It’s the time of year for celebration, elation and goodwill toward all. Revenge of the 80s contributes to all of that with our annual Christmas special, which airs live tonight. Check local affiliates for broadcasts throughout next week and our podcast will be up over the weekend).

We will feature Classic Alternative Christmas Favorites from artists of the era including Captain Sensible, The Cocteau Twins, Mojo Nixon, Kate Bush, Bad News, The Pogues and The Alarm. We will also play new Christmas songs from Kip, Caron and Michele of The Little Girls (as “The Holliberries”) and Holly Beth Vincent.

It took eight nominations, but the band that epitomized the sound of Detroit Punk is going to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Stooges (also known as Iggy and the Stooges) were major influences on other legendary punk and alt-rock acts of the 80s including Nikki and the Corvettes, Henry Rollins, Jello Biafra and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Band leader Iggy Pop is often referred to as the “Godfather of Punk,” and contributed several interesting songs to the 1980s and wrote one of the all-time great alt-rock duets, “Candy,” which was sung with Kate Pierson in 1990.

The Stooges will be inducted in a ceremony on March 15, 2010 at the Waldorf-Astoria in Manhattan.

Currently, I am working on the 2009 Revenge of the 80s Christmas Special, which will be filled with classic alternative Christmas music.

Along with the holiday favorites from the 80s, we will have a new song by Kip, Caron and Michele of The Little Girls, (I Wanna Go) Surfin’ with Santa (written by Kip Brown) and the new “Punk Rock Christmas” by Holly Beth Vincent.

Christmas Alt-Classics in the sack for our special include tracks by Captain Sensible, Klark Kent, Wall of Voodoo, The Pogues with Kirsty McColl, The Cocteau Twins and Mojo Nixon.

The podcast for our 12/11/09 Revenge of the 80s Radio show is up and available at the end of this post. This week, we have the World Radio Premiere of Adriana Kaegi’s new single, “I’ve Been Going Out,” which the Original “Mama Coconut” released earlier this week as the first follow-up to her brilliant TAG album. It is available for download now at Adriana’s official internet store and her Reverb Nation page.

Adriana’s new electronica lounge music single is a collaboration between her creative mind with that of Ronnie Bruce Rogers, who produced the song with her. Adriana’s enchanting voice and personal charm shine with well-placed jazzy keyboard riffs and subtle horns throughout the track. “I’ve Been Going Out” is s bit more up-tempo them the music from TAG, and is yet another showcase of Adriana’s all-around talents as a performer and musician.

We also played a new remix of Louise Robey’s “A Woman Scorned,” destined to be a club smash. It will soon be part of Robey’s upcoming musical anthology CD set.

From Holly Beth Vincent’s 2009 album Minnesota, California, we showcased a “deeper cut:” her excellent cover of “Take It On the Run.” Vincent’s makes this song much stronger and more of a power ballad than the wimpier original. It is one of the many excellent tracks on Minnesota, California.

We also featured classic alternative music from artists including Trio, Falco, Mondo Rock, INXS and Altered Images.

Since its 2007 release, The Young Ones Extra Stoopid Edition has been a staple for the Christmas Stocking.
