I have to get my overhead power cables disconnected by the electricity board, to allow the tank to be dropped in, so we are pushing on with that. I'll feel a lot more comfortable once the tank is in and the hole is filled. That should allow me to start laying the new sewage pipework and then start on the 4 ensuite bathrooms.

Before I left the UK, I managed to pack a container with all the goodies for Richies Place - the Kitchen, (less appliances - I'll import these from the states - most of the ovens in the UK are 240v 50hz, which would really mess up the timer function of the oven with our 60hz supply here), 4 bathrooms with custom showers and also a separate toilet for visitors to the house. They should all now be on their way to me!

Inevitable delays!

Well, with every project of this nature come delays. Mine stemmed from a complete unexpected attack of arthritis in my knees, feet and ankles, and so I have been stuck here in the UK for 4 months while the specialists prod me, (I think that helps them with their diagnosis). As it turns out, I pretty much diagnosed myself!

The good news is that for the last 2 weeks, I've been able to walk again - so I've taken full advantage of the opportunity and ordered the bathrooms and kitchen, along with organising the shipping container.

I'm pretty happy with the kitchen I designed - A modern, clean look with plenty of cooking and storage space for guests. I may even extend the island a little more, to double up as a breakfast bar with some stools for when you have to quickly get some breakfast down you before you go off for an early morning kite or dive! It's difficult to know until I'm back in the bare kitchen with the new units - I certainly don't want to clutter up the kitchen or reduce its usability.

The custom en-suite bathrooms I've designed should look great too! The fittings are gorgeous to look at and also incredibly functional. I've also been able to include some features which should help reduce the consumption of natural resources, without reducing performance in any way. More about them later! I certainly can't wait to use the new "big-headed" showers!

Well, I'm off in about 5 hours to start packing up pallets in readiness for the big day, so I best get some shut-eye!

Web Development

I'm now back in the UK and about to go round looking at new kitchens. (I'm thinking of gloss red units with a slate floor and walnut top). Whilst I'm here, I'll be ordering everything else for the house, so that it is ready and waiting for me when I get back to Cayman

In the meantime, I'm working on developing the website. The site should be up and running soon, ready for the planned opening in October!

What is Richies-Place.net?

Welcome to my Blog!

Richies-Place.net is affordable beachfront accommodation in the Cayman Islands.

This blog will follow the renovation of Richies-Place.net from shell through to final finish to give you the opportunity to see the progress made at the house before it opens to guests.

Richies-Place.net is a beachfront property that offers guests the opportunity to immerse themselves in real caribbean life.
