Un día finalmente supe
Lo que necesitaba hacer, y empecé,
Aunque todos mis vecinos
Estaban gritando
Su mal consejo –
Aunque la casa
Estaba temblando
Y sentí el tirón
En mis tobillos.
“¡Arregla la vida mía!”
Llamaron las voces.
Pero no pare.
Supe lo que necesitaba hacer
Aunque el viento arrastró
Con sus garras
A mis fundamentos,

Something's gone wrong.
Our merry's been paused.
It's wrecked your songs.
The cheerful ring
Of your sleighbells
Is not "a thing".
There are no elves.
We've tried to fill
Your boots and failed.
We need cheer pills.
Our sleighs have sailed.
I know you planned
On one year off,
But understand,
We aren't enough.
You are the one
We're wishing for.
Santa, please run

Somewhere between here and where,
The truth is hushed tonight.
Sometime between now and when,
I know I'll see the light.
Somehow between who and what,
It will fall into place.
Someday between because and why,
You'll see it on my face.

Living Like Sea Glass
by Rachel Hoyt
Right now I live between the waves
Of hope and desperation,
Biding my time amongst the grime;
Dreaming of destination.
My edges are still a bit rough,
Some surfaces unpolished.
I feel as if I've had enough,
Like hope's all but abolished.
But, sometimes, in between the waves,
I catch a glimpse of light -

Eat It Up

The shelves are stocked against you
with profit packed flavors -
trademarked tastes of the sweet life
you've limited time to savor.
Just one bite? No, that won't do.
Who would eat all the rest?
It was bottled and boxed to cure your strife,
cooked up just for you, the guests.

Tick Tock Cacophony
by Rachel Hoyt
The ticks click by quick
as the tocks slowly knock,
then slick as a trick,
they meet up at the dock -
one moment, one prick,
a single time block.
The trick is quite slick -
all ad hocs turned flock,
while still ticking ticks
and chock full of tocks -
the tune coos and clicks
as time turns the clocks.

wonder can stray,

Pocket Change

My pockets are always empty.
I never have any spare change.
I pinch and pinch, but my pennies
all seem to roll straight down the drain.
Banks helped me to have 'cash' a plenty

then the plastic began to appease
my pockets by pampering their pain.
