The speaking tonight was fantastic, as well as the music; Crowder's set was probably my favorite... but that is a side note.

The speaking dealt with the purpose of the Bible, and its intention in our lives. Considering the idea that the Bible is not about us, he illustrated our lives as a match, to be joined with an everlasting fire.

More on this tomorrow... It is good to have a break, and it is good to be with people who know how to hold intelligent conversations.

Tonight, for instance, I have had conversations covering topics such as theology's most pressing and unanswerable questions (which, in turn, built my faith to be even stronger), cultural differences between the North and the South (which became painfully obvious with the un-tactfully loud individuals of our group making fools of themselves), and a script to be played out over the next few days.

It will involve three men in search of the best Chinese restaurant in all of the North. Which will be the minor focus of the show...

Anyway, I sit in a hotel room in New Jersey, and I have never been this far north in my life.

I recently got this hat.

It makes me feel somewhat important, though it smashes right away at my hair each and every moment of the day.

And this is what college is like, obviously. I love how simple life is.

Finished watching the movie Once today. If you ever have a chance to watch it, it is quite real-to-life. Apparently "Falling Slowly," a song written by Glen Hansard (lead singer for The Frames), was nominated for an Oscar last night. Who knew... That movie came out in 2006. Anyhow, it is quite fantastic. All musicians who are not stuck on Dream Theatre (or anything equally... shallow) would enjoy it.

In other news, I will be going to New York for the first time ever in less than a week from now. It's quite an exciting experience, however, I must admit that I am afraid of being disappointed.

Anyway, nobody reads this thing.

I am really busy.

I tried cutting and pasting my schedule, but it didn't work. I just wanted to post another today. This fine January day.

So I am considering very seriously a transfer to MTSU in the fall of 2009. Their RIM degree, which is basically the recording industry degree, is so very intriguing, with beautiful studios and such. Here is the main page... and here are the studios they house... pretty intense stuff. Very well done... attractive.

Now let's hope money falls out of the sky again.

I am also looking into writing a book from the complete beginning... from no influence. As if I had never once walked into a church or heard the name of God. Kind of an outer-body experience, in a way. Exciting to think about the possibilities. I have always wanted to write a book that had multiple meanings and depths. One that could be read for entertainment, speculation, and study, as well as in an effort to promote self bettering...

Yep.

Also, in my defense, it is 3:40 AM...

Sitting in the Dorm

So I have gained the freshmen 15. So I gotta lose the freshmen 30.

Other things that have happened recently:
Christmas. It was wonderful, but some things reminded me of old stuff and blaaah
I have began to provide people with fair warning when I meet them. And that makes me immediately look like "that guy."

I'm considering changing my major. But that's a long ways from happening. Instead of doing the music business degree (which is more like a music degree with a business minor) and the advertising major, I am thinking about dropping the music down to a music minor. I also found out that a jazz minor will be added as a possibility next semester.

This whole living alone thing is wonderful from about 8 AM til about 11 PM... then it sucks.

Tomorrow I plan to find out if I have been accepted to ASCAP as a publisher.

I tend to sleep when Scrubs comes onto my computer screen (which is my choice). It really is good sleep, but it makes me feel unproductive. Also, it's a good show, and I know I am behind on that. That's kind of my intentions when I put it on the screen, but I end up falling asleep, which is more a reflection on my lack of sleep (refer to two paragraphs up).

Gotta go write a paper.

Technorati Tags: college, Freshman, freshmen, Jonathan Cutrell, roommate, scrubs

Christmas Eve feelings

Quick shout.

Merry Christmas Eve to you all!

I know that everyone has finished shopping and such. Yes, of course, by the government of the United States, but that is not who we are declaring a revolution over. We are governed not by the institution of the Church itself, because it is your choice which church you attend. No, the one and only driving, governing force that is ever-present in every aspect of our lives is Ourselves. Yes, we are the what we must overthrow. We need a thorough replacement of this Human flesh with something more than human. Romans 8:13-14 tells us:

So don't you see that we don't owe this old do-it-yourself life one red cent. There's nothing in it for us, nothing at all. The best thing to do is give it a decent burial and get on with your new life. God's Spirit beckons. There are things to do and places to go!

In other words, put your flesh down in exchange for something higher, your "new life".

This is, of course not an easy task. We will always be human. We will never be without temptation; Jesus even told the disciples so. ("He said to his disciples, 'Hard trials and temptations are bound to come...'" - Luke 17:1) So what is the point? How is it possible to die to the flesh if you will always be human?

For clarification, it is NOT literal suicide. It is simply dying, constantly, to your own desires, in exchange for what he would choose for you to do. The best answer is, once again, in Jesus' words. Pray.

Matthew 26:41 says this:
"Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak."

Oh, and by the way, even when you are tempted, God PROMISES there is always a way out.

1 Corinthians 10:13 says:

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

So we can, daily, choose to die to our fleshly desires. It is our responsibility to overthrow this establishment of such despicable flesh in exchange for holiness by him.

That's all for now. More tomorrow...
