Janet Trakin
Simi Valley, California
janet_trakin@yahoo.com

On March 9, 2009 Janet responded to our ad looking for someone to edit interview scripts. I should have known there was going to be a problem when she didn’t use proper paragraph structure in our online application. Clearly an editor should showcase impeccable grammar, paragraph structure, etc.

She gave me a flat price for the job, but when I e-mailed her later on that day to see if she’d be around to talk, she just ignored me.

Since I didn’t hear from her, I rejected her bid on oDesk 3 days later. 12 days later she’s IMing me on Yahoo saying, “Can I help you?” I don’t think I responded back, but if I did, I would have told her, “no, you can’t help us, you just disappeared.” VERY unprofessional.

Then almost 7 months later she suddenly out of the blue rejects my very old request to add her to my Yahoo back when she applied to our company. Again very strange behavior.

Then later in the year I was SHOCKED to see her writing false accusations about me & what happened on a blog. She accused me of being abusive to her. She also falsified her name of course to hide her true identity because I find that these independent contractors who are nasty & mean spirited NEVER use their real name. They know they are lying, so they use fake names, but, I tracked down who the poster was & it was Janet. I wasn’t sure at first because nothing very negative transpired between her & I, but I have found that writers & editors are some of the most emotionally dysfunctional people online, so I guess it wasn’t really a surprise to see what she wrote.

I just don’t understand why people have to lie & make up stories & so far 98% of all the lies come from editors or writers.

Michelle (I always use my real name as I have nothing to hide & I stand by what I write because I tell the entire story & I don’t lie.)

Cristina Garcia
tinaorange@yahoo.com

Normally Christina wouldn’t have made it on this blog if not for the fact that she went out of her way to make me look bad online.

Here is what happened…

I approached her to see if she was available for one of our open positions. When I was searching profiles, I noticed that she filled out the same profile 10 times. I probably shouldn’t have replied to her at that time because clearly she doesn’t know how to handle filling out a profile properly (it should be filled out once, NOT 10 times), but she was contacted in the mix of things.

When she wrote back, we asked her to fill out our standard online application. She then told us she decided not to pursue this anymore. At the time I was very stressed & thought the reason she backed out was because I asked her why she filled out her profile 10 times. One thing I’ve noticed, is that some Filipinos are way too sensitive. Some can’t handle it when they are wrong, constructive criticism etc. & I’ve had some (certainly not all) blame me for their mistakes.

Since I had had a recent experience like this, I was rude to Cristina Garcia’s e-mail when she decided to back out. Instead of just letting it be, she ran & tattled on me (like a little child) & the site talked to me about it.

It was straightened out.

When Cristina wrote back to me calling me on my rudeness, I realized my mistake (my assumptions were incorrect) & apologized to her. That’s what I do. I make a mistake & apologize because that is the right thing to do when one knows they are in the wrong. I’m not perfect.

Instead of Cristina accepting my apology, she ran to a blog she found where other nasty independent contractors congregate to lie about Exotic Publishing & myself, & she just had to post how rude I was.

Of course she never mentioned that I apologized to her & nothing irks me more than someone who can’t accept an apology & continues to try & make the situation more negative than it was.

So in my opinion, Cristina acted very immaturely first tattling on me to the job board, then even after my apology, running to post her negative comment. In my opinion, if she isn’t treated 100% with kid gloves & she encounters any kind of negativity which we all know happens all the time, one may suffer huge consequences from this girl.

Cheryl Stull
Elmira, New York (originally from Florida)

Cheryl says she used to work at The Leader.

I happened to read a discussion Cheryl wrote on LinkedIn asking questions about wanting to work as a freelancer & collecting unemployment benefits, so since she claimed to be a writer/editor, I decided to contact her privately & tell her we had open writing editing positions.

Little did I know at the time how rude & mean spirited Cheryl would turn out to be & how she knows absolutely nothing about working online, how people speak online, how sites work, etc.

I said she looked more like a proof reader than a copy editor (based on her LinkedIn profile) & asked her clarify. I also said… “If you have no problem with our industry, I can shoot you any open positions we have.”

She wrote back saying, “Hi Michelle,
Please send further details. It sounds interesting.
Cherie”

I found it suspicious that she would use a totally different name than what was on her profile, so I asked her what her name is, Cheryl or Cherie.

Then I took time out of my busy schedule to provide her with our hiring ad URL & then tell her which positions from the list I felt she could apply for. Then towards the end of that task is when I realized she had never answered my question about whether she was a proof reader or copy editor. So because I was teed off that I probably just wasted my time when she had failed our first test, in my very down to earth straight to the point way of talking (this is who I am & I make no apologies for it) I said, “But I just realized that I asked you a question & you didn’t answer it, so if you aren’t well versed in quality online communication, there’s no need to respond at all, as we expect top notch communicators.”

For an insecure person they will get angry at that statement. For someone who knows themselves well they’d either apologize or admit their online communication skills are lacking.

It still amazes me that soooo many so called writers & editors can’t even reply to e-mails properly. It’s like they have no clue how to communicate via the written word. Many can’t even follow simple instructions.

Of course if you’ve been reading many of my posts on this blog, you will realize that many of them pertain to writers & editors. After years of dealing with their dysfunctional nasty behavior, I’ve just come to the conclusion that a lot of them (certainly not all) just need a lot of help emotionally. Why that is I have no idea, but I’ve even read comments from writers who admit they know they have deep emotional issues. Everyone has emotional issues, I’m talking about people who can’t control their’s.

Anyway, the next thing I know, Cheryl (or Cherie) becomes nasty towards me & based on what she wrote below, in my opinion is clearly not a very smart person.

“Michelle,
I didn’t answer your questions because your communication was unprofessional, and I don’t feel obligated to give information to anyone who contacts me unless I feel they are from a legitimate business. Your message, Michelle, was barely understandable and left me without a clue as to who you were and what your industry was. I am a professional seeking actual employment and don’t take kindly to you hucksters out there wasting my time.
Sincerely,
Cherie”
LOL huckster? A company approaches her to potentially GIVE her a job & therefore they are a huckster?

She refuses to answer a simple question about whether she’s a proof reader or a copy editor? My god, why do so many of these editors & writers fear human beings & become suspicious for no reason at all. That is THE most relevant question to ask an editor & if Cheryl doesn’t know this, then she ISN’T an editor.

As for our company, it’s CLEARLY there in LinkedIn. You just click on the link next to the window you are communicating in & it brings up the company’s profile. If she had no idea how to do that, why didn’t she just say she was new to LinkedIn & ask?

First she says she wants more information, then she blames me for her ineptness because she doesn’t understand what I wrote or how to work LinkedIn? Pretending to understand something & then blaming the other person because you don’t is very ignorant.

So I told Cheryl Stull I was shocked at how rude she is & that it’s fine, we only hire A+ workers anyway & I asked her not to contact me back. She had already wasted enough of my time.

She of course didn’t listen & wrote me this below, which is why she is now on this blog…

“Check you spelling and grammar sweetheart. Let me be clear: Do not waste anymore of my time with your childishness.”

Happy Job Hunting Cheryl

Michelle

Krismarie Suaner (Alexandra & Kris – she has many different names which should have been a red flag)
Davao City, Phillipines
lego_020@yahoo.com

Krismarie responded to our ad for our Book Compiler position on oDesk & there were problems from the start with her either not understanding simple English, or her writing in such a way that I didn’t understand her.

I started to get frustrated right off the bat. The hiring ad had specifically stated that excellent English skills are a must. This is also common sense since the position requires being able to read English text & move it around in a file.

She made mistakes when filling out our online application, then made mistakes in not giving us her Yahoo handle that was asked for, then misunderstanding that we don’t like Yahoo e-mail, then giving us her Gtalk handle when we specifically said we ONLY use Yahoo as our means of IMing.

Even after copying & pasting the text on the webpage to us, she was still clueless as to what was being asked of her.

Unfortunately I started to lose my temper internally (not to her). I’ll admit, I have no patience for people who are soooo below average in intelligence & actually have the nerve to try & find work online when they can’t even read & understand English properly.

I got even more upset when she had the nerve to write back saying she doesn’t understand why I’m making such a big deal out of this. I told her that of course she doesn’t understand, that’s why I’m the boss & she’s the worker.

I’ll admit my mistake, I should have just rejected her bid after it was clear that her English skills are below average, but like it happens on occasion, many Indians & Filipinos lie. Here’s what they do…

They have someone who is fluent in English respond to the ad or initial e-mail in order to rope in the company or customer. Then after that the REAL person starts communicating & clearly their English isn’t as good as it was initially.

Either that, or there are a team of them working together & they all take turns responding to the e-mails. They make it appear like only one person is applying for the position, so you think you are only talking to one person.

This of course confuses the manager, but they continue to communicate thinking the person’s skills will improve, because look at how well they responded initially. This happened to us many years ago & it wasn’t until months later that I realized something was fishy, & we were being played by the Filipino.

I had forgotten about this technique Filipinos use & while it didn’t take me months this time, it did take me 2 days & several messages back & forth to finally determine this girl had no clue what was going on.

Now I’m NOT saying Kris did what I mentioned about because I have no proof of that, but initially her English seemed fine to me both when she responded to the hiring ad & via what she wrote in the application.

Anyway, she started to be very rude to me & so I told her sternly this is NOT how you talk to a superior or boss. I asked her to stop messaging me on oDesk.

She refused to listen & I considered her actions to be harassment, so after I warned her & she didn’t listen again, I finally had to report her to odesk. I didn’t put her on this blog because I felt that odesk had handled it. I thought that was the end of it until I found a post by her on a blog lying & smearing my name & our company name.

I don’t have a problem with people saying how upset they are of our reviews of them (clearly one doesn’t end up on this blog if they are nice, smart, professional, etc.), so long as what they say is the truth.

What she wrote below is NOT the truth at all. Kris never even got to the interview stage & I NEVER talked to her about what the job entailed & we NEVER PLAGIARIZE anything. All of our business kits are written from scratch by me (Michelle). Any legal articles are written by our legal expert & edited by me again.

Krismarie Suaner is just trying to get back at us for not putting up with her disrespectful attitude.

“I also contacted her about freelance editing/writing. My first red flag was when she described the work to be done; it was quite simply plagiarism. She wanted me to comb the internet to articles for her book and then help her “repurpose” them. But, curiosity got the best of me, and I have had to educate clients before on what is and isn’t right along those lines. But within 24 hours she was angry and nasty because I for clarification on some information she wanted.”

Lastly, when I went to go look at her profile on oDesk, it didn’t exist & I’m pretty sure odesk doesn’t just remove your profile because of one incident, so she must have done something else to another company who either communicated with her or hired her.

Michelle

(559) 561-3822

We are on Lorrie Morgan-Ferrero Red Hot Copy list & one day she promoted this Jimmy Curley, a guy talking about how to get your auto responder e-mails selling your products.

Since we need help in that area, I signed up for the teleseminar, but missed it, so I e-mailed to get a copy of the audio.

I ended up somehow speaking to Jimmy Curley & because I don’t wish to learn how to do copywriting (I’m an entrepreneur, NOT a copywriter) & instead wanted to hire someone to do the work, I started up a dialogue with Jimmy.

I told him we wanted to hire someone to redo our auto responder e-mails.

He went on to write something about landing pages, broadcasts, etc. He also said:

“If you’re looking for someone to write for you, John Carlton has a
“stable” of writers, including myself and Lorrie Morgan-Ferrero. You
can get an idea of what specific projects would cost by contacting
Kevin Rogers at: kevin@marketingrebel.com”

I told him I knew all about landing pages, broadcasts already, & we wouldn’t have the money do to the landing page right now. I asked him if I had to go through Keven to get his (Jimmy’s) pricing.

I also stated:

“I’m looking for a respectful copywriter who actually produces results, isn’t just in it for the money, is honest, e-mails/calls when he/she says they will & has dealt with small businesses before, so understands the differences between a small & large business as they are completely different.”

I wanted to see how he’d communicate with me.

His way of communicating was to be passive aggresive & ignore me, so a couple of days later I wrote him back & said I never got a response from him.

I felt his response was RUDE, CONDESCENDING & just plain IGNORANT:

“Hey Michelle:

Thanks for writing. I usually write for clients who are in it for the
money. They hire me because they want copy that will sell so much
product that it makes my fee look like chump change.

Like the ad I recently wrote for a golf company. They were trying to
sell a club. The owners at first tried writing their own ad. Didn’t
work. They then hired a “cheap” writer for $5K — but that ad didn’t
sell a single club. Not one.

They came to me — and were at first shocked by my $20K fee. They paid
it, and were pleased when my ad pulled in $78,400 from a single email
on the first day.

The ad went on to generate over $300,000 for my client and they
stopped running it only because they ran out of clubs.

So the question is were they better off paying the $5K for a rookie or
the $20K for a writer with a proven track record?

I always encourage bargain hunters to shop around.

Hope that helps.

–Jimmy Curley”

First he tries to sell us, then he ignores us, then he insinuates that because we are a small company we are BARGAIN HUNTERS,then says we don’t care about money, as if companies who don’t have $20,000 to throw around are worth less than large companies who do. Then he tries to make it seem like his copy is worth every penny – ALL copywriters say that, whether it’s true or not is left up to the company to determine, NOT the copywriter.

I was quite upset by his disrespectful response, so I told him:

“Companies who don’t have the money AREN’T bargain hunters & I take offense
to you labeling small companies in such a manner.

This is the type of rude attitude I don’t tolerate.”

While he wrote back & said he meant no offense, it was clear he didn’t meant it. I felt he was an arrogant show off. Everyone should know that this level of arrogance is a huge sign of insecurity. People who are secure with themselves don’t need to show off & they don’t treat people like this. He made it seem like companies who don’t have $20,000 laying around like they are beneath him.

And now that I know that this is the type of person Lorrie & John Carlton hangs around & promotes, I will be unsubscribing from their lists too. I know who John Carlton is, I’ve also been on his list for years & may have even purchased one of his products in the past.

So, unless you have $20,000 laying around to spend on copywriting of any kind, beware of how a lot of these copywriters treat people. They don’t care about you, all they care about is MONEY & while every business wants to make money, OUR company only wants to deal with people who are kind, respectful & treats all businesses with respect even if they don’t have their fee.

Many of these copywriters are quite ignorant because they end up not only losing out on a potential company’s business down the road (who knows when our company will have their large fees), they are then blogged about so the entire world can see their TRUE personality.

Michelle

Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa

http://www.odesk.com/users/Experienced-Bookkeeper-Virtual-Assistant-and-Project-Manager_~~da642d3f3ec5ede7?sid=12001

http://www.translationdirectory.com/translators/english_afrikaans/lorien_roux.php

Lorien responded to our hiring ad for a bookkeeper. While she did everything very well, after reviewing her response I quickly realized that she didn’t live in the US & I was sure the hiring ad stated you must be in the US. So I thanked her for her response & said, “but you don’t live in the States do you?”

Instead of her just saying no she doesn’t & bringing it to my attention that the ad never stated that was a must, all the while being polite about it, things went downhill from there.

I asked her to provide me with the site she found the hiring ad on so I could of course check it & correct the problem.

She then tells me not to worry about it, disregard my application, she’d rather concentrate on her other clients anyway.

Ummm, of course I’m not worried & it was almost already clear she wasn’t going to be interviewed, so why did she need to be snippy & tell ME what to do as if she’s the boss & I’m her subordinate. On top of that, she makes it seem like her other clients are so much more important.

I couldn’t believe it, here we go again… This is how a lot of these independent contractors that talk to either the owner of companies or HR staff. I find that a lot of bookkeepers are very very nasty.

I mean come on people enough is enough already, this is NOT how you talk to your superiors. I don’t care if you haven’t been hired yet. RUDE & DISRESPECTFUL is just that & you are supposed to be on your best behavior during the entire interview process. Unless of course you can’t be a nice person & then you end up on here. So I said…

“I have already ignored your application, no need to be rude.

Please don’t respond back, I don’t tolerate disrespect.”

Did Lorien listen?

No, of course not, she had to have the last word by ignoring my request for her to stop e-mailing me & that’s when Lorien became even more rude & condescending telling me how to hire freelancers because clearly she knows soooo much about being an HR manager or an owner of a business. She also somehow knows exactly what I know & don’t know about hiring because she’s know me for sooo many years. LOL

I’m all for learning from experts when I don’t know something, but these arrogant workers online think they have the right to talk to management like this when they don’t even know what they are talking about. I NEVER talked to any of my bosses like that even when they were very rude & nasty to me. I also NEVER treated the person interviewing me like that way back when when I worked for other companies. What is this world coming to in the workforce?

Here’s what she said next…

“Michelle, please don’t resort to name calling, that is unprofessional behaviour. I am not rude, it just seemed like you want to pass blame.Think about it, I simply responded to what I thought was a legitemate opening. No bad intentions at all.

If you knew anything about freelancing, you would have mentioned all your requirements in your job posting so that applicants doesn’t have to waste time. You mentioned at the beginning that you haven’t received any quality responses yet. Ever thought why? I have worked with hundreds of buyers and are no stranger to freelance.

Tip: If you want top quality providers from around the world, try oDesk. Leave the small directories, you will get applicants within minutes.

No disrespect to you, I am sure you will find a good provider.

Best of luck with the future.

Lorien”

Now she really had me boiling.

I wrote her back & told her that I NEVER blamed her for anything & telling someone they are rude is NOT calling them a name, but as I later found out, Lorien didn’t quit understand a fair bit about what I wrote in English.

When looking back at the whole interaction, I realized that once again this is what happens when these emotionally unstable workers online show how insecure they are. They read into things that just aren’t true. I told her that had she treated me with respect, I would have apologized to her for wasting her time because that’s the type of person I am, I admit when I or someone in my company make mistakes. I have integrity.

It also became clear to me that this Lorien isn’t able to handle mistakes from anyone. Anyone else would have just said their thank yous or better yet, tried to convince me to hire them even though they weren’t in the States.

I felt at that point that I needed to let her know that I was going to put her on my blog. Lorien there are consequences for every action you take, & when you talk down to people for no reason at all, ESPECIALLY people who are in a position of authority to you, well… you get into hot water.

That’s when she starts freaking out & starts calling me a fraud. I guess in Lorien’s mind, one is a fraud when someone calls her on her behavior.

To the rest of you, no I’m NOT a fraud, but her co-workers (other independent contractors with the same behavior traits like Lorien) went online & lied about me & my company because they didn’t like me posting my experiences about them. This is a review site about freelancers. It’s no different than being reviewed on Elance, Guru, Odesk, etc., but I guess Lorien thought that because she didn’t find my company through those 3 venues, she could act the way she did with no consequences.

I NEVER lie, I only ever tell my experiences & since I seem to attract a fair percentage of nasty mean spirited independent contractors, there are a lot of stories to tell. Thank god they all aren’t like that, I’d never have the time to review them all.

I feel this is why they can never get a job at a brick & mortar company, because they know that no manager would EVER allow this kind of disrespectful behavior.

I’ve again asked Lorien to stop e-mailing me, but she won’t. She continues to threaten that she will blast my company, she called me names, continued to treat me with disrespect, make up stories, etc. This is why there are lies about Exotic Publishing online, because these adults who act like children try to retaliate by lying. They are C level workers who NEVER take responsibility for their behavior or actions. It’s always someone else’s fault.

“Also, please elaborate on the fact that you consider yourself to be my superior? Have you ever hired me?

You are unprofessional, rude, blame providers for your false job postings, and when confronted, threaten to discredit them. You cannot handle strong providers, of which there are many out there and always in demand.

I sincerely tried to help you, and you could not leave it.This reflects your personality and shows how you treat your employees. Providers should be warned about your business practices.

LAST REQUEST: Leave this now and we go our separate ways. Neither of us have the time or energy to fight on this.”

———————-

Lorien seems to think that one isn’t of manager status UNTIL the company has hired her. I’m just shaking my head. A manager is a manager always, whether you are hired or NOT! This kind of thinking is typical of C level workers. In their minds it’s all about money. If they aren’t being paid for something, there is no respect. I’m different in how I think. Work isn’t about money, it’s about the work. The enjoyment of the work, the excitement of helping build a company. The fun of working with great people. The money is just how one is paid. That’s A+ worker mentality.

Now she’s calling the position a “false” posting because of one mistake that was made? That doesn’t even make logical sense.

Blame? Never blamed her ever, not once I knew there was a problem. Seems Lorien can’t let go of that one mistake.

Threaten? No threat here, I’m doing what I said I’d do. I NEVER make threats.

Then she says I don’t respect strong workers. NO, I don’t respect disrespectful nasty people. I welcome people who are nice friendly & respect the people they wish to work for.

She tried to help me? LOL I don’t think Lorien knows what help is. She thinks she knows it all & tried to tell me how to run my business in an area she knows nothing about. AND, you can’t advise a company about anything unless you are first an expert in that are, & you know all there is to know about that company first. That’s called getting the ground work.

I find that people who are insecure like to think they know it all, but they never bother to find out what’s going on with the company, they just shoot their mouths off without getting the facts first. They are trying to make it appear they know a lot when they don’t.

I later realized after investigating Lorien, that she probably isn’t a real bookkeeper. In my eyes a real bookkeeper ONLY does bookkeeping or other financial type of work. Looks like on odesk Lorien is an editor, a VA & does other work that has nothing to do with bookkeeping.

I’ve never known a real bookkeeper to be very skilled in being a VA & editing. There’s always the exception to the rule, but I’ve come across this type of worker before. The one who’s so desperate for money, they will tell every company out there that they know how to do this or that skill when they don’t.

As for providers being notified of how I work… all applicants are given our pre-screening booklet. Amongst other things, they are told that if they treat me or anyone else at this company the way people like Lorien does, they will go on my blog. Then it’s up to them if they wish to continue with the interview.

I’m not discrediting anyone, I’m relaying my story of what happened. If Lorien never acts this way again, this blog has done it’s job. I am trying to help companies out there so they can be aware of certain types of people. Maybe Lorien won’t treat certain other people this way. I hope for their sake she doesn’t. I’m also trying to get the message across to these workers that they CAN’T treat companies this way just because they aren’t sitting down face-to-face with them. Hiding behind a monitor DOESN’T give you the right to be rude & nasty to your superiors.

What’s really interesting is that these freelancers all have their sites where they BASH companies & probably even lie about them, but when a company openly expresses their negative experience with a freelancer & they aren’t lying, all of a sudden it’s NOT okay. That’s called hypocrisy.

Freelancers have to learn that they can’t go around acting like this with no consequences, & that companies have the right to relay their opinions just like freelancers do.

And please people make no mistake, having a bad day isn’t the same as someone being nasty. It’s in their personality. I can tell the difference just by how they handle the situation when things go south.

Anyway, Lorien continued to harass me & threaten me for a few more e-mails & I ignored her.

I’ll see if tomorrow I get more threats from her.

Michelle

Rosalind responded to our hiring ad for an excellent bookkeeper. She did everything well, but we had some issues with how she laid out her paragraph to one of the more detailed questions we asked in our hiring ad, so we e-mailed her back & told her this.

We never heard back from her, so days later we e-mailed her again thinking maybe she never received that e-mail from us.

Turns out she did, but she just ignored it.

Her reasoning which was illogical to us was… “Yes, I received your email. I wasn’t sure what the next steps were, so I was waiting for additional information from you.”

A few things we have to say about this…

You don’t ignore e-mails. Plain & simple. It’s a conversation that is meant to go back & forth between the parties. Unless it’s 100% clear that the conversation has ended after the thanks yous & well wishes, the conversation is NEVER over.

If you are a proactive person who doesn’t have to be micromanaged, management should NEVER have to tell you to respond back to an e-mail. This is how communication plays out online for online virtual positions.

I was kind of shocked at her response that she had been waiting for us, so I just matter of factly stated that this has never happened to us before. I also told her that we need someone with above average communication skills, not people who just ignore e-mails.

It’s true, this definitely was a first. I’ve never had anyone just ignore an e-mail & constructive criticism. Either the person gets upset or if they are mature, they thank us for our opinion & state they will try to do better. That in fact was what we were waiting for, to see what kind of a person Rosalind was & how she would handle herself.

Well we got our answer & then some.

We got excuses & Rosalind blaming us for her mistake…

“If you asked me to respond then that’s what I would have done. All you provided was feedback to a submission.

I’ve never worked with anyone who does not follow up with the next steps.

Best of luck to you as well.”

That’s when I wrote back saying that we need someone with common sense who doesn’t have to be micromanaged. Harsh words, but it’s all true. We don’t want people who have to be told to respond back to e-mails. It’s common sense that feedback should be acknowledged & that the conversation should continue, as that’s what it is, a conversation.

If Rosalind was sitting across from my desk, would she just sit there & ignore my comments? She wasn’t even called into the boss’s office for anything major, she was just being told how we like certain things & how she could improve.

Well maybe she would just sit there & say nothing, but then we’d know she wasn’t a person who could work for our company.

Our point is, no, MOST people wouldn’t just sit there & say nothing waiting for the boss to tell them what to do next, most people have to put aside any embarrassment & say SOMETHING.

I also asked Rosalind to not respond back to us, as it was clear this was going nowhere. It was clear to me that Rosalind wasn’t as bright as we needed, or she was just going to continue blaming us for her mistakes. Either way those are NOT the traits we are looking for in a team member.

Unfortunately Rosalind didn’t do as we asked & she didn’t stop e-mailing us, so now she’s been put on this blog to tell other potential employers or businesses what we experienced.

She wrote:

“Apparently common sense is not that common for you.

Please stop emailing me. Provide better directions it’s not about being micro managed.”

I didn’t bother to write her back. We had screened Rosalind in just a matter of 4 e-mails & that’s what good recruiting is, weeding out the C level workers.

Kolkata, India

Viju contacted us on Lime Exchange re: our book compiler’s position.

All seemed fine with her so we were willing to wait the 11 days before she could interview.

Then the day before we were supposed to conduct the interview she said she didn’t know our time zone even though it was mentioned twice, once on our application, & once in our pre-screening booklet.

She also gave me her phone number even though we stated that most of the time we interview via instant message & only for some positions the phone. Common sense states that if someone is overseas, they probably won’t be called by the company.

Since she had already stated she had a good memory, I reiterated that we can only hire people with good memories & our time zone was stated twice.

She didn’t respond to my e-mail, so I wrote her back again. Her reason for not responding was…

“Hi Michelle,

Your last email to me said your time zone was EST. Did you send me anything else?

Viju”

Ok, now I was starting to get the impression that Viju wasn’t as sharp as I thought she was, so I wrote her back again stating that the e-mail didn’t just state our time zone, it talked about memory & that’s another thing we need from everyone, very good communication skills, & people who don’t ignore e-mails. I said we can’t work with someone who ignores something they don’t like. I said if you didn’t ignore the e-mail then please explain.

She didn’t respond back & I waited over 4 hours for her to come on Yahoo for her interview.

I wrote her again stating that we only hire people who are responsible & reliable. She ignored me again.

The following day she came on Yahoo & I IMed her. She ignored me again.

So because of this behavior & keeping me waiting for the interview after we waited 11 days for her, I feel other companies need to know how Viju handles herself.

Bookkeeper

Harry attacked our company via our hiring ad on http://community.intuit.com/for no reason at all. All because we haven’t found a proper bookkeeper yet. Then he tried to make up stories to scare other bookkeepers away. I reported him for abusive behavior.

“Surely you have had enough time to select the best candidate for the job.

Beware all:: If bonafide, why not??

The working conditions or the pay being offered will be a big factor..”

This is just another example of one more nasty bookkeeper that bashes companies for no reason at all.

Ryan & his friend responded to a flyer I had up for shoveling snow for me. While I had already filled that position, I asked his friend if he knew anyone who knew a lot about electronics – TVs, surround sound systems, recording devices, etc. & he said yes, my friend Ryan.

I asked Ryan about his experience & he said he used to work or still works at Tepperman’s in Windsor, Ontario. I asked how much he would charge me to hook up a surround sound system & he said he would do it for free because it would only take a few minutes to do. I asked if he knew where to buy one & he said he didn’t know, but he knows of a great warehouse place in Detroit & he’s going at the end of the month. I asked if I could come along & he would help me pick one out & he said sure.

Around the 23rd of February I called him & he said he was going on the 26th & he would call me the night before to confirm. Well I didn’t hear from him so I called him & left a message. No return call so I called him again, still no answer.

By the next day I knew that Ryan was a mean spirited person who had strung me along, wasted my time preparing for the trip, & was now ignoring me.

Thanks Ryan, much appreciated.
