PPC Classroom 3 by Anik Singal & Amit Mehta

Anik Singal and Amit Mehta, recently launched PPC Classroom version 3 with truckload of HYPE and launch formula gimmicks. You can try the whole load of crap for just $1 for 14 days. Then you’ll be charged $97 per month.  However, let me tell you frankly this; PPC Classroom 3 is not even worth the $1 trial.

Amit and Anik spent almost 100K in JV prizes, launch hype. But they could not spend even 5K testing their product, membership area, site navigation and customer support system.

What is PPC Classroom 3?

It’s supposed to be a “World Class” PPC coaching and training center. The original “PPC Classroom” version 1 was a super success due to the fame of Affiliate classroom; their 2nd version too was fairly success. Both the version had pretty decent information. But the same cannot be said to PPC Class 3.

After paying $1 and gaining access (only if you are lucky) to the lessons you’ll be utterly disappointed. It contains absolutely outdated useless information. And accessing the actual information (lesson) is really big pain. It’s not PDF; it’s not video; it’s not even simple HTML page; it’s called Flash PDF…meaning you cannot download it; just read it online. If you are using slow connection, your web browser will be frozen; if you are using an old and slow computer you system will be frozen because Flash PDF’s eats up plenty of system resources.

Once you become a paid member,  you’ll be given access to the bizarre Affiliate Classroom member’s area.  (Remember, you paid for PPC Class not Affiliate Class) Here, you are only allowed to do Window shopping.  If you click on some link the bugger will shout “hey, you are not authorized to access this stuff – pay $30”, “hey, pay $80 for this course”, “hey, access denied” etc.!

The only way to access your stuff is by clicking on the “support” link. There you’ll find the link to access PPC Classroom, assuming that your order has been manually approved. Here you’ll find the link to “PPC Classroom”  (Warning- check the page thoroughly because human eye’s can’t catch the link easily!)

PPC Classroom 3 Detailed Review.

Well, I really can’t write anything in detail because I can’t access all the course modules. Inside the member’s area I can see 23 modules; but only 3-4 modules opened, the rest doesn’t load – I get a blank page. PPC Classroom 3 is just re launch of version 2 with some added bonuses. After PPC 2 Google Adwords had a major update with their algorithm, policy and quality score… So most of the course modules and contents are out of date and useless.

Up-sells, Cross Sells, Down Sells and Ditch Sells

While joining, I took advantage (!) of their 30 day free trial to “Niche Detective Club”.  So I clicked on the Niche detective link. But instead of stuffs I was shown a page with following message.

If you are a happy shopper with BIG wallet you get an great opportunity to spend as much as $5000 in up sell stuffs!

Conclusion:

It’s a common practice to conduct some kind of BETA testing of membership sites and Software tools before doing mega launches. Marketers with commonsense and who value their paying customers normally ask their JV partners and trusted members to do some testing; Companies hire independent “Software testers”. Anik Singal’s Lurn Inc did nothing. In fact, nobody has got time or patience to do testing and fixing bugs.

Go to Google Adwords learning center where you can get real PPC education. If you need better education from Marketer’s angel, buy Perry Marshal’s “Definite Guide to Google Adwords” or Wealthy Affiliate’s “Beating The Adwords”.

October 22nd 2009, is the official Windows-7 release date announced by Microsoft. I’m not excited and not at all anxious about the release because I’ve been using Win 7 for more than 4 months now. I got the evaluation copy (Build-7100) which is valid until June 2010.

After rigorously (!) using Laptops for more than 4 years I decided to buy a Desktop.  Now I’m in LOVE with Desktop computer again. The big 22 inch LG Flatron LCD monitor, Keyboard with number pad, BIG mouse and Widescreen display makes my computing experience nice. See the picture of my desktop below.

Overall Performance:

The performance of Win-7 with Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8Ghz processor and 4 GB physical memory is great and smooth. Like everyone, I have had terrible experience with Vista; but that’s not the case with Win7. All of my software works just fine on Windows 7.

I’m not game freak. In fact, I never bought a computer game! So I don’t know how the computer games would perform on WIN7.

If you have bought Vista recently you’ll get free upgrade to Win-7. I think Mr. Billy (Bill Gates) should consider offering substantial discount to VISTA customer who bought it earlier- just to get rid of bad memories of Vista!

Recently, in a press release Mr. Dell (Michel Dell of Dell Computers) said-

“With Windows-7 and forthcoming release of Office-2010 people will start loving Windows once again”

I think that’s good news for everyone to hear.

Best Security & Anti-Virus Program for Windows 7:

I tested Panda, F-Secure and Kaspersky antivirus program on my system. Kaspersky is the real winner.

Bugs & Loopholes:

My favorite web browser Firefox seems to have some issues. After I upgraded to Firefox version 3.5, it started freezing frequently. I think it is a problem with Firefox, not with Windows. Hopefully, Mozilla Firefox guys will fix it soon. On the other hand, Flock browser has no issues. (Flock is powered by Mozilla)

It looks like Gurus are promoting George Browns product “Google Sniper”. Now let me tell you this. This product is not a typical Guru scam. Google Sniper contains some quality and useful information; but it’s kind of semi-baked cake!

Here is the quick review of Google Sniper System:

George demonstrates how to create a perfect sniper site in great details. I have studied his 99 page PDF guide and mind map. I did not watch all those videos because I already know everything about setting up website, installing wordpress, customizing it etc.; so I didn’t want to waste hours watching videos. However, the author stops at an important point. The course does not clearly explain “how to get your site ranked on the front page of Google.com!”

Google Sniper- Complete Review:

It comes with 8 chapters in a .PDF file. There is a shorter “Process Map” is you are in a hurry. It also has 12 video tutorials, ideal for a newbie marketer.

The cons and downside of the course:

Everything is great until chapter 6. Anyone can create a great looking site with great pre sale copy. The problem is “getting your site ranked well”. George only talks about “video marketing”. What you need to do is, create few videos and submit to some top video sharing sites. Then social bookmark it using some free online tools.

Well, this is certainly not a bad method. In fact, it is one of the proven methods. However, unfortunately, video marketing is not viable to everyone. Creating videos, editing it and trying to make it perfect take lots of time, and I really hate it! And if you are not a native English speaker (like me) you’ll have even more problem with videos!

The cost of this product is $77; and there are some up-sells and ditch-sells. When you buy Google Sniper you’ll be automatically enrolled into “Google Sniper Club” which will cost you $37 per month. Cancel the membership within 30 days, if you find no value in it !

ASP.Net hosting with IX Web

I’ve been doing Internet marketing for more than 5 years. Until recently I only used Appache Linux server. However, very recently I wanted to test an ASP.Net (Active server pages) 3.5 script, which requires Windows hosting. I spent almost 2 days searching, researching and browsing around forums and blogs to find decent ASP.Net 3.5 hosting provider.

My ultimate finding is “Windows server is NOT cheap” in comparison to Unix/Linux servers! You should be ready to spend at least $15 a month for Windows 2003/2008 servers. And most of the so called and popular Companies requires a long-term contract; like you have to pay for 2-5 years upfront. I could not find any decent Companies with a monthly billing plan!

ASP.Net 3.5 Hosting with IX Web Host

Let me cut the long story short. The hosting company I selected was IXwebhosting.com. They have been doing business since 1999 (way before I started online marketing) so the company looked like trustworthy.

IX Web Hosting is offering 2 Windows Hosting Packages (ASP.Net plan) namely Business Plus and Unlimited Pro. Below you can see the main features at a glance.

I selected “Ultimate Pro” main because it comes with 15 dedicated IP address. Single unique IP on Linux Hosting plan would cost you minimum $2 per month; so 15 IP means $30 per month; that’s $360 a year! (If you do not know the importance of a dedicated IP address don’t bother about that) Also with this plan you get 3 domain names for free as long as you stay with IXweb (which is worth around $30 per annum.)

Alright, the main feature is it support ASP.Net 3.5 (also support 1.5-2.5)

IXWebhosting.com’s Support Review:

Yes, they do have been true 24/7 live technical chat support; quick ticket support and toll-free (US only) telephone support. Initially, I spent hours or so with their Chatter to learn how to set up site, how to use Plesk Control panel and how to use FTP!

The Downside:

The only problem is Plesk control panel; If you are addicted to “Control Panel” (CPanel) like me, you”l go through lots of hassles just to set up your site. If you are experienced Windows server user then you won’t have problems.

Conclusion:

I do recommend IXwebhosting.com for small to a medium sized niche and business websites. There are no special promotion coupons or discount codes available as they are currently running special discounted offer. Visit IXWebHosting.com

The concept is very simple.

2. You then open an advertising account at admob.com (the cell phone advertising network)
3. Create a single line ad (you only get 35 characters to shout your message!) and set up your target URL- Direct affiliate link or link to your pre-sell page.
4. You then add some deposit with admob.com for your PPC advertising ($50, $100 or $1000)
5. Once the ad is approved by Admob.com you can expect ad impressions and click. You’ll get 1000’s of impressions within few hours.
6. Sit back, relax and count your sales and commission.

Does it sounds too good to be true? Yes, it is.

The Pros:

The traffic you get from this system is very cheap in comparison to traditional PPC system; The Cell phone market is only going to expand so there are plenty of opportunities and room for improvement if you are willing to waste tens of thousands of dollars in testing and tweaking.

It’s a professionally recorded video course; it’s good course except that it doesn’t work!

Conclusion:

Well, what should I say?

The Mobile phone advertising system is ideal for BIG Bucks corporate companies for brand awareness. The method is definitely not viable for simple affiliate marketing as the course claims.

Mack Michaels is showing you proof of income in his sales letter; he made it from his popular Maverick Money Makers course. I seriously suspect if he made even few hundred bucks from the method that he preaches.

I suggest all wannabe affiliate marketers to stay away from “Cell phone cash system”. You can spend the 100 bucks with your family and have fun.

The sales letter contains pictures of Big Bungalow, Ferrari Car, and Beach vacation, just to ignite reader’s emotion. It promises a dream just like any other “make money online” scams.

Inside the story of Autocash System:

It’s nothing more than “elementary level” online marketing course, which talks about selling your own products online, selling stuffs on Ebay and some confusing affiliate marketing information – poorly documented  and full of chaos!

There are 3 courses called “steps”.

Module 1: In the first course, Paul talk about, Getting started, setting up a website, Google Adsense, affiliate marketing, selling on eBay, selling your own product and finally some SEO information full of jokes!

Module 2: After finishing the first module, I was expecting some good info on module 2. However, I was wrong again. In this chapter Paul talks about creating attractive sites, selling your own products, affiliate marketing, building list and another search engine optimization section full of chaos!

If you take all the actions based on this module you will LOSE MONEY and bound to fail… Here is why!

He talks about getting traffic to your website the most expensive way; like buying lots of expired domain names,  becoming premium PPC advertiser (by making at least $5000 payment) etc.

Module 3: Well, what should I say about this?

This is a freebie eBook written by Liz Tomy about list building; not written by Lanty Paul. This is a very basic 17 page list building course (but well documented by Liz Tomy).

Conclusion:

Auto Cash System sales letter mainly targets those “desperate to make money” type of audiences. The information in the course will make your online marketing journey  hellish.  And finally I’m wondering why people like Jack Humphrey, promote these types of rubbish, especially when there are many other useful products.

Stay away from Autocashsystem.com and save your hard earned  money for “good”.

Michael Rasmussen, a well known guru in Internet Marketing niche has released limited copies (?!) of his latest product “Affiliate Launch Blueprint”.  Since all the top names are promoting this product, I have decided to write a review of it.

If you do a search for Google for “Affiliate Launch Blueprint Review” or “Affiliate Launch Blueprint Scam” you’ll see the whole course in live action (dozens of sites there).  The people who promote these products really don’t care if the stuff really works or not. They are all interested in getting the commission.

..Alright, that’s not a bad business practice. After all, affiliate marketing is all about making money by promoting someone’s products.

See how I make money by using this method much better way!

Now this method is not new at all. This method is being openly discussed on various Marketing forums and Blogs. Craig Beckta’s “Secret Affiliate Code” is all about dominating product launch. Alok Jain’s “Project Quick Cash” also talks about the same.

Does Affiliate Launch Blueprint Really Work?

Of course, it does; but there is a problem with this FORMULA or method!

The entire launch can become a flop show. Trust me; more than 50% of product launches get busted out in the crowd for many obvious reasons. Besides getting 100’s of affiliates and dozens of JV partners some product owners couldn’t even sell few copies of their product on the launch day… it happens always because there are too many launches and everyone is using the same “Product Launch Formula”

For example, Frank Kern (BIG Name!) sold 2000 copies of his 2K course Mass Control within 1 hour after the launch. Few months ago he released only 700 copies of version 2. There were too much hype and BUZZ for version 2 than version 1. However, MC 2 is still available even after 3 months! In other words, MC2 was a disaster!

Is ALB a Scam?!

Now listen to me carefully. Guru’s make BIG bucks by selling (and sometimes, harassing, abusing, begging and spamming) to their list members. Since they have 1000’s of people on their list, they just need around 100 people to buy the stuff.

In his sales letter video, Michael shows you some proof of his affiliate launch income. He made that money by promoting the stuff to his list; not by using the method that he preaches!

Conclusion:

This is a professionally recorded video course; newbie might find it useful. Since I don’t trust Michael Rasmussen very much I don’t have an affiliate link here. At $200 price tag I somewhat feel that it’s overpriced.

In fact, I’ve written a 20 page PDF manual way back in 2006, which still works. In this guide, I clearly explained how to make money within 3 days without any investment. This works on non-IM and non launch. This guide is available for people who join Wealthy Affiliate.

Ewen Chia is a well known name in the Affiliate marketing world. Ewen is a self proclaimed number 1 super affiliate in the world, though he made a fortune by selling “make money” products! Nevertheless, he started on the Internet as an affiliate marketer and was successful.

I don’t want to call Ewen as a serial IM scammer. He’s a gifted copywriter; always hardworking and gives away lots of stuff for a small fee. He really made a fortune online being an affiliate mentor. He mastered the art of turning all of his customers into affiliates. Ewen is probably one of the first people to provide plenty of marketing resources and tools to their affiliate.

What is Secret Affiliate Weapon 2 or Super Affiliate Weapon?

Ewen’s old product “Secret affiliate weapon 1” (SAW) was a massive success due to low fee and overly hyped mile long sales letter (you don’t see such a long sales letter for a 10 bucks product anywhere!) SAW had many backed sales traps, which made good money for affiliates who promoted it.

The Secret Affiliate Weapon 2 is supposed to teach passive income streams… I.E. working once and getting paid repeatedly. For example, you sell a membership site; in this case, you’ll get paid commission every month as long as your customer stays with the membership site.

Secret Affiliate Weapon Review:

It comes with 4 PDF modules and some video training.

• Module 1 explains “how to choose a business that fits you” (market research)
• Module 2 explains “how to make money as an affiliate” (affiliate marketing)
• Module 3 explains making money with MLM and network marketing (passive income stream)
• Module 4 explains different ways to generate targeted traffic for your website (promoting website)
• The 19 flash videos demonstrate most of the steps. You also get original SAW as a bonus.

Overall, it’s not a useless product. However, as with Ewen’s other product it’s not very useful; the product is not enough for newbie; an intermediate and advanced marketers doesn’t need it! It’s not full and it’s not comprehensive!

With SAW, Ewen is just trying the sell Plug in profit site (PIPS) through his affiliate link. The bonus interview with Stone Evans (the creator of Plug-in-Profit program) is quite useful and refreshing.

Conclusion:

If you have already bought any of Ewen Chia’s previous products you really don’t need this one.  Ewen earns lots of passive income by selling the same product in a different name with slight modification!

Nevertheless, for 10 bucks I can’t complain too much. (Sorry the price gone to $27 now)

For example, popular hosting company, Hostgator pays $100 for each lead if you promote it directly through Commission Junction (CJ.com). If you promote it through AJ you’ll earn only $60; remaining $40 goes to AJ.

Is Affiliate Junk…sorry, Affiliate Jump a scam?

According to many Warriors this product is not yet ready to be sold; lots of bugs and hiccups; poor customer support although MF is nice enough to honor all refund requests.

However, I’ve other concerns.  Those landing pages are very unlikely to get any SEO benefits. The landing pages are nothing more than 3-4 banner ads; almost zero text. The domain would probably get de-indexed by Google for having 100’s duplicate pages. Surely, Google adwords would slap these landing pages with poor quality score if not already.

Alright…. That’s just my thoughts. I haven’t joined Affiliate Jump because I stopped buying stuffs from Mikel Filsaime a decade ago (okay, not necessarily a decade)

The #1 Biggest Problem with Most Google Adwords Campaigns

In my opinion, Google Adwords is possibly the greatest advertising medium developed for business owners, like yourself, in the last 20 years.

As an advertiser using Google Adwords, your goal is that, when someone types a keyword relating to your product or services as a search on Google, your ads will be displayed. The visitor gets taken to your site where they will hopefully sign up for more information or make a purchase.

Instant, measurable, affordable, controllable – there really is no other advertising medium which gives you the same results.

However, set Adwords up in the wrong way and you will spend cash for poor results and you will end up disappointed.

The following describes the #1 biggest problem we see with most Google Adwords campaigns and what you can do to fix it:

Poorly Constructed Webpage/Landing Page

This may seem as though it is unrelated to Adwords, but in fact, this is the cornerstone of every good Adwords campaign. Think about it, what is the point in paying to send traffic to a website which is not compelling and does not generate sales or leads? You might as well take a pile of cash and set light to it.

When we consult with businesses on their Adwords campaigns, we always include a critique of their landing page/website, because we can send the best targeted traffic to a poor website and the results will still be poor.

Several issues to bear in mind when looking at your website/landing page:

Does your site offer something that your target market actually needs or wants? Have you researched your market? Have you made sales already from your site? If not, you should put yourself in your customers shoes and really critique your offering. Does your site/landing page relate to the keywords/ads that sent the visitor to the page otherwise the visitor will hit the back button result, wasted click! Does it include a headline?

You have a fraction of a second to capture the visitors attention the headline needs to hit visitors hot buttons, be relevant and related to the search they performed. Is the site well designed, look professional and easy to navigate? Otherwise, that back button will be used again! Does the site include useful, relevant information that helps the visitor make a decision about the product or service you are offering? Are there multiple ways for the visitor to interact with you?

Do you just offer a phone number and email? Are you collecting leads if the prospects dont purchase right away? If you are not offering multiple methods for a prospect to interact with you, you have no idea whether your site is of interest and no method of performing follow-up marketing. Are conversions set up with your website to capture statistics in Adwords relating to sales and leads? If not, you are flying blind with your campaigns you receive leads/sales but you have no idea which ads/keywords generated the action.

Get your website right before you spend a ton of cash sending traffic to it otherwise you will have nothing to show for the work you have put into your finely tuned Adwords campaign.

Article marketing service is one of the big businesses online though not as big as the pe*is enlargement market! SubmitYourArticle.com (SYA) is one of the oldest article submission services; they are the most expensive too.

Come on… $37 per month for submitting just 8 articles while some people would write and submit an article to 5000 directories for just 10 bucks!

Back in 2006 I joined SYA. Initially, I had to provide my login information for 8 top article directories including eZinearticles.com, Searchwarp.com, Amazines.com etc. Once you provide your login info you are ready to submit articles.

First month I did not submit any article to them because I forgot it! I realized about it the following month when I received the subscription renewal receipt (Shame on me- I’ve this problem of buying stuffs and not using; I also buy lots of IM products and never read!)

The pain of article rejection!

So I wrote a 500 words article and submitted to them. The next day I received “article rejected” mail stating that my article had lots of grammar mistakes, and so it was rejected. Of course I make the grammar mistake because English isn’t my native language. So I hired a guy from Digitalpoint.com forum for 10 bucks who claimed to be native English. From his sample articles and communication, I had with him; I decided that he’s a native English writer.

Let me cut the long story short. My new article got rejected too for the same reason… I really don’t know why!

Then I decided to get an article from top quality service providers. So Googled for “article writing service” and found a Company, who would write a 500 word article for $50.

I received the article and submitted to SYA…and yeah…it finally got approved … thanks god!

They only allow you to submit maximum 8 articles per month. Forget about submitting 8 articles per month; I couldn’t even submit 4 articles. Paying $50 for a simple article is definitely expensive; $10 was what I was willing to pay. So if I have to submit 8 articles, I have to spend $400 just to have it written.

I was active member for another 4-5 months and never submitted more than 3 articles in a month. Then I decided to cancel my subscription because it was expensive and I did not see and significant results.

Delayed dating and love…After 6 months!

After 6 months or so I began to see one of my “diet” sites rising in Google SERp and making few Clickbank sales for me. The site was dying slow death because I didn’t touch the site for almost a year. However, I submitted 2-3 articles to SYA with a link pointing to my site. The same article was published on 100’s of article directories, Websites and e-zines. Those articles still bring me traffic these days.

So I rejoined SYA and continuing my subscription. Out of 10 articles I submit, I see 1 or 2 articles becoming real winner. These articles get published on some of the High authority websites, which bring instant traffic, credibility and long term SEO benefit.

After testing many more articles writing services, I have found 2 places where I get quality articles for just $10 a piece.

Simple…

High quality content – content worth reading.

They have very strict quality standard. They don’t accept articles which other directories would happily accept.

Does the article you submit to Ezinearticle.com or other top directories get published on high authority websites?

Probably not.

There are many positive feed backs on Warrior forum for this service. So I decided to give it a try and bought 10 unique articles on variety of topics. They promised delivery within 7 days. But I had to wait more than 12 days and had to send them reminder. However, I can understand that they were flooded with lots of orders.

Alright, I received 10 articles from them. I have attached two articles below as image so that you can see the quality.

What a piece of gibberish crap! Do you honestly think these articles worth 3 bucks?

Stolen content rewritten. Not actually rewritten – spun using some software! Of course, these articles are human readable, but, it doesn’t make any sense at all.

If you have already bought it then you probably got better (or worsen) than mine. However, this is what you should expect from 99 cents crap writers!

OopenOffice is an awesome application for people who can’t afford Microsoft Office (or people who don’t want to use Microsoft products!) Open Office does almost all the jobs that MS office does (In fact lot more than MS office! )

The most important feature is you can open MSO documents with  OpenOffice. But the problem is you can’t open Open Office documents (.odt) on MS office. As of now Microsoft is not willing to make their software compatible with Open source rival!

Adeel Chowdery, a talented graphic designer turned online marketer made some money online by leaching mega IM products launches. He also created some IM products and offered many of them on Warrior Forum as a special offer with discount.

Now that Adeel partnered with Bobby Walker (I don’t know this guy) and credited the next BIG thing (?!) on IM industry, Mass article control, an article rewriting and submission software which is supposed to make life easy for article marketer…

However, I suspect its effectiveness…seriously.

I installed both the software (Article re-writer and Article submitter) The article rewrite software seems to be complicated and requires some training. Since I’m busy with some other things I didn’t get time to watch all those videos…a straight forward PDF manual would have been a great time saver for many marketers.

Overall, I really don’t know if the article rewriting software is better than some other tools I use.  So I’ll write a detailed review of the rewrite software soon…

Mass Article submitter:

This software is easy to install, easy to understand and lot easy to use. But unfortunately, it’s just another USELESS software dumped during 2009!

Let me explain it…

The article submitter would submit your article to 20 article directories including ezinearticles, goarticles and amazines.com etc (those popular) Most of the popular article directories are human edited. They don’t accept duplicate content.

Initially I thought that article submitter would submit 20 unique articles to those 20 directories. But I was wrong…it submits the same article to all the directories. We already have 100’s similar software programs.

If you don’t know already, try submitting an article to ezinearticles.com which is already published elsewhere. EA won’t accept your article… in addition to that they would ban your account for submitting duplicate content! And majority of human edited article directories don’t accept duplicate content

So I really don’t understand why online marketers sell these types of worthless craps.

This is is our story of how we created a breakthrough video camera app for the iPhone only to have our hopes unfairly crushed by Apple.

In October, we started development on iVidCam, a video recording app for the iPhone. We invested a lot of capital and resources because we knew if we got a video camera app working, then it would be an instant hit. By January, we had finished the mp4 video encoding engine, but we needed a way to take multiple pictures per second to make video.

In February, our breakthrough came. Apple featured 25shot, an app that took 25 pictures in 5 seconds. The app used a custom camera view and took 5 screenshots per second. Our team studied the app and integrated the same function into iVidCam. We saw Apple’s featuring 25shot on the front page of the App Store as a signal to developers that this function was highlighted and encouraged by Apple.

In March, we finished development of iVidCam and even added wireless transfer and YouTube upload functions to the app. We were confident that this app would go #1 in the App Store. It had everything users wanted – a functional video camera app, mp4 encoding, wireless transfer, and YouTube upload of the recorded videos. We posted the app to iTunesConnect for Apple approval on March 27. Several days later we were shocked to discover Apple had rejected the app due to what they said was an "unpublished API."

The same day we called the highest management person at Apple we knew, John Geleynse. We met him at the L.A. Tech Talk last year and he appeared to be the main iPhone evangelist. We thought that he could surely help us. On the phone, he was cordial and even agreed with us that talking to the regular reviewers was not going to do anything. He told us to email him an email stating our case with specifics and that he would forward it to Lead of the App Review Team. He assured us this was the way to go.

We emailed John Geleynse the same day. And this was the beginning of almost 2 months of being ignored, neglected and overlooked by Apple. Our emails to the Lead of the App Review Team were not being directly responded to. We asked for dialogue, and they gave us no personal replies but sent us form letters intead. Throughout this process, we were committed to working with Apple and not complaining publicly. We wanted to give every opportunity for Apple to address our concerns. Apple deeply disappointed us by ignoring us for months.

By mid-May we had reached the point of exasperation. Our efforts to dialogue with Apple, their main iPhone evangelist, and the Lead of the App Review Team had led to nothing. We decided to try one more time with Apple, this time writing to the highest management possible, Steve Jobs. Here’s our May 18th letter to Steve Jobs that we asked several high management people at Apple to make sure it got to him:

We ended up getting a reply from Senior VP Phil Schiller, who ironically is going to be giving the keynote speech at June 8, 2009 WWDC where Apple could announce their own video camera app for the iPhone. Phil Schiller’s email and following correspondence ended up to be another big disappointment. Apple never took us seriously and refused to dialogue with us on the issues we brought up.

After two months of being unable to dialogue with Apple, we learned that perhaps we were just too insignificant in Apple’s eyes. Even though we had published hundreds of iPhone apps in the App Store, we were just one developer with a complaint in Apple’s eyes. We decided to draft a petition letter to end the unfair practice of rejecting custom camera view apps by Apple.

And finally, we’ve decided to share our story publicly. Maybe Apple will change if enough people let them know they don’t agree with how they’ve handled this situation. We can no longer do it by ourselves, we need your help.

In closing, this saga has seeded many doubts about the partnership that Apple has with developers like us.

1. Our company has been damaged and devastated.

We’ve spent the majority of our resources on iVidCam, only to see it unjustly rejected and Apple closed to dialogue. It’s frustrating especially since we were big fans of Apple and our company of 6 iphone developers has been committed to developing iPhone apps and working with Apple. We were counting on iVidCam sales. Now our company is struggling to break even and we’re at the unenviable place of deciding whether continuing to develop for the iPhone is sustainable or not.

2. It doesn’t feel good to be disrespected, neglected, and misled as a developer.

It’s been a stressful process because we’ve tried our best to communicate and reach out to Apple, only to be ignored and not treated as a true dialogue partner. If Apple treats developers like this now, what is the future of Apple-and-developers relations? In our case, we feel like Apple misled us, changed the rules arbitrarily, and punished us for trying to be good iPhone developers that work within the system. Ironically, our company has been committed 100% to developing for the non-jailbroken iPhone, only to be punished by Apple. And if Apple comes out with their own video camera app on June 8, 2009 at WWDC, it will be a sad day for us and also thousands of developers. The App Store is not a good system when the people in charge can do whatever they want with no accountability, even at the loss and damage of other parties.

3. What’s a published API?

One of the key issues in our story is what constitutes a "published API"? We’ve stated this over and over to Apple, but we believe that one of the strongest publishing mechanisms they have is the front page of the App Store. Apple appears to meticulously choose which apps to feature. The featured apps encourage users to buy them and developers to develop them. In this case, Apple featured 25shot in February and QuadCam in May, along with approving dozens of custom camera view apps in between. These featured apps appeared to millions of iPhone users on their desktop and also on their iPhones (AppStore). If these apps were using an "unpublished API", then why were they featured multiple times on the front page of the App Store? And why were dozens of these apps approved? If Apple was wrong in featuring these apps, then they misled developers like us to spend tons of capital and resources in development. Regardless, by featuring these apps, Apple clearly implicitly published the use of these APIs to millions of users and developers. And by continuously featuring these apps, Apple strengthened their published position of the custom camera api usage.

This tip is going to be very quick and useful. No matter which computer you are using or web mastering skills. Before publishing anything on your wordpress (or other) blog please save it as a draft first; or better save it on a notepad!

Today my wife spent around 3 hours writing an article on wordpres editor; she didn’t save her post either on blog or externallly (like notepad or MS word) After finishing the article she clickedon "Publish" button. At the same time my webiste host were doing some database upgrade. So the connection to the databse failed…t

The end result?

My wife’s 3 hours work gone!

And she started moaning at me!

Further pain: Today afternoon I was upgrading my wordpress version on one of my other blog… and guess what?

Everything corrupted!

I reinstalled older version of wordpress; Current version and New Beta version

Nothing works…getting blank screen…

Lesson learned.
