Cd “Orisha: Falling Open” by Orisha, available now from CD Baby.

Sometimes I like music hard, sometimes I like it fast, Sometimes I like it fun, sometimes I like it sad. But then there are the times when I like it mellow. The new CD from Australian artist Orisha proves that you can have a bit of mellow, but still get it served with a good dose of edge.

I like that.

The write up at CD Baby says:

Lush, vocal-based electronic-glitch-pop, heartfelt lyrics and lavish soundscapes create a moody sonic journey. Trip-hop and chanteuse influenced, beats, glitches, melodies and harmonies.

Well, that pretty much sums it up. CD Baby also compares the music to Björk, Kate Bush, and Massive Attack. Not a bad group to be associated with.

I am particularly drawn to the song Waiting for a Change. The song has a haunting quality that really moves me. It is definitely one of the standout tracks on a superb album. Although all tracks have their charm, other standouts for me are the tracks Falling Open and Se Tu M’ami, the later which has a stronger beat and adds to the overall feel of this release.

I am the kind of guy that listens to classical and death metal, and most flavors in between, except country of course. Still, electronic ambient, trip-hop, whatever you want to call it, if done right moves me when I am in the right mood. If you find yourself in the mood for some electronic goodness, I highly recommend this latest release from Orisha.

Thanks to Lockergnome, I Have a Childhood Memory to Share

Yep, over on friendfeed, Lockergnome posted his favorite toy from his childhood, which made me remember mine. I had the Evel Knievel Stunt Cycle. Man I loved that thing.

Of course, that was just one of the Evel Knieval range of toys, but that was my favorite. It fit right in with my Tonka trucks, Planet of the Apes figures, Steve Austin with his 6 Million Dollar Man Rocket, and the original furry headed G.I. Joe’s.

I wish I still had that cycle, for the memories, and for the 40 Year Old Virgin scenario of making the big bucks.

Hey, memories only go so far. What would I do? Go out and play in my driveway? The neighbors would deem me strange or something. Yep, the cash would be better today.

Oh hell, who am I kidding? Hell yeah I would go play with it in the driveway. Screw the nosey assed neighbors.

Here is a video of the full range of Evel Knievel toys. Of all of the toys, he only actually used the cycle and rocket thing in real life. And hell, the rocket thing did not work out all that well. Snake River Canyon ate his lunch that day.

40 years of Bowie’s Space Oddity

Space oddity was originally released in 1969, the year I came screaming into the world. Well, this video is of Space Oddity, but an earlier version. There are a good bit of differences between this and the version most of us know.

Check it out and enjoy.

For me, Bowie does very little wrong, I just love the guy.

Helping the cause, Dave Carroll vs. United Airlines

This is funny and totally expected. The full story can be found at Dave’s Myspace page , but to summarize…

Dave Carroll was on tour with Sons of Maxwell and someone on their United flight noticed the flight crews were throwing guitars. They busted up Dave’s $3500 Taylor guitar in the process. After months of fruitless haggling with United, they basically told Dave to screw off.

Hey, wait a minute, isn’t this guy a musician?

Well, Dave told the last person he talked to, and who is immortalized in this song, that he was going to do three songs, and three videos of the affair. Here is the first.

$3500 for a new guitar that they destroyed, or who knows how much cleaning up the public relations mess. Yeah, United chose well.

Let’s get the views up on these videos to help the cause.

One Step Closer

If you are here at the site, you can see that the redesign of RfL from a new media, Mevio centered, site to a freelance design site is well underway. If you are reading this in Google Reader, or some other reader, then you probably can’t see what I am talking about.

I swear, I am not done producing RfL 2.0 or the Animated Adventures. I am just 100% focused on building my business and getting new clients. Luckily for me, that side is going well.

Now, I have to get back to paying the bills. Back to the client work, in other words.

I am coming to the realization that for me, zero inbox actually means 35-55 emails. If I actually kept to zero, I would get nothing done.

Cutting my backyard is always a challenge. It is not big, but it is bumpy, curvy, and a whole lot of other “y’s”. Well, this morning, my backyard took out a bracket on my mower, which took out the tire, which got sucked into the blades, which then ejected it at my head.

Suddenly I am feeling okay. Dodged another one. Cat’s with nine lives? Please! I got them beat!
