Hi there

I recently had the problem that I installed an admin template for 3.x.x but I use 2.5. Now I can't access the Control Panel anymore.

Is there a way to switch the admin Template back to the default admin Template?

Thanks

How to change the time on a saved event RSEvents Pro

Video Transcript

Hey, welcome to RichardBankertWebDesign.com. Today we’ve got RSevents Pro.

We’ve created a new event, but we have a problem - we want to change the time. So we click on our event here, it opens up and we can see our time, but we can’t click on it and it is annoying. But I need to change this time.

The way they’ve done this, and I don’t agree and I don’t know why they did this. It should be that you can click on it, that would make sense. Someone from RS is looking at this. You should look at this again, this is terrible.

You have to click on the date. In order to change it, You actually click and hold the time down here, and You drag and then it will go up to the right time, or down. Let’s say I need it to be 9:30. OK, we got 9:30. I can also move that around. This is all cool, but is completely unnecessary, which is why it’s annoying and which is why You are watching the video and why it’s so confusing. But wait, that’s 9:30. I have to click on the date to make it go away. But it’s 9:30 am, I want it to be 9:30 pm. I actually have to keep dragging until I have 21:30. Now I’ve got 9:30 pm.

I don’t know why we couldn’t have just a nice little scroll wheel or something simple like that instead of this whole dragging thing, which is completely unnatural. So, now we have to make this 22:26, or whatever.

That’s how you set the date, that’s how you set the time, change the time on this. That’s how you update your time. It’s a really round about way of doing things compared to the way that I feel that it should be done. What do you think? Let me know in the comments below. Is it working for you? Do you like it? Do you hate it? Do you wish they do something else? Do you have any other questions about RSevents Pro? Thanks for watching this tutorial. I’ll catch you again next time.

How to Let the user decide to subscribe to your RSMail newsletter with RSForm pro

Video Transcript

Hey! Welcome back to Richard Bankert Web Design Tutorials.

We took the summer off from taking videos and we are back at it now. We are back into Joomla. We are working with Joomla 3 right now and RSForm and RSMail and we are looking at how to integrate them together. So, enough chitchat, we’ll get right into it.

Here you can see where our RSForm pro is and we’ll go right into our form and we’re going to use our RSForm example. So, when we have someone who signs up and uses this form, we want someone who’s going to be able to fill this all out and they’re going to get added to our RSMail Newsletter. So we want to integrate the two.

So, the where we look for that is right here. And you can see: “Ha, we do not have that”. That’s because you have to download the plugin for it, from RSJoomla.com. It’s a commercial extension, don’t worry, the links are down in the description below, just go and click on them and you can head over and grab those.

So, I am going to go to my extension manager. The file that you are actually going to look at, downloading here, is the RS pro mail plugin. We’ll upload and install that. Make sure to go over to your plugins and enable this plugin. After it’s enabled and you go back to your form, you can see: “Ah, we have RSMail integration. This is really quite simple.

By default, RSMail has a list already created, so we are using that default list; I’ve done absolutely nothing in RSMail yet.

Use Integration field - Check YES.

Action field - You can choose Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Let the user decide. If you use Let the user decide, then you have to set some things up in RSForm and I’m not covering that, this is just a basic intro here.

We are going to say we want them just to be able to Subcribe.

My Subscribers will be the list field name.

Only after Email confirmation - This means that they will receive a confirmation and you’ll have to put this into the confirmation Email that is sent to them, then they’ll click on it and then it will enable their subscription.

Then, here we can merge some information:

- Email, I’ll put that there
- First name - We don’t have a first name, so first name will just be the Full name
- Company - the default one doesn’t really have a company either, so we’re going to ignore that.

And I am going to click on Save.

Let’s see if it’s working. I am going to click on my RSForm pro example here and I am going to type in my name, my Email, number of employees, my position, that looks great, and You know what, I’d like to be contacted tomorrow, and I’ll hit Submit.

So we filled out the form. You can see there’s absolutely no Newsletter stuff here. They’re going to contact me later and that’s awesome, but, did it work? I am going to go under Components, and we’re going to click on RSMail and look at our subscribers and here you can see that I have successfully signed up for the list. That tells me that I subscribed to My Subscribers, which is the only list that is in here.

So, now you can go ahead and create your own list and it will automatically subscribe to whichever list you want - you can set that in the back.

That’s a very quick introduction to RSMail. We’re going to be digging into it deeper over this week. Thanks for watching this video. If you have any questions or comments, please leave them below. If you like this video, please click Like, it really helps out the channel and I appreciate that very much!

Uploading and ordering images in the WidgetKit Gallery

Video Transcript

Today we are looking at WidgetKit Gallery. WidgetKit is a neat little tool you can use to create galleries, slideshows and things like that. We’re going to take a look at it.

Here you can see that we have this image wall that we’ve created. It’s got 6 images in it. I’m going to show you how to add some images to it, how to move those images around. We’re just going to take a couple of minutes to look at that.

WidgetKit Gallery, put out by YouTheme, is a commercial extension, so you’ll have to pay for it. You can see here the different examples. They have a showcase box, image wall example, Polaroid example, slider example - pretty cool, second slider example, showcase screen example, the default example, another showcase example. So, there are all these different ways you can change your gallery up.

You can see here we just have 6 images with rounded corners. Now, to get to this, we go to Components, down to WidgetKit. This is, assuming that you have a Gallery already set up. Otherwise, just hit the Add New button and here we have the Gallery called Test.

Now, within the Gallery you can see we have our 6 images here. On the side we have all of the different settings. Here you can choose some of those examples that we looked up before. And these are the different options you have, to configure them.

Let’s say that we want to add some new images. I have a picture of a cowboy here that I would like, and by simply dragging and dropping it in there, it adds it. Let’s add two more, just to make 9 images.

So, now when I hit Save and then return to my Front Page and Refresh, you can see that we have all of these 9 images, instead of just the 6 that we previously had.

Now, what most often happens is, say we want to have the Default one, which is more like a slideshow, and I am going to hit Save. You can see that after we do that, all of our options change. I am just going to leave it as Default - the way it is - just for saving time.

Now, when we refresh on the front side, we now have it as a slideshow. Usually the slideshow is more like this Joomla logo, or it will be big and across the screen. This is just the way I’ve got the images set. It really doesn’t matter.

Now, the one thing you may want to do is: You see you have this gentleman here, but you really want this picture of the cowboys to be first. There’s no way to change the order of the Gallery unfortunately. If you are using a small amount of images, and want to change the order, the quick and easy way to do that, as you can see: “two cowboys by fire”, I’m going to delete that one. I’m going to go into my file here, I’m going to make that one to start with the number 1, and I’m going to make this one to start with the number 2. Then, re-upload those two files.

The order, by Default, over here, is in numerical, alphabetical order, so first numerical and then alphabetical. You can see we still have this other file that I had previously named with the 1, so I’m just going to delete that. By Default it’s going to go 1,2,3,4,5, - working it’s way down. By naming this one with 1, and this one with 2, you are able to control which one is showing up first. Now when we hit Save and Refresh, we have the cowboy image first.

It’s not really the best way to do it, but that is an easy way to do it, without using other extensions. If you are planning on having a whole ton of images in here, say 50 or more, you may not want to use 1. You’ll probably want to start with 11, 21, 31, so on, or maybe even starting in the hundreds or along a numerical string. That way, as you add images or you want them to be in a specific order, you can just simply insert them.

If you are not really concerned about the order, you can always choose Random, over here, and it will just randomise the images every time the page is refreshed.

That’s a quick look at the WidgetKit Gallery by YouTheme. If you need help setting it up, stop by our website at: RichardBankertWebDesign.com, fill out a ticket, we’ll be glad to help you out, or click on the link below, in the description. Thanks for stopping in and watching.
How to add user data into RSForm Pro free text area using php

The need may arise where you need to add some user data to an RSForm Pro free text box.
For example, you may want your form to say, “Hello User, welcome to my form”

To do this you will need to do a couple things. This is the barebones version, to see all the details please watch the video.

First your free text box uses straight html, so enter in your statement and include a placeholder tag, for example {my_user_text}.

Now go to properties, php scripts and use the first box, “Script called on form display”

Now enter in your php script. In this case we will use a script to call the username.

$user = JFactory::getUser();
$Z = $user->get('username');

We will then use a string replace to replace our tag {my_user_text} with the value from $Z

$formLayout = str_replace('{my_user_text}', $Z ,$formLayout);

Hit save and check it on the front.

First remember that a user must be logged in for the data to be displayed.
Second remember that the biggest case of frustration when using php is a mistyped character so if something is not working double check your work for errors.

Why do I get Database connection error (1): The MySQL adapter 'mysqli' is not available.

When there is nothing wrong with my installation folder. I am using XAMPP.

[SOLVED]

I struggled with this for a day when I suddenly got this error on my local xampp server. After finding out bits and pieces from various forums here is how I fixed it.

First I made a back-up of my xampp folder.
Then I went into the xampp folder, non back-up folder, and renamed the php folder to php-old
Then I installed xampp over top (it did keep all my files and databases so I did not lose them, no promises though so thus the back-up folder in step one.)
Up and running with no errors.

The apparent conflict is somewhere in the php file. Option #2 is to download a new version of PHP and copy the files directly over the php files. I can't really comment on it though as I have not tested it. Just an option if you are more comfortable doing that

How can I add a conditional field to RSForm Pro?

Adding a conditional field is a simple process and can really help your forms to stand out. The most common use of a conditional field is to enable a form field if a certain criteria is met.

So for example if you have a drop down on how your visitors found your website. You may have the options of internet search, newspaper, magazine, radio, and other.

Now you want to have a text box for the option for other, however you don't want it to be visible all the time, that just looks bad.

Using a conditional field you can control the other field to only display when the other option is selected in the drop down.

How is this done? Check out this tutorial video!

What is the default Joomla 2.5 article url?

The default url for Joomla 2.5 to access a specific article without creating a menu link is:

index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=22

The number at the end, in this case 22, is the id of your article. You can find this number in your article manager on the right hand side.

Just add that string after yourwebsitename.com, correct the article id at the end to your article.

For example:
http://www.yourwebsitename.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=22
