I don't know much about these artist but it is reported that they will be having their first concert here in Manila, Philippines. The concert of the american electro pop duo LMFAO will be held on April 11, 2012 at the Smart Araneta Coluseum (Quezon City).

Here is another movie from John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo to wait for. The title will be "It Takes a Man and a Woman" and the 2 said stars will be reprising their roles as Miggy Montenegro and Laida Magtalas.

If you can remember John Lloyd and Sarah also stared on their first movie "A very special love" that was released in year 2008. And according to some reports, it earned 180 million pesos in the box office!

After its success, it was succeeded by it official sequel which was "You changed my life" (released in 2009 and earned 209 million pesos in ticket sales!) Those first two films are awesome!

And now, the production team decided to make the third installment of series and as I have said so, that was "It Takes a Man and a Woman" which is set to premiere in theaters in June or July 2012.

“May konting time lapse pero hindi malinaw kung gaano katagal. Ang alam ko three years mula A Very Special Love. Basta may time lapse and sa simula ng storya, doon niyo makikita kung ano ang pagbabago.” said John Lloyd.

“Sa bawat relationship naman laging may changes ‘di ba? Ito may time lapse so makikita natin kung ano ang pagbabago kay Laida at sa relationship nila.” said Sarah.

Well, it seems that this movie will be a hit again. I think John Lloyd and Sarah's acting are good so movies like this are craved by people. I am still looking for It Takes a Man and a Woman photos and videos. I am planning to compile them if posible. How about you? Are you going to watch it?

The Used, The Cab, Cobra Starship and Dashboard Confessional Concert in Manila, Philippines (SMASH Project 2012)

Yes that's right! All of those artists stated on the title were on schedule to visit the Philippines for a concert.

The concert is also known as "Smash Project 2012" and will be held on March 8, 2012. It will take place on SMART Araneta Coliseum (The Big Dome, Quezon City, Philippines.)

Not just that! Because some famous Filipino bands will also be playing as front acts. It includes Chicosci, Urbandub and Typecast. Well, how was that?

The Used is composed of Bert McCracken (vocals, piano, keyboards), Jeph Howard (bass), Quinn Allman (guitar), and Dan Whitesides (drums).

The Cab is composed of Alexander De Leon (vocals), Alex Marshall (piano, guitar, backing vocals), and Joey Thunder (bass).

Cobra Starship is composed ofGabe Saporta (vocals), Ryland Backington (guitars), Alex Suarez (bass), Nate Navarro (drums), Victoria Asher (keytarist).

Price, Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S now available, online at least

Although we've heard no word of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S in stores, we've spotted it on one online retailer's website and no doubt it'll start cropping up elsewhere soon.

The Arc S is an uprated version of Sony Ericsson's previous flagship the Arc. The key difference being the improved 1.4GHz processor (compared to the Arc's 1GHz). Beyond that the S is effectively the same device but that's not a bad thing.

Highlights include the top-notch 4.2" LCD with Sony's BRAVIA engine to really make it 'pop'. There's 512MB of RAM, an 8MP camera capable of 720p HD video at 30fps with continuous auto-focus and a new 3D sweep panorama mode, a feature previously reserved for the likes of Sony Cybershot cameras like the TX-9. The most impressive thing about the sweep being that it creates a 3D image using the S' single lens camera. Also we should add that we've checked with SE personally and the same feature should be coming to Arc users in the not too distant future so there should be no bad blood between Arc and arc S users.

Forbes Magazine recently released its annual Top 400 list of the Richest Americans and, according to them, the combined net worth of these wealthy United States citizens amounts to $1.53 trillion.

Now here’s what this figure means: the total wealth of the 400 richest Americans is almost equivalent to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of one country alone, that is, Canada, the 9th largest economy in the world.

What’s more surprising, the total net worth of the 400 richest Americans is even bigger than the GDP of 138 countries combined. Whoa.

The Philippines, for example, has a GDP of only $189.1 billion, roughly the same as the combined net worth of the Top 5 Richest Americans — Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Larry Ellison, Charles Koch and David Koch. How’s that for power?

Web Design Mistakes You Should Avoid [repost]

There are several lists of web design mistakes around the Internet. Most of them, however, are the “Most common” or “Top 10” mistakes. Every time I crossed one of those lists I would think to myself: “Come on, there must be more than 10 mistakes…”. Then I decided to write down all the web design mistakes that would come into my head; within half an hour I had over thirty of them listed. Afterwards I did some research around the web and the list grew to 43 points.

The next step was to write a short description for each one, and the result is the collection of mistakes that you will find below. Some of the points are common sense, others are quite polemic. Most of them apply to any website though, whether we talk about a business entity or a blog. Enjoy! 1. The user must know what the site is about in seconds: attention is one the most valuable currencies on the Internet. If a visitor can not figure what your site is about in a couple of seconds, he will probably just go somewhere else. Your site must communicate why I should spend my time there, and FAST! 2. Make the content scannable: this is the Internet, not a book, so forget large blocks of text. Probably I will be visiting your site while I work on other stuff so make sure that I can scan through the entire content. Bullet points, headers, subheaders, lists. Anything that will help the reader filter what he is looking for. 3. Do not use fancy fonts that are unreadable: sure there are some fonts that will give a sophisticated look to your website. But are they readable? If your main objective is to deliver a message and get the visitors reading your stuff, then you should make the process comfortable for them. 4. Do not use tiny fonts: the previous point applies here, you want to make sure that readers are comfortable reading your content. My Firefox does have a zooming feature, but if I need to use on your website it will probably be the last time I visit it. 5. Do not open new browser windows: I used to do that on my first websites. The logic was simple, if I open new browser windows for external links the user will never leave my site. WRONG! Let the user control where he wants the links to open. There is a reason why browsers have a huge “Back” button. Do not worry about sending the visitor to another website, he will get back if he wants to (even porn sites are starting to get conscious regarding this point lately…). 6. Do not resize the user’s browser windows: the user should be in control of his browser. If you resize it you will risk to mess things up on his side, and what is worse you might lose your credibility in front of him. 7. Do not require a registration unless it is necessary: lets put this straight, when I browse around the Internet I want to get information, not the other way around. Do not force me to register up and leave my email address and other details unless it is absolutely necessary (i.e. unless what you offer is so good that I will bear with the registration). 8. Never subscribe the visitor for something without his consent: do not automatically subscribe a visitor to newsletters when he registers up on your site. Sending unsolicited emails around is not the best way to make friends. 9. Do not overuse Flash: apart from increasing the load time of your website, excessive usage of Flash might also annoy the visitors. Use it only if you must offer features that are not supported by static pages. 10. Do not play music: on the early years of the Internet web developers always tried to successfully integrate music into websites. Guess what, they failed miserably. Do not use music, period. 11. If you MUST play an audio file let the user start it: some situations might require an audio file. You might need to deliver a speech to the user or your guided tour might have an audio component. That is fine. Just make sure that the user is in control, let him push the “Play” button as opposed to jamming the music on his face right after he enters the website. 12. Do not clutter your website with badges: first of all, badges of networks and communities make a site look very unprofessional. Even if we are talking about awards and recognition badges you should place them on the “About Us” page. 13. Do not use a homepage that just launches the “real” website: the smaller the number of steps required for the user to access your content, the better. 14. Make sure to include contact details: there is nothing worse than a website that has no contact details. This is not bad only for the visitors, but also for yourself. You might lose important feedback along the way. 15. Do not break the “Back” button: this is a very basic principle of usability. Do not break the “Back” button under any circumstance. Opening new browser windows will break it, for instance, and some Javascript links might also break them. 16. Do not use blinking text: unless your visitors are coming straight from 1996, that is. 17. Avoid complex URL structures: a simple, keyword-based URL structure will not only improve your search engine rankings, but it will also make it easier for the reader to identify the content of your pages before visiting them. 18. Use CSS over HTML tables: HTML tables were used to create page layouts. With the advent of CSS, however, there is no reason to stick to them. CSS is faster, more reliable and it offers many more features. 19. Make sure users can search the whole website: there is a reason why search engines revolutionized the Internet. You probably guessed it, because they make it very easy to find the information we are looking for. Do not neglect this on your site. 20. Avoid “drop down” menus: the user should be able to see all the navigation options straight way. Using “drop down” menus might confuse things and hide the information the reader was actually looking for. 21. Use text navigation: text navigation is not only faster but it is also more reliable. Some users, for instance, browse the Internet with images turned off. 22. If you are linking to PDF files disclose it: ever clicked on a link only to see your browser freezing while Acrobat Reader launches to open that (unrequested) PDF file? That is pretty annoying so make sure to explicit links pointing to PDF files so that users can handle them properly. 23. Do not confuse the visitor with many versions: avoid confusing the visitor with too many versions of your website. What bandwidth do I prefer? 56Kbps? 128Kbps? Flash or HTML? Man, just give me the content! 24. Do not blend advertising inside the content: blending advertising like Adsense units inside your content might increase your click-through rate on the short term. Over the long run, however, this will reduce your readership base. An annoyed visitor is a lost visitor. 25. Use a simple navigation structure: sometimes less is more. This rule usually applies to people and choices. Make sure that your website has a single, clear navigation structure. The last thing you want is to confuse the reader regarding where he should go to find the information he is looking for. 26. Avoid “intros”: do not force the user to watch or read something before he can access to the real content. This is plain annoying, and he will stay only if what you have to offer is really unique. 27. Do not use FrontPage: this point extends to other cheap HTML editors. While they appear to make web design easier, the output will be a poorly crafted code, incompatible with different browsers and with several bugs. 28. Make sure your website is cross-browser compatible: not all browsers are created equal, and not all of them interpret CSS and other languages on the same way. Like it or not, you will need to make your website compatible with the most used browsers on the market, else you will lose readers over the long term. 29. Make sure to include anchor text on links: I confess I used to do that mistake until some time ago. It is easier to tell people to “click here”. But this is not efficient. Make sure to include a relevant anchor text on your links. It will ensure that the reader knows where he is going to if he clicks the link, and it will also create SEO benefits for the external site where the link is pointing. 30. Do not cloak links: apart from having a clear anchor text, the user must also be able to see where the link is pointing on the status bar of his browser. If you cloak your links (either because they are affiliate ones or due to other reasons) your site will lose credibility. 31. Make links visible: the visitor should be able to recognize what is clickable and what is not, easily. Make sure that your links have a contrasting color (the standard blue color is the optimal most of the times). Possibly also make them underlined. 32. Do not underline or color normal text: do not underline normal text unless absolutely necessary. Just as users need to recognize links easily, they should not get the idea that something is clickable when in reality it is not. 33. Make clicked links change color: this point is very important for the usability of your website. Clicked links that change color help the user to locate himself more easily around your site, making sure that he will not end up visiting the same pages unintentionally. 34. Do not use animated GIFs: unless you have advertising banners that require animation, avoid animated GIFs. They make a site look unprofessional and detract the attention from the content. 35. Make sure to use the ALT and TITLE attributes for images: apart from having SEO benefits the ALT and TITLE attributes for images will play an important role for blind users. 36. Do not use harsh colors: if the user is getting a headache after visiting your site for 10 consecutive minutes, you probably should pick a better color scheme. Design the color palette around your objectives (i.e. deliver a mood, let the user focus on the content, etc.). 37. Do not use pop ups: this point refers to pop ups of any kind. Even user requested pop ups are a bad idea given the increasing amount of pop blockers out there. 38. Avoid Javascript links: those links execute a small Javascript when the user clicks on them. Stay away from them since they often create problems for the user. 39. Include functional links on your footer: people are used to scrolling down to the footer of a website if they are not finding a specific information. At the very least you want to include a link to the Homepage and possibly a link to the “Contact Us” page. 40. Avoid long pages: guess what, if the user needs to scroll down forever in order to read your content he will probably just skip it altogether. If that is the case with your website make it shorter and improve the navigation structure. 41. No horizontal scrolling: while some vertical scrolling is tolerable, the same can not be said about horizontal scrolling. The most used screen resolution nowadays is 1024 x 768 pixels, so make sure that your website fits inside it. 42. No spelling or grammatical mistakes: this is not a web design mistake, but it is one of the most important factors affecting the overall quality of a website. Make sure that your links and texts do not contain spelling or grammatical mistakes. 43. If you use CAPTCHA make sure the letters are readable: several sites use CAPTCHA filters as a method of reducing spam on comments or on registration forms. There are several lists with “ways to make money with a website” on the Internet, but none of them seem to be complete. That is why I decided to create this one. If you know a method that is not listed below, just let us know and we’ll update it. Notice that ways to make money with a website are different from ways to make more money from it. Methods to increase your traffic or click-through rate will help you make more money, but they do not represent a method of making money per se. For example, one could suggest that blending AdSense ads with the content is a way to make money from a website. In reality it’s not; it’s just a way to make more money by improving your ad click-through rate. The real monetization method behind it is a PPC ad network. The list is divided into direct and indirect methods, and examples and links are provided for each point. Enjoy! Direct Methods 1. PPC Advertising Networks Google AdSense is the most popular option under this category, but there are also others. Basically you need to sign up with the network and paste some code snippets on your website. The network will then serve contextual ads (either text or images) relevant to your website, and you will earn a certain amount of money for every click. The profitability of PPC advertising depends on the general traffic levels of the website and, most importantly, on the click-through rate (CTR) and cost per click (CPC). The CTR depends on the design of the website. Ads placed abode the fold or blended with content, for instance, tend to get higher CTRs. The CPC, on the other hand, depends on the nice of the website. Mortgages, financial products and college education are examples of profitable niches (clicks worth a couple of dollars are not rare), while tech-related topics tend to receive a smaller CPC (sometimes as low as a couple of cents per click). The source of the traffic can also affect the overall CTR rate. Organic traffic (the one that comes from search engines) tends to perform well because these visitors were already looking for something, and they tend to click on ads more often. A blog that generates 100,000 page views monthly displaying an advertising banner with a $1 CPM, therefore, will earn $100 monthly. CPM rates vary with the network, the position of the ad and the format. The better the network, the higher the CPM rate (because they have access to more advertisers). The closer you put the ad to the top of the page, the higher the CPM. The bigger the format (in terms of pixels), the higher the CPM. You can get as low as $0,10 and as high as $10 per 1,000 impressions (more in some special cases). The downside of direct banner advertising is that you need to have a big audience to get qualified advertisers, and you will need to spend time managing the sales process, the banners and the payments. Joining one of these sponsored reviews marketplaces will give you the opportunity to write sponsored posts on a wide range of topics. Not all bloggers are willing to get paid to write about a specific product or website (because it might compromise the editorial credibility), but the ones who do are making good money out of it. If your blog has a big audience you could also offer sponsored reviews directly, cutting off the commissions of the middleman. RSS Feed Ads With the quick adoption of the RSS technology by millions of Internet users, website owners are starting to find ways to monetize this new content distribution channel. Bidvertiser recently introduced a RSS feed ad option as well, with a PPC scheme. Finally, some blogs are also opting to sell banners or sponsored messages on their feed directly. They have several advertising options on the site, including the possibility to sponsor specific columns and articles, including the “Daily Poll” and the “Web 2.0 Invites.” Problogger also runs group writing projects occasionally, and before proceeding he publicly announce the project asking for sponsors. 10.Premium Content Some websites and blogs give away part of their content for free, and charge for access to the premium content and exclusive tools. SEOMoz is a good example. They have a very popular blog that gives advice and information on wide range of SEO related topics. On top of that visitors can decide to become premium members. It costs $48 monthly and it grants them access to guides, tools and other exclusive material. 11. Private Forums While the Internet is populated with free forums, there is also the possibility to create a private one where members need to pay a single or recurring fee to join. SEO Blackhat charges $100 monthly from its members, and they have thousands of them. Obviously in order to charge such a price for a forum membership you need to provide real value for the members (e.g., secret techniques, tools, and so on). Performancing also launched a private forum recently, focused on the networking aspect. It is called The Hive, and the monthly cost is $10. These are just two examples. There are many possibilities to create a private and profitable forum, you just need to find an appealing angle that will make it worth for the members. The advantage of this method is that it is passive. Once you have the structure in place, the job listings will come naturally, and you can charge anywhere from $10 up to $100 for each. Some websites and blogs, however, are trying to replicate that model on a smaller scale. The problem with this method is that there are no standard software on the web, so you would need to hire a coder to get a marketplace integrated into your website. Paid Surveys and Polls There are services that will pay you money to run a small survey or poll on your website. The most popular one is called Vizu Answers. Basically you need to sign up with them, and select the kind of polls that you want to run your site. Most of these services operate under a CPM model. 15. Selling or Renting Internal Pages Million Dollar Wiki made this concept popular, but it was being used on the web for a long time around (check Pagerank10.co.uk for instance). These websites sell for a single fee or rent for a recurring fee internal pages on their domain. Usually they have either high Pagerak or high traffic, so that people purchasing a page will be able to benefit in some way. Implementing this method on a small blog would be difficult, but the concept is interesting and could be explored further. 16. Highlighted Posts from Sponsors Techmeme probably pioneered this idea, but somehow it has not spread to other websites. The tech news aggregator displays editorial posts on the left column, and on the sidebar they have a section titled “Techmeme Sponsor Posts.” On that section posts from the blog of the advertisers get highlighted, sending qualified traffic their way. Considering that the monthly cost for one spot is $5000 and that they have around 6 sponsors at any given time, it must be working well. 17. Donations Placing a “Donate” link or button on a website can be an efficient way to earn money, especially if your blog is on a niche where readers learn and gain value from your content. Personal development and productivity blogs, for instance, tend to perform well with donation based systems (one good example being Steve Pavlina). A small variation of this method appeared sometime ago with the Buy Me a Beer plugin. This WordPress plugin enables you to insert a customized message at the bottom of each article, asking the readers to chip in for a beer or coffee. 18. In-text Adverting In-text adverting networks like Kontera and Vibrant Media will place sponsored links inside your text. These links come with a double underline to differentiate them from normal links, and once the user rolls the mouse over the link the advertising will pop. Should the user click on it the site owner will make some money. Some people make good money with this method, but others refrain from using it due to its intrusiveness. It is also interesting to note that very few mainstream websites have experimented with in-text advertising. 19. Pop-ups and Pop-unders Pop-ups are a common yet annoying form of advertising on the Internet. If you are just trying to make a much money as possible from your website, you could experiment with them. Google’s +1 Button Coming to AdSense

Curious as it sounds, Google announced today that it will be introducing the +1 button (the one you already see on search results and pages around the web) on AdSense units. That’s right, web users will be able to vote up on the ads that are showing. Here’s a quote from the official announcement (you can read the full article here: +1: Now making Display ads more relevant): Starting in October, the +1 button will begin to appear on display ads on your site. With a single click, people will now be able to endorse specific ads and make them more likely to appear to their social connections. We believe that these recommendations could lead your readers to notice ads on your site more, leading to more clicks and higher returns for you over time. For example, take Susan, who sees an ad for a good deal on flights. She +1’s the ad, thinking her friends might value this deal. Now, when Susan’s friends and contacts are signed in to their Google accounts, they’ll be able to see Susan’s picture across the bottom of the ad, with a note saying she +1’d it. The downside is that the ads will look a bit more cluttered now. LG Optimus EX and Samsung E120L for South Korea surface

South Korea is in for a treat as both LG and Samsung are planning to treat their motherland with two new high-end smartphones.

First up is LG with the SU880 Optimus Ex. It has a 1.2GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal memory (expandable), 4-inch WVGA IPS NOVA display, 5 megapixel camera, 1080p video recording, Android 2.3.4 and a 1,500mAh battery.

The Optimus Ex weighs 127g and is only 9.65mm thick. It will be sold in two colors: black/silver and white/champagne gold, on the SK Telecom network in Korea. No pricing or release date is known at the moment.

If you think that's good then you will love what Samsung has to offer. The SHV-E120L will have a massive 4.7-inch display with 1280 x 720 resolution, 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal memory, 8 megapixel rear camera, 2 megapixel front camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC.

Now there may be some concerns about the usability of a phone with a 4.7-inch display that's even bigger than the one on the similarly specced LG LU6200 but you can't deny it's one hell of a device. This one's supposed to hit Korea in October but sadly there is no information about it's international availability.

Czech electric scooter company covers 706 miles in 24-hours, claims world record

A "racing" team for the Czech electric scooter company Akumoto, with the assistance of the energy conglomerate ČEZ , is claiming the world record for longest distance traveled by such a vehicle in 24-hours -- 706.1 miles. Over the course of the 1,136.3 kilometer trip, the slightly modified scooter used a grand total of 40.8 kWh of electricity, which costs a measly 190 Czech Korunas (about $10.35). Akumoto already has a network of charging stations across the Eastern European country, but there was no stopping to juice up. Instead pre-charged batteries were swapped in when the "tank" was empty. Samsung opens 'most advanced' 20nm-class flash memory production line

Samsung's "20nm-class" designations for flash memory production are frustratingly nonspecific, but smallest processes or not it's ready to crank out more chips than ever. Reuters reports the electronics giant just flipped the switch on its first new production line in five years, one that it's calling "the industry's largest and most advanced memory fabrication facility." It could take up to nine months to get fully up to speed, but the increased production and reduced costs should keep the competition coming Samsung's way for storage no matter what their current legal situation.

The cause of death was Nasopharyngeal cancer. Camille and Anthony was first married in Los Angeles, California on January 5, 2008. Their church wedding was held on March 5, 2010. They have a son named Nathaniel Caesar.

Hewlett-Packard replaces Leo Apotheker with Meg Whitman

Leo Apotheker has been replaced as chief executive of Hewlett-Packard by Meg Whitman, the former head of eBay.

Mr Apotheker was in the job less than a year, but had overseen a collapse in the share price and a fall in sales.

Ms Whitman, who once ran for governor of California, resigned from eBay in 2008 and is credited with building it into a global force.

HP announced the departure after board meeting on Thursday, but there had been speculation for days about his future.

In a statement, Ray Lane, who was named executive chairman, said: "We are fortunate to have someone of Meg Whitman's calibre and experience step up to lead HP.

"We are at a critical moment and we need renewed leadership to successfully implement our strategy and take advantage of the market opportunities ahead."

Ms Whitman said in a statement: "I am honoured and excited to lead HP. I believe HP matters - it matters to Silicon Valley, California, the country and the world."

It would be the second time in two years Mr Apotheker has been forced out of a top job. He stood down from German business software maker SAP last year, after less than a year as chief executive.

He took over HP after the departure of former boss Mark Hurd, who quit after a sexual harassment investigation.

The new chief replaced a third of the HP board, brought in Ms Whitman, announced plans to sell the personal computer division - the world's largest - and bought UK software maker Autonomy for £7.1bn ($11.7bn).

But his strategy has failed to impress investors. HP's shares have fallen 45.4% this year, making it one of the worst performers in the Dow Jones index of leading US companies.

Facebook focuses on media sharing and adds timeline

Facebook has outlined plans to encourage users to share more of the media they consume - including music and movies - with friends.

Its founder Mark Zuckerberg also unveiled a dramatic redesign to the website, replacing user profiles with an audio visual timeline of their life.

The updates were revealed at Facebook's annual F8 developer conference.

A wave of new features in recent weeks have been welcomed by some users and caused annoyance to many others.

Facebook's latest changes point to a desire to keep users engaged through new features, in the midst of rapid innovation from social networking rivals.

Depending on privacy settings, users will be able to see what friends are doing - for example, playing a song - then listen-in themselves.

Mr Zuckerberg said he wanted to create, what he called, "real time serendipity".

"Being able to click on someone's music is a great experience, but knowing you helped a friend discover something new and they liked your taste in music, and that you now have that in common is awesome," he added.

Facebook said that users would only be able to do as much on the site as its media partners allowed in each country, so free music sharing through streaming apps would only work where that service was already available outside Facebook.

Alongside the deeper integration of media content, the restyling of Facebook's profile pages is also likely to prove a hot topic among users.

The most radical departure so far from the site's well known profile format will doubtless prove contentious with its sometimes conservative members.

Identities will now be defined through a densely packed vertical timeline of major life events, made up of photos, videos and other items. The level of detail diminishes the further down a reader scrolls.

Profile pages had previously been limited to basic information along with a stream of every single item posted by a user.

The latest offering is significantly different to those of Facebook's biggest social networking rivals, Google+ and Twitter, and more closely resembles the once-popular site Myspace.

"Facebook is positioning itself as not just your social graph online, but your life online," Forrester Research analyst Sean Corcoran told the Associated Press.

"These changes not only help trump rival Google but will open up new opportunities," he said. "But concerns around privacy and immaturity in how to do these things effectively will make it a slow go."

Facebook stressed that all of its new offerings could be controlled by members using its recently simplified privacy controls.

In particular, it stressed that timeline items could be modified within the new "activity log", allowing users to limit who can view certain events from their past.

The updates are expected to start appearing on users' computers in coming weeks.

VIA Technologies sues Apple for patent infringement

Seems like we can't go a week without another patent infringement lawsuit being filed, and this one's no different. Apparently, VIA Technologies, maker of fine computational processors, is mad as hell with Apple's allegedly infringing ways, and it's not gonna take it anymore. Filed in the US District Court in Delaware, VIA claims that Cupertino's iThings and Apple TVs infringe patent numbers 6,253,312, 6,253,311 and 6,754,810, which cover various microprocessor functions. A complaint's also been lodged with the ITC -- in order to hasten the settlement talks, no doubt. So, all that's left is the countdown until these two shake hands, exchange checks and go on about their business... preferably outside the courtroom.

AMA cries foul over NBI raid

AMA Computer College yesterday tagged the NBI-Intellectual Property Rights Division (NBI-IPRD) and the Business Software Alliance (BSA) as behind the raid of its Makati campus on Tuesday on suspicion it is using unauthorized software.

"Issues on the alleged ‘unauthorized software’ are without basis considering that these are software that can be downloaded through the Internet by any student using the Internet laboratory, operating similar to any internet café," the AMA statement said.

Angel Enrico Mira, AMA corporate secretary, identified Martin L. San Pedro, as the NBI asset who "planted" evidence in the Makati campus’ computer laboratories.

"Pinapa-imbestigahan na namin itong si Martin San Pedro pero initial checks showed the address he used when he enrolled last July was fictitious," Mira said.

Mira said the evidence was cited in the search warrant issued by Manila Judge Marino dela Cruz and served by the joint NBI-IPRD and BSA team that raided the Makati campus.

The raiding team confiscated some P10 million worth of fake software and 59 central processing units (CPUs) worth P1.2 million.

The computers were taken from Laboratory Nos. 3 and 4 located on the 2nd floor and Laboratory No. 5 on the 3rd floor of AMA Computer College located at 5486 South Superhighway, Makati.

Mira said Jean Abigail Ponce of BSA and an attorney Poblador refused to accept their explanation and "coerced the company to purchase additional licenses from them amounting to around P100 million."

"These representatives in the presence of NBI agents also declared that our company has to pay NBI agents 20 percent of whatever settlement we can arrive at. These acts are tantamount to illegal marketing," the AMA statement said.

Autodesk Systems Inc. and Adobe Systems Inc., through Federis and Associates Law Offices, alleged that the AMA Makati campus uses pirated software in its computer laboratories.

Rommel Vallejo, head of the NBI-Intellectual Property Rights Division, in an interview, belied AMA’s claims that they were conniving with the complainants, Autodesk Systems, Adobe CS2, Adobe Premier CS2, Adobe ReaderX, Adobe Premier Pro 2.0 and Macromedia Dreamweaver.

Vallejo said the NBI has no agent or employee by the name of Martin L. San Pedro.

He claimed that the raid was a legitimate operation borne out of several weeks of surveillance brought about by numerous complaints that AMA-Makati campus was using fake and unlicensed software.

MANILA, Philippines – A raid was conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation-Intellectual Property Rights Division (NBI-IPRD) on Tuesday at the AMA Computer College, Inc. located beside the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX)

The raid was performed as NBI’s respond to the allegations, telling that the school utilizes some pirated software in its computer laboratories.

Officials of NBI obtained the hint based on the accusations of Autodesk Systems, Inc. and Adobe Systems, Inc., through Federis and Associates Law Offices against the school on illegal use of computer applications.

Approximately 30 computers were confiscated by the authorities during the incursion.

Because of this, the school will face charges for violating a law under Republic Act 8293 (Intellectual Property Code), also known as copyright infringement law.

But the school’s management denied the allegations that they are using pirated software.

It has “always been compliant with all the IP laws relating to computer software licenses.”

Among the alleged pirated software the school is using are those owned by Autodesk Systems like AutoCAD software (typically used in computer engineering) and some software patented by Adobe (used in computer graphics/website designing) like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe CS2, Adobe Premier CS2, Adobe ReaderX, Adobe Premier Pro 2.0 and Macromedia Dreamweaver.
