President Buhari departs to UK on medical trip

President Muhammadu Buhari departed Abuja on Tuesday evening for London, to keep an appointment with his doctor.

He would spend four days and return on Saturday, May 12th.

It was his third medical vacation in the United Kingdom, since January 2017.

Buhari was accompanied to the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, by some top government officials and presidential aides.

The President’s security officials and a few close aides accompanied him on the trip.

The presidential aircraft marked 5N-FGW which conveyed the President left the airport at about 3.20pm.

Those who saw the President off to the airport included his Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari; the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Alhaji Muhammad Bello, and the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, had in a statement on Monday, announced that Buhari would on Tuesday embark on a four-day medical trip to the UK.

Shehu had said the President would return to the country on Saturday.

The statement read, “President Muhammadu Buhari will tommorrow (Tuesday) undertake a four-day trip to the United Kingdom.

“In the course of the technical stop-over for aircraft maintenance in London on his way back from Washington last week, the President had a meeting with his doctor.

“The doctor requested the President to return for a meeting which he agreed to do.

“President Buhari will return on Saturday, May 12th.

Buhari had on many occasions travelled abroad for medical reasons. He returned to the country on March 10, 2017, after a 49-day medical sojourn, saying he had never been that sick in his life.

He then gave an indication that he would return to London for further checkup.

Buhari, on May 7, 2017, travelled back to London for medical consultation only to return to the country on August 19, 2017.

Death toll rises as bomb explodes in a Mosque at Adamawa

At least twenty-seven persons died and 56 were injured in Mubi, Adamawa State, after a mosque and market were bombed.

Chairman of Mubi North Local Government Musa Bello said the explosions occurred about 1.30 pm on Tuesday.

Executive Secretary of Adamawa State Emergency Agency (ADSEMA) Haruna Furo confirmed the blast.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy Ahmad Sajoh said: “While condemning the satanic, cowardly and dastardly act, Governor Mohammed Bindow has ordered the immediate provision of medical supplies and mobilisation of medical officers to the general hospital in Mubi.

“In addition, the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) has been ordered to supply food and non-food items to the hospital to cater for victims and their relations.”

The statement urged people to donate blood and be more vigilant, reiterating the government’s commitment to protect life and property.

A resident, simply identified as Buba, said the two explosions occurred in a mosque and a second-hand clothes market.

“The blasts occurred at the Gwonjo market and a mosque about 20 metres away,” Buba said.

No group claimed responsibility for the blast last night.

However, French news agency, AFP, reported that 60 people might have died.

A source at Federal Medical Centre in Yola said 37 bodies were received.

A rescue worker said he counted 42 dead and 68 injured.

“These I saw with my eyes. We were counting as they were being taken,” said Sani Kakale.

Two locals, who were at the funeral, said the death toll was higher, and could rise.

“I was part of the burial of 68 people and before I left the cemetary, more bodies were brought in.

“I think this is the worst attack Mubi has ever witnessed. The human loss is unimaginable,” Muhammad Hamidu said.

Abdullahi Labaran added: “We left 73 freshly dug graves where each victim was buried. There are still unclaimed bodies in the hospital.”

In an interview with Toolz of Beat FM on Friday, she revealed that she has not spoken with Collins since she came back to Nigeria.

Nina also said she was attracted to eventual winner, Miracle, because things happened naturally between them.

“When I got into the house, Miracle and I bonded very well. Everything happened naturally,” she said.

When Nina revealed that she had dated Collins for a year, Toolz asked if she had reached out to him.

Boko Haram: NEMA evacuates 9 bodies after bloody attacks in Maiduguri

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has completed the evacuation of corpses to the mortuary after the Boko Haram attack which was repelled last night by the Nigerian troops in Maiduguri, Borno State.

At least five bodies of Boko Haram suicide bombers have been identified and evacuated, while four other corpses of residents have been deposited at the mortuary.

Confirming the development to newsmen, the Zonal Coordinator of NEMA North-East, Mr. Bashir Garga said the evacuation exercise was conducted in collaboration with other agencies in the state.

He said that agency has moved its ambulances to strategic positions to attend to any emergency.

He further said that NEMA rescuers are going round to the vicinity of the attacks to ensure that no corpses is left unattended to.

Meanwhile, the Borno State Police Spokesperson DSP Edet Okon said that the Boko Haram Terrorists launched the surprise attack at Jidari Polo area of Maiduguri near the Federal High court.

The statement also said “The terrorists fired sporadically and detonated improvise explosive devices (IEDs).

“The Borno State Police Command promptly deployed combat teams of SARS, PMF and EOD to support the Military and the Divisional Police Officer of GRA division who were already at the scene.

“The insurgents were successfully repelled by the security forces after fierce gun battle with profuse tear smoke application.

“There was no casualty on the side of the police apart from two SARS personnel that were injured in the battle.

“A police Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) was also damaged by IED explosions.”

However, normalcy has since been restored in the area, while residents have been urged to always promptly report suspicious persons and activities to the security agencies for prompt action.

While it is speculated that they may have come and left before Nyong’O shared the photo, findings revealed that the actresses may have come into the country to research on an upcoming project.

Backing up the claim that they have left the country, Gurira during an interview on The Ellen Show spoke about her trip to Nigeria.

She said: “I was researching. I’m a writer and I was researching something that I’m adapting into a miniseries. The book by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie called ‘Americanah’.”
About getting recognized when she was in Nigeria, she said: “I was in this very small town in a small hotel, and I was just walking across the breakfast room to get a cup of tea.

Then, this man, he was probably around 60 or so, looked up and went, ‘GENERAL’. That was surprising.”

Buhari assures Benue residents killings will end soon, urges them not to revenge

President Mohammadu Buhari has advised the people of Benue State against playing into the hands of those he described as enemies of the state.

He said the continuing acts of mass killings and destruction in parts of the country and Benue State in particular was an evil design by enemies of peace to disunite the country.

The president, who decried the situation where a brother resorts to killing his brother, “a neighbor killing a neighbor and a community attacking and killing members of another community,” warned citizens against playing into the hands of the enemies.

In a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu last night, President Buhari said those behind the Church attack that left 18 people dead, including two Priests, did not mean well for Nigeria and peaceful coexistence.

The President also noted that the revenge attacks that followed in which 11 members of the Hausa communities were killed are part of the agenda of the bandits and their sponsors to turn Nigerians against one another, adding “we must resist all temptation to fall into this laid out plan.”

He said he was greatly pained by these persistent violence and the total disregard for the sanctity of life by those he called “hideously evil people who have no iota of respect for humanity, decency and civilization.”

President Buhari vowed that the government will not rest on its oars in its determination to fish out the murderers and their clandestine sponsors.

He equally assured Nigerians that measures being put in place by the government will, sooner than later, bring to an end, these extremely brutal and wanton killings.

The Presidency has disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Nigeria on Saturday, 28th April 2018, on an official working visit to the United States of America, on the invitation of President Donald Trump.

It was earlier reported that President Donald Trump will host his Nigerian counterpart, Buhari in Washington on April 30 and that the meeting will focus on “fighting terrorism” and “promoting economic growth.”

President Buhari will have bilateral meeting with President Trump and a working lunch on Monday 30 April 2018.

“The meeting is to discuss ways to enhance the strategic partnership between the two countries and to advance shared priorities, such as: promoting economic growth, fighting terrorism and other threats to peace and security.

“The meeting will further deepen the US-Nigeria relationship as the United States considers Nigeria’s economic growth, security and leadership in Africa to be critical aspects of their strategic partnership.

“Later in the day, President Buhari will meet with a group of business persons in agriculture and agro-processing, dairy and animal husbandry.

“Ahead of the visit by President Buhari, meetings have been scheduled on 26th and 27th April, 2018, between senior Nigerian Government officials and executives of major US companies in the areas of agriculture, aviation and transportation.

“In the area of aviation, the Nigerian officials will be meeting with Boeing, the largest aircraft manufacturer in the world, on the National Carrier Project.

“On agriculture, they will meet with large equipment manufacturers with focus on harvesting and post harvesting equipment.

“In the area of transportation, the officials will meet with the GE-led consortium for the implementation of the interim phase of the narrow gauge rail concession.

The report claims that Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves, Sporting Lisbon winger Gelson Martins and, finally, Southampton right-back Cedric Soares are all on the radar of Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino.

The former duo makes sense for Spurs, central midfield and wide areas remain a problem for the club. But Soares seems a waste of time and money.

The 21-year-old has shown glimpses of real talent during his time at Spurs and will soon be hoping to break into the first-team picture. The offer of a new deal would be a major indicator that the England under-20 World Cup winner has a long-term future at the club.

Signing Soares would be a massive barrier to that end goal. It would leave Spurs having Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier as well as Soares and Walker-Peters. If the idea is to sell Aurier, who has failed to convince since arriving from PSG in the summer, then Tottenham should not replace him with an expensive new recruit.

Walker-Peters is ready and waiting to go in the first-team and most fans believe he has what it takes to be a star under Pochettino. Bringing in Soares would seem something of an unnecessary exercise from Tottenham and one which would surely leave Walker-Peters questioning his role at the club.

Tottenham should instead continue with their pursuit of a new deal for their young talent, who can operate on both the right and left side of the defence. If not, the 21-year-old should seriously consider forcing an exit away from Spurs, as it would appear his chance with the first-team is never forthcoming.

Napoli’s £50m-rated star Jorginho should choose Manchester City over rivals United

There’s no love lost between the two Manchester clubs, with the rivalry looking set to go up a notch over the summer as the Premier League heavyweights prepare to fight over Napoli’s hugely impressive midfielder Jorginho. What’s the story? The Mirror reports that United are looking to muscle in on a deal which is said to be quietly happening in the background to take the Italian star to the Etihad.

Pep Guardiola has identified the 26-year-old former Verona player as his number target to replace the departing Yaya Toure and provide cover and competition to Fernandinho. But with United set to wave goodbye to Marouane Fellaini in the summer and Michael Carrick retiring, Jose Mourinho is also desperate for a quality signing to marshal the centre circle.

An informal agreement between Napoli and City is thought to exist and talks between Jorginho’s representatives and Manchester City officials are said to have taken place. That’s not stopping the Old Trafford club making their own inquiries, however. Where should he go? Obviously, the decision is Jorginho’s. He has both Manchester clubs vying for his signature and no doubt other offers too.

Plus he can always stick around in Naples and continue doing good things with the newly resurgent I Ciucciarelli. Should he choose England, though? You have to imagine that a move to City is the wisest. The Mirror also reports that Guardiola is said to have looked at Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Weigl, yet Jorginho remains his first choice.

The Brazilian-born midfielder would thrive as a box-to-box type at the Etihad and, let’s be honest, the managerial style of Guardiola is more appealing to players than Mourinho’s. Then, of course, there are the trophies. A move to Manchester City would stand Jorginho is pretty good stead for a serious haul of winners’ medals. Where will he end up, though? We’ll have to wait until the summer to find out.

He has actually suggested that their defence is not what it once was. ‘I’m sure Liverpool supporters would want Bayern due to the fact Real Madrid have won it the last two occasions,’ he explained on Sky Sports.

‘Their [Real’s] experience in this competition is incredible and that does help. ‘I’ve seen enough of watching Real Madrid over this year that they’re vulnerable. They’re not the team they were the last couple of years.

‘Watching them at the Bernabeu against Juventus, I got to see that defensively, they can be left wanting. ‘The way Liverpool play not just the front three, but the midfielders getting forward breaking lines, this [Real] midfield will struggle to stay with you.

North Korea test site could be unusable after collapse - Chinese scientists

Chinese scientists have concluded that North Korea's nuclear test site has partially collapsed, potentially rendering it unusable. The test site at Punggye-ri has been used for six nuclear tests since 2006.

After the last, in September, a series of aftershocks hit the site, which seismologists believe collapsed part of the mountain's interior. On Saturday, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un announced he was suspending his country's nuclear and missile tests.

The surprise declaration came ahead of historic talks with South Korea and the US. The latest research from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) is due to be published in Geophysical Research Letters, a journal of the American Geophysical Union, in the coming days. It concluded that eight and a half minutes after September's test, there was "a near-vertical on-site collapse towards the nuclear test centre".

What do we know about N Korea's nuclear site? Why has Kim Jong-un halted North Korean tests now? The Punggye-ri site is situated in mountainous terrain in North Korea's north-east, and tests have taken place in a system of tunnels dug below Mount Mantap.

A one-page summary of the research on the USTC website concluded: "The occurrence of the collapse should deem the underground infrastructure beneath mountain Mantap not be used for any future nuclear tests." But those words do not appear in the final peer-reviewed paper. It instead says that the "collapse in the test site calls for continued close monitoring of any leaks of radioactive materials". Prof Wen Lianxing, the lead author of the study, told the Wall Street Journal that the conclusion about the test site's viability would not be included in the published paper, but did not say why.

A graphic on the university website concludes the test site is likely unusable - but the peer-reviewed paper does not The research echoes similar findings by a team from the Jilin Earthquake Agency, published in the same journal last month. That team concluded that the explosion "created a cavity and a damaged 'chimney' of rocks above it", leading to a collapse.

The earlier paper did not offer an opinion on the viability of the test site in the wake of the collapse. Media captionKim Jong-un and Donald Trump: From enemies to frenemies? The US Geological Survey recorded a second seismic event about eight minutes after the test, which it assessed as a "collapse" of the cavity. Two aftershocks were detected as late as December, prompting concerns about the stability of the surrounding mountains.

Avicii’s Family Released A New Statement About His Death & It’s Absolutely Heartbreaking

Nearly a week after his sudden and unexpected passing, Avicii's family has released a new statement regarding his death, according to Variety. In the days following the news that Avicii died at the age of 28 in Muscat, Oman, his family first thanked fans for their love and support, and wrote that they were "grateful for the privacy during this difficult time. Our wish is that it continues that way." But their latest statement, a heartbreaking one, appears to reveal more about Avicii's final days.

Three days after their first statement, the family of Avicii (real name Tim Bergling) shared a message in Swedish explaining who the DJ was as a person. In it, they address his ambivalence toward fame and the apparent stress it caused him. Per Variety's translation, the Bergling family wrote: "Our beloved Tim was a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions.

An over-achieving perfectionist who travelled and worked hard at a pace that led to extreme stress. When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be happy and be able to do what he loved most – music. He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness. He could not go on any longer. He wanted to find peace. Tim was not made for the business machine he found himself in; he was a sensitive guy who loved his fans but shunned the spotlight.

Tim, you will forever be loved and sadly missed. The person you were and your music will keep your memory alive. We love you." Variety and other publications are reporting that the statement seems to imply Avicii took his own life, but neither the family nor his publicist has released any further information regarding the statement. As of now, no official cause of death has been given, but a police report is expected in the next few days.

Earlier this week, the Royal Oman Police ruled out any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death, according to CNN. Previously, Avicii had struggled with his health. In 2014, Avicii underwent surgery for a blocked gallbladder and a burst appendix after being diagnosed with pancreatitis the year before. People reported that Avicii's ailments were related, in part, to excessive drinking.

The diagnosis eventually led Avicii to retire from touring in 2016. A decision that wasn't easy for the artist who had, according to Page Six, performed a total of 813 gigs between 2008 and 2016, but was necessary. “To me it was something I had to do for my health,” he told The Hollywood Reporter of his decision to quit touring.

“The scene was not for me. It was not the shows and not the music. It was always the other stuff surrounding it that never came naturally to me. But, retirement seemed to suit the artist behind hits like "Levels" and "Wake Me Up." He told THR he was "happier, more stress-free than I've been in a long time" after announcing he would stop touring. The following year, Avicii announced via his website that he was still recording new music, but he would not be returning to the road.

Days before his passing, Avicii was nominated for a Billboard Music Award for his album AVĨCI (01). His last tweet had him celebrating the nomination for Top Dance/Electronic Album. Following his death, fellow celebrities honored Avicii on Twitter including EDM artists like Zedd, Deadmau5, and Calvin Harris. "Devastating news about Avicii," Harris wrote. "A beautiful soul, passionate and extremely talented with so much more to do."

Avicii's ex-girlfriend, who he credited as being a huge part of his recovery after his surgeries, also wrote a touching post. Avicii's ex-girlfriend Racquel Bettencourt's tribute talked about the impact he had on so many people's lives, including hers. "You were the biggest part of my life and played a huge role," she wrote on Instagram.

"I will forever cherish those moments. I just want you to know that I never stopped having love for you." With their latest statement, Avicii's family is also honoring him by taking an honest look at who he was. Not as an artist, but the person they knew and loved. The person they want people to remember.

Fresh bloodbath as gunmen kill 13 more in Benue village

There was outrage across the country yesterday following the spate of killings, in Benue State where for the second day running, gunmen attacked villages, killing 13 more people.

On Tuesday, 19 people, including two priests, were killed in two attacks in Ukor Mbalon Gwer Local Government Area.

The first attack was at dawn during a Catholic mass; the second during a burial.

Yesterday’s attack took place at Tse Umenger in Mbadwem Council Ward and Mbakpaase in Saghev in Guma Local Government Area, where 13 people were killed, according to Police Commissioner Fatai Owoseni, who spoke to TheNation on the telephone last night.

Also yesterday, seven people were killed in Ihuman village in Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. Killings have been rampant in the area in the last two months.

Owoseni said the attacks “have gone beyond herders/farmers clashes or communal clashes”.

“It is pure murderous insurgency. These people are enagaged in unconventional warfare and sheer killings,” he said.

The police chief said some of the villagers disclosed that the attackers came at about 5 a.m.

A cross section of the villagers confirmed the attack and said people were killed.

One of them, Shaapera Nyon, said the attackers came at about 5a.m while most people were still asleep.

He said the residents were woken up by gunshots and the cries of agony from gunshot victims.

It was learnt that houses were also razed by the invaders.

A survivor, Mrs Bridget Ugbuusu, said the attackers were armed with sophisticated weapons. They shot at every door while it was raining and killed many people who tried to escape .

“They shot me in the left leg and I fell down; they thought I was dead and later on I tried to escape and they met me again and machete me on my right hand, “ said Mrs .Ugbuusu.

She said one of her four children was killed; three are missing.

Mrs Ugbuusu, who is at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi, slumped on hearing that her children was killed.

Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Southern and Middle Belt Leaders, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and fomer Semate President David Mark, among others, expressed strong positions against the killings.

CAN called on Chrisians to protest peacefully in churches on Sunday against the killings.

CAN President Olasupo Ayokunle, in a statement by his spokesman Adebayo Oladeji, said Sunday had been declared “a National Day of Protest against unending killings in the country”.

The day is to be dedicated “to pray for the freedom and liberty of Leah Sharibu, the remaining Chibok girls and others still in captivity of the Boko Haram terrorists”. “We are already at a breaking point and a state of anomie is almost here,” he said.

The Christian body said the protest should be peaceful and done within premises of churches. It urged “the Federal Government and security agencies to stop the unending killings and bloodshed in the country”.

“Christians are to carry placards with inscriptions meant to address issues about sustained killings, attacks and destruction of their property.

“The inscriptions on placards could read, “Enough of bloodshed in Nigeria”, “Enough of unlawful killings in the country”, “FG, Release Leah Sharibu from the bondage”, “FG, Stop Herdsmen Killings”, “CAN rejects FG’s poor handling of insecurity”, etc.

“Government should be called upon to perform their constitutional responsibility of protecting citizens now. No excuse should be given for this wicked act again and perpetrators must be brought to book now. “

CAN appealed “to the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to mount different effective plans aimed towards disarming herdsmen across the northern states and in communities where they have been wreaking havoc across the country in national interest.”

Herdsmen Massacre 2 Priests, catechists & 14 others during Mass

Two priests, two catechists and about 14 worsippers has been killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Ayar community of Gwer-East Local Government Area in the state.

The slain priests, Revd. Frs. Joseph Gor and Felix Tyolaha and the other victims were reportedly butchered to death in the early hours of this morning by the suspected Fulani herdsmen who attacked them while they were at morning Mass in a local church in the community.

A large crowd of Catholic faithful gathered at the Bishop Murray Medical Centre, Makurdi this morning to witness the depositing of the remains of slain priests, who were later brought in amidst much wailing and sorrow from the crowd of mourners.

The remains of the slain priests were an ugly sight to behold as their killers had butchered and mutilated their bodies hideously.

Reports of the attacks were collaborated by some of the locals who had escaped and fled to Makurdi, and were among the crowd at the hospital.

Miracle emerges winner of BBNaija 2018 show, gets N25m grand prize

Miracle Igbokwe has emerged winner of Nigeria’s biggest reality TV show, Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) after having the highest vote of 38.18%.

The pilot and model contested keenly for the grand prize of 25 million and a brand new car alongside other housemates for 85days.

BBNaija which started on January 28, ended on Sunday with Miracle, one of the 20 housemates winning the grand prize.

23-year-old Miracle will go home with N25 million.

The five finalists are Miracle, Cee-C, Tobi, Alex and Nina

Miracle, has been a lucky one in the contest as he won many of awards put up.

- He emerged winner of the BigBrotherNaija (Double Wahala) final wager challenge.

- The lucky BBNiaja housemate, had earlier emerged winner of the season’s Payporte arena games challenge with a prize of N1 million.

- He also won the Pepsi Challenge carting away the sum of 1 million naira.

- Miracle was again lucky to have won N200,000 wager allowance after picking the box tagged number two.

Miracle won the cash in a contest with seven other housemates.

They were all instructed by BigBrother to pick a box each labelled 1- 10.

BigBrother, who presented the wager challenge as the simplest of the season, presented housemates with 10 suitcases with gift items in each of the boxes.

BigBrother said one of the suitcases contained a cash reward and instructed housemates not to pick the suitcase containing the cash reward.

He said if any of the housemates picked the suitcase containing the cash reward the housemate wins the cash reward but the house loses the wager.

Housemates were given two minutes to pick and open a box of their choice using the pin code 777.

Miracle picked the box labelled number 2, which contained the money.

2018 World Cup: Win and get $24m, Pinnick tells Super Eagles

Amaju Pinnick, the President, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has said that the Super Eagles stand the chance of pocketing $24 million if they play in the final of the 2018 World Cup.

The 2018 World Cup will hold from June 14 to July 15 in Russia.

Pinnick told newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday at a parley that the money was part of the agreement reached with the players to share 50-50, whatever would accrue to the country if they get to the final and lift the trophy.

“I don’t put players under pressure. Pressure can be put on them unconsciously because we are creating enabling environment for them.

“If for example we don’t have money to prepare them, they can now relax but now, we have given them everything upfront and now, they should deliver.

“If today they get to the final, the World Cup money will be shared 50-50 between the team and the NFF.

“Winning the final is 48 million dollars, it means the team will get 24 million dollars and the football house will take the remaining 24 million dollars,” Pinnick said.

He also said that adequate preparation including grade A friendly matches have been secured with England and Czech Republic to ensure the team do well at the World Cup.

The NFF boss further said that the glass house had already secured $2.8 million to pay the players allowances and bonuses during the mundial.

“We are ready to play against England on June 2 in London in an international friendly; we had a conclusive meeting with the English FA.

“After the England match, we will play Czech Republic and from there we move to Russia. As it is, everything is going on very well.

“For the World Cup, I don’t think we have any problem, I am in touch with the technical committee. It is the desire of every Nigerian to see the Super Eagles do well at the World Cup.

“We had a meeting with the team; we signed a contract with them and ready to pay them 20 per cent of eight million which is what accrued to us for qualifying for the World Cup.

“At the end of the day it amounts to 2.8million dollars which will go to the players. The money is almost 100 per cent ready,” Pinnick added.

Pinnick also explained that the football house met with some state governors who were ready to assist the NFF financially to achieve the country’s World Cup dream.

He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his support for the NFF and the Super Eagles, and assured that they would not let him down in Russia.

Police recover stolen Senate Mace under Abuja Flyover

The mace of the Senate forcefully taken away by some hoodlum at the Senate Chamber of the National Assembly has been recovered by the Police.

The Mace was carted away by some suspected thugs during a plenary session on Wednesday.

The action led the Senate to direct the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and the Director General of the State Security Services (SSS), Lawan Daura, to retrieve the mace within 24 hours.

The Police in a statement in the early hours of Thursday by the Deputy Force Spokesman, SP Aremu Adeniran said the mace was abandoned at a point under the flyover before the City Gate.

Adeniran also said the IG has directed the Commissioner of Police, FCT to beef up security at the National Assembly.

The statement reads: “Sequel to the invasion of the Senate Chambers of the National Assembly, Federal Republic of Nigeria on the 18th April, 2018 by some suspected thugs who disrupted the Senate Plenary Session and carted away the Mace of the Red Chambers, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris, immediately instituted a high-powered Police Investigation and Intelligence Team coordinated by the IGP Monitoring Unit of the Force and further directed a total lock-down of the Federal Capital Territory with intense surveillance patrol and thorough Stop and Search operations at various Police check-points with a view to arresting perpetrators and possible recovery of the stolen mace.”

On how the mace was recovered, Adeniran said: “The Police teams engaged in massive raids of identified criminal spots/flashpoints, stop and search operations, visibility and confidence building patrols, intelligence gathering which forced the suspected miscreants to abandon the Mace at a point under the flyover before the City Gate, where a patriotic passer-by saw it and alerted the Police.”

The Police while commending motorists within Abuja Metropolis for their support and timely information during the rigorous stop and search operations for the recovery of the Mace added that discreet investigation into the incident was ongoing so as to arrest and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Fulani Herdsmen kill 3 Policemen in Nasarawa attacks

The Nasarawa state Police Command has lost three of its officers to gunmen suspected to be herdsmen in two separate attacks in Awe and Keana local government areas on Wednesday.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bello who confirmed the incidents while addressing newsmen at the command’s headquarters in Lafia yesterday said five persons have been arrested in connection with the murder.

The Police commissioner gave names of the culprits as Bawa Alhaji, Aliyu Waziri, Muhammed Auta Riga, Sale Muhammad and Alhaji Adamu Auta, adding that they were all arrested in Riga Auta along Radio House in Keana local government area of the state.

He said items recovered from them include one AK 47 rifle with 30 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, adding that the command had since commence investigation into the senseless killings at the Southern senatorial of the state.

Ahmed said: “It is quite unfortunate that these attacks were not only unleashed on innocent citizens, but also on security personnel who are trying to restore peace and order in the affected communities.”
“On April 16, 2018 there were attacks on our men while responding to distress calls in Awe and Keana local government areas, which led to the loss of three police personnel on peacekeeping mission,” he added.

CP Ahmed said so far sixteen suspected Fulani herders have been arrested by Nasarawa state police command in connection with the ongoing killings and for committing various offences in Obi, Awe and Keana local government areas of the state.

The police boss also disclosed that the command had also arrested four Fulani mercenaries whom he said migrated from Shendam in Plateau state to Azara in Awe local government to unleash terror.
Those apprehended were Mohammed Sani- Adamu, Shuaibu Alhaji, Saidu Mahammadu and Adamu Jatau.

Davido's uncle, Senator Adeleke to contest for Osun governorship election

Sen. Ademola Adeleke, the Senator representing Osun West Senatorial district, has joined race for the Osun State governorship election.

Adeleke, otherwise known as Otunba of Oke-Ila Orangun, made this known in a letter written to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Monday, through the National Chairman, Uche Secondus to notify them of his intention to vie for the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

The ‘dancing Senator’ also took to his Twitter handle to announce his ambition.

Adeleke, an uncle to popular singer, Davido, said his intention to vie for the position was based on a conviction that he possesses all it takes to unite leaders and members of the PDP.

“I pledge for my continuous commitment and support for the stability, growth and success of PDP at all levels. Today I officially join the Osun Gubernatorial race”, he said.

He also wrote on his Twitter page shortly after submitting his letter thus, “Today I officially join the Osun Gubernatorial race.”

Four policemen killed by suspected Herdsmen in Benue

Benue State Police Command on Monday confirmed the killing of four of its men by suspected herdsmen.

According to the statement by the Command spokesman, ASP Moses Yamu, the incident happened at Anyibe, in Logo Local Government Area of the state.

Logo and Guma local government areas have been under severe attacks of suspected Fulani herdsmen since the New Year, resulting in loss of lives.

Yamu, in the statement issued, stated that the Policemen came under the fire of insurgents at Anyibe, Logo LGA between 18.00 hours of Sunday and early Monday morning.

“Sadly at the moment, four casualties have been suffered by Police,” Yamu noted.

Yamu said that additional reinforcement, including the air asset of the Police, has been deployed by Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.

The PPRO expressed assurance that the attackers would soon be arrested and be made to face the wrath of the law.

Suspected Herdsmen kill 32 in Nasarawa

Suspected Fulani herdsmen at the weekend killed at least 32 villagers at different locations across the southern senatorial district of Nasarawa State in a series of well coordinated attacks.

The attackers are said to have carried out the attacks on the Tiv villages simultaneously across Awe, Keana, Obi and Doma LGAs of the north central state, leaving 19 others with severe gun and machete injuries.

As at the time of filing this report, over 10,000 Tiv villagers were said to be trapped along the Agwatashi-Jangwa road axis in Obi LGAs shortly after the marauding herdsmen sacked over 200 villages, including Uvirkaa, hometown of a serving Commissioner for Water Resources in the state, Barr. Gabriel Akaaka.

It was gathered from some of the affected areas that about 15,000 fleeing Tiv villagers were stranded in streets of Lafia, the state capital.

Already, over 100,000 of them are taking refuge in different Internally Displaced Persons camps at Agwatashi, Aloshi, Awe, Adudu, Obi, Keana, Doma, Agyaragu, among other locations.

At the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH) in Lafia, where 8 victims are currently receiving treatment as a result of injuries sustained from the attacks, 5 corpses from the attack are interned at the morgue, 3 were later released by the police for burial.

Confirming the development to newsmen in Lafia, President Tiv Youth Organization Nasarawa State chapter, Peter Ahemba, said entire Tiv villages in the southern part of the state have been sacked, noting that most of the affected villages are being occupied by the invaders.

According to him “As I speak to you, 9 corpses of our people killed this morning by the Fulani terrorists in Wurji village of Keana LGA have just been recovered and brought to Keana town by the police.

“Last night, 7 of our people were killed in the coordinated attacks, with 11 others still missing at Kertyo and Apurugh villages in Obi Local Government.

“Last Saturday, we recorded 8 deaths from similar attacks in Kadarko area, four from Aloshi axis, one person from Agberagba, all in Keana LGA. Another six persons were shot at Imon village and were rushed to Obi General Hospital, as a result of which one of them later died. This is just few out of deaths we recorded within the last three days as a result of these senseless attacks,” the youth leader said.

BBNaija: Cee-C becomes final head of House

Cynthia Nwadiora, popularly known as Cee-C has been nominated as Head of House in the Big Brother House for the last week of the season.

Housemates had earlier nominated Nina as head of House, but Big Brother cancelled the votes, scolding the housemates for disobeying his instruction. He had told them to nominate the housemate who had been the head of house the least number of times.

It is noted that Cee-C had never won the head of House challenge in the last thirteen weeks, and she accepted the title.

Cee-C is widely known for her quarrelsome attitude, as she has had issues with several housemates, in the course of the show. However, during the eviction last Sunday, Khloe who was evicted, alongside Anto and Lolu, described her as someone with “a soft heart”.

There are only five housemates left in the Big Brother House, with one expected to win the grand prize of 45 million naira on Sunday, 22nd April, 2018. They are Miracle, Tobi, Alex, Cee-C and Nina.
