Nokia Booklet 3G Reviews

2009-11-23T05:22:00.000-08:00

Nokia first announced their Netbook 3G, expectations were mixed. After all, Nokia defined the mobile phone space but they’ve hardly been good at expanding out of the handset market.

Mobile phone maker Nokia is jumping into the Netbook pool with its recently announced Booklet 3G laptop, offering a premium-feeling system for a rock-bottom price, as long as you agree to a two-year AT&T mobile data contract.

The last computers made by Nokia were in the 1980s, but the Booklet 3G isn’t actually made by Nokia. Nobody will tell us who the manufacturer is, but we aren’t that bothered because the design is 100 per cent Nokia.

The Booklet 3G is easily one of the most upscale-looking Netbooks we've seen. It feels solid and well-built in your hands, without being too heavy. Also a good sign: the AT&T mobile broadband service connects automatically, and the process was wonderfully transparent, especially compared with the software setup and manual log-ins required by other mobile broadband laptops. On the down side, the slower Intel Atom Z530 CPU shaves just enough performance off of the already pokey Netbook experience to be frustrating.

This is an exciting move. Let’s go through the announced features:

- 12 hour battery life. Impressive.
- 1.25kg (Lighter than a MacBook Air’s 1.36kg)
- A-GPS
- 10.1″ screen
- 2cm thick when closed (”19.9mm”)
- WiFi (b/g)
- Integrated 3G mobile broadband
- Microsoft Windows
- Ovi services
- HDMI out
- USB ports & SD card slot
- Bluetooth
- Front-facing webcam
- Rumour: Hot-swappable SIM slot

Nokia E75 Reviews

2009-11-23T05:11:00.000-08:00

Nokia releases a lot of mobiles. And many times, if you aren't really paying attention, this company will slide under your nose something like the Nokia E75 -- the kind of device that grabs and keeps your attention.

This is a good thing, except that you won't find this device in a carrier store. Which is a shame, because in build and performance the E75 touches the bar a bit higher than even the highly-regarded Nokia E71 released last year.

Announced in February 2009, Nokia E75 was made available in few European countries in April 2009. The rest of the countries will probably have it until the end of May.

The new Nokia E75 comes with a 2.4-inch QVGA LCD display, a 3.2 Megapixel camera, WiFi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.0, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The E75 has A-GPS support and Nokia Maps. It has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

Stereo FM Radio 87.5-108 MHz with Visual Radio and RDS.
3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, 8x digital zoom, LED flash and geotagging support.
Front facing camera for video calls with MPEG-4.
Modes: Define user preset standby screens for different times of the day.
QWERTY sliding keyboard
Numeric keypad
WiFi 802.11b/g WLAN networking
Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR
High-Speed microUSB 2.0 support charging/data

Nokia E72 Reviews

2009-11-23T04:37:00.000-08:00

the first time, Nokia E72 cell phone owners will be able to set up instant messaging (IM) accounts provided by Nokia Messaging direct from the homescreen. In just a few steps, Nokia E72 mobile phone owners will be able to connect to their favorite IM accounts such as Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk and Ovi, amongst many others. These new IM features are complimented by Nokia's range of email solutions with a lifetime license for Nokia's mobile email and IM service, Nokia Messaging, as well as onboard clients for Mail for Exchange and IBM Lotus Notes Traveler.

The Nokia E72 has similar quality with E71 of course with some added and improved changes..The Nokia E72 comes to succees the E71. The smartphone boasts some nice features, such as a 5-megapixel camera, 3.5mm jack and fast 10.2Mbps HSDPA. It also has a compass and a new messaging application.

he Nokia E72 has got almost the same features as its younger brother Nokia E71 - Wifi, Bluetooth, HSDPA, UMTS and a QWERTY keyboard. If you do not have too thick fingers can easily handle them. Besides these features there is a big old camera upgrade implemented, ie 5 megapixels, the camera’s maximum resolution is 2592 x 1944 pixels, unfortunately there is still no optical zoom on this Nokia.

Nokia E72 is the perfect smartphone or PDA for any business individual on the go. Only 128 grams in size and with a form thickness of 10mm, the Nokia E72 is built to last years. The four corners are rounded quite a bit and the keys are positioned a bit higher than its predecessor Nokia E71.

E72 is compatible with Microsoft Exchange E-Mail systems and the Lotus Notes Traveler which makes it a powerful device to manage all your e-mail accounts and their respective attachments centrally from your E72 PDA device. In general all POP3 and IMAP based e-mail networks should work with E72’s email client. It also supports HTML mail, multiple E-mail accounts integration, forwards, etc.

Performance improvements are evident throughout the user experience including faster Internet up- and downlink speeds. Other notable cell phone features which should make the Nokia E72 handset as popular as recent Nokia Eseries introductions include A-GPS and compass with integrated Maps, including lifetime walk and 10 days of turn-by-turn navigation if activated within the first three months. Conversations are also clearer with active noise cancellation, and a torch can be activated with a single press of the spacebar key. The office capabilities have been updated with a new version of Quickoffice, which delivers Microsoft Office 2007 compatibility as well as free version upgrades when new features become available.

Dell Inspiron Mini 10 Netbook

2009-11-20T07:13:00.000-08:00

Dell entered the netbook market last year with the 8.9-inch Inspiron Mini 9 and has since released a range of increasingly larger models. The Inspiron Mini 10 is its 10.1-inch netbook and strikes a great balance between mobility and usability.

Dell pushes the upper echelons of netbookitude with the Mini 10. It's a little laptop whose Atom processor marks it as a populist ultraportable, but whose 10-inch, wide-format display and HDMI port reveal more aristocratic ambitions.

Dell's popular Mini 10 is the most customizable Netbook we've seen. Adding extras such as a higher-resolution display makes it more useful, but also blurs the price line between Netbooks and mainstream laptops. High-end extras including a higher-resolution screen and HDMI output; very configurable, for a Netbook, including optional mobile broadband.

According to Sprint, the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 features embedded EV-DO Rev. A wireless service to give Sprint customers an expected average upload speeds of 350-500 kbps and download speeds of between 600 kbps and 1.4 mbps. Peak download data rates increase to 3.1 Mbps (from 2.4 Mbps), while peak upload data rates increase to 1.8 Mbps (from 153 kbps), enabling customers to easily take advantage of robust Internet applications and services like wireless VoIP, high-speed video telephone, music on-demand as well as video messaging.

There’s thankfully little wasted space in the keyboard tray, with wide, flat keys going nearly edge-to-edge. Unlike Dell’s earliest 9-inch Netbooks, there are no missing keys or major space compromises, and important keys, such as the Shift, Tab, and Ctrl keys, are relatively full-size. The narrow wrist rest keeps the system from extending out too far and becoming unwieldy, but that requires a long, letterbox-style touch pad, with the mouse buttons integrated directly into the lower left and right corners of the pad. It’s far from our preferred Netbook touch pad, but better than the similar long touch pad with buttons on the far sides found on HP’s Mini 110.

Review Apple MacBook Aluminium Notebook

2009-11-20T06:42:00.000-08:00

Apple actually introduces a 13.3" MacBook Pro with the new Aluminium MacBook. In contrast to its bigger brother this smaller consumer laptop does neither have a dedicated graphics card nor FireWire nor ExpressCard slot. In this review you'll find out whether this new design notebook is to be recommended.

Like the MacBook Pro, the MacBook follows the same tapered design first seen in the MacBook Air; however, it is rounder on the edges than other laptops in the MacBook line. This model has a glossy palm rest that is fingerprint-friendly and also uses a multi-touch glass trackpad like the one found on the MacBook Pro. The bottom of the MacBook features a rubberized non-slip finish. The built-in battery, as introduced earlier in the year to the MacBook Pro models, lasts seven hours over the five hours in the older models.

The 17" Unibody MacBook Pro (MBP) is the current flagship of the Apple notebook series and is therefore also the most powerful mobile notebook with Mac OS X. Furthermore, Apple is advertising the laptop as the thinnest and lightest 17" computer in the world. Indeed, one would normally find only 15-16" notebooks weighing up to 3kg as the MBP

In addition to the standard configuration (17" 1920x1200 wide gamut display, Unibody case, 95 Wh battery, GeForce 9600M GT) some additional features can be configured in the online store. For example, there's an optional, faster Core 2 Duo with 2.93 GHz, 8 GB RAM, or different hard drives and SSDs. Additionally you can also have a matte display, which replaces the shapely glass panel with an aluminium border. This costs an additional 45 Euro and is in our opinion a good investment.

Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 2.0GHz CPU with 25 Watt TDP
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M IGP with shared memory
13" WXGA High-Definition Display With 1280 x 800 Resolution
120GB SATA Hard Drive (5400 RPM)
2GB 667MHz DDR2 System Memory (dual channel mode)
Superdrive 8X DVD±R/RW with Double Layer Support
OS X 10.5
iWork 09 (pre-installed)

Microsoft and Nokia to Bring Office Mobile to Nokia Devices

2009-11-20T06:33:00.000-08:00

Microsoft and Nokia today announces an alliance, which will begin collaborating immediately on the design, development and marketing of productivity solutions for the mobile professional, bringing Microsoft Office Mobile and Microsoft business communications, collaboration and device management software to Nokia’s Symbian devices. These solutions will be available for a broad range of Nokia smartphones starting with the company’s business-optimized range, Nokia Eseries.

Nokia is planning to offer to its Nokia E Series phone users a version of Office Mobile; a version of Office Communicator Mobile (Microsoft’s corporate instant messaging service for mobile devices), System Center device management service and other Microsoft collaboration services.

The E Series are just the first phones to which Nokia plans to bring the Microsoft services; it will expand availability across its portfolio to other Nokia Symbian phones over time.

Under the terms of the agreement, the two companies will begin collaborating immediately on the design, development and marketing of productivity solutions for the mobile professional, bringing Microsoft Office Mobile and Microsoft business communications, collaboration and device management software to Nokia's Symbian devices. These solutions will be available for a broad range of Nokia smartphones starting with the company's business-optimized range, Nokia Eseries. The two companies will also market these solutions to businesses, carriers and individuals.

Both Microsoft Corp. and Nokia possess a rare combination of enterprise experience and consumer understanding and, in addition to the collaboration on existing software and services, will use these assets to jointly design a range of new user experiences for future Nokia devices. These experiences will be identified together, and will be created by dedicated teams inside both companies to better meet the growing needs of the mobile professional.

Many cell phones are trying to incorporate applications like the iPhone has. To do this, Nokia has added the capabilities of viewing and editing all of your personal or business Office files. This new application is becoming very popular for all people for are looking to make things more convenient and productive. There are currently more than 200 million Smartphone users globally, so making this application useful to all those users will soon give Nokia a huge success in the mobile industry. The alliance between Microsoft and Nokia will bring computers even closer to cell phone use. Hopefully, another step to combining computers and mobility.

Nokia 7705 Twist Square Messaging Phone Going to Verizon Wireless Reviews

2009-11-20T00:26:00.000-08:00

Today Verizon Wireless announced the impending availability of the new Nokia 7705 Twist, a feature phone with a very unusual square form factor that swivels. This interesting looking phone opens up to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard for efficiently tackling messaging tasks.

We can safely say that we've never seen a phone like the Nokia 7705 Twist. Sure, we've reviewed square handsets before, and swivel models were in style a few years back; however, we've never had the two design aesthetics combined onto one device. We're not quite sure if it works--it's certainly unique, but it's awkward. The Twist offers a fair number of features, decent performance, and a nice keyboard for messaging and e-mail; however, it can't measure up as a multimedia phone.

Verizon Wireless and Nokia introduce the Nokia 7705 Twist, a unique square shape that swivels open to reveal a full QWERTY keypad. The phone’s shortcut buttons provide quick access to messaging, the 3.0 megapixel camera, Web browsing, V CAST Music with Rhapsody, voice commands, and speakerphone options. The Contact Light Ring, located in the lower right corner, can be customized to identify a message or a call from those listed in the contact directory. Customers may purchase the Nokia Twist online beginning Sept. 13 and in Verizon Wireless Stores on Sept. 21.

Nokia N 900 Reviews

2009-11-19T07:20:00.000-08:00

Nokia's new device has been shown off at Nokia World 2009, but there's definitely a touch of schizophrenia about it.

World’s largest handset maker Nokia has launched its first high end phone, named N900, running on Linux software. N900, new Linux based smart pone, is a high-performance mobile computer with a powerful processor, large internal storage, and sharp touch-screen display.

The Nokia N900 design is clean. It has a full qwerty sliding keyboard, which is practical for typing comfortably. However, this also contributes to the thickness of the N900. The keyboard keys remind me of the HTC Touch Pro as they are small and densely packed. The sliding mechanism is solid and that's good because I feel like this device has been designed to use in landscape mode. Typing speed is on par with the Nokia N97: not optimum, but still better than a virtual keyboard. On the back, there is a 5 megapixel digital camera with dual-LED flash and a lens cover. There is a VGA front camera too.

Is it a smartphone with a desktop-like OS? Or is it a portable PC with telephony options too? Either way, it's a pretty darn good mobile phone, and that's the way we like to see it.

Nokia to enter PC industry with first netbook

2009-11-19T07:08:00.000-08:00

The world's top cellphone maker Nokia said on Monday it would start to make laptops, entering a fiercely competitive but fast-growing market with a netbook running Microsoft's Windows operating system.

It said that the Best Buy will sell its first laptop for the U.S. and the price of that laptop is $300 with a two-year AT&T wireless plan when it goes on sale next week. A Finland Company named as Espoo said that the small laptops is known as netbooks and the cost of such netbooks would be $600 for customers who opt out of the AT&T contract. Nokia’s first laptop has Intel’s Atom processor, run Microsoft’s Windows software and 10-inch screen. The weight of this Nokia’s first laptop is 2.8 pounds.

Nokia had earlier this year said it was considering entering the laptop industry, crossing the border between two converging industries in the opposite direction to Apple, which entered the phone industry in 2007 with the iPhone.

Nokia has seen its profit margins drop over the last quarters as handset demand has slumped, and analysts have worried that entering the PC industry, where margins are traditionally razor-thin, could hurt Nokia's profits further.

Sony PlayStation 3 Slim Review

2009-11-18T06:28:00.000-08:00

Nearly three years after the introduction of the original budget-busting PlayStation 3, Sony has put both the system and its price tag on a diet. The appropriately named PlayStation 3 Slim shaves over an inch off the width of the previous system while keeping the same processing power intact. Sony also drops the price by $100 from the previous model, and bumps storage up from 80GB to 120GB. But the PlayStation’s distinctive piano black shell also disappears, along with the ability to run third-party operating systems.

Needless to say, Sony hopes that a trimmed down--and less expensive--PS3 Slim will similarly invigorate sales of the PlayStation 3, which has lagged behind the Nintendo Wii and the Microsoft Xbox 360 and has taken some of the luster off the PlayStation brand (even as earlier versions of the PS3 received high marks from this publication). To many industry observers, the Slim PS3 represents a moment of reckoning for the PS3--a chance at redemption if you will--and clearly some serious engineering has gone into the creation of Sony's latest black gaming box and media player.

Like its predecessor, the Slim also supports playback of MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and MPEG-4/h.264 video files from USB or disc-based media, as well as JPEG image viewing (the slideshow functionality is quite impressive). Like the Xbox 360, the PS3 can act as a digital media hub, with the ability to stream content from any DLNA-compatible network device, including PCs and network attached hard drives. And you also get a built-in Web browser (optional Bluetooth keyboards are available), which is serviceable, though not as good as any of the major browsers available for PCs.

Call it drab, call it dull, call it penny pinching and conservative, but releasing the PS3 Slim is easily the most sensible move Sony has made in donkeys' years. Where it cuts down on the feature set of the original PS3 it does so in ways that don't really matter, and where it improves on the initial console it does so in ways that offer real, tangible benefits. It's not an essential upgrade for existing PS3 owners, but then it was never meant to be. Instead, this is a machine targeted squarely at those trying to make their mind up between the Microsoft and Sony console. Sony knows that this is its one big shot at getting back into the current generation console wars. Taken on these terms, I'd call the PS3 Slim a success.

Apple iPod Classic (second generation, 120GB, silver) Reviews

2009-11-17T05:33:00.000-08:00

Available in striking Silver, iPod classic catches your eye with its sleek, all-metal enclosure composed of anodized aluminum and polished stainless steel.

The second-generation iPod Classic adds a new Genius playlist feature to its time-tested combination of music, video, podcast, audiobook, and photo playback.

The iPod Classic is Apple's iconic hard-drive-based MP3 player, with design roots that date back to 2001's original iPod model. If you can resist the fashion appeal and gee-whiz features of Apple's slimmer iPods, such as the iPod Nano and iPod Touch, the 120GB iPod Classic ($249) still delivers the most bang for the buck.

Nokia N97 Reviews

2009-11-17T05:17:00.000-08:00

The Nokia N97 is the tip of the spear in Nokia's smartphone lineup. It is the most powerful, smartest and fully featured phone of the company. It is also the first Nokia phone to make use of a large touch-display and that alone has raised the expectations from die hard Nokia fans that have refused to switch over to the iPhone. And Nokia has put quite a lot of work and thought in the N97. I had a first look when Nokia was still developing the N97 and I was looking forward to get my hands on the final product. In this review, I will tell you how I used it, and how well it did. Does the Nokia N97 live up to the hype?

Dell Dimension XPS 600 Desktop Computer Review

CPU and Memory

The Dell XPS 600 is clearly set on being on a mean, high-end gaming PC. The Intel Pentium 4 670 processor (running at 3.8 GHz) and installed 1 GB of RAM simply blows you away. Throw anything you want at it - the latest 3D games, video editing or number-crunching applications - it processes them with aplomb.

If you want to further drive up the power, the Dell Dimension XPS 600 can be configured with practically any high-end Pentium processor, including the dual-core Pentium Extreme Edition 840.

Case

The XPS 600 comes with a armor-like black and silver case. There is a wealth of PCI Express and PCI slots in the box, but they're filled, with graphics cards, TV tuners, and the Audigy 2 ZS sound board. Overall, the case is easy to work with, but made of plastic so it can feel a bit unsturdy. However, that is no big issue considering the processing might of the machine.

Graphics

The dual GeForce 7800 GTX graphics cards in the XPS 600 are the main draw of this system. 3D games these days call for an obscene amount of graphics horsepower - so Dell has responded with a power packed solution. The cards are mounted on a new nVidia-based motherboard chipset which is very apt since the nVidia chipset that can use two full x16 PCI Express lanes for the graphics, as opposed to previous configurations.

Data Storage

The Dell Dimension XPS 600 comes with - get this - 1 TB of hard drive space! I can just imagine storing tons and tons of games, music, videos and what have you in that drive - and not having to worry about disk space for a long time.

Other Components

Another key component in this machine is the lovely 24 inch LCD screen, which is great for playing games. The included primary dual-Layer DVD+/-RW drive and a secondary DVD-ROM drive will ensure you have enough optical storage capabilities.

The system also comes with the Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition operating system and two standard TV tuners for home entertainment.

At first glance the $5024 Dimension XPS 600 appears to be Dell's answer to the souped-up, superexpensive gaming PCs made by boutique manufacturers like Alienware and Voodoo. The XPS 600 is packed with high-powered hardware and provides very good performance, and its silver tower case with corrugated metallic plate and blue backlighting is reminiscent of Alienware's stylish, distinctive case designs. But the XPS 600 isn't really for the dedicated hard-core gamer so much as it is suited to the gamer or multimedia enthusiast who rarely opens a computer's case and wants both a fast gaming system and a Media Center PC.

Any good gaming system needs lots of processing power, and the XPS 600 doesn't disappoint. A 3.8-GHz Pentium 4 670 processor, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, and two 500GB hard drives striped for speed in a RAID 0 array delivered a WorldBench 5 score of 104, the second-fastest score we've seen from an Intel-equipped system. Notably, the CPU isn't a dual-core processor, which you might expect to find on a $5000 PC. Though this isn't a big disadvantage now, it could limit multitasking performance in the future as more dual-core-supported software titles reach the market...............................

Nokia 5800 review - Phone menu
LetsGoMobile adds: "The operating system of the Nokia 5800 is Symbian, which we often find on Nokia phones. For the Nokia 5800 it is Symbian S60 v5. At first glance you would not think of it as Symbian, since the well-known Symbian menu key is not there, and the icons are very similar to the standard Nokia menu structure. When using it, however, it is clearly the extensive and pleasant structure of Symbian. Most Symbian operated cell phones are slow; opening applications and simply surfing the menu generally takes a lot of time. However; the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic differentiates itself; the menu is smooth and quick as lightning."

Appearance

You cant go wrong with the Nokia 5800 having a black and shiny body with a mixture of curved and straight edges. It looks good and my friends agree. When the keyguard is on, the screen and button lights turn off, showing a shiny front surface. There are nice lines on the back that becomes visible depending on how light hits it.
