I think if you looked inside Gary Busey’s head, you’d find another Gary Busey head. And it would be like those Russian matryoshka dolls where you’d keep finding another smaller Gary Busey head until you got to the smallest head, and when you opened that one, you’d find a jelly bean.

day 5 and 6

not one cigarette
in 6 days

3 in the morning

I reach into the
the cauldron
that sits on this neck
and stir
a tired brain
for a poem

there is lukewarm broth
and bits of memory
of a kid
I suddenly recall
from high school
who had a feathered
haircut
freckles
wore lots of flannels
chewed tobacco,
he hunted and he
hated black people

he sat next to me
in biology

I just barely remember
the teacher
giving me advice
about training a puppy
because I had gotten one that year
a dog that is still alive
and lives with my parents
old with arthritis
she limps and wags a crooked tail
then she was small
very small
and pissed everywhere

to think
at the time
that was a big part of
my world
5 days a week
for about a year
that teacher and that kid next to me
now
its reduced to
about five minutes
worth of images
now it is like an old rug

I see some shapes
but the edges become
strands loose
long loose strands
some have
weaved into the
the many different rugs
along the way
like patchwork

I move
the dog moves

I stand here now
it’s hard to believe I was not always here
doesn’t it seem that way?

when you change and age?
doesn’t it seem
like you were here already
waiting for you?

reasons to watch Bulletproof with Gary Busey

Gary Busey calls people Butthorn at least 4 different times in Bulletproof. The villains are a collection of Mexican, Cuban, Arabic Muslims that are also working with Russian Communists. No lie. At one point someone asks if he is the one they call Bulletproof, he says, "Yeah, who are you, Butthorn?" McBain has two lovers in the movie, both amazingly hot. He also plays saxophone! and there is scene with him laying on his bed with his knee propped up and his saxophone laying across his chest like it's his lover. He also seduces a woman on the beach by playing saxophone.

He has a violent and scarred past that involves a dead partner and a tragic love affair.

There are lines like this said after sex, "You may be Bulletproof... but you are not love proof."

He removes bullets from his chest with a small pair of scissors and collects them in a mason jar under his sink. Later he says he has 39 bullets collected.

He says, "Yeah!" and "Whew!" after killing people and blowing stuff up.

McBain slaughters many people. He seems capable of standing in front of armies of Mexicans with machine guns firing at him, and he not only doesn't get hit, but is skilled enough to blow them away with just a pistol. He throws a machete at one guy and it impales through his chest.

He slides a large glass ashtray across a table and into a guy's nuts who is standing on the other end.

He is on a mission called: "Thunder Blast" that involves a Tank that is also a bomb. The code word between American agents to signify if they are part of "Thunder Blast" is also "Thunder Blast" The Thunder Blast tank has 1980 video game type screens on the inside that make Pac Man type noises. It also has a coffee maker that comes out of the wall and it looks like someone is just on the other side pushing it through.

There is at least 45 minutes of straight Machine gun sound effects.

At the end he escorts his love out of Mexico by following her with the Thunder Blast tank. She is in a little convertible, and the long thick gun to the tank hovers over her little car, symbolizing McBain's large ape like penis.

The Guy Who Got All Crazy

My friend Bart got me into the poetry scene and a few years ago he published a chap of my poetry. It is titled "The Guy Who Got All Crazy". It's full of dark and gross poems with mostly a humorous tone I guess. Plus lots of sloppy little sketchs by me. I like this chap very much and I still have copies left. American Nightmare

I watched this film a few years ago on the Independent Film Channel. It was called American Nightmare. I really loved it and later it helped me pass a history course I was taking in college. I based a paper around it. It covers many of the great horror films of the late 60s into the 70s and merges them with the real political, social tensions and fears of that time. I thought it was brilliant and showed insight into the horror genre beyond simple gore and shock value. Anyway I found the whole thing loaded up on you tube, and wanted to post it here. Even if you do not like horror films like I do (especially from this time period) you may find it interesting. A clip is posted below and here is a link (click here) where you can access all the parts. However, I should warn that there is very disturbing imagery shown in old news footage. So don't bother if you are easily offended but such things.

My book is out and available here, and at Amazon. I'm a very happy about this, and wanted to thank Didi Menendez for asking me to put this collection together. The poems included cover about a two year span of time or more. When I was writing these poems I rarely thought about being published, but certainly hoped they would have a home some day. It's full of memories, fantasies, thoughts, and much of it was fueled by sleepless nights and the love of writing.
