Your parents have no clue why they call Tom Wallisch the "Pretzel King", they have never seen an "I Ride Park City" episode and the thought of spending all day with them on the mountain is probably horrifying. So rather than spending all week trying to convince your parents to let you go in the terrain park alone, get them to send you to camp!

"I Ride Park City" Freestyle Camp is a three-day camp for kids ages 9-15 who are intermediate skiers and snowboarders. You will learn new tricks in the park and pipe, improve your freeriding skills AND film with a GoPro and learn to edit a video in our editing lab.

I have taken part in multiple camps over the course of my snowboard career and can say first hand that these experiences were priceless. Being matched with a small group (5 to 1) of your same skill level, helps instill confidence and creates a support group cheering you on to success. Many times a kid will choose a ski or snowboard camp because they gain access to private features, built just for their level. Let's face it, Park City's terrain parks have some of the best athletes in the world skiing and riding through on a daily basis, and this can be intimidating for some. In the "I Ride Park City" Freestyle camp whether you are hitting your first jump, airing out of the Eagle Superpipe, mastering a 540 or just riding the mountain, we will find a group that's right for you.

You might be wondering what sets the camp apart from a freestyle lesson? During the course of the camp, you will be with the same coach and same group for all three days. At the end of camp you'll get a pizza party at PayDay pizza where awards will be handed out, games and more top-secret kids only stuff. Throught the camp you will film with GoPro's (with the help of coaches) and learn how to edit together a simple video to share with friends on Facebook and YouTube. The editing process will give coaches a chance to do video analysis. Sometimes seeing your mistake on the big screen is the best way to fix it.

The "I Ride Park City" Freestyle Camp has 5 sessions to choose from:

Presidents week, Wednesday to Friday, February 22 to 24
Spring breaks, Tuesday to Thursday, March 13 to 15, March 20 to 22, March 27 to 29, April 3 to 5

You can purchase the camp with lift tickets or for those who already have a season pass, without. So get your parents to send you to the "I Ride Park City" Freestyle Camp this Winter!

Park City All Star Tom Wallisch is unstoppable right now and we couldn't be happier for one of our own. When Tom isn't traveling and winning gold medals, you can find him in 3 Kings terrain park. This season he has won slopestyle gold at both Dew Tour stops (Breckenridge and Killington). Just this weekend he won X Games gold in slopestyle in what is being called one of the most exciting finals in slopestyle history. Tom Wallisch earned a score of 96.0 on his final run, giving him the highest score in Winter X Ski Slopestyle history. If you missed it, you can watch his run in the video below, courtesy of espn.com.

Mr. Wallisch is also adored by his fans, as seen by winning the top spot in Powder Magazine's Reader Poll at the Powder Awards this weekend. Next time you see Tom lapping the park, make sure you give him a high five. Keep up the good work Tom!

Seriously, no King’s Crown? We know, it’s hard to hear and it wasn’t an easy decision, nor was it made light heartedly. In full transparency, we want to give you guys the reasons this decision was made:

•

We all know snow has been a little light this year.

•

Lower than average snowfall has required higher than average snowmaking around the resort, we’ve made more snow this year than we can remember making (to the tune of 40% more than last year).

•

The snowmaking teams have been working around the clock since early November, and they still have work to do.

•

Building out King’s Crown to where it needs to be will take an additional 200 hours of snowmaking, looking at long-range forecasts combined with the remaining work the snowmaking team has means we’d be at a mid-February time frame before we even have enough snow in the Crown to start pushing. After the snow is made, the cat guys would still have to get out there and start pushing, which would take another two weeks.

What does that mean? It would be well into March before the Crown was open to the public. Looking at a March opening for a larger jump line, isn’t really ok. After looking at this for a while we’ve decided to go with Plan B. Plan B is to put the snowmaking guns back on Quicksilver pronto! 50 hours of additional snowmaking on Quicksilver will give us a larger jump line in just a few weeks.

We know, we know, it’s not what you want to hear. We will do all we can to continue to knock it out of the park in 3 Kings. Next season, we plan to bring King’s Crown back and better than ever.

Try before you buy. While many of you might not abide by that motto when it comes to clothes, if you get the chance, you should definitely do this with snowboards. The Burton Mountain Festival is here at Park City Mountain Resort through Sunday, January 22. They have brought their entire line of 2012 gear. This includes boots, boards and bindings, men, women, young and old. Burton brought everything from Learn to Ride Boards to top of the line pow boards.

All you need is a credit card (to hold a deposit), drivers licensce and a parent if you are under 18. You can try as many boards as you want, come back all day long and switch them out. The tents are open from 9-4.

Stick around the sponsor village and after party for an abundance of giveaways, games and other cool things.

Guest post by Kara Rennie

Last years Friday Night Live rail contest series raised some debate as to which resort in Utah has the best rail slayers in the state. Thus, the creation of the Friday Night Jib Fights. The series has expanded to nine events, three at each Park City, Brighton and Snowbasin. The finals will be held at Park City on March 30 with the podium riders from each stop invited for double the prize purse and an overall winner of the series.

The first stop went off at Snowbasin and will now be moving to 3 Kings Terrain Park at Park City for the second stop on January 6, 2012. This years set up will be designed and built by the PCMR Terrain Park staff to include two lines of 3 features each as well as a bottom feature to total 7 features.

I can't say how it was for the spectators at last years events, but as a competitor the vibe was much different from the day. Hiking the rails kept us warm and although I didn't know many people, It felt like I was hiking with my friends and we were all pushing eachother to try new tricks. The fact that it was at night made everyone stoked on something new. Announcers Pops and Tron bring some entertainment on the mic to contribute to the already amazing vibe. Last years night riding contest brought a number of skiers and snowboarders who threw down and raised the level of progression.

Cash and prizes will be distributed between the top 3 athletes from each category of AM or Open, girls and guys, skiers and snowboarders as well as a product toss for everybody. Registration starts at 4:00 pm at the bottom of 3 Kings, cost is $15 per event and the show starts off with AM riders at 5:30 followed by Open riders at 6:00 pm.

There's one more present waiting under your tree this year and its from Park City Mountain Resort. Starting Christmas Day, we will be open for night riding until 9 p.m. everyday. PayDay, First Time and 3 Kings lifts will be turning and Cobra Dogs will be open to feed you late night. Night riding is included in an "All Day" ticket, or you have the option of purchasing a "Twilight" ticket that allows lift access from 12:30 p.m. - 9 p.m. or a "Night" ticket that allows lift access from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. If you already have a season pass and want to add the night skiing/riding option, you can visit the Resort Services office and purchase this option.

Don't forget, we opened Motherlode lift yesterday giving access to Carbide Cut and Sunnyside runs. We also dropped the rope on The Ridge terrain park and fired up Eaglet lift.

We wish you the happiest of holidays!

Everybody loves The Ridge. Fact. A line formed at Eagle chairlift this morning in anticipation of getting first chair on Eaglet and first drop in The Ridge. What makes The Ridge so special? We'll let Alex Schlopy break it down.

"The Ridge, which is a progression park (that might be the most fun mini park on the planet), is located on King Con Ridge with some serious views of Park City, and includes a range of pint-size features from ride-on boxes to 10 foot tables."

-Alex Schlopy

This park is on point for anyone wanting to start on smaller features, or learn new skills with out breaking themselves off. There are four baby/girlfriend jumps on the right and a three jumpline on the left, ranging from 10-20 feet. Then you have 7 jib features to choose from before making another hot lap. Have fun out there and Happy Holidays!

Skiers and riders aross the country can rejoice because the 22-foot Eagle Superpipe is officially open for the 2011-2012 winter. Be prepared to see some of the biggest names in action sports, including Park City All Stars Kazu Kokubo, Torah Bright, Joss Christensen and Tanner Hall training in the pipe this season.

“This is one of earliest dates that we’ve opened the superpipe with perfect timing right before the holiday season,” said Jeremy Cooper, terrain park manager at Park City Mountain Resort. “Obviously the dirtwork we did this past summer gave us a good jumpstart, however the hard work of our talented snowmakers, groomers and pipe cutter is what creates a pipe that lives up to its reputation as one of the best in the world.”

If you are unable to get to the mountain, you can watch all the Superpipe action live 24/7 via the Resort’s “Cobra Cam,” located at Cobra Dogs at the base of the Eagle Superpipe and 3 Kings Terrain Park.
