various subjects. Preparing a cover letter for a resume is a challenge since it is difficult to determine what must be mentioned in the letter and what has already been enclosed in your resume and what conditions, phrases and words are vital to catch the reader's attention.

Several key points must be kept in mind while writing a resume cover letter. They must attract the reader to look at the entire resume. The best tips that may help you to write a perfect curriculum vitae cover letter are as follows:

1. Mention the position you are applying for. Do not assume that the employer or interviewer will know why you're mailing in your resume. Clearly indicate the position that you're applying for, using the same terms as in job posting or advertisement. Sometimes, you might even have to mention the location you are applying to, if there are several listings for different locations.
2. If you are preparing a cover letter in order to enquire about prospective positions in the future, indicate this point clearly. Whenever you are enquiring about the chances of employment, make sure you specify which areas, sections or departments you wish to apply for.
3. Indicate in the resume cover letter where you discovered about the job position or job position. This may be from an internet career web site, a general listing posted on the internet, by a professional publication, an advertisement in the paper or in the company's own website. If you have been referred through an employee or manager working in the company you can mention their name too.
4. Highlighting your educational qualification and previous work experience relevantly in a brief and succinct paragraph is essential so that it draws the reader's attention into reading the complete resume.
5. Use a normal, non-decorative font of size 10-14, with sufficient spacing on the page. Composing resume cover letters must strictly follow the rules and regulations involved in resume writing; avoid crowding, and the use of any graphics or fonts which are difficult to read.
6. Customize every cover letter to suit the particular information of the job; do not use a generalized covering letter for every job.

Preparing resume cover letters does call for time and thought. It is often recommended that you have somebody to go through your letter and check for grammatical errors, sentence structure, spelling mistakes and to make an overall comment on your covering letter. It is very important to avoid stapling the covering letter of the resume. Instead, use a paper clip to ensure that the reader is able to review the resume with ease.
About the Author:

Abhishek is an expert at conducting interviews and he has got some great Interview Success Secrets up his sleeves! They ensure that all their skills are well defined, and their job duties and titles sounds more professional than they really are. However, when it comes time to really sell themselves, they fall prey to a resume cover letter template. Why would they pair a well-written resume with a resume cover letter template which does nothing to compliment their job skills? I don't know either. A resume cover letter template's intention is to ease the stress of job-seekers. Yet it only makes it worse by ensuring an applicant does not get the desired position. One who uses a resume cover letter template does nothing to assist one from standing out to the hiring manager, which is the only way to earn an interview amongst hundreds, if not thoughts, of other job hunters.

A resume cover letter template does not contain the most important elements of any cover letter. The whole point behind a resume cover letter is to get an interview. In order to do this, a resume cover letter must be convincing and demonstrate all the skills one so painstakingly perfected on their resume. After committing so much time on creating a resume that looks professional, it makes little sense to leave the job underdone by using a resume cover letter template.

What is a resume cover letter template? A resume cover letter template is a pre-generated cover letter where one only has to "fill in the blanks". Resume cover letter templates can be found included in most word processing software (which I will never understand) or by doing a search on the internet. With resume cover letters so readily available, it goes to show that most people use this method when applying for jobs. It is also an assumption that the way to land an interview is by being one of the first applicants for the job. This is not necessarily the case. A hiring manager is looking for the best candidate for the job and is not simply going to choose the first person to come along. They want to find the best applicant. If a resume cover letter does not grab their attention, which is what a resume cover letter achieves, then they are not going to waste time reviewing the applicant further.

Using a resume cover letter template is the quickest way for one's resume to end in the trash pile. A resume cover letter template gives the impression that one is a nameless, faceless, and mindless individual who just wants to get a job, any job. This is not a promising characteristic of a potential employee. A company is looking for an individual which has passion and enthusiasm. They also want an employee who is dedicates to the company and wants to see the company excel. How is one going to convey this to a hiring manager when they are just blanks filled into a resume cover letter template?

The answer is simple. They aren't. It is important to move away from using resume cover letter templates and begin using a personalized resume cover letter that makes the hiring manager convinced that one is the right person for the position. It is definitely more work, at least a first, but the process of a personalized cover letter reaps greater benefits. The percentage of positive responses to a personalized cover letter, versus a resume cover letter template, is greater. Thus the amount of resumes a job-seeker has to send out is lessened. This makes the initial work of writing a resume cover letter even out against the traditional job-seeker which uses a resume cover letter template.

A personalized resume cover letter should, first and foremost, have a beginning sentence which makes the hiring manager interested enough to continue reading. If one can learn this value skill in writing a resume cover letter, then half the word is already done! A resume cover letter template will never be able to do this, no matter how special it or, or how much a website promises positive results. A resume cover letter template is just too general to be able to reach this accomplishment. So spend a little time learning what it is that makes a resume cover letter special, and then do it.
About the Author:
Mario Churchill is a freelance author and has written over 200 articles on various subjects. After much hard work, your resume is beautiful! You've spent countless hours (and perhaps a chunk of change) perfecting both its content and appearance and now you're ready to send it out to fulfill its primary duty--landing you an interview. Or several. And fast.

What you may not realize, however, is that the first interview is about to begin--the 10-second interview where the recipient of your resume quickly and perhaps even unconsciously begins evaluating your candidacy based solely on *how* you've applied for the job.

Unlike a traditional interview, the 10-second interview, often conducted by overworked, unimaginative appointees, doesn't offer you the chance to respond to initial questions, biases, and concerns; it's just them, your resume, and that dreaded "delete" key.

Here are some tips to help you make the right first impression:

1. GIVE IT A NAME

Hiring managers receive anywhere from 10 to 1,000 resumes a day by email so it's understandable why they may get a little agitated after opening a dozen resume files in a row entitled resume1.doc. Use a more specific naming convention for your attachments, incorporating your full name and the position to which you're applying. Uniquely labeled files are easy to remember and (more importantly) easy to retrieve later on amongst a sea of "MyEngineeringRez.doc" files.

2. REMEMBER WHERE YOU'RE FROM

Using your personal email account is fine, as long as your user name and domain are palatable in the professional world. It's hard to take someone seriously when they're sending from "coolsherry@yahoo.com or porsche_man@hotmail.com." Consider investing in a website, especially if you're in the IT industry. That way you can use your own name as a domain, create user names specific to your field and position, *and* store your resume online for easy reference.

3. WATCH YOUR STEP

Keep your correspondence limited to the contact specified in the job description, lest you risk stepping on the wrong person's toes. Human Resources personnel, administrative assistants and other screeners watchdogs may be offended if you try to go over their head. That said, if you've identified an employee with decision-making power through your own personal network, you should contact them directly. Just be sure to introduce yourself (in-person, on the phone, or by email) *before* you forward your resume. Then ask for the proper application procedure (i.e. should anyone be copied on this email?).

4. TO ATTACH OR NOT TO ATTACH

Unless otherwise specified, you should always send an ASCII (text-only) resume embedded in the body of your email along with an MS Word or Adobe Acrobat attachment. This way, the recipient will have the option to begin scanning your plain text resume immediately or to open up the "reader-friendly" version. If you're unclear as to what an ASCII resume is, find out soon; they're quickly becoming the standard for online resume submission.

5. KEEP IT SIMPLE

Computer crashes can ruin anyone's day, including the hiring manager who's having trouble opening your gargantuan Photoshop file. Keep the size of your collective attachments down to 50Kb. This means no pictures (of yourself or anyone else), graphics, writing samples, or lengthy resume addendums. Save these items for the interview or send them upon request only.

6. AN INTRODUCTION IS IN ORDER

Always, without exception, include a cover letter embedded in the body of the email. This is your opportunity to introduce your resume. Don't ever pass it up. If you've written a cover letter that warrants more than a passing glance, attach it as a Word or Acrobat file alongside your resume, and make sure it's clearly labeled as a cover letter.

7. FOLLOW THEIR LEAD

All companies have a preferred way they like to process resumes, just as you have a preferred way you like to receive, open, and organize your mail. Keep their life simple and follow directions even if it means pasting that cumbersome 16-digit job code in the subject line *and* the body of your email. One last note: If their requests contradict any advice you've read or heard (including this article), go with what they say....even if it makes absolutely no sense. You'll get points for following along.

8. THE FINAL FIVE

Proofread, proofread, proofread. As is true with any marketing document, it's essential that your email, cover letter, and resume are flawless. Spend a final five minutes (at least!) reviewing your work, preferably after a short break from your computer to give your eyes a much needed rest.

These are just a few ideas to maximize your chances at getting a call for an interview. Remember, you're being evaluated the minute you hit that "send" button. Make sure to seize this opportunity to further impress those power-wielding screeners. By the time they get to reviewing your resume, they'll already be rooting for you.

About the Author
The proof is in the pudding. If so, you can turn to Cragislist.org. Many individuals and companies who need to hire writers turn to the popular classified service. To search open writing or editing jobs, visit your city page and perform a search. You will get a number of results. Unfortunately, some of those will be scams and others are legitimate, but more trouble than they are worth. How can you protect yourself as a writer or editor?

If working as a freelance writer, there are two things you must do right away before starting a new job or project that you got from Craigslist. They are have a contract drawn up and determine your rights. There are many individuals who have good ideas for books, but don’t know how to compile their thoughts into words. They hire the services of a freelance writer. If the book gets published, will your name be listed as a contributing author? Know what happens to your writing and who owns the rights before starting work. After doing so, don’t just get a verbal agreement, but get it in writing too. Draw up a contract or have your client do it.
Whether you are applying for an in-house writing or editing position or a freelance one, it is important to ensure you have experience. Although this should be verified during the interview process, avoid complications later down the line. Send samples of your work along with your resume. It is not uncommon for freelance writers to have their services terminated or for in-house writers to be fired if their work isn’t up to par. This is one big mess that you want to avoid. Not only put forth your best effort, but apply for jobs and accept freelance writing projects that you know you can do well.

Although you will find some in-house writing positions, most are for freelance opportunities. Hiring a freelance writer costs businesses less. Freelancers are contract employees, meaning they don’t get health benefits and they buy their own work supplies. Scammers like to target work-at-home opportunities. You can find an individual using a company as front to steal your work and not pay, someone trying to acquire a “training fee,” or someone who wants your bank account information or social security number. Save time and hassle by doing research first. Perform a standard internet search with any individual, company, or website name. Make sure they are a legitimate company and that they actually pay the freelance writers they hire.

The best types of writing and editing jobs to apply for are in-house positions. With these, you are guaranteed a set hourly pay. If you opt for freelance work advertised on Craigslist, search and choose your jobs carefully. You will find many positions where the pay is based on revenue sharing and others where you receive a flat rate for the project.

Now that you know how to avoid scams and trouble when working as a freelance writer, you can start your job search on Craigslist. To perform a traditional city search, visit your state and city page and use the search box to the left. To search multiple cities, entire states, or all of Craigslist with ease, download the free Craigslist Reader at MotionT.com.

About the Author
Download the Craigslist Reader to search writing and editing jobs on Craigslist with ease.

Source: Free Resume Samples, Free Articles at goarticles.com
-- RSS FEED Resume Cover Letters --

The Purpose of an Attorney Cover Letter

Job Resume Cover Letter Samples Articles : The Purpose of an Attorney Cover Letter by Vanessa Vidal

An attorney cover letter serves two purposes: to cover the gaps left by the resume, and to make your case to a potential employer as to why you should be considered for the position.

A good legal cover letter should highlight strengths and skills you have that are specific to the position. It should also make an effective argument as to why your experience, skills, and other traits make you an ideal candidate for the position. Let's take a look at the basic elements that should be included in your attorney cover letter.

1. Formatting

The formatting of your legal cover letter should be identical to your resume. Both the legal resume and cover letter should be on neutral tone paper, either white or ivory. You should use a traditional black 12-point font, either Times, Arial, or Verdana. Finally, your attorney cover letter should not exceed one page.

2. Salutation

Your attorney cover letter should always be addressed to a specific individual, never "To Whom It May Concern." You should use the formal salutation of "Dear Ms. Doe" or "Dear Mr. Doe." If you don't have the details, call the company or law firm and obtain the name of the hiring manager or recruiting coordinator for the position. If those details are absolutely impossible to obtain, then use "Dear Sir/Madam." Again, this should only be used as a last resort.

3. Introduction

The key to a good attorney cover letter is to provide clear, concise, and persuasive arguments regarding your intentions for applying for the position, your interest in the employer and its particular industry or focus, and your skills, strengths, and personal traits that make you well suited for this particular job.

When starting your attorney cover letter introduction, be sure to provide a quantitative description. For instance, rather than writing, "My name is John Doe," briefly provide an indication of your level of experience. For example, "I am a 5th year corporate associate with Latham & Watkins in Dallas, Texas, and I am interested in being considered for your corporate associate position in Houston, Texas."

3. Body

You need to do some research and due diligence before writing your attorney cover letter. Remember, a well-informed applicant will come across as a serious and motivated candidate.

You need to highlight the particular attributes of the employer that attract you and inspire you to take up the job. It is not enough to tell a prospective employer that you are "an accomplished corporate lawyer interested in pursuing a position with Wilson Sonsini in Palo Alto, CA." Rather, you need to let the firm know that 'your extensive merger and acquisition experience representing mid-cap high-technology firms and start-ups with a focus on life sciences, (makes you) especially well-suited for Wilson's merger and acquisition practice group in Palo Alto, CA.'

4. Closing

When closing your legal cover letter, be sure to reiterate your interest in the position and your availability. If you plan on visiting the employer's city on a certain date, you should indicate this fact on your legal cover letter. Otherwise, let your potential employer know that you are available via phone or email, and that you are willing to travel if necessary. Finally, when using email, be sure to send the legal resume and cover letter as separate attachments, properly labeled "Jane Doe Resume," and "Jane Doe Cover Letter."

About the Author
Discover the incredible FREE attorney cover letter secrets that will set you apart from the competition http://www.esqresume.com These secrets won't be available forever - download attorney cover letter secrets today absolutely free and land the attorney job of your dreams!

Source: Resume Cover Letter Samples, Job Cover Letter Templates, Resume Cover Letter Examples articles at goarticles.com
-- RSS FEED Resume Cover Letters --

Why You Need To Find A Good Resume Cover Letter Template

Job Resume Cover Letter Articles : Why You Need To Find A Good Resume Cover Letter Template by Emmitt Streat

About the Author
Emmitt Streat is a writer born and raised in India. Many new graduates rely on the notion that their degree or diploma major is enough to convey to a potential employer the depth of their skills and qualifications. A carefully designed resume, through strategic presentation of key program elements and your personal areas of focus, will quickly demonstrate to an employer the skills you bring to the table; this in turn allows you to stand out from other candidates. Many new graduates do not include vital details such as volunteer and work experiences on their resumes because they do not think they are important. Remember an effective resume needs to engage a new employer within 30 seconds or less. As such, it needs to be strategically designed with powerful content and presentation. The most important resume writing strategy for new graduates is to identify and leverage the core competencies that they have gained through their work experiences, extracurricular activities, and their studies to help craft a high impact, powerful resume. For new graduates, employers are looking for three things: Academic results This means that you should have chosen the right degree and completed it successfully. Work experience It is imperative that you have work experiences in a job that provided experience looking after customers, working in teams and developing good work habits such as punctuality and initiative. Part-time jobs provides the new graduate with experience handling responsibility whether it is opening or closing the store or helping to train new employees. My consultations with 1000s of new graduates have demonstrated that they do not rate their work experiences they have gained unless that experience is in their specific field. However, they are wrong. In their chosen field, employers greatly value the work that graduates have done, whether as a labourer or as a summer intern. New graduates must understand that employers value their experiences because it could provide them with referees, a potential track record of accomplishments, teamwork, problem- solving skills and people skills such as customer service. Many new graduates undervalue the strength of these transferable skills that have built up during their work experiences. These core strengths can provide the new graduate with a distinct advantage in creating a targeted qualifications summary and keyword section for their resumes. Extracurricular & Leadership Experiences Extracurricular activities can provide an employer with a sense of a person's initiative and drive. A new graduates' hobbies, volunteer work, and personal interest are things they chose to get involved in and are not focused to do. As such , they can provide insight into a new graduates' values, energy and interest in the world at large, such as their willingness to get involved and achieve results. Relying solely on a complete degree is not a smart choice for new graduates in the writing of their resumes. Remember unless you are in a highly saught-after program, there will be competing with both new graduates and experience professionals for the same positions. Therefore, well-created resume is an important tool for the new graduate career management toolbox. The goal of a well-written résumé is to get the attention of the hiring manager to secure a job interview. The skill in preparing an effective résumé lies in the art of marketing yourself on paper concisely, yet with imagination and originality. Your résumé should be a summary of specific skills, educational background, paid and unpaid work experiences related to the role (s) you are targeting - not a list of everything you have ever done. Be selective, be succinct and keep the target market in mind when writing your résumé.

Why write a résumé? In the Canadian job market, résumés are written for many reasons: • To generate job interviews for the opportunity to work. • To give focus to your job search, to clarify and identify the skills you have to offer an employer, and to understand the diverse job opportunities available to you. • For executives, it is used for board appointments and corporate websites. • For application to graduate school. Keep in mind that your résumé is not static, and is subject to change as you grow within your career. Another key factor when writing your résumé is to ensure that your résumé is targeted to meet the requirements of potential employers. In this competitive Canadian job market, having a good résumé is essential for full-time jobs, part-time, internal, external, promotions, new jobs, career changes, internships and work experience placements - wherever an employer or decision-maker is short-listing or interviewing or selecting applicants. When writing your résumé, start with the basic principles of marketing: • Know the product - which is you • Know the buyer or the market - the potential employer • Know how to research the market - gather employer and industry information • Know how to package the product for the target market - an effective strategy and format

Résumé writing guidelines: • Write your résumé in the third person • Keep your résumé to a maximum of 2 pages • Write a career summary to position your skills • Incorporate achievements in your résumé writing

Make sure the outcomes of your achievements and the benefits to the organization are clearly outlined and quantified when writing your resume. A résumé that is not well written wanders aimlessly without giving direction to your skills and abilities. Think about it. Where do résumé go? They go to potential employers, so write your resume with their needs in mind. The most effective résumé makes the link between your skills and experience and how they could contribute directly to the employers' needs. So clearly articulate how you fit the employer's requirements. It is also a great idea for you to have your résumé appraised by someone else to ensure that it is easily understood and appeals to Canadian employers. Cover Letter: You MUST have one. It must be professionally written and reinforce your experience and value proposition to the hiring company. It needs to be to the point and precise. In today's market your cover letter is what will either get your resume additional consideration or the fast track to the "Do Not Call" list. The cover letter is you being able to speak to the potential employer and tell them why they should hire you versus your competition. Not having a cover letter or a less than perfect cover letter will put you at a distinct disadvantage in today's job market. Get a cover letter professional written from a resume writer; it will be the best investment you make in your job search.

2. Resume: Is you resume up to date, is it correctly and consistently formatted, does it have key points? Most of all is the spelling correct and the punctuation? Are you reviewing your own resume? If so, have a friend or family member conduct a "Resume Stress Test" for errors and areas for improvement. Ideally, have a professional resume writer create for you a resume from your career experience. With the vast amount of resumes being submitted for open positions, yours has to be outstanding! Get professional help from a resume writer. Every recruiter will only give about 10 seconds to scan your resume; do your key points stand out, does it call attention to the main points of what you can do for the company? Does it have the proper structure to keep the attention of the recruiter?

3. Preparation: The first step as in anything is to be prepared, just like preparing for an exam. Also consider the following questions to focus your preparation. What job are you looking for? Do you know where to search and find the job that you want? Once you decided the direction you are going, have you studied the companies that lead in that industry? Don't do just a Google search; you need to be well prepared and ready. For example, if it's a retail company, visit a few of their stores, observe the customers, and even strike up a few conversations. Talk to existing employees--ask them what it's like working there. Become familiar with the history of the company. Who started it? Where? Who runs it now? Be creative, and do whatever you believe the other candidates don't have the guts to do.

4. Network: Companies tend nowadays to rely heavily on employee referrals. Make a list of all of your friends, relatives, and acquaintances. Call each one and ask them if they know of any openings that they could recommend you for. Be prepared to send them an expertly prepared resume. Don't be too humble, tell them what you are looking for, but let them know that you're flexible and that if they have any suggestions, you're open to them. A referral name can often open the door and allow you to step in and get a job before it is advertised.

5. Prepare for the Interview: You need to be ready to give solid answers to interviewer questions when asked. Candidates should begin interview preparation well before an interview is scheduled--just take a list of 20 common interview questions and start preparing responses. Then practice with a friend--you as the candidate and them as the interviewer. Record your mock interview and improve your responses. Don't wait to start this preparation! Job seekers can complete interview preparation within 2-weeks for those 20 basic interview questions. Now with interview preparation complete, the candidate should be confident and be able to control an interview. Continue with general interview preparation until a real interview is scheduled then just focus preparation on the specific job opportunity and company.

Follow these five steps and you'll accelerate your job search. You'll quickly find work--even in the worst economy in the last 25 years.

About the Author
Bob Stanley from Best Price Resume, a leading nationwide provider of resume services, is an account executive who helps clients accelerate their job search with expertly designed and written cover letters and resumes. You résumé should motivate them to contact you to discuss employment opportunities.

Executive résumé writing and career marketing is highly subjective, there are few standardized guidelines for job seekers to help them in developing résumé s and cover letters, documents that have significant impact on their career success.

I have reviewed 1000s of executive résumé s during my 12 years of résumé writing and human resources management career and I have come to recognize the key mistakes that most executives make when writing their résumé s. However, executives and senior management professionals make the same résumé writing mistakes as other job seekers, recruiters and hiring decision makers are less forgiving.

Here are some of the top executive résumé writing mistakes:

Duties vs. Accomplishments - Content without results

• Recruiters and hiring decision-makers needs to see the results you achieved in each role that is relevant to the job you are targeting. Your executive résumé needs to demonstrate what you accomplished, the distinct value you added and how you made a difference to your past employers. Your unique successes should be measurable and quantifiable to build credibility. You should also briefly provide the context of your position such as the number of direct reports and the budget that you managed. You should never use words and phrases such as "Duties included," "Responsibilities," or "Responsible for" in an executive résumé. Instead, you should focus accomplishment using action verbs.

Unreadable quantitative data • As mentioned above, your contributions are the most critical component of your résumé. However, your résumé should focus on telling stories of your successes and your results and not just packed with numbers. An executive résumé filled with numbers will only serves to will your résumé's readability and subsequently your job search success. Well-chosen words and phrases will better convey your message.

spelling errors, typos and grammatical flaws • It is cliché but you will not get a second chance to make a first impression. Many people are surprised that executive level résumé s contains spelling and grammatical errors, but they do. Poor spelling and grammar at an executive level will significantly hurt your job search. If you do not take care in writing a résumé that could help improve your personal circumstances, how would you treat documents with less personal significance?

The résumé is too general • When reviewing you résumé can a reader immediately tell you who are and your areas of expertise? Do they know instantly your most impressive career achievements? Many executives create broad résumé s so they do not limit themselves during their job search. Unfortunately, broad résumé s lack specific information that would help a recruiter determine if you are a fit for their role. Your executive résumé should tie your accomplishments to that specific employer's needs. Unclear layout, poor formatting and structure • Busy decision makers and recruits have short attention spans. Your executive résumé should be clear, concise and provide the relevant information to engage a potential employer to call you. Instead of clutter, focus on identifying and effectively conveying you are "Unique Selling Points" in format that is easy to read. A crowed résumé may turn of recruiters and hiring decision-makers and can be ineffective in your job search.

Contains lies and exaggerations • A survey by J. J. Keller & Associates of 161 surveyed HR professionals, 55% reported that applicants lied about their employment history, education, certifications and licences on their résumé s. This despite the plethora of media stories of high profile people who have lost impressive positives due to their lies and despite the increasing use of background checks conducted by employees, job seekers still laid on their résumé s. Résumé enhancements of any kind is not recommended. Do not lie, stretch the truth or misrepresent the facts. It does not take an official background check to discover lies. Remember Google. It is that that easy.

Review your résumé thoroughly to avoid the above mistakes. Ensure your executive résumé is concise, organized and compelling enough to gain attention in this crowed and competitive market.

About the Author

Surranna Sandy is the President of Resume Solutions, http://www.resumesolutions.ca, a Certified Professional Résumé Writer, Certified Employment Interview Coach and former Human Resources Management Professional with fortune 500 companies. For example it is even more important to deal with the choice of your preferred job location and your truthful intent to relocate. I saw most of the candidates who apply to jobs out of their state happen to ignore that the guy sitting at the other end, reading the resume or cover letter will have a common thought of asking you, why you consider a relocation from the current location. The former example would be too relevant for any professional seeking an outside employment. Hence it is important to use an effective relocation cover letter sample to your job application. Remember at the other end the hiring personnel think, it is important to have right people at right places. Below are some example tips to handle questions and clear your intent while opting for relocation and writing a relocation resume cover letter.

Tip 1: No employer will be interested to fly in a candidate paying relocation expenses. So give your options to the employer writing a good cover letter that you would like to meet him in person if the situation demands, this will clear your intent and will give him an idea that you are familiar with the location and could adjust yourself pretty soon.

Tip 2: Keep a reference of relative or friend to increase the employer's interested in your profile, follow up with him or the recruiter with a news article or clip sending him signals that you still have good contacts and are well aware of the events in the city.

Tip 3: The last few sentences in your resume cover letter are especially important; do remember to leave your resume cover letter reader with a good personalized note, that he can recall you when he again opens your email or message.

About the Author
Often job seekers either never come to know or do not realize the proper ways to write a resume and also miss on how to write an effective cover letter by not seeking help on knowing their drawbacks.

Source: Resume Cover Letter articles at goarticles.com
-- RSS FEED Resume Cover Letters --

The Good Cover Letter Gets Your Resume Read

The Good Cover Letter Gets Your Resume Read by Melissa Brewer

A dazzling cover will get your resume read - plain and simple. What do I mean by dazzling? I'm not talking about a clean, professional format - although that is definitely a component of a good cover letter. I'm also talking about a confident, intelligent cover letter that hooks your reader, shows your professionalism, and stops your reader dead in their tracks to finish it.

Your cover letter should be properly formatted and the first paragraph should explain the advertisement that you are responding to. Immediately following this information, you should begin to tell the employer who you are and why you are qualified to apply for the job. However, be careful with the language you use in your cover letter - starting every sentence with "I" is a huge turn-off for those who make the hiring decision. A cover letter should be focused on "you" - with "you" being the business you are offering yourself to. Discuss your qualifications, your goals, and your professional attributes and how they apply to the company you want to join as a valuable team member.

The second paragraph is where you should prepare to shine. Show the employer why they need you because you're a super-whiz ready to do anything to get the job done. You love the job so much you dream of it in your sleep. You've read a hundred articles of the company since you were 12. Describe your strengths, passions, and collective experience in your career. You can describe why you entered the field and your major accomplishments at each place you have worked, any awards you have received, your favorite project, or all of the above. Try to keep your sentence concise but make sure you truly convey your passion. If you do any pro bono work or volunteer work in your field, mention this - in addition to any other related side-projects that are not listed on your resume. Don't re-state your resume or go over the information that is in your resume in your cover letter. Your cover letter sells your resume - so highlight certain areas of your resume but do so in the context of your career goals and how your qualifications and passion benefit the company.

In your final paragraph, tell the employer what your interview availability is, and when you would like to meet with her. DO NOT ask the employer to call you at their convenience. Confident professionals are eager to be called, and confident that they WILL be - you don't want them to call you back whenever they feel like it. Give them a date you will follow up if you haven't heard from them - and then do follow up.

It's important to remember that a cover letter is just the first page of your story that's intended get the employer to read your resume. You've got to write the bang-up resume. You've got to ace the interview. Practice writing, speaking, and thinking with confidence throughout your job search process, and you'll not just get the job you need, but the career you want.

About the Author
Melissa Brewer is the author of the Little White Ebook of Homeshoring Jobs, the complete guide to work from home call center employment available at LittleWhiteEbook.com. Rivera

A cover letter is designed to express your interest in a certain job. It is used to express your feeling toward the position and highlights a few necessary skills needed for the job. A cover letter does not list all you skills, this is done in your resume. However, a cover letter invites the reader to look at your resume with close attention and may also contain a "call to action" soliciting an interview.

In a world so full of competition, a cover letter helps set you apart from the rest. There are many way to write a cover letter. But keep in mind that it isn't a science, if you can master ADOBE programs, you can successfully write a good cover letter.

Cover letters have many layouts but essentially have the same information and distribution. Note that letters have a left aligned distribution.

* Heading: This is where you put your information. Name, Address and phone number and the date. This goes on the top left hand side. * Addressee: This is where the information of the person or department that will receive your cover letter and resume. * Greeting: The norm is "Dear", but you may write some other greeting. Always remember that it must be in a respectful manner. Also write the person's full name. If it's directed to departments write: Hiring Manager.

After the greeting come the paragraphs that state you desire and qualifications. This part consists of 2 to 4 paragraphs. I recommend a three paragraph system, one paragraph for a specific purpose.

· Paragraph one: Why you are writing and which position you are applying for? Employers also like to know how you heard about the position, to see which medium was the most successful. Write a bit about the company and why you are interested in this position or organization. This demonstrate to you future employer that you know about them and that you are sincerely interested in working with them.

· Paragraph two: This paragraph is designed to explain why you are qualified for the job. In the job description there is usually a list of tasks that the person applying for the position must do. Highlight experiences that demonstrate your capacity in fulfilling those tasks. If the paragraph seems too long, divide it into two. Please consider the following in order to make this second paragraph effective.

* The first sentence should be a good opener. A quick introduction directed at the skills and qualifications needed for the job. * The body of the paragraph should provide evidence to back up what you've just claimed. Describe specific jobs, projects and accomplishments associated with those experiences. * The final sentence is a summary of what you've discussed above. Mention the position title and company name to bring the reader back to the specific job in question.

· Final Paragraph: It should be a short paragraph, from 2 to 4 sentences. Use a call to action such as "Please schedule a date and time convenient to you for me to come show you my extensive portfolio..." or something else that invites you for an interview. Finish the letter with thanks to the reader for his/her time and consideration.

Finish the body of you cover letter with a good bye. Then with your signature and below your name in print.

Remember that a cover letter is to invite a person to read your resume and invite you for an interview. The cover letter should be well written and error free. Have people read it in order to spot any syntax error. All the cover letters in the world won't help you land a job if your resume is bad. So brush up your resume; write a good cover letter and good luck on your job hunting.

Source: Resume Cover Letter articles at goarticles.com
-- RSS FEED Resume Cover Letters --
