Is Christian Carter a Scam? Book Review of Catch Him and Keep Him

A lot of women have asked me recently what I thought of Christian Carter’s book, Catch Him and Keep Him. Should they buy it? What was it like? Is he cute?

Let me answer the most important question first: yes, Christian Carter is cute! He’s fair-haired and good-looking in that sunkissed California kind of way. For any of you who’ve seen his DVD series on “Natural and Lasting Attraction,” you’ll know what I mean.

He’s a genuinely great guy who also happens to be a great catch. He’s the kind of guy that you imagine would have been nice to the girls who liked him in school, even if he didn’t like them back. This guy has his life sorted, amazing women around him, and an enormous heart that’s truly concerned about why women out there aren’t getting the relationships they want.

On to the next question: what is the book like?

It’s an inside look into how men think, from the perspective of a good-looking guy who’s been there, done that.

I find the maleness of the book overwhelming. This isn’t written by a fatherly counselor or a gay best guy friend: Christian Carter is very much in touch with his masculinity, and he pulls no punches. He tells you what guys are like: the bare bald facts that most of us don’t want to hear.

In our hearts, I think many of us wish that men could be more like women. We wish that men could enjoy talking about their feelings more, could give up their addictions to toys and start getting hooked on family, even enjoy shopping with us more than a few times a year.

According to Christian, that sort of thinking has to stop. Men live in a different reality, and it is our job as women to understand where men are coming from without judgement.

In order to assist you with sorting the wheat from the chaff, Christian gives you a valuable taxonomy of the kinds of guys out there who’ll steal your heart. Learn how to recognize a Player and the motives that drive them to play with hearts. Find yourself challenged to consider why you’re attracted to strong, dominant unavailable men and bad boys … exactly the sort of men who will not make good relationship material.

One of Christian’s central themes is the importance of understanding your emotional responses and acting on them appropriately. He challenges women to look at how flimsy their intuitive sense of a “connection” with a man really is: e.g., while the woman is sure he’s “the One” and planning their wedding invitations after the first date, he’s just thinking what a great gal she is and how great the sex will be. Christian injects a note of reality:

“You’d be crazy to take the close relationship and love you want to find and gamble it away by betting on a guy whose greatest qualification is that he makes you feel attracted to him.” (p.33)

Christian challenges you to be realistic about your expectations and assess your “emotional fitness.” Do you take responsibility for your life, or do you play the victim? Are you a “cool girl” or a “hysterical woman”? His list of Cool Girl Do’s and Don’ts struck home. He’s right on the money about the kind of girl guys think is a great catch.

He spends a great deal of time detailing the difference between the kind of girl guys see as casual hookups and the kind of girl that men will view as long-term relationship material. Girls, if you let yourself get walked all over by guys and sleep with them in hopes that your sexual intimacy will lead to emotional intimacy, you need to read this.

Finally, the question is: should you buy Christian Carter’s book?

I would give it my thumbs-up for one reason in particular: the fantastic “Interviews with Dating & Relationships Experts” CDs included free as a bonus with the Catch Him and Keep Him e-book.

Why? Well, I’ve read a lot of dating books. I prefer the hard science of Helen Fisher or the psychological insight of Harville Hendrix, both Ph.D.s in their respective fields. Yet for an e-book, Christian Carter’s publication stands out: Catch Him and Keep Him is professional, well-written, and great value for money (it’s 183 pages).

What Christian Carter’s package does offer that other hardcopy books don’t is an amazing set of audio CDs in which Christian interviews dating and relationship experts and asks them the most common questions women have. The audio experience adds a dimension to the information that you can’t get from a book. And you get a month’s subscription to the CD series FREE when you buy Catch Him and Keep Him.

Some of the options that Hookup.com gives you to signup with in terms of your intent are depending on what you’re looking for, if you’re a single person or a couple, and your intent.

You can sign up as either a Man, Woman, Couple or Group.

“Looking for” section has options for Man, Woman, Couple or Group as well.

“I’m interested in” section has checkboxes for Online Dating (I’d rather go to Match.com for online dating), Erotic Chat/Email (Sexy Penpals?), Discreet Relationships (Perhaps for married people looking for affairs), 1-on-1 sex (Looking for standard person-to-person sex), Fun (That’s pretty ambigious… Fun?), and Group sex – 3 or more (Orgies).

Languages available at Hookup.com include Español, Français, Deutsch, Português, Italiano, Nederlands, Svenska, and Tagalog.

If we’re honest with each other, if you’re looking for online dating, I wouldn’t recommend Hookup.com. You’re much better spending your money at Match.com if you’re looking for a boyfriend or girlfriend or just serial dating.

If you’re looking for casual sex, Hookup.com may be an option.

If you’re looking for live web cams of women stripping and doing live sex shows, then Hookup.com is definitely a great option for you.

The problem with Hookup.com when it comes to true online dating is that there’s a ton of shills, upsells, and fake profiles. If you’re looking for real dates, head over to Match.com – you’ll find real men and women looking for the same things you are.

Hookup.com seems to be more of a “camwhore” website, not a casual sex dating site. Be careful of fake messages on Hookup.com as it has been known to happen that there are paid people at Hookup.com to send fake messages. I’m not saying that’s going to happen to you at Hookup.com – but it might.

The design is really top-notch – easy to navigate and find out where to go. It’s a clean look, good structure and intuitive. Everything looks integrated well and you can tell the design and arrangement was very well thought-out – unlike other websites that just kind of paste different things together without regard to a uniform consistent look.

As far as webcam shows – Hookup.com really delivers if you’re looking for “camwhores”. By registering as a Hookup.com member, you’ll get access to regularly scheduled FREE (public) camshows. They are not private but they are very explicit – great deal for free as many other websites charge $4 a minute oftentimes for them. This more than pays for your Hookup.com membership. Grand Theft Auto San Andreas Hot Coffee Mod: Lawsuits & Scandals

“Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas” is being pulled out from the shelves after Entertainment Software Ratings Board reissues their rating under “Adults Only”. Game makers admitted including explicit interactive sex scenes on the game. This move from the game makers earned them a stern warning on their bestselling title.

The ratings were changed from a “Mature” rating, equivalent to an R movie rating, while “Adults Only” is equivalent to NC-17.

For weeks the company denied having placed explicit scenes as part of its unlockable features. This is done by downloading a software online. The scenes were entitled by designers as “Hot Coffee” was finally acknowledged later on.

Take-Two entertainment attempts to justify the insertion of such features to that of a painting with hidden art made by a master who paints over the same canvas to preserve another work of art. This issued attempt by Walker, the company’s spokesperson, was not well received.

With the violent nature of the game itself, the issue simply pressed on the fact that the game is not simply just violent, but also highly sexual. The fact does not do well for “Grand Theft Auto” who competes in the $25-billion game industry race for profits against its competitors.

Such move by Take-Two Interactive is believed to be a marketing strategy aimed to deceive the rating board, as well as parents of those who play and buy the game. Being the top-selling game, they have made interactive pornography easily available to thousands of children. State Representative Mary Lou Dickerson insists that they should be held responsible and should pay for the consequences of their actions in the legal system.

The game sold for around $50 has made roughly 12 million copies worldwide since it was released. “Mature” rated games are intended for 17 years and above, where retailers check for identification from buyers to verify their ages.

Wal-Mart and Best Buy Co. has removed the games from their stands, both stating that they have policies not to carry adult titles. They also assured that games can be returned and refunded should the customers want to. Take-Two, on the other hand, promised to make a patch for the game to block the sex scenes.

As word about the hidden scenes spread like wildfire all over the Internet, after Patrick Wildenbourg from the Netherlands distributed software to unlock them. Video games often have secret levels or powers, which are accessed after meeting all the necessary steps to them.

In this case, “Hot Coffee” offers interactive oral sex and intercourse within the game. Windenbourg refused to comment regarding his software and has removed it from the Internet.

At the beginning, Take-Two denied the existence of such content and said that it was their detractors who are attempting to alter the game. The release of the issue aroused game critics such as former First Lady Hilary Clinton to call for a federal investigation against the game company.

A re-rating for the “San Andreas” game is being called for the PlayStation 2, Microsoft Xbox, and PC platforms versions. This is due to the confirmation of the explicit content in all the unaltered final discs of the game.

Take-Two’s spokesperson claims that the addition was not meant for public consumption until it was unlocked by a programmer outside their company.

The revelation caused for the company shares to drop by 11% just hours after the spread of the news, and a potential $40 million of lost sales should they decide to modify and remarket the game.

The release of the game’s secret has cost the company a vast amount of money due to negligence and error of judgment.

Previous versions of “Grand Theft Auto” made a name for their detailed violence and sex. One of their games rated as “Mature” implies sex through a car rocking back and forth.

Much like the game makers, the ratings board also received criticism since they were not able to detect the hidden scenes in the game when it was reviewed. The voluntary ratings system then is being viewed to be a failure after this case.

Parents remain skeptical despite assurance given by the executives regarding the anomalous incident with “San Andreas”. It is being claimed by the ratings board that the incident is the first in 11 years. Despite figures being enough to reassure parents, the incident has tarnished the ratings board’s track records.

In such an industry where consumers being children and their parents, parents now challenge the board after taking their stand against the incident to step up and gain back their confidence.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is available for Windows XP/Vista/7, Xbox, and PS2.

Hookup 3D Game: The Virtual Sexgame To Download & Play With Yourself

Hook Up 3D is a video game that was developed in 2005-2006 and it’s a XXX (Triple X) Sex Simulator.

This is officially the first time I’ve ever played or reviewed a game like this

It’s a freeware game (meaning free to download – as far as I can tell) and it’s about 125 MB in size.

It’s a sex video game about having “real 3D sex”, except that it’s characters on a screen, it’s not really you having sex.

It supposedly simulates “real classic love” where you can fulfill all of your “deviations and liberties” – all you need is a virtual man, a virtual woman, and your imagination.

You get 3 different characters to choose from, 3 men and 3 women. You also get 3 choices as to the environment you want to have your virtual sexual rendezvous.

You choose the “lovers” you want and the “theme room” before you start, as well as the graphics quality settings which are adjustable in the game menu before you begin.

Once you start the game, the game menu opens up. In this menu you’ll find various icons in the lower left corner of the screen which allow you to more or less influence what the “virtual lovers” do on the screen. There’s over 80 different “moves” you can have them do. If you don’t press a button, don’t worry, they’ll get it on. Other interesting customizations you can do is choose the positions the lovers do – there’s 8 different positions to choose from.

All types of virtual sex are covered: foreplay, oral sex, and the actual sex act. You can choose from different angles and perspectives – you have full control over the camera.

Simon the Sorcerer: Interactive Video Game Fantasy With An Attitude

Simon the Sorcerer is one of those games that has been on my backlist for quite some time. I’d heard good things about the series, including that it was “very British.” Now that I’ve played through both the first and second of these games, I can see why people associate these games so strongly with their country of origin: All the actors have strong British accents, and many of the idioms are baffling to an American. “Naff to you?” I’ve watched a lion’s share of Python, Red Dwarf, and so on, and while I could guess most of these things from context, I sometimes felt I was reading something by Anthony Burgess.

In short, and to put it very unkindly, the Simon series tries to copy the successful formula employed by LucasArts. You play an adolescent (only slightly more mature than Guybrush Threepwood) who wants to be a wizard almost as badly as Guybrush wants to be a pirate. The voice acting in the first game is by Chris Barrie (Rimmer from Red Dwarf), who does a great job with the dialogue. The same zany, irreverent humor of the LucasArts games is here in abundance, with truckloads of self-references and pop culture allusions. Fourth wall? This game doesn’t just break it; it doesn’t have one. Simon and the characters he meets constantly speak directly to the player and refer him to the game itself, the GAG genre, its origins and associations, and the culture of the typical gamer. Some of these are quite witty and inspired, though other jokes fall flat. Much of this comes through in the dialogue, which is presented in an interface identical to the Secret of Monkey Island. Probably the funniest scene occurs in the second game, where Simon encounters a D&D group. However, since this D&D group is from a distinctly fantastic place, they are role-playing as computer geeks and business executives from our dimension. Most of the jokes here are below the belt and quite mean-spirited, but I couldn’t help but chuckle.

I suppose the questionable humor is where Simon began to lose me. The first game manages to be witty without being boorish. The sequel, however, is often victim to rather poor taste. In the first game, Simon is saucy but also incompetent; rather like Rowan Atkinson’s Blackadder (3rd season). He’s able to make fun of himself and the player in a good-natured way. In the second game, Simon tends to come across as a conceited jerk (and a sexist one at that), and just isn’t much fun to play. This misogynistic streak just seems out of place and really ruins the experience.

The first game suffers from pixel hunting to a small degree; thankfully. The poor resolution means that small objects will be hard to see. The second game remedies this in a brilliant way. Players can hit F10 to flash the hotspots, or areas of the screen that can be manipulated. This is a very handy feature, and I only wish more games would implement it. It’d definitely reduce the stress involved with scanning each pixel of the screen to find some tiny but mission-critical hairpin.

The puzzles in both games vary from easy to moderate, and I only had to consult a hint site four times (and for very minor points). Some critics have complained that many of the puzzles were unrelated to the story; indeed, most of them had a distinct “fetch quest” quality (that the game mocked on several occasions).

Players who enjoy witty British humor and the Scumm interface of The Secret of Monkey Island will likely enjoy the first Simon game immensely. I know I did. The sequel is a bit disappointing, but not a complete disaster. There is also a third Simon game (Simon 3D), but from what I’ve heard, it’s a stinker.

Disney’s A Christmas Carol (2009) Starring Jim Carrey Movie Review

In this animated adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol, Ebenezer Scrooge (Jim Carrey) is a penny-pinching Christmas-hating miser 7 years after the death of his business partner Jacob Marley (Gary Oldman). But this Christmas Eve he is visited by three spirits that show Scrooge his past present and future in an attempt to change the old man’s heart.

We’re in a brave new frontier of animated storytelling where, led by Pixar, traditional cartoons are now really just animated films with the wit, imagination, intelligence and emotional resonance of their live-action counter-parts. If not more so. But Robert Zemeckis seems to be out of the loop on that, instead on another frontier pushing forth that the American new wave of animation will come not through the warmth and strength of the storytelling, but from more advanced animated technology. Motion-capture technology that turns actors into CGI robots. Delivering eye-popping details of chin stubble and side-walk cracks at the expense of creating an emotional attachment with the characters.

The spiritual and technological sequel to Zemeckis’ The Polar Express, A Christmas Carol delivers an entertaining, fairly straightforward adaptation of the Dickens classic, but it’s a cold effort that exhibits the worst in how motion capture and 3D technology can creep in and undermine your story. Zemeckis’ vision of Carol sticks to the material faithfully. You’ll hear all of the classic lines from the story and every adaptation since, from the Alistair Sim classic to the loved Mickey’s Christmas Carol. And for little one’s, this version would make a fine introduction to the writing of Dickens, when his words do appear. Zemeckis’ visual interpretation is also faithful in several instances. I did love that the Ghost of Christmas future was depicted just as a silent shadow instead of the hooded, talking figure some versions have morphed him into.

In fact, the movie starts off wonderfully, taking us on an epic pass through the streets and rooftops of Christmas-time London. It’s when it narrows down to Scrooge and the spirit business at hand where if starts to feel both narratively claustrophobic and visually grandstanding. Zemeckis uses the motif that the spirits take Scrooge on a journey through time and space to whisk the audience out windows, over vast landscapes, under tunnels and through drain pipes and down roofs. It’s thrilling to watch, but it also feels like Zemeckis starts to only hit the high points of the story so he can move onto another visual rollercoaster moment instead of using that to expand Scrooge’s universe and the scope of the story as the movie did so well in the opening. I would have loved to have gotten more of how Scrooge’s greedy ways effected the entire town, that his behavior extended beyond grieving over the death of a friend, and this would have been the perfect adaptation to do that.

A Christmas Carol makes for a perfect example of how a movie catering to a 3D format can absolutely choke the life out of it’s story. Zemeckis’ Scrooge is continually turned into a slapstick baffoon, suffering all sorts of falls and thrown from heights that an old man’s body would never stand up to. Diverting from the story several times to take Scrooge on a Donald Duck-styled bit of slapstick, Scrooge is rocketed into the sky or slides down a roof and gets hit in the face with icicles. This is supposed to be a rigid, angry, unsympathetic formidable figure and Zemeckis has turned the character into a rag doll to throw cool things at the audience in 3D. It’s like Zemeckis is at war with part of himself that wants to make a stern serious adaptation and part of him that wants to turn A Christmas Carol into an action movie. It doesn’t fit to say the least.

But for all of Zemeckis’ loony demands, Jim Carrey certainly seems up for the task for any of it. His voice performance here as Scrooge (barely recognizable as himself) is some of Carrey’s best work in years. Throw onto that he is also voicing the ghosts of Christmas Past and Present and it’s an undeniably impressive piece of work for the actor. A promising 2nd career for an actor whose physical comedy seems to have out lived it’s prime. That may sound like a backhanded compliment but it’s true. Carrey has been floundering around for year’s now trying to find a groove between drama and comedy, but he is terrific in A Christmas Carol.

While it feels truncated, panders to 3D technology and doesn’t quite elicit the warm, crackling fire feelings of Christmas joy that other versions of this story have, Robert Zemeckis’ A Christmas Carol is still an entertaining watch and very often a fun and visually creative ride. It’s not a great movie, but it’s still a really good Christmas movie.

Disney’s magical and enchanting fairy tale love story, Beauty and the Beast rolled into my city this week. To say this production was good would be an understatement.

As a huge Disney fan, I have seen the story of Beauty and the Beast countless times. Heck, a few months ago, I paid $10 to see the 20th Anniversary theatrical re-release of it, just so I could watch it one more time on the big screen.

All that to say–Although I was sure this was going to be a fun Disney night out, I was also sure it was going to be something I’d seen time and time again. Imagine my surprise when I realized this was going to be fun and not something I’d seen time and time again.

The play was amazing. The scenery classic and wonderful. The performers–right on cue. I was instantly drawn in, taken to another place, and entertained for a solid three hours (with an one intermission of course).

The story itself is a classic one…discovering love where you least expect it. Living your provincial life and then, unexpectedly, from a place you didn’t expect–there it is. A gift handed to you, though cleverly cloaked in layers waiting to be opened. But once the gift is opened, you begin to see all the world differently (as Belle told her Father). A true and timeless story of finding love. How do you argue with a plot like that?

Yes, it’s a timeless, classic fairy tale. Something that Disney is known for telling and something they do extraordinary well.

Beauty & The Beast Actors

This touring production of the Broadway hit, Beauty and the Beast, is no exception. Disney leaves nothing to chance. Each actor picked is superb and a perfect fit for the role they were chosen for. Take, for example, Liz Shivener as Belle.

Liz grew up loving the Disney films of her youth, but she was only four when the animated classic was first released, “I loved Belle. She’s my favorite Disney princess because she stands for something…she’s a substantial role model because she’s a very strong woman, and it’s cool to be a part of that.”

Liz executes the roll beautifully. In true fashion, her voices “rings” of Disney Princess talent. Each song is sung almost exactly like the movie, and you don’t feel shorted or out of sync at all. Superb. Passed my strict Disney requirements almost immediately.

Film vs Play

How is the stage production different from the film? Well, it’s not that different really–it’s the same story but with some new and added material. You will get to see Cogsworth before he was a clock (i.e., before the winding mechanism was added onto his back) and you’ll witness a tender scene between Belle and her Father. There are also a few new songs mixed in, but they won’t detach you from the story line of the movie. Each one is just as delightful as as the orginal score. (Tim Rice wrote the lyrics to these new songs after Howard Ashman’s passing.)

This production has currently played to over 35 million people worldwide in over 21 countries.

One thing I do want to remind you of if you go see this production–there are a few “dark” scenes in the play. So make sure you prepare young children ahead of time. There are also a few scary scenes such as when the Beast loses his temper. A little girl sitting behind us screamed and started crying. The Beast immediately calms down and explains his anger and apologizes, which does help small children see him as something more than a big, scary Beast, but just beware that a few of these scenes do exist.

Other than that, I definitely think you should try and go , if you can, before it leaves town. Disney’s touring production of Beauty and the Beast was made with all the same magic Disney musters every day in every thing it does. Little girls (and boys) will enjoy it, and adults will be immersed in the sheer beauty and story of it. Go on…take the family or make it an adult night out. However, you get there–get there. Run, don’t walk. It’s that good.
