I told you, “The floodgates are open!” February is thick with J Dilla tributes and today’s pick is a mix by the homie and fellow Rick & Ray fam, ERok. I caught him last night at Basicali‘s release party and was convinced that he is one of the best super technical djs out there. I’ve been on some left shit lately. I was just inspired by this Stretch and Bobbito compilation last night and today I’m bumping some Venus X. I wanted to share it with you and hopefully you can feel it. I’m off on that whole scary part (around the 12:30 mark) and always fast forward to the next selection. Awe yeah, it’s February and it’s about to rain hard on everyone. It’s just the first week of the month and sure enough, the movers and shakers in Los Angeles are at it again. If you are in L.A. this Saturday, cancel all of your plans that night and hit up Boombox. Big shouts to Inka.

Next Monday is a special Dilla Birthday Edition of Motown On Mondays LA, featuring a special guest set by House Shoes who will be rocking original soul samples used by Dilla plus Motown breaks. Also in the mix, MOM LA residents Expo and D-JR will be holding it down with lots of classic Motown jams, remixes, and more! We’ll also have the homie Food One aka Jim Mahfood in the building rocking live art for the night. So come join us to celebrate the legacy of a true hip-hop legend and some of the music that inspired him.

Last Saturday we played at Scotland Yard with Garfield Adams, most of our friends kicked it, drank it and got pissy drunk. This spot will be our new home for the rest of the year, we start our first residency on March 17. Peace to all the new people that bought RN cds.

“Blow Up L.A.: The Art of Blowing Up Your City” an exhibition opening on February 4, 2012 and curated by Gonzo247 of Aerosol Warfare. Blow Up L.A.! is part of the traveling Blow Up (Your City!) Aerosol Warfare exhibition which features customized Jamungo BUD & NADE vinyl dolls by national and local artists as well as other artwork. Artists with backgrounds in graffiti, street art, design, illustration and other urban expressions will customize the urban vinyl toys with no given limitations. The stylized urban toys and other artwork will be on display and for sale at Crewest Gallery from Feb 4, 2012 through Feb. 26, 2012.

Last week we were in Hollywood at The Echoplex, and this Saturday we’re at home in the valley at Scotland Yard. This show is free for the 21 and older crowd.
