Professional photographer drg, gives us a ton of information about the new Sony Cybershot WX1 point-and-shoot camera in this review. The WX1 is one of Sony’s latest high-end pocket cameras and this is a great review I thought deserved some extra attention.

In terms of major factors such as build quality, performance, image quality and overall specification, there really isn’t much to choose between the major camera manufacturers. If you’re looking for a high-spec ultra compact with a 4x or 5x zoom wide-angle lens, mechanical image stabilisation, HD video recording, a 6.85cm (2.7 inch) monitor and a resolution of around 10-12 megapixels then there are plenty of models to choose from; Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, Samsung, Olympus, Pentax, Fujifilm and Casio all make cameras fitting that general description. In such a competitive market it’s hard for any one manufacturer to make its products stand out from the crowd. The usual lazy way of doing so is to bump up the megapixel count every few months, and indeed some manufacturers are still doing this despite the abundant evidence that it offers the consumer no benefit in picture quality.

Strengths:

* Low light images are excellent.
* Sweep Panorama is not just a gimmick!
* Face and Smile detection work well.
* Nice build with minor exception including access door.
* Good LCD.
* Good AF.
* Burst Mode.

Weaknesses:

Size I’m putting in the weakness column as this is another almost too small camera. The controls border on being difficult as they are all very close together.
* For what should be optimum lighting for a camera, adjustments are needed to get optimum performance, and it seems to change.
* A couple of features can get in the way including the Dynamic Range Optimization and the Intelligent mode sometimes isn’t.
* No viewfinder, but that’s common.
* I am not a fan of the Sony Memory Stick Flash, but it works.
* A little slippery with sweaty fingers or probably gloves (but I haven’t tried that).
* I don’t like where the wrist strap connect in the middle of the camera, though for a neck strap being centered it would be better than many small cameras.

The 3 star rating is based on the full price of the camera, the less than overwhelming images in all modes and that this is a potential ’slip through my fingers’ camera.

Similar Products Used:

Canon, Olympus, and Fuji P/S of various types.

If you feel that your mobile phone is not operating correctly due to defective workmanship, then you will need to contact Apple directly. It will then determine whether your mobile meets all the criteria of iPhone warranty or not. The iPhone warranty does not cover damage that is caused by damage caused by accident or liquid damage that can occur.

The ASUS K42J packs a plethora of powerful components, including a 2.26-GHz Core i5 430M CPU and Nvidia’s Optimus graphics-switching technology, in a 4.8-pound, 14-inch package. This $899 notebook turns in solid performance numbers and has some strong features, but competitors offer more bang for your buck–and look better doing it, too.

Build and Design:

The K42J has a traditional notebook design and shape similar to the previous generation ASUS K40IN. In other words, it looks like a fairly boring coffee brown notebook without much flare. The notebook features a mixture of matte black, semi-gloss brown and black and glossy brown and black plastics. All of the corners and edges are rounded to give the laptop a smoother look, and the textured touchpad and palm rests give the K42J a nice feel. The glossy screen lid features a subtle imprinted design that replicates the pattern used on the palm rests, but overall we’re talking about a very clean, simple laptop design.

The build quality of the K42JC-A1 is typical of most of the ASUS consumer-grade notebooks we’ve reviewed. The overall chassis strength is good with no specific areas of plastic flex or creaking sounds. The internal chassis frame resists pressure quite well and the screen hinges provide a good balance of resistance (not too firm and not too loose). The back of the screen lid does flex under heavy pressure, but even when significant pressure is applied to the back of the screen there are no obvious ripples or distortions on the screen.

The bottom of the notebook includes two access plates for the RAM and the hard drive. ASUS engineers obviously understand that most consumers buying a mainstream notebook like this won’t upgrade much (if anything) beyond the RAM and hard drive. Yes, we usually like to have more access to the notebook’s internals, but the majority of the people who buy this laptop probably won’t care.

Display and Sound:

The glossy 14-inch, 1366 x 768-pixel screen produced reasonably bright images and sharp colors, but viewing angles left something to be desired. In a room with a light source behind us, we saw a ton of reflections in the screen when we were sitting at even a 30-degree angle to the left or right. When watching videos, image	s washed out significantly at 45 degrees to the left or right.

The notebook was more than capable of playing back high-definition video. We effortlessly streamed a 720p episode of Fringe from Fox.com and played both a 720p and a 1080p WMV file from Microsoft’s HD Showcase without issue. However, when playing a DVD of Dark City, we noticed lots of noise in shadows and other dark areas.

One positive feature of the K42J is its bundled Splendid Utility which allows users to select different color modes, including a special Theater mode that darkens images for a movie-friendly look; it made our video clips look a bit more attractive. You can even adjust the red, green, and blue color temperatures to create your own custom color profiles. And you can assign any of the modes to hot keys for quick switching.

The K42J’s speakers are nothing to write home about. When we tried listening to both a rock tune, “My Delirium” by Ladyhawke, and a jazz standard, “Morning Dance” by Spyro Gyra, the sound wasn’t tinny, but it fell completely flat; all the instruments and vocals seemed to blend together, sounding very much like a mono clock radio. Even at maximum volume, the output wasn’t loud enough.

Keyboard and Touchpad:

The full-size keyboard on the K42J full-size keyboard features Chiclet-style keys that are responsive and provide a little extra spacing to prevent typos. The keys are large and flat and have a matte texture, which may wear over time. There is no noticeable flex unless you apply significant pressure to the keys in the middle of the board. A individual key presses are quiet with the softest possible “click-clack” noise while typing; making it nice for taking notes in a classroom or office meeting room. The keyboard lacks dedicated multimedia keys, but the arrow keys double as media keys when used with the function key.

The ELAN touchpad is a mixture of good and bad. The textured surface provides excellent traction for your fingertips but the touchpad suffers from obvious lag. This is a multi-touch touchpad with customizable gestures, but the mediocre responsiveness makes using the touchpad less than ideal. The lack of a dedicated scroll zone is also annoying. The touchpad buttons have very shallow feedback with loud clicks when you press the buttons.

Ports and Webcam:

The K42J has a reasonable collection of ports. On the right side are a USB port and an Ethernet connection. On the left are a VGA port, HDMI-out, a single audio in/out port, and two more USB ports (for a total of three). The front lip houses a 5-in-1 memory card reader.

The 0.3-megapixel webcam produced grainy, noisy images with washed out colors, both when streaming video on Skype or capturing images with ASUS’s bundled LifeFrame software. However, to the camera’s credit, it was able to pick up our face in a low-light setting even though the overall picture quality was still pretty bad (pictured).

Battery Life and Wi-Fi:

The K42J’s short battery life is its biggest weakness. Even though it has power-saving Optimus technology, the notebook lasted only 3 hours and 21 minutes on the LAPTOP Battery Test, which involves continuous web surfing over Wi-Fi. That’s 27 minutes below the category average, and over an hour shorter than the Lenovo IdeaPad Y460 (4:38) and HP Pavilion dm4 (4:56).

The K42J’s Atheros AR9285 802.11n wireless card provided strong transfer rates of 36.4 Mbps and 23.5 Mbps at distances of 15 and 50 feet from the router. The 15-foot score was about on par with the IdeaPad Y460 (35.5 Mbps) and the Toshiba Satellite E205 (36.2 Mbps), just slightly behind the HP Pavilion dm4 (39.4 Mbps), and way ahead of the Dell Inspiron 14R (21.6 Mbps). The 50-foot score was slightly better than all its direct competitors, including the E205 (20.5 Mbps), IdeaPad Y460 (19.8 Mbps), the Pavilion dm4 (19.7 Mbps), and the Inspiron 14R (16.4 Mbps).

The HTC Desire is a famous Android device and it is a smartphone. The Wildfire is also known as the HTC Desire Mini as it is down graded in its size, down clocked and is of lower price when compared to the HTC Desire. Though the Wildfire is a lower version of the Desire, it is not as attractive as the Desire. It has good connectivity options but the CPU and the display makes it unattractive.
