The closing of everything.
Thank you for the three years, but I probably won't be stepping in there anymore, unless there is an explicit invitation. Even so, I would be a guest there.

The phrase, "It's the company that matters." is aptly used in this case. The clubroom is a physical manifestation of the times we enjoyed there, and the remnants of memories still remain. But it is all to the new batch of MCs to create their new memories, and not for us to 'chap in' anymore.

Sitting in the bus today, taking in the scenery around me, it occurred to me that it is my campus no longer. I could lay claim to being one of the former students, but there are countless of people who are like me, and moved on.

Things on earth do not last forever, and because of this; fragile. It is why humans cling on desperately, refusing to let go even though they know that there are things that are never theirs, even though they know that one day, they would invariably lose the things that they cherish most. But still, even if they manage to hold on a day longer, they will still gladly do it.

Once, I thought that I would not be able to let go. Now, I think that no matter what it is, I just have to live with this life that I have, until I lay rested in a coffin. Sometimes, just sometimes, I wish that I am no longer in this world; this world that is surrounded with so much unhappiness and unfairness. This might be a training ground, but for whoever who has created this world, he has a sick mind.

一场惊喜一场空。

结果我们还是没得去韩国。

对这间公司有点失望。它所答应的大多数都没做到，而一直都在找借口。

我觉得呆久了，还真的会呆掉。

The Demon's Lexicon is the first book of the series and from the start, the two brothers, Alan and Nick, are escaping from the magicians who wanted to hunt down their mother, which led them to moving house every few months. This time round, there is a difference; the attack is witnessed by two other people, Mae and Jamie.
They were hoping that the two brothers would be able to help them with their trouble, and they all landed in deep shit. And they went trying to crawl out from the pile of shit that they dug into.

The best parts of the plot is that they subtly dropped hints throughout the story and wove them altogether at the end. We know that Nick can't tell lies and he doesn't feel much for people, but he does feel for his brother, at least.

I love the way how the ending contradicts the beginning, as it shows that demons can have feelings too; albeit a strange way of showing it. The idea of demons having emotions is weird at the least but original, after the whole book tried to brainwash the reader into thinking that demons are the "bad guys" trying to leech off humans.

I am so waiting for the last book of the series to be out.

Book Review: Forbidden (The Demon's Trapper #2) by Jana Oliver

The second book in the series. My brother and I have been hunting down this book since Oct, and I finally found it online. OMG.

I was captivated by the first book, and now the second. And I can't wait for the third one to be released. Forbidden is a Urban Fantasy (UF) book, and having demons in the city is commonplace. Schools are held anywhere and everywhere, but with regularity. It actually sounds like the future world that we would probably be facing, especially with the budget cuts in the cities.

Riley is the only female trapper in the Trapper society, and she has a huge score to settle with the necromancers as she thought that they have forcibly taken her dad to be a deader. It ends up that someone else was behind the scenes, which rounded up the plot considerably. In this book, Riley's relationships with guys took a turn for the worse. All the three guys, in fact. It is a little unsettling that she managed to get rid of the thoughts of Simon so quickly and jumped into sex with another guy, who turned out to be another bad guy. Now, it seems to be that all the bad guys get the deal, while the good guys stand at the sideline.

The book is filled with different perspectives from different people, and it is a very interesting read. The twist at the end was a little unexpected, but if you read the first part carefully, you would have expected the twist.
The relationship between Beck and Riley is interesting, as they shuttled back and forth between roles. Frankly, I was rooting for Riley and Ori, even though I have the feeling that Beck and Riley would end up together in the end, but I didn't expect Ori and Riley's relationship to move that fast. Peter also played a more important role than in Book 1, as he was released from the clutches of The Warden.

I would rate this as 9/10, because of the interesting plot =D

think hard

When it comes to little little things, I like the way he is so concerned.

HE MUST RELY ON HIS TALENTS IN THE BEDROOM...

Anthony Hamilton cannot help it. The way he looks, the way he lives, his past-it all conspires to make him a man men fear, women desire. His name fills gossip circles in a seemingly endless, lurid drama. But he's never forgotten the only woman he's ever truly wanted-yet could never have.

TO MAKE HER FALL IN LOVE.

Celia Reece knew Anthony well before he forged his scandalous reputation. The young man she remembers spoke kindly to her, made her laugh, and his devilish good looks always quickened her pulse. But Celia's mother had other designs-designs that didn't include marriage to Anthony. Now, Celia is widowed, and her mother is intent on finding her a new husband. Refusing to let any obstacle stand in his path this time, Anthony sets out to win Celia's heart by using the same skills that made him London's most irresistible rake...

The first time I set my eyes on this book, I thought that it would be another normal historical romance book, where the rakes are reformed after they fell in love with the girl. I was wrong.

Anthony cannot even be considered a rake, and it was only his reputation which led him to his downfall. He loved Celia even before she married and it was not just because of her money. Of course, there are the usual obstacles that hindered him, like the disapproval from Celia's mother and such.

There are a few funny scenes that made me laughed out loud.

- Celia insisting on not having a marriage even after everyone saw her on Anthony (literally)

- The moments where they met coincidentally (How many times must they meet out in the garden?)

The whole plot makes me ponder about the existence of love; whether someone could have jumped into the throes of love and survive intact. Marriage with the right person, right personality is the key, but without the perfect fit, how could one be able to cope with the loveless marriage that will invariably drain all the energy and life out of him?

The subplot is a little weird and seems rushed to me. And Anthony is someone who earns his keep, which probably irritated Celia's mother since gentlemen are not supposed to engage in trade. (And Anthony invests money which are gotten from ladies o.O) and he wins cards. This is truly a creative trade.

I like the part where Anthony refuses his grandfather's legacy. It proves that he does not need his grandfather at all, even though in the end, it hinted at him accepting it. A man to my liking.

Score: 6/10

Book Review: Touch of Frost by Jennifer Estep

Like always, I didn't realise that it is a start to a series until I googled it.

I was captivated by the interesting combination => boarding school + magic.
There are few books which have such plots, and I'm a sucker for them. In addition, there are Vikings and all the Greek mythology references throughout the book, and who could resist them?
So, I picked up the book and brought it home to read.

First, I didn't have much common sense when it comes to plots. I like realistic ones as well as unrealistic ones, and this book falls under the unrealistic category. i mean, magic and common sense doesn't match right? I kind of assume that the target audience for the book is maybe like 12-ish, since the phrasings used are simple, and easy to understand. I'm glad because I don't have to read between the lines to catch the meanings (lazy me)

The story started with Gwen, the "Gypsy girl" being an outsider in her elite school, and it talks about how she is using her gift to earn pocket money. It is a clique start (minus point) but when it moves to the part where there are spartans and Vikings in the same school, I was hooked. (Really hope that it will come out as a movie so that I can ogle at those hot bodies)

The whole book was about Gwen trying to help Jasmine (some girl that she found dead in the library) and it ended up horribly because Jasmine is one of the evil ones who is trying to bring back chaos.Of course, the friendship that she had formed with the Valkyrie helped her in the quest, and it all ended nicely with her getting hooked with a dangerous and handsome Spartan guy.

The awkwardness of the romance is quite cute, but anyone above the age of 17 probably would feel that it is an immature type of romance/hook-up or whatever. But I like.

Score: 7/10

Review: Crave by Melinda Metz & Laura J. Burns

It's a reverse vampire book. I was caught by its synopsis, since I have this fetish for blood and it hits the mark.

The story is about this girl, Shay, who is always the 'Sick Girl' in school. She even terms herself as the 'Sick Girl' which is so depressing but true. It's a realistic portrayal of a sick girl in school wanting to be normal but that is where all the realistic parts end.

Here comes the interesting part. Her stepfather is a doctor who vows to find a cure for her, giving up his initial research on leukemia to concentrate all his attention on her. It's a little freaky if you think about it. A guy marrying the mother of his patient so that he can better focus on her? That aside, Shay thinks that he is a good stepfather and she only had good words for him, that is, until she discovers his secret.

She has been undergoing blood transfusion regularly; albeit a bit more frequently after she started on an alternative blood transfusion treatment which makes her hallucinate and have weird dreams about this guy Gabriel.

Turns out that the Gabriel guy is real and he is a vampire and the blood that she had been getting recently are from him. See, that's all the bloody stuff are. She later realised that her dad and Gabriel had known each other, and things totally changed from there.

One thing not so good about the story is that towards the end, it progresses a little too fast and it is mind-torturing. If the pace was a little slower, I would have enjoyed it more, but there is something good that comes out of it - the cliffhanger for the 2nd book. I must say that the author has really done a good job if she really wants the reader to wait for the next book, since she got me hooked.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://asokagal.blogspot.com/2011/10/review-crave-by-melinda-metz-laura-j.html' title='Review: Crave by Melinda Metz & Laura J.
Okay, I admit it. I have not read the first book yet, since I unknowingly borrowed the book from the library without checking it out first. But the second book is awesomely interesting for me to read past the first few pages even without any prior background to the book.

The point of view by Mae is refreshing, as her emotions cloud the reader, and we, the readers, actually feel her emotions instead of being some faceless readers lurking in the background. Of course, even without reading the 1st book, we know that she loves Nick, even though he is a demon, without any feelings, and the best part which stunned her was Nick telling her that she is an idiot if she chooses anyone over his brother, Alan.

Of course, things that never that simple, especially in a YA Fiction book. Mae's brother is a gay, and she is occupied with another guy (no, not Alan, not Nick) but someone who is a magician, only that Mae didn't know it at that point in time.

The book talks about betrayal, siblings love, parental love and humanity.

Nick is not a human, and even though he wishes to learn more about humans and their feelings, (to please his brother), he tends to make mistakes and destroys his brother's heart in the process. But, as the book progresses, we see that Nick indeed do have a human heart, because of his father's love towards him, no matter how reluctant it was given in the first place. Maybe Nick is just incapable of expressing his emotions, but that does not mean that he doesn't have one. We saw that as clear as day when he begged his brother not to leave him, even if it means that his powers have to be stripped off.

Of course, Alan is another weird human. He is able to show love for a baby who has scary eyes, and barred his door against his dad to protect someone whom he thought is his brother. His tender loving care for his brother is not coincidental, as we saw that he volunteered to transfer the mark from the little toddler to himself despite knowing that he will be in greater danger. However, his love for Mae does not stop him from lying to her, and when Mae knows the truth in the end, she recognised his stand and did not fault him for it even though he has broken her heart in the process.

Jamie, in this book, he was shoved roughly into the background. Even though he was part of the gang, he is always hiding behind something, with no character of his own. I'm hoping that in the last book, he would be made of sterner stuff since it actually portrayed an uncharacteristic side of him when he volunteered to go over to the Magician's circle as a spy. he still has hope, yet.

Ranks as one of my favs of the year =)

23rd birthday

Happy Birthday, Asae!
Sorry I wasn't able to celebrate with you =(
But we will make it up tonight =D

jac, dun be sad abt the birthday wishes! at least i rmb-ed =D

Celebrated with my family with the usual dinner at the usual coffeeshop, with the addition of crabs on Sat. At my mum's insistence. My dad and I were commenting that it seems to be celebrating her birthday rather than my birthday, but since it made her happy to have her crabs, I don't really mind.

My brother's presence is enough to make me hyper, even though I have been popping the pills since Friday night. It always start with a sore throat. Super sianz. And made me feel drowsy and weak at the same time.

I'm glad that I decided to drop all common sense and go for the makan-thon. We got free USS tickets! It was really unexpected, since we were only a little joking about getting the tickets and having a memorable time at USS, but it really came true! All thanks to Val. I think she was really familiar with all the food places.

And Yuxi got me a birthday present! Thanks =D
I was really surprised cuz I didn't expect it at all! Really made my day (even though I insisted that I don't need any presents - It is after all, a normal day, and I feel bad for making people pay for the present) No idea how to react to it too >.<

I didn't even realised that I changed my fb settings.
For me, it doesn't really matter if anybody remembers my birthday. Seriously, I forget at times too.
Too much attachment is bad, and I'm really trying to follow the "no desires" path.

Random musings yet again

This is totally random but I still think that Shu Shu is a good catch.
Friday was a recharge-day, and I ended up sleeping early since there was no tuition.

Sat was hell. Went back to NUS early in the morning, and saw SW on the bus. We were heading in the same direction to Utown. MJ, YX and I were supposed to be mugging in school but ended up with Yuxi only. Made a lot of progress in the morning, and then small small progress in the afternoon.

Then met up with DSS, MJ, and Juanna at Taka in the evening. Makan at Cuppage Plaza, Desserts at Hagen-Daz and then drinking at some Lebanese cuisine place.

I must admit that DSS's thinking really intrigued me a lot. If only there are not a lot of restrictions and concerns...

But but, I must disagree with him about his thoughts about girls in general. I think that even if they have feelings, they would keep it inside their heart and not let it out. No matter the consequences. It is just like the traffic light game where they would say that they are amber even if they are green.

Sun was a beach (bitch). Woke up half-awake and went to play volleyball. Seriously, I suck at it. Cui max. I was probably the lousiest player there and frankly, that was the first time that I have stepped into a beach volleyball ground. Black and blue after the whole thing.
Called Jeremy down for lunch and we went to this sunset place where there are ice-cream. With Dixon and Kenny.

Den I was supposed to go to the National Library with my bro but I fell ASLP! T.T
How can I do that?!!! I was so pissed with myself can. My bro leh!!! =DD
He is so so so damn cute =) OMG OMG
I miss him so muchh when he's not around =(
okay, enough of the OMG-ing

Anw,
I don't need the concern,
I don't want it.
It's the passion,
and the feelings that counts for everything.
That moment,
when you feel that you're in heaven,
flying in the skies,
all reality is lost.
Only when it came crashing down,
then reality comes upon you like a bucket of water,
shocking the hell outta you.

I want to keep that feeling,
but it always eludes me.

mindless thinking

Thoughts that come straight into my brain, and making me feel emotional.
Things that you do that stirs my heart.

Sometimes, looking back at the path that I walked, I wondered if everything is all meaningless. I am a pessimist.
Of course, Steve Jobs had achieved what he has achieved, which is why he is able to say that everything that he did was meaningful. But how many of the dropouts actually managed to be as successful as him? This was or is the American Dream.

Everyone has dreams. Everyone can dream. But when reality comes knocking on your door, are you able to resist it? All the chains that are tied around you, making you unable to move forward. It is like you're in a jail cell. You can see your freedom. And the door is even open for you to take the step out. But, there are chains tied around your ankles, forcing you to stop just before the door. You see your freedom. You can even smell it. But there is no way you can touch it.

oh wells.

P.S, Val, if you're still reading my blog...
If you are referring to the same incident, I think that it is best for you 2 to work it out. It is not that no one cares. I think people do care. But the main point is that nobody can step in and help you out, because the problem is not ours, and it is yours to solve it. Having third parties in the whole thing will just complicate matters. If you're not referring to that particular incident, then just treat this as all mindless ramblings.

dying...

I am so shagged that I can't see straight. A bit run-down, but well-maintained.
There are gardens, and people are able to have picnics in the grounds.
(hope to have stables and horses too)

Inside the castle, there are a few guest rooms which people can stay for a price.
There are also castle tours for those who do not want to pay a premium price to stay in the rooms.
Weddings can also be catered for those who want a taste of a wedding in the castle.

But, the best part of it is that the castle will be untouched by time, where restorations will be done, and with all the original furnishings intact.

I wonder how much would it costs?

Egs. http://www.viviun.com/AD-167536/

This is so do-able
Chatted a little since we both got nothing to do. I guess we are both apprehensive about the company, even though the money is ok.

Talked about how we started learning Japanese, which I had no answer to, since I was hooked on Jpop after I learnt Japanese instead of the other way round. I wasn't even reading much of the mangas when I started learning Japanese.

And he asked why I didn't take up Japanese in uni. Hmm, good question. I guess it wasn't fated. And the idea of continuing Japanese wasn't that appealing after all. Seriously, working at Jurong Port and hanging out with Siang Siang led me to not feel like mugging for Japanese, or anything for that matter. It seems like everything was not so important compared to my own feelings. I suck.

Now, I have no freaking idea what I want. Mugging for it isn't as fun since it is purely a monetary motivation. And I am no longer a Jpop fan. Stopped being one a long time ago. Even watching dramas is a little tedious now. And movies too. I totally have no idea what I want. And slacking isn't an option.

The only thing I enjoy now, and do it often is of solitary nature. No communications and stuff. Alone. The feeling is quite shiok but after the long hours, it is damn tiring =( But nice anyway.

down the memory lane

It's surprising how much memory is built around things unnoticed at the time. ~Barbara Kingsolver, Animal Dreams
But I think this is for the best. Plugging the little leaks here and there; stopping the love, hate and whatever mixture that are in there. I needed time, and I had it. No doubt some of it are my causing. I know I drifted out, because I can't bear to be the one who stayed the longest and pinned for all the lost memories.

1st mc of the year and Malacca trip

Title says it all. I just spent the bulk of the day sleeping and reading the books that I borrowed from the library. Not bad a day.

Went over to Malacca last weekend with Asae's induction peeps. To be frank, I was expecting them to be so accommodating about it. Or maybe it's just me, cuz I was thinking more along the line of them going their own way and me doing my own stuff. (Main stuff was to erm, massage and prob play arcade and watch movie?)

But we ended up sticking together and doing quite a bunch of stuff (with some subtle hints of sian-ness from some of the peeps) But all in all, it was quite alright.

We actually took the bus to Melaka bas sentral, and then from there took a cab down to the apt that we were staying in. The best part about it is that it is big enough for a lot of people. I would think that it more than rival the place that we got in Penang. Con is that there is only one key and we have too many people to only hold one key.

We ended up at the usual haunts; the shopping mall, jonker street and the chicken rice stall

This time round, I really navigated around the area with a lot more ease than I did the previous times, probably cuz I have been there so many times.

Highlights have already been pinpointed out by Asae in her blog, so I shan't do it.

Today is the start of psle, and may my tuition kids score well for it.

I still have not decided whether I should continue on for Lennard after he enters sec 1 or should I just bade farewell after this session of tuition. I will really miss him. He is my first tuition kid, and it has been what? 3 years since I have taught him. 3 years may be short for some, but to me, weekly sessions of tuition has really bonded us. And for p6, it has really been a twice a week thing. I admit that it is very tiring at times, but it is also very fulfilling and interesting to teach him.

a little bit of insight

I kinda like the cigarette smell that lingers on after someone has smoked. Met up with Von in Tampines except that she tua me. She only came and met me at the mrt station after I have finished shopping at like 7pm. Best right? I ended work at 5.30pm leh.

We then took the train to cityhall and met up with andy. I swear it is super funny seeing how siblings act like couples fighting. (No offense) but it is like a comedy.

Sushi Express was good. Okay, I wouldn't say that it is very cheap, since some of the stuff there are a tad too expensive IMO but I think there some of the dishes are worth the price like the sashimi and the raw fish sushi. Others like corn salad or tamago sushi could have been cheaper but they are all the same price so we should just get more of those which are expensive! (Typical singaporean mentality)
But the bad thing is that Von doesn't eat raw stuff, according to her.

We ate 49 plates altogether, which comes up to around $25 each, and the price led to Andy and Asae quarreling about money again. Haha.

Then we actually wanted to eat ice-cream but by the time we walked to the ice-cream shop, it was already closed. So we decided to walk to bugis instead. Then, I got hooked by the arcade and we ended up playing in the arcade instead of eating desserts or ice-cream, which is good, because I am trying to lose weight!

one of the last few times kamoshirenai

I'm back in school on a sunday, trying to finish up Go Tenba Cheerleader 25. 10 more pages to go but am being rushed by my mum to go back for dinner. Doubt I would be able to finish it by tonight though =((

But it is probably going to be one of the last times unless there is no change in the locks and no one is here.
I guess there is a part of me which refused to give up this space, since it has given me so much memories; good or bad.

One more month, or less than it, I officially have no links with NUS anymore. Not sure whether if it is a good or bad thing. I really admire those people who can just move on without looking backwards. Or maybe I'm just living my life while walking backwards all the time.
