Great for mini home theater I've been an HDTV owner for six years and during that time, I've assisted about two dozen friends in their HDTV home theater setups. I've just upgraded to the Samsung LN52B750 and I couldn't be happier. For reference, I'm upgrading from a Samsung DLP and I own another Samsung LCD HDTV. There's a lot that's misunderstood about this TV, so rather than the usual Pros and Cons, I'd like to share how I'm getting viewing value from this set. First, if you're reading this, you're either already an LCD owner or have read about them - and have read about this new breed and if you're like I was, you're wondering what's what. Color swirls - you never read about this, but if you've watched TV on an LCD set in the past, especially with standard def (SD) stations, you've seen it. The backgrounds look like compressed colors from jpg photo files. My earlier LCD HDTV (8ms response time) had it - this one simply does not. (I did have trouble watching compression artifacts in a movie from 1930 on TCM on this TV - but that movie was so hosed, I can't blame the TV only.) Contrast - you've read by now that all LCD set makers lie about this. If you're confused and remember the old audio days, that works like this: You'd have a 35 watt RMS/channel amp (into 8 ohms). Some would lie and call it a 70 watt amp. Then lie some more and call it a 140 watt amp (how about 4 ohm speakers?). Then lie some more and refer to peak instead of RMS - and suddenly a 35 watt amp is legally lied about as a 200 watt amp. Now - I don't know the ins and outs of legal contrast lying, but I believe what I've read - it exists in this industry. This set is rated at a contrast of 150,000:1 - with every stretch of legal lying possible - the contrast on this set is amazing. I still cannot believe that it's an LCD. It's simply that good in terms of contrast. One plasma-owning friend insisted for a half hour that I was wrong, and had gotten a top line plasma. Blur/response/lag - LCDs are noted for this weakness. Not this TV. Read on. Quality of SD programs - some controversy exists. Not a problem on this TV. Read on. 240 Hz AMP - this is the most misunderstood feature I've read about on this TV. Nothing I've read in any review prepared me for what to expect. I was buying the TV partially for this feature, noting that depending upon whom you believe, you turn this feature on, off, on for movies but not sports, on for sports but not movies. It's none of those on/off things. It's adjustable. Here are my simple recommendations based on my setup: 1. DirecTV. I use a Dayton HDMI cable, also bought on Amazon (amazingly good cable - buy it), from my DirecTV HR20. I have the HR20 set up to display all resolutions in Native mode. The LN52B750 switches resolution so quickly that this is not a problem. Unlike earlier sets I've owned, the HDMI input on this TV accepts 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p - the HR20 outputs all of those on HDMI. In DirecTV circles, it's well-known to set your TV and your HR20 to the TV's native resolution and turn Native output off on the HR20. This is because the HR20 is purportedly better at 3:2 pulldown processing than the top of the line chipsets/firmware used only a few years ago, in that the pulldown is done between the steps of converting the satellite signal to TV frames - and my own experience agreed with that. However, I offer this simple advice - set your HR20 output to Native, all resolutions, and set the B750's 240Hz processing to: Blur=5, Judder=3 - and you'll be exceptionally happy with the results from all program input. My Boston Legal reruns have never looked so good and they appear on some of the poorest-signal (highly compressed) stations in my lineup. So, with this setting, SD as well as satellite 720p and 1080i programs look great - not fake at all. (And all you have to do to see the controversy on this feature is to "turn it on" without customizing its adjustment - and wait for your eyes and stomach to turn.) I played baseball as a kid - loved it. Still remember what a ball looks like going through the air. When you're at the right angle, you see a stobe of blur and clear, red stitches. With the Blur=5,Judder=3 adjustment, I have finally seen just that watching a dropping curve ball (720p source). Any higher or lower, the ball looks wrong - oh, yes, very exciting - but wrong. So I strongly recommend this set for its 240 Hz processing - providing you are willing to change those two parameters slowly and study a lot of source material to dial in what's right. I contend that if you're a DirecTV HR20 owner, I've just given you the key to really great SD and HD viewing. And don't fear about those great blurs being missed from movies that wanted it there - Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire looked really great in that regard. BTW - resolution switching on this set is FAST - you'll experience little or NO extra delay when switching resolutions. (Not true on my older HDTVs.) 2. HTPC (Home Theater PC) I use a Mac mini. I know, people hate them, you pay too much for Macs, yadda, yadda, yadda. The Mac mini is THE correct form-factor for a HTPC. You can find duplicates of this form-factor - and directly comparable features - in the Windows world for **exactly** the same price as a Mac mini - so, 'nuff said on price. But - so far as a I know, only the built-in Apple DVD Player plays movies at 24 frames/second. Last I checked (and this may have changed by now), all other software (Win) does playback at TV rates: 60 frames/sec, with progressive scanning, etc. Now - I'm not explaining all of this to brag about Macs - this is all about Blu-Ray vs. DVDs. The de-judder tech being targeted by the 240 Hz processing is all about reconciling Blu-Ray 24 fps (read: real theater) vs. 30/60 fps (read: TV signals). I don't own a Blu-Ray player - my gut, after all of these years, is still telling me to wait for the right features and prices. But, I do use a Mac mini for my HTPC and if you do - or are considering one - here is my recommendation (based on Leopard 10.5.7): set the DVD Player to Best Quality Deinterlacing, set the Mac Display preferences to 1920x1080 at 24 Hz (it's progressive by default), and feed that into your LN52B750 with the 240 Hz options set to Blur=5 or 6, Judder=6 or 7 - and your jaw will drop. If you have a copy of Moulin Rouge - use it as your reference for the settings. I particularly recommend noting that you'll actually see the dust kitties on the floor in the Tango Roxanne chapter (among other things) and also suggest that you'll really love the depth and details of the stars, lace and glitter in Your Song. With those settings you'll not only get a great HTPC, but you'll get possibly the best standard DVD player you've ever owned. Before the LN52B750, it was very good - now it's really incredible. Ghost Dog and Moulin Rouge on DVD are now completely three dimensional (not exaggerated foreground fakey - actually 3-D looking) - I didn't even know that this sort of picture was possible from a DVD. I think my setup shows how well this TV works with a 1080p/24 fps source - I can only imagine that Blu-ray looks even better. (edited 5-26-09) 3. Sound People complain about the sound quality of the LN52B750. I don't know. I haven't used a TV for sound in 8 years. I don't wish to sound snobbish, but really - you're spending a boatload on your TV and input sources, why listen to TV speakers? I don't go for surround sound. I'm an audio purest that prefers the highest fidelity stereo. To each his own, but if you're like me, here's the secret on that: route the optical audio out from the LN52B750 into the Mac mini, not from the DirecTV's optical port. This routing is surprisingly better. Use Rogue Amoeba's free LineIn software, set all buffers to default values except for output - use a buffer size of 2048 - convert the optical to copper stereo and pipe that into your stereo system. This is the best TV-to-stereo sound I've gotten in 8 years. I'm using large electrostatic panels, driven by a 400 watt (peak)/channel amp and a 2 kW servo-controlled subwoofer. You hear sound from all over the room and the depth and spacial qualities are great. I recommend more money into a better stereo and less room wiring over surround sound, but that's just me. To each, his own. 4. Miscellaneous Adjustments Next, some words on clouding, screen adjustment and glare. Glare - I don't have any. Yeah - I can see some reflection in the screen at various times of the day. The picture quality is so deep - as is the contrast - that I don't even notice glare, if it is there. And the screen is neither glossy nor matte. It feels glossy, but is low-glare like matte, but sharp and clear like glossy. They're telling the truth on that improvement. Clouding - let the set burn in for a few days before looking. This is great advice for any large LCD, by the way. Clouding - I don't have any. Adjustments: Go. Very. Slow. I'd recommend not touching a thing for a full 24 hours of viewing. So far, I've turned down the backlight and the contrast and turned up the brightness. I'm not going to suggest numbers here, though - there are too many factors, such as your room, that will dictate what's right. I will say that out of the box, the contrast is too high, as is the backlight (but not the brightness) - so, as I said: Adjust. Each. Parameter. Slowly. You'll be pleased. 5-26-09: Three things - absolutely *turn off* Dynamic Contrast and Edge Enhancement!! Also, Digital Noise Reduction (NR) defaults to auto - certainly on DVDs, this causes an electric sort of look to things like paper; better at Medium or High. Color - I read a review that favored Auto over Native - I agree. Film mode - It defaults to Auto2 (optimized for scrolling text). Use Auto1 (film optimized) - text looks just fine. 5. Internet This is not a worthless feature. I thought it would be - but it isn't. If you're using a Mac mini and getting the net wirelessly, go to System Prefs->Network->Ethernet, and set DHCP with manual IP - set IP to 192.168.2.1 - then go to Sharing and share your Airport connection through the Ethernet. Run an Ethernet cable 100/1000BaseT type (looks like a big phone connector) from the Mac to the TV. Set the TV internet as follows: IP=192.168.2.2, mask=255.255.255.0, and BOTH Gateway and DNS Servers to 192.168.2.1 - and you're all set. Note - this doesn't support your DLNA features into the TV - and if you have a HTPC, especially a Mac, you don't want that anyway. Your music files will all have to transcode to support the feature - stick with your native music format, and simply switch to Mac Front Row for your music listening. You'll get higher quality and you've already made those music import decisions - and I suspect the same is true if you're a Vista/Home Media user and that's your HTPC. (Update - with [...] software, this config does support DLNA features from Mac to TV - if you need that sort of thing.) BUT - and this is a big BUT - if it's easy, hook up your Mac or other HTPC to share its internet connection. You already get your OS upgrades via the net, regardless of whether you prefer OS X or Windows. Well, guess what? This TV is at its heart, a whole lot of computing technology. Out of the box, my LN52B750 firmware was marked from 3-30-2009 - and last week (in May 2009), Samsung already had a firmware upgrade for this set. What did Samsung upgrade? I don't know and I don't care. I let my Windows XP and Mac OS X computers upgrade themselves all the time. These guys want to fix things for free, I don't argue - I take the fix. Get it connected to the internet and you'll never have to sweat getting an upgrade or remember how to transfer it to your TV via a USB stick. For upwards of US$2k, I like not sweating things. BTW, please note that at this point, the TV doesn't seem to support automatic updates - so you still have to go over to that menu option. Not bad. (10-13-2009 update: firmware updates are now automatic if hooked to the net.) Having gotten that far, I tried out the Yahoo widgets. This is an underrated feature by far. I'm now set up to get the quick 5-day forecasts here, back where Mom is, and out where my company's other locations are. It puts the TV show being watched into its own shadowbox while viewing the widget. This is insanely faster and easier than using my Mac Dashboard or the DirecTV widget for the same thing - and I never lost track of my show and I never picked up a mouse. Oh - I also used Yahoo News and Video to get the latest web video of the Hubble repairs during a long commercial break. Sure, it was low-res. But I did it with my remote, and not a mouse, and didn't lose track of time on the web looking at Hubble stuff during a commercial break. So - I strongly recommend the internet connection option for this TV, too. 6. Heat LCD sets get hot, the longer they're on. I burned out my first LCD HDTV from days-long ontime. I left this TV on for 50 hours straight. It is summer (here in the desert), and I do have my swamp cooler on - but this TV screen is still barely warm to the touch. 7. Trusting commercial reviewers Anyone who publishes that they've tested the X-inch model of this set, but this one is the same - don't read them, don't believe them. Quality control for manufacturing LCD sets increases almost exponentially as you go up in size. Only trust reviews on the actual set you're looking at - not the next one over, not last year's model. 8. LCD response time This set is rated at 2 ms. I've heard that's a lie in a review of 120 Hz sets - although the reviewer wouldn't mention manufacturers. That reviewer said that they were simply taking 8 ms panels, and rating them at 4 ms when doing 120 Hz processing - and so, while my TV was in transit, I rightly wondered if the 2 ms is simply the same math applied to an 8 ms screen at 240 Hz (4 time as fast as 60 Hz, four times as fast as 8 ms). I have no earthly idea. All that I can say for a certain fact is that this thing is razor sharp and lacks the motion artifacts (and swirls) I've seen on my other 8 ms LCD HDTVs. I hope this helps, some, with that confusion. 9. Actual Size I don't why it does this but it does: it sees my Mac via the DVI-HDMI connection and gives me a Fit Screen size adjustment. No more lost pixels, no more need for SwitchResX or DisplayConfigX. No such option from the DirecTV HDMI input. I don't know why. But I do know this: for years, HDTV makers were hiding a bit of the edges from their input sources - causing no end of grief for HTPC owners. This set does away with all of those woes. (**** UPDATE, May 23 - The Screen Fit option works with any HD source - DirecTV or HTPC. Switch to 480i input, and the screen fit option goes away. Also - when you get the typical HistoryHD show where they just stretch the letterbox picture horizontally, giving everyone that Pillsbury Doughboy face, you can fix that by quickly switching the TV to 4:3 mode. You end up with an HD in letterbox - not as good as full-screen HD, but way better than watching the Pillsbury Doughboy.) 10. Correct Adjustment. They tell us that the only way to do this is with a TV tech, and to pay for it professionally. Believe them. This TV has no less than 9 adjustments for red, green and blue - add in brightness, gamma, etc and you have over a dozen adjustments there. Think: 12-sided Rubic's cube - now you've got the idea. So, I'm just adjusting the brightness/backlight/contrast myself. Independent reviewers all claim that the Samsung brand rocks right out of the box for color correctness. That wasn't true of my older Samsungs - it most certainly is for this one. The color just looks great. 13. The Remote I had things down to just my Mac remote and my DirecTV remote. Now I've got that third remote happening again, to use some of this TV's cooler features. Just like most people use surround sound while I use stereo, it seems most people get integrated remotes instead of using several. OK - I'm a Luddite or something. We use multiple remotes. (This one for music, sound, photos and DVD control, this one for DirecTV and now this one for switching source inputs and checking out my Yahoo widgets.) My wife and I just find this easier. So, if you're like us in that regard: This is a great remote. It feels comfy in the hands like you wouldn't believe, it has backlighting, the buttons are big enough to read. What more can I say than that? 14. Viewing Distance I watch mine at 12.5 feet from the screen. This is well within reason for this size TV. If you watch at a showroom, be prepared to pace off what your viewing distance will be. I often go through stores and see people judging HDTVs by being 8 feet in front of one, 12 feet in front of another. Don't ever do that. I cannot overstate the importance of judging TVs from the distance consistent with your own use. 15. Pilot Delivery I got my LN52B750 via Amazon's supplied Pilot Delivery. These guys were great. Others have had issues, many haven't. Pilot seems to employ local guys for their white glove delivery. My local guys were great - 'nuff said. 16. 6/13/2009 edit - If you register your TV on the Samsung website, they give you an additional 3 months on your warranty. Well - that's it. Absolutely stunning,jaw dropping picture. I can't say enough about it. Excellent blacks,infinitely tweakable to your liking. When I first turned it on I had the "The Office" come on and I swear my mouth stayed open for a few minutes as it looked like Michael was in the same room as me! Lots of inputs and features to this set,internet connectivity,DLNA,home networking,wonderful subdued TOC which is grey instead of the red on last years 750. Very high gloss bezel,crystal neck stand which pivots. Screen is glossy,reflections are not an issue for me as I tend to watch in a darker room,but even with the drapes open, I don't see myself! AMP seems to work better in this set,as I also have an 4071 Samsung which has a slight problem with AMP,which has been well documented over at the AVSForums. Just like anything else it is not perfect,hence the 4 stars instead of 5. Sound is bad. I mean,you'll want to hook this up to a nice stereo system,or at the very least,a couple of powered computer speakers or some such set. This tv attracts dust like nobodies business.Either that or my house is really dirty. Front panel controls (which would be rarely used anyway) are hard to tell where they are (lower right). I will not go into much technicalities as one of the reviewers here "EarlyMon" did a fantastic job and is more techsavvy.I will only say that I am more than happy with my purchase. However, I shall add that the future of HDTV will be either LED or OLED.The technology on LED/OLED TV has not been perfected and will not be until 3 to 5 years down the road.So, why did I go for a SAMSUNG B750 CCRT LCD TV rather than for a LED TV? Very simple.It is the best LCD in the market as of today Sept14th,2009 and might be for a long time to come.A point supported by both professional reviewers and users. The Samsung B750 beats the LED Sony XBR8 (too pricey) and Samsung B8000 (uneven pixation). It compares very well with black scenes in both LED TVs, the white may not be as white as the LED TVs, but IT does not give the unnatural blue hue the LED TVs add to white color, perhaps that is why they seem to produce a whiter white.Just like the LED tv, the Samsung LN52B750 does not produce harsh pictures nor are the pictures scrabby. The B750 has a practical wider viewing angle than both LED TVs mentioned above. It also has a better uniformity of colours.Do not get me wrong the LED TVs give very impressive pictures but since they are still in what I shall call beta stages, the prices on them are rather high for their current performances compared to what they are capable of doing.Just Like when Plasmas came out some years back, they were pricey, average cost was $4000.00 for the low end models.Inspite of their high prices then, yesterday's Plasmas in terms of performance are not as good as today's Plasmas which cost far less. They went through a period of fine tuning during which time their prices came down.Could you imagine buying a 46in Plasma for $900:00 in 2004.Yet today you could get one for that amount with little issue of burn in and better performance. A similar scenario will be played out with the LED TVs of today. So while waiting for LED technology to be perfected, it makes reasonable sense to buy an excellent TV at a "reasonable cost" to enjoy for the next 5 or so many years before the LED TVs get perfected or near "perfection". To be honest, as much as Samsung tried to eliminate glare, this TV does have a minimum of glare compared to older Samsung LCDs but it is very minimal.If you have not noticed the glare on your laptop, desktop or your old CRT tv, then you will not be bothered by glare on this TV with the improved anti-glare technology. If you are an enthusiast of Nature,fast action movies or sports, this is the TV for you. This TV shows leaves in a tree distinctively not just a bunch or cluster of green like most TVs do.You see clearly the individual droplets of water, as a wave breaks not just a splash of whitishblue.With fast movies or sports, no blurr or motion artifacts are seen.Colors are naturally vivid.No leaking of colors. Do you need calibration? Yes, you do. Out of the box, the picture it gives is very impressive.Bear in mind that the manufacturers do not know anything about your living room light condition but they have a fairly good knowledge of what the light condition of a retailer's electronic dept is like.An since, the manufacturers do not know which of their TVs will be displayed by a particular retailer, they adjust the settings on all of their TVs coming out of the production line to meet the light conditions of a retailer which most time is a very bright light condition.They want their TV to look brighter,sharper and more crisp than their competitors'. This might mean less than an optimal picture quality for your room and more energy cost for you. Calibration has also been touted to prolong the life of the pixels.So if you can afford the 2 grand on this TV why can't you pick up a calibrating disc for $30.00 or less, to get an optimal performance, lower energy cost and prolong the life span of your TV? If you decide to calibrate your TV,it is adviced to let your new TV break in, like a new car before making the adjustment.Some suggest as few as 24 hrs of regular TV watching others have suggested 1 month.I calibrated mine after 45 hrs of regular TV watching.The difference in picture quality after calibration is like NIGHT and DAY. There are quite some good calibrating discs out there but the best for video is "High Deifinition Benchamrk by Spears & Munsil". This is very simple to use, the instructions are very elementary.I recommend the Blu-ray edition, if you have a Blu-ray player. For audiophiles, "AIX RECORDS" audio calibration disc is a winner. It has HD music sampler.For those with surround system, it will test the output and locate the positions of each of your speakers one by one for you.Both discs can be purchased online and for those who purchase the OPPO-BD 83 Blu-ray player,it is an added bonus. However, for those who do not want to buy a calibration disc or pay for a professionl calibration service, here is an ABC of do it yourself calibration. The primary features involved in calibration are, brightness,contrast,sharpness,color and hue. Brightness: This controls the depth of the blackness.Slot in a DVD movie into your DVD player and look for a night scene with someone wearing a black suit.Adjust the brightness control until you can make out clearly the edges of the suit lapel and the breast pocket of the black suit. Contrast: Controls the white. Look for a scene of someone wearing a white shirt.Adjust the contrast control until you can make out clearly the white buttons on the white shirt. Sharpness: Slot in a sports DVD e.g football,athletes meet, lawn tennis match etc.Look for a scene with line markings.Play with the adjust control from minimum to maximum and watch the line markings as you do so, the lines will have doubles or ghost images.Adjust the control slowly until the double or triple lines become one line or the ghost images of the line dissappears, leaving you with a single line. Color: Hopefully, you are not color blind.If you are,ask a friend to help you with this adjustment.This adjustment depends on what you appreciate of skin tone.Focus on the color of the skin of the actors, usually the face.Play with the control up and down and see how the skin color changes.Adjust the control more slowly until you get a match close to what the person's color would look like to you,were the person standing close to you.Hopefully, you are not in the habit of looking for aliens or martians. Hue: Also refers to color.Look for a color like red, blue or green and adjust the control to get the nearest match of that color in real life. These tips are to help you make a decision between the best available HDTV to date.And if you are like me who was debating between a CCRT LCD OR LED LCD, I hope that I have provided sufficient reasons why I went for a CCRT LCD rather than a LED LCD for now. Addendum (01/29/2010): AESTHETICS:We have had this TV for about 5 months now. No problems with it.And we have never been bored looking at it, either when it is turned ON or OFF.It is a beautiful piece and blends very well with other pieces of furniture in our family room.The black screen overlaps beautifully with the black frame.The design remains ever sleek and unobtrusive. SOUND:I have often wondered at the comments people have made about the sound quality not being loud enough. We have our TV hooked up to a Phillips 6 piece surround system that was already in place before the TV arrived.But without the surround system the TV Sound is fine.Our son prefers to play his game without the surround system and finds the inbuilt TV speakers more than adequate for him and neither have his friends complained when they come arround.For a TV this size and varying on the size of your room, a soundbar or an external surround system should be a fitting addition to the TV.Caution, if you do use an external speaker source with the TV remember to turn off the TV volume so that you do not get an echoing effect. Amazing TV I recently purchased this TV from Amazon and have been using it for about a week now. The picture is gorgeous out of my PC to the TV using a DVI to HDMI converter. Playing DVDs at 1080p is an amazing experience for me who is stepping up from a 27inch 720p set. There are loads of inputs to connect all your old equipment like a PS2 etc. You can send the audio out of the TV to your receiver using a single optical cable and this makes the clutter much less behind the receiver. The auto highlighting of the active inputs present on the TV makes it easy to know if the equipment you have connected is working or not. The touch of color is an ok feature..just makes the TV look good and most of the times you need good lighting behind the TV to actually see the red color on the edges. Is 120Hz worth it? Well right now it is not for the extra 200-300$ per set. I was thinking of getting the Sony Bravia with 120HZ but when I viewed the screen between these two i could not tell the difference. Films and games mostly are shot/produced at 24-30 frames/sec...since this set has twice the sampling 60hz you should expect a pretty smooth frame rate and should not have any motion lag. 120hz samples at 4 times and will make it look even smoother..but you would need a giant screen to note the difference. at this size it is marginal so save your money and go with this Gem from Samsung. Poor Support I purchased this TV in January 2009 and in May it developed a problem with the controls no longer interfacing with the TV (remote and side controls). At this point the TV was unusable. Then I entered into the nightmare of trying to get Samsung to fullfil their obligation under the warranty and repair the TV. They sent a contractor that I can never get on the phone, shows up hours later then the scheduled time, and never follows through. I have had to take countless hours out of my work day to keep calling over and over in an attempt to resolve the issue. The contractor is US Techdisplay LLC. The repair contractor has ordered parts, replaced parts, attempted three times to repair the TV. They said on the last visit that they would make a determination that the TV can not be repaired. Since that time I can not get an answer from Samsung and can not reach the repair contractor. The repair contractor will not return phone calls. When I speak to the Samsung Executive Customer Service I get no where. So, I have a TV that cost over $1000 in my house that does not work and has not been replaced. I have taken off work to wait for the contractor on three seperate occassions and always have to make calls myself in an attempt to resolve the issue. However, nothing is being resolved. The bottom line is that Samsung does not support their products and I advise your to buy another brand with better support so that you do not have to experience my nightmare. Alot of set for the price! We received our set over two weeks ago, and remain as excited as if it just arrived. What great color and what a sharp picture. We have a 37" Sony HDTV in our smaller living room, and this picture is even better; and we like our Sony a lot. It was an easy set to self install, and is an easy set to operate. Yet, it has the features and options to expand into a home theater with all the bells and whistles. The included swivel stand comes in handy, since the seating in our family room isn't isolated in one primary location. It certainly is a high value set at today's prices, and one you won't regret owning. Go for it!

Great picture, great price Well, the digital transition just wasn't all it was cracked up to be, so I finally bought a new TV. This TV has a stunning picture at a great price. Easy set up with clearly labeled slots at the back for the various inputs, and easy on-screen controls pop up when you need them. The size is just right even in a big room if you want a more traditional TV feel, rather than a *monster TV.* I'm delighted with the picture and the sound. DVD's are gorgeous on this screen, and plain vanilla TV is fun to watch again. If you're a first time buyer, you'll be thrilled. If you're adding a small TV to a guest room or exercise room, I think the picture and sound quality is great, and the price is good, too. Great Produce I have had this tv for 3 weeks and its been awesome. The colors are vivid, the sound is crisp and the use of the new style remote is simplistic. I have it hooked up to DirecTV and notice no blurry or pixelation on sports programming whatsoever. I would disgreard knee jerk negative reviews of this product. An excellent set! I was undecided between this 2009 model and last year's LN40A550. The features are substantially identical, but after figuring that the difference between best prices for the two, which I could find after extensive shopping around, was only $50, I went for newer one for its updated look and lighter weight. In the reviews, one of the principal complaints for 2008 was the sound quality. I can't directly compare 2009 and 2008, but found 2009's LN40B550 to have perfectly adequate, if not excellent speakers, as far as TVs go. Picture quality, menus, setup are excellent as expected. One aspect that I did find puzzling is Wiselink not being able to recognize my old trustworthy USB Flash Drive. I even tried formatting the drive in various ways, unfortunately none of the tricks worked. Perhaps, it's the ancient drive not being comparable in some way, but it had never let me down before. Anyhow, I ordered a few different flash drives, and will try again, and then post an update. ==================================== Tried four various flash drives, all of them work just fine in computers, all four freshly formatted same way (FAT32). Two of the drives are read by the TV with no problems, the two others are not recognized at all... Go figure... The slideshow functionality is nice, quite limited, but does the job. Just for the reference, one of the drives that does work in this TV is Kingston Data Traveler 4GB. Very, Very Pleased! Only the second night with this set and I can't unglue myself from it. This is a great sub-$1,000 set that will please all but the most hardcore videophiles. This set is also very light, I tucked it under my arm to move it up and down the stairs. ToC is subtle, almost invisible, so those who don't care for last year's ToC, don't worry, you can barely see it the color on this TV. The swivel stand makes it easy so access the rear of the TV to hook up the cables that it makes you wonder why other manufacturers make stands without the swivel feature. I had originally purchased an LG, but the off-angle viewing was awful, but from the same seating position, the Sammy shines. As with all LCDs, some color is lost when viewing from off-angle, but this set always displayed a picture that was acceptable. If there's a weakness, it's displaying standard definition, as in regular cable, but that's a challenge shared by most LCD screens. SD does not look as good as I've seen on some other LCDs, but the picture is more than acceptable. DVD's showed great... Upconverted DVD even better, I was impressed... Blu ray blew my mind. The color depth, the dark blacks, the crisp picture... I was VERY pleased. I am sure you will be too! ==================================================== Update 07/13/09... Almost 3 months and I'm still happy. Had it hooked up to a Samsung BDP2550 bluray player and it's awesome. Currently using the upconverting Samsung 1080P9 DVD player and it's still awesome. I have to sit closer than 7 feet to see any difference between DVD and bluray. Also connected to my PC via an 18ft HDMI cable, streaming Netflix and using Windows Media Center to view the NCIS and Star Trek episodes I have on my hard drive. Still a GREAT purchase and I recommend this set to anyone interested in a 1080p LCD. =================================================== Update 10/31/09... Hooked up a PS3 Slim last month and started viewing movies on Bluray... it's like I got a new TV! I've never been able to see a substantial difference between DVD and BD, but after a few months of just DVD, Bluray on my 40B550 is blowing me away once more! I think I just picked up another habit... no more DVD purchases, only Bluray. And with prices going down on flat screens, this set is a bargain at $849. Disappointing at best Well, had the LN40B550 foracouple of days, and must say was very diappointed with the picture quality. I did some more research outside of Amazon, and found this thread on AVSForum (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1126988&page=6), where many other users are experiencing the same picture quality issues, mostly blurring and ghosting (using digital cox cable with component connection). HD content looks good, but still grainy for some reason. Also, many other users has had requested technicians to come out and see if they can make any repairs, with most of them replacing the screen itself. But does not quite the fix the problem. My Vizio 32" LCD seems more crisper than this TV. I even upgraded the firmware, and adjusted the pitcure settings, but I'm just not satisfied with this TV. I will be returning it, and shop for another TV. Hope this helps.

Works great I got this TV a few days ago and it works great. It picked up some of the basic HD channels on Comcast cable without a converter box (thanks to the QAM tuner). The unit is stylish and thin, with a tilting base. The glossy finish is a nice touch and makes the frame seem smaller than it is. The speakers are on the bottom of the unit making it less wide, and they sound good too. Powered off there is no Stand By light and the ON indicator light is not obtrusive. The remore is average sized and is not excessive with the buttons, only the ones you need and its easy to figure out where they are in the dark. If you can get this TV in the sub $250 range, it is a great deal. I have two cons with this TV, and if they were not present this TV would be 5/5... -At the top and the bottom of the screen the LCD Back light bleeds through the black forming a glowing white area at the edges of the screen -There is no On/Off timer so you can set it to come on in the morning and then turn off, there is only a sleep timer. When it works it works good I gave this to my wife for Christmas. After about i month it would not turn on. My wife called Phillips and they sent out a new TV. After 1 1/2 weeks the new one does the same thing. If they are unplugged for a while they turn on and remember all of the settings. When it works, it looks and sounds good. Setup was very easy and it detected the 10 digital stations we get from cable. Rather than get another problem tv sent to us I may just plug it in to a power strip and turn it off and on from that. The TV does have a sleep timer. Knowing what I know now, I would not buy this again or recommend it to anyone else. Not worth the hassle.... My fiance and I just bought this TV from Walmart just before Thanksgiving, not even 2 weeks after the purchase the TV started acting up. It would just decide to not turn on. We looked on Philips' website for help, their answer was that the TV needed to be in standby mode (yellow light). When you turn it on there should be a green light. Not only did our TV only display a blue light, it was never yellow or green... we called Philips, they asked us to unplug it then asked for our address so that they can send a different one. The TV they sent was a scuffed up refurb. Two days later, that one does the same darn thing. Called them yet again, they send us another one. Not only did we have a problem with the sets, we're now having issues with the customer service. They expect us to send the sets back and we'd have to drive over 40 miles to get to a FedEx drop point to send it back because they issued the wrong FedEx labels for the free shipping. The woman we talked to at Philips said that she would e-mail us the label and call us in the morning to give us more instructions-She never even called back and it has been over 2 days! We're just glad that we still have the original set and receipt so we can trade it back in at Walmart and upgrade to a TV that works! If the first 3 sets don't work, this model obviously has something major wrong with it. They don't even have good enough repair shops to fix them without damaging the overall appearance of the TV. The customer service is poor and they don't even walk you through the problem, they just try to fix it by sending a refurb without giving you the proper labels to send back the other defective TV. Don't bother with this TV, or Philips for that matter... Its not worth the hassle!!!

Great TV, great image I just bought this tv and had it installed yesterday! I was unsure wheter my TV rack would hold it (it was build to hold a 42"), but it's doing just fine! This TV actually feel almost as heavy as my 2007 42", which I suppose is due to new materials used. The instalation is a breeze. It comes with a connections guide (in case you need one), and taking it out of the box couldn't be easier. You might think that getting a 52" tv out of the box might be something short of a suicidal thing, but it's actually very very easy! The whole box comes out from the top, leavint the TV sitting neatly on it's stand on the floor, ready to be picked up and be placed wherever. After you plug it in, a settings assistant comes up, and helps you set up the picture the way you like it, without messing with numbers or complicated settings. You just look at which of the 2 pictures shown you like better, and select it. Do this 5 times, and you're set. Off course, you can edit all the little details later. Installing all the channels took around 2-3 minutes, and I have about 200 channels, between digital and analog. No issues here. It's also nice and fast to change channels. Like that. Some TVs take a long time to change channels, don't know why. The picture is GREAT. If you've never seen the image of a 1080p 120hz TV before, check it out. Watching a HD movie on this is as good as it gets, and in my opinion, the quality beats other more expensive brands. Another nice feature is that the speakers are all in the back, so you don't see them, but they actually sound as good as if they were right there. Again, not sure how they do this. All and all, very happy with this TV. Recommend for anyone who wants a nice movie experience at home, or enjoy playing Tennis with their Wii, and always complain that 42" "just isn't enough" :) Bring TV viewing to life! We bought this television from the Navy Exchange in April 2008, before it really went into production. We waited 4 months for its arrival, and it was worth every minute of that wait. The natural motion processors make the picture so realistic that it's like you're looking through a window at real people. The perfect pixel system gives you a picture that's so clear, you won't ever be able to watch a plain tv again. There are enough personalized settings that, no matter what your taste, you'll be able to set the picture up exactly the way you like it. We did have one small problem with the set: It would randomly turn itself off. The set came right back on every time, but it was a real pain. We called the support number listed on the website and were pleased to find an easy fix. Steve, the support guy, gave us a downloadable file to upgrade the tv's software. We put it on a memory stick, popped it into the USB port of the tv, and it automatically upgraded the tv without any problems at all. The problem is gone now and we're back to watching tv with a smile. Please note that these newer tv's require software updates from time to time. You're responsible for keeping it upgraded, so check back frequently. If you do need to call the nice people at Philips, please be sure to have your model and serial number handy. spend more on a better brand, or less on a Vizio Had this tv for about a week, and kept trying to give it the benefit of the doubt, but from what I have read Philips just cannot make good tv's. The picture was not up to par with other tv's in the same price/size range. More importantly, there seems to be a major issue with their HDMI inputs. When hooked up to my cable box via HDMI, the tv took around 45 seconds to display the picture after powering on, and the sound would never come on; the only solution was to unplug the HDMI and plug it back in. Now, most people would say "it must be a problem with your cable box", but the same box worked fine on my 2006 Dell brand LCD tv, and works perfectly fine on the new Sony LCD that I purchased to replace this pile. Furthermore, a friend of mine purchased this tv at the same time as me. Using a different cable box had the same problem, and he ended up returning his as well. Avoid this tv, and don't be taken in by the price point. Purchase a better brand for slightly more, or if money is the deciding factor, go with a Vizio instead. You'll save even more, and maybe it will work. The only upside to buying this tv for me was that I had no hassles in returning it. Amazing picture, but needs some setup to have it Amazing picture, but only if you setup certain things: turn off "Active control" turn off "Dynamic contrast" and you will have a perfect picture. More updates(3 months later)...Excellent picture w/ so-so sound(1 wk after delivery)... 3 months later: Did not regret a bit on my purchase. Excellent HD LCD TV! More I use it, the more I love it. ************************************************************************************************************************** 1 week after delivery: Watch the Olympic opening ceremony on a Phillip 47" wall-mounted LCD @ a local restaurant and was amazed by the sharp and beautiful picture of it. When a 1-day special of $699 from amazon.com listed on "[...]" comes up, jumped @ the opportunity to get one myself. Also, purchased an extended 2-yr warranty w/ it for $99 just in case. So far, no problem, and very happy w/ it. Ordered it on a Thurs, got it delivered the following Friday (from Dallas, TX to S.F., CA). Very easy to setup. Took me less than 10 mins. Pictures is as beautiful & sharp as ever. No disappointment or surprises there. Sound-wise, a little disappointing at first. Based on some of the older dvd movie soundtrack, at times I've to turn the volume way up to get decent sound. But when I go out and bought a brand new "Madonna Italy concert" dvd, the sound was excellent. So, I guessed, it all depends on the soundtrack that comes w/ the dvd. TV reception is good and clear. I used an external antenna. No cable, at least not yet. Remote work well. All controls easy to follow. Haven't read the user guide yet. 4 HDMI ports are plenty. So far, using 1 hdmi port for my vcd+dvd recorder/player combo deck, and AV port for my karoake deck. USB port works well w/ my digital video camera. Still got plenty ports left for other hookups. With average sound, plan on getting a Bose 5.1 surround sound home theater system in the near future to go w/ it. With Bose sound and Phillip excellent picture, that should complete my new home entertainment center. Wrap up: 1. Great price. 2. Easy setup. 3. Excellent picture. 4. Easy to use. 5. So-so sound...but w/ getting a Bose theater surrond sound system in the near future, it should be fantastic. I'm very happy and it's a great buy.

GREAT TV This is a great TV to have. I had a Sony HDTV W-L series. It was my first TV and I was happy with it, but once I saw this TV in a retail store I had to get one. TV comes with 4 HDMI ports and a USB port. The picture is great, but the sound is okay. I would recommend a AV theater system, albeit Denon AVR-1909. I'm very impressed with the Perfect Pixel HD engine (motion flow), because the characters on screen looks so real. I like the fact the TV comes with a USB port. I recently updated the TV with the latest firmware upgrade. Though, I was not experiencing any problems with TV, but you will never know the recent firmware will fix any problems you may occur with your TV in the adjacent future. Bottom line, it's a great TV to have and it will make a great addition to anyone's living room or Den. WOW did we make the right decision in getting this TV! We
considered the 42" and decided to just go ahead and get what we really
wanted- the big one!

The picture and sound was pretty good when we installed it while
awaiting Dish Network's coming out to switch us over to HDTV, but once
we switched, it was truly breathtaking. Beautiful clarity, rich colors
and very good sound.

I say go for the biggest you can handle, get the HDMI cable for your
hookup (NOT INCLUDED) and sit back and enjoy theatre quality
broadcasts. Be sure to get this model and not the older one which isn't
120hz. I saw a difference. And as for what irritated other reviewers-
the remote- I see it as streamlined- not chintzy. Besides, who uses
that remote on a regular basis?

Just can't say enough about the quality of Philips TV's. We now have three in the house. But this one is definitely the best!

Guinea pig? Buying this Philips makes me feel like a bit of a pioneer; there are no reviews of this fairly new set ... at least any I could find. Compared to other 32-inchers, the specs on the 32PFL6704D/F7 (who names these things?) are pretty impressive given its price-point: 1080p, 120hz and a 2ms response time. Costco prices it at $599 -- about $200 below the MSRP, and about $100 below Dell and Amazon. (Put these specs on a Sony or Samsung and you'll pay about $900, even at the online discounters.) Setup was breezy, and the side-by-side picture quality tool that confronts you on the first boot-up seems pretty handy. You're asked to pick a side of the TV that looks the best, and through a series of 5 or 6 screens the TV determines your preferences. It could be a gimmick, though, because there's the usual array of color, sharpness, tint and other tweaks in the options menu. It took about two minutes for the internal tuner to snap up all the HD-broadcasting stations in the Kansas City area using a simple set of rabbit ears. It was pretty astounding to see a decidedly low-tech antenna deliver HD content and end-run all the hype about needing an HD-capable digital-tier from your cable monopoly. I'm only getting the local affiliates, mind you, but still. (Of course, most HDTVs do this these days, so it's not really something that makes this model stand out.) The picture is fantastic. Colors are crisp, fast-motion sports and gaming are smooth, and I notice the difference between the 120hz refresh rate and the 60hz on other sets. I think I understand why 1080p is lost on a TV this small, but for the price I did well to get it, and I suspect I'll notice a difference when I load up a Blu-ray disc. Standard-def: I was pleasantly surprised that the set did a reasonable job with my SD Tivo. I mean, yeah, it's a comparatively bad picture, but it's watchable. I think many reviewers who hate on their HDTV's ability to process SD content go a little overboard. (Or, maybe I'm just good at managing my expectations.) Gaming: The Xbox 360 looks stunning. No discernable lag. It's that simple. Sound: Read any review of Samsung, Sony, LG or other brands and you'll get complaint after complaint about speaker quality. Flat-panel sets just aren't big enough to house quality speakers. And out of the box, the Philips defaults to the worst of two sound settings. I forget what it's called, but I changed it to the better setting, and it sure was a lot closer to the overcooked "incredible surround" promoted by Philips. It's not incredible, and they know it, and you shouldn't expect 5.1 or even 2.1 -- but the on-board sound is no slouch. I can even pick up a bit of faux-surround, and the settings include an equalizer that you can use to tweak the highs and lows. Overall, I'm pleased. I'll try to update this in the coming weeks. But these are my initial impressions, and I hope it helps others who've been waiting for a review on this one. Best 32" 1080p HDTV I don't normally write reviews for any of the products I purchase but felt the need to say something about this TV which thus far has been one of my most satisfying $500+ purchases. For starters, there are not too many 1080p 32" TVs out there. Most are 720p and yet cost just as much as this Philips, if not more. I am simply amazed with the quality of the picture and even the sound from the rear facing speakers. My PS3 games look fantastic on this 120Hz screen. There are 4 HDMI inputs which is plenty for many. All settings are a breeze to adjust. Cant go wrong with this TV and thus far, Philips has not disappointed me as my DVD player and several other components are from them also. No need to pay the premium for Sony or Samsung. It's a good tv, it's not a great tv I purchased this set at costco for $[...] because the spec sheet looked just amazing. Its got full hd resolution as well as 120hz, and the set is by far the best looking flat screen tv. There's minimal plastic around the screen, it's thin, and overall it's just a looker. So very much better looking than the Panasonic and Samsungs of the same size. Looks aside, the tv picture is simply not as good as other 32 inch tv's (and [...] agrees, they've reviewed the same model at 40in I believe). For one thing, there's significant patches of flashlighting all over the screen, most of which is on the upper left side. I suppose this could have been just my unit, but it was so annoying that it had to be returned. Flashlighting is basically patches of light when you're viewing a black screen. Of course, this might not bother you if you just watch regular tv, but if you're buying the set to watch movies or play video games, you're going to see light patches when the scene is dark. This drove me absolutely nuts. Aside from the flashlighting issue, I have to agree with what other reviewers wrote. It looks like there is too much light on people's faces. I couldn't get rid of this even after going through the set up and choosing darker resolutions etc. It looks like faces are glossy whiteish, which also drove me nuts. It's really not all bad though. First off, the tv has full HD, and the colors, other than black, are absolutely vivid and beautifully rendered. Also, at that price point, where else are you going to get a 1080p 120hz 32 inch with 2ms response time? I mean dollar for dollar, this set is quite good. So, if you're not a gamer, and can live with some of its flaws, the price is excellent and the set will fit your needs. But if you're planning on hooking up the Ps3 to play games and watch movies, etc. I think you'll be disappointed. I was. Hope this helps!

Don't throw yours out before you read this! Pros: Great picture, good sound. Cons: Most of these televisions do not work properly. To date, it seems no one has figured out the root cause. Even the "REFURBISHED" units have this problem. Summary: I HAVE FOUND AND FIXED THE PROBLEM. You see, the video processor is mounted under a shield "can" on the mainboard. It gets very hot during normal operation and will cause the set to shut down, squeal through the speakers, not turn on after a few hours and so forth. All of this can be mitigated by removing the shield can and installing a small 12VDC fan to the heatsink. Don't worry, removing the shield doesn't effect tuner operation or cause undesirable operation. I used self-drilling screws, taking care to remove all aluminum bits with a few blasts of compressed air. #6 screws fit perfectly between the fins on the heatsink. 12V is available on the main board (it is actually labeled on the power supply). Note that the 12V drops to 11.4V when the set is turned "off", so the fan runs continuously. If you buy a quiet ball bearing type you will likely never hear it running. If it's still too loud, install a 10 ohm 2W resistor inline with the positive lead of the fan. It will run more slowly, but still move adequate air. Cover the resistor in heat shrink tubing (and shrink it) to avoid shorts to the mainboard. You might even be OK just removing the can without installing the fan, but I didn't try this. ENJOY!! Great TV! I bought this TV to replace the one in our bedroom, that was destroyed by a surge during a recent storm. (Dumb me, I didn't have a surge protector on it!) The old TV was a 13 inch screen and this one seems huge in comparison. It's the perfect size for the bedroom and has exceptional picture and sound quality. It fits with any decor and I absolutely love it. I would recommend it to anyone who asked! DON'T FORGET THE SURGE PROTECTOR! NO WAY WOULD I PURCHASE THIS AGAIN! I purchased one in June 2008 .. had problems with it .. plug in .. play for a few days .. then no power .. unplug .. work for a while .. then start all over again. Returned to Walmart in July .. no problem with return since it was within the 30 day. They said they'd had no problems with returns so I got another one on their recommendation .. BIG MISTAKE. It is now four months later (we JUST threw out the packing box thinking we were FINALLY safe) and now again the same problem .. no power no matter how many times we we plug in or what we try. We give up .. $350 down the drain! The cost of shipping and the hassle of it all .. lesson learned! I'm going out today to buy another one for the kitchen .. just not a Phillips!

Just aweful! Very handsome t.v., okay sound (we hooked up a surround sound because it wasn't the best quality), cheasy remote, but over all we were satisfied with it's picture and HDTV is fantastic! However, we bought this Philips 52" LCD HDTV just 15 months ago, and now it's a very expensive paper weight. After we found out that Philips Customer Service wasn't interested in talking to us (no warranty, no service!), we had to hunt down a "certified Philips Repair Center". First we had to pay them to come pick up the massive T.V. for $70.00, then we paid an additional $50.00 to have it diagnosed. We had to purchase the schematics for the T.V. repair tech because he didn't have them on hand, (?!) that was an additional $30.00 we had to pay Philips. In the end, the LCD is completely dead and it will cost $1200.00 to replace. $150.00 to find out we've been had! There are other reviews I've seen recently that say the same thing, no customer support and no way to fix the t.v. without purchasing a part that costs nearly the same as a brand new t.v. I've seen reviews where customers say it only lasted for 7 months, and no way to repair or replace it. I guess 15 months was pretty lucky? So buyers beware, Philips won't back up their product, won't deal with you, and it's probably going to cost you more than the t.v. is worth to have it fixed if anything goes wrong. We will not be purchasing any Philips products from now on considering how much we paid for that paper weight. Now I have to pay a fee to have it dumped, to add insult to injury! (We did not have the option of buying an extended warranty, since we bought it direct from Philips!) Love it so much I have two This review is being posted after 7 months of ownership. I moved to digital TV this past winter. The worst thing about going to a nice TV was it made my other TVs show their age. So I treated myself to more than one. I bought a total of 4 different brands thinking that I would have a REALLY nice TV in my living room and something less spectacular in my bedroom. I ended up returning a more expensive TV to get a second Phillips because the Phillips looked and sounded better side by side. Others smarter than I may talk about technical specs that make this an inferior TV. I am not interested in that debate. I know which one looked best when I had them side-by-side in my home. Watching blu ray movies is nothing less than awesome (when you get a GREAT movie recorded in blu ray.) FYI, I looked mostly at 120Hz LCDs, but did try one plasma TV. And in case you were wondering, yes, these are quite a pain in the behind to repackage and take back to the store. But I have no shame when I am spending this much money and I can look at the output side-by-side and I realize the cheaper TV looks better. Great for the 7 months that it worked I bought this TV in June 2009 from Sam's club. I noticed that every tenth time I would turn it on, the Philips logo was distorted. Philips said that is normal. Yesterday, I turned on the tv and when I tried to change the input, the menu was faded and pink. Pretty much every menu
and input setting was faded with lines along the screen. Power cycling
did not help. Thank God for Sams because otherwise I would have had a
paperweight or had to wait for Philips to repair my unit.

Here are the good things while I had it:

-Great sound

-Great response time, okay picture

-Heavy duty glass stand

Bad things:

-uses 350watts of power which is like having a plasma tv

-Crappy contrast ratio

-You better hope you have a warranty on this thing. That would
explain why Sams club is clearing these out at $998. If you are going
to buy one of these things, buy the longest warranty you can.

-no VGA input for computers, annoying changing inputs

I loved Philips and had great respect from them since they are well
known in the healthcare field. But after seeing these issues, I have
concluded that these newer TV's in general are just heavy paperweights.
They probably build them in China now and expect the consumer to shell
out 2k every 3-5 years instead of the good ol' days where our old RCA
set lasted 26 years! Regardless these things depreciate faster then my
car. This TV was $1499+tax 6 months ago and the year before that was
$2399! So in 2 years, it has lost $1300. I am going to just go buy
myself a cheap Vizio or Insignia with a credit card keep it for 2 years,
resell, and get another one.

Hope this helps anyone considering buying this set. I would say go
for it but get an extended warranty!

PIECE OF JUNK and WORTHLESS WARRANTY! I purchased one of these TVs from Sam's Club in May of 2009. Once I brought it home and hooked it up I found that the speakers would cut out from time to time. I contacted the Philips customer service hotline and had a technician in my house by the beginning of October! Unfortunately, Philips had contracted their repair services to a moron that didn't know anything about the warranty process. After waiting 2 weeks for the original repairman to move my claim along, I decided to contact Philips again. Ultimately, Philips put me in touch with a repair shop about an hour away from my home. Once they came out to my house they replaced the Audio/Visual board in the TV and told me it would be fine. The next day my wife and I watched a movie. The sound was working; however, the TV had difficulty turning on. I had to fiddle with the power button for up to 10 minutes to get the TV to come on! I called Philips and the repair shop to arrange for another repair. The repairman came to my home, disassembled the TV, and found out the A/V board they had installed was bad. In addition, one of the speakers had blown a capacitor and destroyed the speaker cone! The repairman said he would have to order the speakers as a replaceable unit and come back next week to do the installation. By this time it is the end of November and I had already spoken to 15 different people at the Philips customer service hotline (I wrote down everyone's name). Finally, Philips told me that they would give me a "refurbished" TV in exchange for the piece of junk instead of having the repairman schedule another service call. The only problem is that I have to wait 2 to 3 weeks for shipping. Or I can give them my credit card number so they can ship me the "refurbished" TV immediately. Once I receive the "refurbished" TV I can send them the piece of junk and they will remove the hold on my credit card. I decided to ship the piece of junk to them and wait for the "refurbished" TV. While I wait for the freight company to come pick up my piece of junk I decided to watch a movie without sound going through the TV. I watched about 1/2 an hour of a movie and the screen turned pink and the TV shut off. I can't turn it back on! I tried for over half an hour! I called customer service rep number 16 to give him and update on my piece of junk. Of course, he can't help me and tells me that I probably won't even get an apology letter I requested from his supervisor or company. Now I have a 47" piece of plastic that cost me $1000. I took it off of the entertainment center and put it on the ground. I hope my dogs chew on it. That would be ABOVE the quality of this piece of junk. I get to wait 3 to 4 weeks for a "refurbished" TV. I asked for my money back but Philips said they can't do that at this time. I would have to receive the "refurbished" TV and it would have to be broken as well for me to get my money back. I am never buying another Philips product in my life. EVER! Great Value Purchased this TV recently at Costco and find it to be a great value. Picture is nice and clear, great sound, overall happy with the purchase especially for the price. Great television I've had this TV for about a month and it's been great. Its a fantastic size, the sound is great, perfect HD picture, and you can see it very clearly from even wide angles (which a lot of LCDs do not do well). I read some reviews that the black contrast was not great on this set, and I have noticed that in some dimly lit scenes, but it has not been a very big noticeable problem. Overall, for the price I paid, I feel like I made an investment in a great big-screen TV

Great picture watching hockey Compared this model to last years,both sitting side by side at big box store and about $100.00 difference. New model well worth the extra dough. Both have 120hz, but this model has 50,000 contrast ratio vs.20,000, speaker system was better but still not the best. 4 HDMI (3 in back one on side),nice remote but I linked to my dish one. The base will swivel about 30-40 degrees either way. The onscreen set up was very easy and designed for your own taste in picture and sound. My one gripe is that it only has 1 anolog and 1 composite audio out,no fiber optic to hook to my reciever. The composite sounds good, but a audiophile might notice a difference. Still. a great set for the money. Super UPgrade First off let me start by saying, I am VERY happy with this Philips LCD HDTV 42inch (6000 series). It was a definite upgade from my 32inch Sharp, with that said let me start my review. Appearence: When i first saw the delivery men with my TV, I was in total AWW. Just the box alone was stunning, then when i finally started the unwrapping and got it mounted to the TV stand and on my dresser I took about 5 minutes just analyzing this beautiful TV. It has a nice glossy THIN border around the TV(which i found perfect)so I have more TV to watch lol. The TV stand is great it swivels left/right for optimal viewing angle. The Screen has a nice matte finish so there is hardly any glare if TV is facing a window, even with no picture the screen size is just simply overwhelming. Ease of Use: Philps 42inch LCD HDTV is very user friendly. As soon as you turn on the TV it prompts you to start the TV setup with detailed and very easy on-screen instructions to help you find the right settings for your viewing pleasure. In the case you are having trouble you can always refer to the handy instruction booklet or call philips great customer service. Picture Quality: The picture quality on this TV is extraordinary, one those factors being the 50000:1 contrast ratio. It makes the black look super rich and not faded as you would notice on other TV's, another feature on this TV is the 2ms response time.. let me warn you if you currently do not own a TV with a response time of 3ms or lower it will take some time getting used to this, because it makes the movies look like they are being played in fast forward. Don't get me wrong when you get used to the picture it looks AMAZING, it makes the image look almost 3D.. I literally watched 3 movies one after another because i couldn't keep my eyes off the damn thing lol. (Of course for the picture perfect quality you will need to have HD service from your local Cable/satellite provider and HDMI cables help out a lot) Sound Quality: I have done my research and I always see other reviewers writing bad things about the sound quality of the philips TV's. Now, from personal viewing and listening I can respond by saying that it is absolutely not true.. I would assume that if you have furniture, that is going to be obstructing the left, top, and or right side of the TV you are going to have difficulties hearing unless you up the volume to about 80-85. Now, the notion that the TV has poor sound you can dismiss that BS.. I can watch my TV from about 9 feet away, have the volume on 20 and still hear perfect. Remember, I have my TV on the stand about 3 inches from the wall. As you can see I have rated this product with 5 stars, and trust me it deserves more. This TV is outstanding and honestly it is a TV that will last a lifetime, I plan on never getting rid of this great product.. I am extremely happy with my purchase and I would recommend this TV to everyone in my family so that goes the same for my Amazon.com family!! "SENSE AND SIMPLICITY" Quality you can trust at a great value! I've owned a number of Philips products over the years, my first was their flagship A/V 5.1 Receiver and a matching CD player, purchased through a friend whose dad worked for Philips, back in about 1991. I used those two pieces until 2001, and sold them on Ebay for a pretty good price for me and the buyer. I wish I still had them for a separate room, even if just used for music, and I bet they'd still be working quite well today. My point is that I gained a lot of trust in the Philips brand over that period of time. I'm a big Sony fan when it comes to video products. But I decided to give Philips a try again and in the two months I've owned this TV I've been quite pleased. No, it's not a Sony XBR, and Philips will likely never compare, but for what you get with the this Philips for the price, you won't be disappointed. I'm not using this for a top notch home theatre room. If you're building on that, then you're likely looking at the wrong TV here. This makes a great family room TV. It's easy to use for the whole family, and the quality of the picture is for sure good enough to stand up to the middle of the road Sony models that are at least $300 more. As for my technical review here. I don't give it very high marks for appearance, not because the overall look isn't nice, because it's bezel and stand are completely black plastic and that static material attracts dust like no other. It's too bad TV manufacturers don't frame their displays in aluminum like Apple's 30 inch cinema display, but powder-coated black. Of course that would likely boost the price way out of this price point. The picture quality of this TV is wonderful! Like I said no complaints yet. I don't have a Blu-ray hooked into this, but my 1080p upscaling DVD player looks quite awesome, and HD programming via cable looks flawless. The World Series was awesome to watch on this TV, due to it's 120Hz Clear LCD, 2ms performance for superb motion sharpness. Also, the 50000:1 contrast ratio does produce very nice deep blacks. As for the sound on this TV, well the "invisible speakers with incredible surround" are pretty much worthless. This is now a trend to put the speakers on the back of flat panel TVs so that the bezel can be thinner all the way around the screen. Nice idea, but this means ideal TV placement is necessary. In fact, I would guess just setting the TV on a stand with it about 6" from a wall with no other cabinet walls or obstructions would be best. Placing it inside an entertainment center reduces the sound clarity to an unacceptable low! So, I'd recommend also buying a soundbar or some form of 5.1± speaker system. Lastly, the swivel stand is a huge bonus that I don't believe any other brand offers!

A very nice picture, and easy to use I'm very happy with my new Sharp. The picture is very nice, it was easy to set up when I received it (didn't even open the manual yet), and the remote control was thoughtfully designed. I just hooked it up to a regular TV antenna bought at the dollar store, and it picked up all the digital channels in my area with no problem. The only thing I don't like about it is that the sound isn't rich like on my old-fashioned TV. I haven't tried hooking it up to a computer yet, or a DVD player, so can't comment on that. It's a good buy, especially for the price. A Dog I was very disappointed in this set. I have 3 other Sharp LCD's and purchased this one for the kitchen. Could not adjust the "haze" out of it. I had bought a 22" Samsung and was going to take it back if this one worked out glad I waited to return it. The Samsung had a much better picture. Excellent, easy to use tv I bought this tv after selling my 42" to save money. I expected the quality to be significantly less than my big screen tv was, and I expected to be disappointed in the size difference. I was surprised and relieved to find that this tv had great quality and is very reliable. I have never had any problems with it, and I have had it for about 6 months. The only small irritance I have had with it is that every once in a while if I have a fan on then the sound is not as loud as I would like. But, for a small tv, it is what you might expect.

Outstanding I have been researching on and off for almost 6 months trying to find the "perfect" tv that will fit my needs and my pocketbook. I have reviewed the technical details and the specifications of numerous tvs and had narrowed the search down to the Samsung LN46B630 and the Phillips 47 PFL6704D. I had decided on the Samsung and went to my local Sam's Club to buy it when the manager of the electronics area, told me they had a rash of returns on the Samsungs over the last month. I had no reason not to switch as both units were at the top of my list, but after making my decision and purchasing the Phillips and using it for 10 days, I know I made the right decision. Arriving home with the TV my wife assisted me in removing it from the box. This task is made very easy by the clever design of the box. It is a two person job. Do not try it by yourself as you are likely to tip it over and damage the TV. The next day, the Direct TV guy came and installed our dish and hooked up the tv. He hooked up the tv and couldn't believe the tv didn't appear to need any adjustment right out of the box. He also couldn't believe how effective the matte screen reduced the amount of reflection nearly to zero. I have only had one LCD TV and that was a 26inch Vizio in my RV. It seemed to take forever to get that adjusted for acceptable color etc. The Phillips seemed to need no adjustment so I thought I would wait for a few days before making any adjustments. The PFL670 is a 120 Hz so one sees no "judder" and its 2 ms response time is so fast you don't have ANY lag time or jerky movements during fast action scenes. The colors are bright and vivid it kind of reminded me of when I got new glasses my entire world brightened up. So it is with the Phillips TV. I have a friend who is a TV tech at a national electronics store coming over tomorrow. He told me he will be glad to make any adjustments since they don't sell Phillips at his store. He wants to be able to compare it to the Samsung and other models they do sell. He was very skeptical that the set would be "IN TUNE" right out of the box. If possible, I will come back and make additions and corrections to this review when he has completed his "tune up". In summary, my wife and I are both pleased beyond belief that we found a TV that meets all our needs including the lack of reflections by the matte screen. We wish that all our decisions would work out this well. I want to add, that I don't think it fair that people mark a TV up or down with delivery issues. The delivery has nothing to do with the product and it's performance. Delivery is a separate issue. I rate the Phillips soley on it performance and its specs. I try to compare it to other products and their specs. When a product does not meet its specs it should be downgraded in the review. In the case of this particular Phillips TV, in my opinion, this model meets or exceeds all the specs. The contrast issue of 50K to 1 with this model is reduced by the matt screen. If you have a glossy screen you will have a sharper black. However, with a matte screen and a setting with the potential for reflection, our living room with a walk thru patio door, we were more concerned with reflection than we were with sharper blacks. After all, 50K is right up there with the best of them regardless of the matte screen. Extremely Impressed I spent hours comparing the features and picture quality of this HDTV versus similarly priced and sized Vizio and Sanyo models. The audio blew away the Vizio in volume (appeared to be equal that of the Sanyo), and the picture quality of the Philips seemed to be slightly better than the Sanyo (and equal to the Vizio) when compared side by side. The Sanyo had a ton of features on the remote to adjust the picture, however the Philips scored high in terms of "ease of use" in setting up a great picture to your own preference. The Philips also had better specs than the other two brands, e.g. the response time was a blazing 2 ms which makes for sharper dynamic images. I also researched all three models on line, and found that there were many complaints about the Vizio breaking just after the one year warranty expired. When all was said and done, I took the Philips 47 inch TV home. After viewing this TV for about a month, I have nothing but praise for it. The clarity is fabulous and the colors are vibrant and realistic. Watching certain shows/movies in HD just blows me away; the depth of field is so deep that the picture has a three dimensionality to it. The equalizer is a great feature for the audio, and presents a very nice sound stage and is so powerful at 20 Watts there's a lot of volume on reserve. I also like the "Power Saver" preset mode and use it often. It gives a very decent picture yet it uses considerably less than its 285 peak power consumption. With it's 4 HDMI and 4 A/V ports, along with S-Video and USB 2.0 (for viewing AVI as well as WMV movies directly from a flash drive), this TV has all the ports you would need for any home entertainment center. Hooking up a laptop (Mac) was easy after buying a DVI-HDMI adapter (but if you do use an adapter you'll also need a separate cable for your audio). The remote control is sleek (even for smaller hands), ergonomic, and easy to use. It has the look and feel of a quality remote that will last. When I phoned Philips for help hooking up my laptop to the TV, they answered the phone promptly and were very helpful, professional and courteous. I have phoned them in the past with questions (I have other Philips products) and have always been very satisfied with my experience with Customer Service/Tech Support. I highly recommend this TV for anyone looking for a larger HDTV at a good price. To me Philips means quality, and I am becoming a loyal customer with every purchase I make.

Great Picture and Features, plus it's eco-friendly This is an excellent TV. Picture Quality: The picture quality of this set is superb. In the setup menu, I set the picture to "vivid" mode and the HD quality is simply life-like. The color and contrast are excellent. It also uses something that Sony calls MotionFlow which helps to smooth out the image when you are watching fast-action pictures. Backlight Technology: It is an LCD set, but uses a hot cathode fluorescent lamp for its backlighting. This technology allows it to be much more energy efficient and close to par with the energy usage of LED backlit LCD TVs. Most LCDs use cold cathode fluorescent lamps. The 40" model uses a maximum of 140 watts, the 46" uses a max of 160 watts, and the 52" uses a max of 180 watts. Eco-Friendly: It has a sensor called a presence sensor that does two things. First it senses the ambient (room) light and if the room gets darker, it will automatically dim the picture of the TV. This works well if you are watching TV in the bedroom at night and you want less light output. The second thing that the sensor does is senses the room for motion and body heat. If you leave the room for a preset amount of time (5 min, 30 min, ...) and the TV doesn't sense anyone around, it will turn off the picture. If you walk back in the room, it senses you and turns the screen back on. The sound stays on for another 30 minutes or so, then the whole set will go into stand-by mode if it does not sense you. Both of these features can be turned off via the setup menu and help to conserve energy. Features (just a few of them): The TV is loaded with features. It will automatically sense if you have something connected to an input (for example HDMI2). This is great when you want to hit the input button on the remote because it will not select items that aren't currently sending out a signal. This means you don't have to scroll through 10 items if you only have two components connected to the TV. In the setup menu, you can set each input for always on, always off, or auto. I used the always on setting for the PC input because the cable I used to connect the PC did not send a power signal so the TV did not sense it. By setting it to always on, the PC input will always be available when I scan through the inputs. It also has a lot of inputs. There are 4 HDMI inputs. If you have a DVI port on your PC, then you can connect it through HDMI port 1 which also has an analog audio input. There is one dedicated composite (with S-video) and one dedicated component input, but there is another switchable composite/component input that you can use if you have two composites and one component, or vice versa. There is a PC input to connect via VGA connection. The audio outputs are one optical digital out and one analog out. Dislikes: 1. All of the Inputs and Output are on the left side (when looking at the front of the TV) of the TV. This is unfortunate for me since my A/V cabinet is on the right side of the TV. It is a minor inconvenience, but something that I did not think about until I got the set home. I would say about half of the inputs are one the left side and the other half are on the back, next to the side inputs. 2. The presence sensor is right where I have my center audio speaker. I will have to raise up the TV to still have that speaker front and center. Overall, this is not a cheap TV, but I think this is a case where you get what you pay for. It is a really great set. Not for everyone. But read on. Let me start by saying this might have been an awesome LCD TV. I bought mine from Sears at a fantastic sale price ($850) less a 10% Sears card discount. The more I read about this TV the more I liked it. The Good: If all you plan to do is watch High Def sources (Blu Ray, HD TV, etc.) then you will love this TV. It has a beautiful HD picture and comes with many great features. With 100,000:1 contrast ratio and 120 HZ refresh it is top shelf. Claims super low power use and appearance is very nice. If you do not plan to watch anything "non" HD then I can recommend this TV. Otherwise, read on to learn more. The Bad: This issue will not bother everyone but it bothered me enough to return the TV (very reluctantly) to Sears. Major kudos to Sears for their courtesy. This [intermittent] issue is with non-HD sources such as regular cable signal using coax input or standard DVD using composite input. Given a low light scene (i.e. night scene) the brightness level would vary as if in "search mode". Sometimes the picture would fade to almost black and then snap back to normal or anywhere in between as the scene changed. We used our new Sony as the main TV and watched everything on it (old shows, new shows, HD stations, standard DVDs of which we have over a hundred and not likely to be converting them all over to Blu Ray $$$$!!!) and this problem was noticed on multiple channels and DVDs. In addition, std DVDs using the Component video (RGB) input looked pretty bad but that may be somewhat adjustable and up-converting may help. I did not get that far. I tested another identical TV purchased by a friend with the same results. This bothered me more than it did the rest of my family but I refuse to pay that much for anything that does not work properly out-of-the-box. Please note that I did give Sony support one chance to rectify this issue but never got past the first level inexperienced "receptionist" who asked the usual "no-brainer" questions. I had to explain to him the actual menu path (his "resources" were incorrect) to get to the backlight/light sensor settings only to confirm that the factory defaults were as they should be. I left Sony some feedback on that issue. If it was a known issue then Sony could have told me a fix was in the works and I would have been OK with that. If it is not yet known to them (not likely) then a fix may never happen. Their loss for not escalating my call. Plus now they have a poor review to deal with. I really hated having to return the TV but I cannot accept IQ problems from a top 3 company like Sony with that kind of investment. Also, Remote is simple but not great (the most used buttons at bottom rather than middle where they belong) but remotes are a minor issue. Hope this helps someone with their LCD shopping. Great Picture. TV is finally off in the morning! Auto-off feature is really nice. I'm not as green as I should be, but this set has solved my teenager falling asleep with the TV on all night. Picture is great, menu/settings are very user friendly, and only ports with an item plugged in are in the "input" rotation on the remote. Highly recommend. One weird thing about the White Glove delivery from Amazon. They showed up on time, and even phoned ahead...very nice, plus set the TV up and took the garbage. However during the setup the TV searches for channels automatically. When this seemed to be going slow, the delivery guy says "this can take awhile the first time it runs", and my wife let them leave. After performing a "search" for about 30 minutes I discovered that they had used input cables from a DVD player that was not hooked up to the satellite system. I simply plugged an HDMI cable from the dish to the TV...and whammo...200+ channels almost instantly. Everything else was great. I would make a similar purchase again with Amazon without hesitation.

Review from HomeTheaterMag.com: Sony Bravia KDL-40V5100 LCD HDTV

The Sony came in a close second in the judging. Two members of the five-judge panel voted it first overall, and two rated it second. No one really disliked it. I can't say how I might have voted had I been participating blind, but I like to think I would have placed it on top, given my partiality to serious viewing in a darkened room and the resulting need for great black levels. As I noted earlier, the Sony also won raves for its performance with the lights on--although that was a very short part of the test and not included in the scoring. Excellent TV, Auto contrast can now be turned off! First things first, THEY FIXED THE AUTO-CONTRAST! I have nothing but good things to say about this TV. Do not be fooled by the 1 star ratings. All those 1 star ratings complain about the auto contrast/brightness feature which could not be turned off, but SONY FIXED IT ALREADY in the newer units or a software update via sony.com will add the controls to turn the function off. With that biggest gripe fixed, this TV has outstanding visual clarity and the color saturation is beautiful. Black levels are excellent on this non glossy screen. You can't go wrong with a Sony and the software update shows they are listening to their customer base. No dead/stuck pixel, great viewing angles, 120hz refresh is great for sports, but in my opinion, not for movies. Excellent TV, I would buy another one of these without hesitation, superior when compared to the other brands that offer the same features. The Bravia V series lives up to the Sony name and quality standards you would expect. Deserves all 5 of the stars it's rated. Excellent TV Update May 3, 2009: My original review of the TV was negative due to a problem of dimming during dark scenes. But few days ago Sony released a software patch to correct the problem and it worked for me. Now, the auto dimming can be turned off by setting the "Adv. Contrast Enhancer" to Off. Also, even when it's turned On, it doesn't behave like it did pre- patch, it now dims gradually rather than abruptly and it doesn't dim as much as it did before. Thank you very much Sony, I'm updating my rating to 5-star. I'm very happy with the TV now that the auto dim is fixed. If you own the TV and having problems with the dimming, go to the support section of Sony's site to download the patch and the instructions on how to apply it. You will need a USB thumb drive formatted in FAT32, but if you don't have it, Sony will mail you one if you call their customer support. ---------------- Original review: Date: April 8, 2009 Rating: 2 stars When I purchased this TV few days ago, there were no reviews here since it's just been recently released into the market. I, however, looked at the reviews of the previous model (KDL-40V4100) and didn't find any serious complaints so I went ahead and purchased this TV. I regret my purchase and will explain why. This is my third LCD TV -- the others are early generations LCDs from Sharp and Sony and they are still working great, but they are no match for the picture quality of this new Sony. There are a lot of good things about this TV and I would have given it 5 stars if not for one serious flaw. The TV dims during dark scenes. And sadly it doesn't do it gradually, it happens abruptly 6 seconds after the start of a dark scene and it returns to normal lighting abruptly about 0.35 seconds after end of a dark scene. It seems to happen regardless of the source of input (I tested it with composite, and HDMI) and it happens on broadcast channels and cable and regardless of the "picture mode" and other video settings. There is no way to disable it. If you're watching a movie with lots of dark scenes, it's going to be a very annoying experience. Take this example, while watching a documentary on first gulf war, there was a lot of night vision camera scenes and the TV keeps dimming during the lengthy dark scenes and when it does that, you can barely make out any details even with Gamma set at max. The dimmer kicking in and out is annoying by itself, much less the picture quality when it dims. I contacted Sony support and they seemed clueless and recommended I initiate a repair request. I did an internet search only to discover many Bravia models suffer this problem. I initially thought I had a defective unit, but now I think it was intentionally designed like this. Very disappointed in Sony We bought the V5100 2 weeks ago. After getting it home we were a little disappointed with the picture as we didn't have HD yet, so we got the HD dish installed. Picture on HD was perfect, other channels good but not great. When watching DVD's we noticed the dimming issue, dark scenes getting darker and darker. After reading a few review sites I discovered there was a fix from Sony so I called the customer support and asked to be sent the software update. That took about a week, and the USB would not download, it went to a blue screen. So I called tech support and got a guy that was really clueless to the problem. He had me call a not so local authorized dealer which wouldn't come out, we would have to take the TV there, 40 miles away, drop it off then have to go back another day to pick up!! So, I decided to try to download the fix myself from the Sony website. After a few failures I discovered you had to format the disk to FAT32, so I did and it worked. But it hasn't fixed the dimming problem, it's still there just not quite as bad. The store we bought the TV from tried to work with us saying it might be that our DVD player is not the newest or best, but I'm not sure that's an issue. We have decided to take the Sony back and get a Samsung or Mitsubishi. It's disappointing that Sony would sell TV's knowing there is a problem, and then not tell their retailers that there is a known problem. Or at least the store is claiming they didn't know. They are willing to replace or exchange it. I'd be afraid of the same problem with another Sony. Very frustrating. Update: Went and compared the 5100 to the Samsung and did not like the Samsung as much. So asked the store to send technician to adjust, haven't heard from them. In the meantime after much research on different websites I discovered after you do the software update you have to set the Advanced Contrast Enhancer to Low or Off, I set at low. And, I set the picture setting to Standard, not Vivid, altho Vivid was brighter but maybe not better. Now it seems perfect, no shadows or shading in the dark scenes. So for now we are happy campers, hope it stays that way!

Excellent TV/DVD Combo I was looking for a replacement tv/dvd combo for our small travel trailer, and being historically a Toshiba TV fan, initially purchased a Toshiba 19LV61k, the latest model in basically the same such combo Toshiba has been producing for a number of years. I took it back immediately - great picture, but tiny speakers with volume so low that you could not hear what people were saying on screen from 3 feet away, even when you had it cranked to the max. Moreover, Toshiba provided no output for an auxiliary speaker system (other than a headphone outlet). After a lot of research, I purchased this Sharp. Unfortunately for me, Amazon did not have it at the time. The current Amazon price of $349.99 with free shipping beats what I paid ABC Warehouse by about twenty bucks (ABC is a great alternative retailer though). In any event, this combo is light as a feather, has a great picture, and ample volume. The model was introduced in January, 2009, and has all the current bells and whistles, including the option of surround sound (toggle it from the audio sub-menu; you will like it) and a coaxial audio output. So far (one month from purchase), we like the combo immensely, and would recommend it. From my research on line and examining different sets at Best Buy and other retail stores, I did not find a better alternative to this tv/dvdcombo in its size range, regardless of cost. As of April 8, 2010, still going strong and giving good service The better choice Basically, if you want a small LCD TV w/DVD built-in, you can choose from Sharp, Toshiba, LG, and some lesser names and chineese brands. Since I've had good luck with Sharp and bad luck with Toshiba in the past, I waited for this model to become available (all summer). So far I am not dissappointed. Pros: great picture, you can adjust the brightness, backlight, etc to tweak it to your delight. I like the factory settings so far. - Sound is more than adequate for this size TV - Tuner picked up every available signal with a basic, attic-mounted antennae - DVD player works very nicely - viewing angles better than I expected. Cons: Non-adjustable base ( I don't care because I have it wall-mounted in a bedroom with a nice tiltable mount) - Remote layout ( It's probably not that bad. I'm just used to Samsung's layout and I guess i'd just have to get used to this one). The actual screen size is less than 22 inches. This TV (HxW) is smaller than my 22" Samsung (kitchen - no DVD) because the bezel is thinner and screen is about 21.5" diagonally. So if you have a tight space, that could be a good thing. Really, I'm thinking this is the best 22" LCD w/DVD out there. The price is not bad and the picture/sound is as good as it gets in this class TV. A decent, swivel-arm, tiltable, wall-mount can be had for 30 bucks. Bought TV thru Video Audio Center without a hitch. Awsome TV Originally purchased for my 5th wheel camper,but I don't think it's going to make it out of my bedroom.I set it up just to check it out,and really can't say enough about it.Beautiful picture,sharp,great colors on factory setting.My biggest worry was the sound as flat panels tend to have low volume.Not this one,just fine for my applications i.e. bedroom and camper.sooo... glad I read the reviews between this one and the Toshiba I was going to get.This TV is absolutely awesome!!!

Good TV I really loved the TV but I did receive it damaged and the return process was absolutely horrible. I would definitely recommend this TV regardless of the return process because it is an awesome TV just beware that the customer service through CompUSA/Tiger Direct (which are affiliated) is absolutely horrible! Excellent TV Can't wait until the NLCS ALCS baseball series start, you talking about being glued to a TV set, this is the one.
