Important notes

Some PC processors and hardware configurations aren’t supported by Insider Preview, including a small number of older, 64-bit CPUs, and some 32 GB and all 16 GB devices running a compressed operating system.
To access the Windows Store and to download and run apps, you need an Internet connection, a screen resolution of at least 1024 x 768, and a Microsoft account.
The Windows Store in Insider Preview will have many (but not all) Windows 8.1 apps available. (Apps for Windows 10 Insider Preview will not be available for PCs running Windows 8.1 or Windows 8.) Keep in mind that if you install the preview but then decide to go back to Windows 8.1 or Windows 8, you might have to reinstall your apps from Windows Store.
Cortana is currently only available in English (United States), English (United Kingdom), Chinese (Simplified), German (Germany), French (France), Italian, and Spanish (Spain). To be able to use Cortana, the country or region for your system must be set to one of the available languages, and you also need to have installed that language's version of Insider Preview.
After you install the preview, you won't be able to play DVDs using Windows Media Player.

If you have Windows 8 Pro with Media Center and you install the preview, Windows Media Center will be removed.
The preview won’t work on Windows RT 8.1 editions.
There is no N edition of Insider Preview, so if you upgrade to Insider Preview from an N edition of Windows, you will no longer be running an N edition.

- If you're running Windows 8.1, Windows 8, or Windows 7 and your system language isn't one of the available languages listed previously, you can only keep your personal files when you upgrade. You won't be able to keep your apps or Windows settings.
- If you installed the preview when it was first avaialble in English, Chinese (Simplified), or Portuguese (Brazilian), and you now want to switch to one of the additional available languages, you'll need to download an ISO file to reinstall the preview in one of those languages.
- Some text in the preview will not yet have been translated into all available languages and will only appear in English. This text will be translated into all available languages by the time the final product is available for purchase. In addition, some translated text might appear as unfinished or inaccurate. This text will be refined and finalized before the final product is released.
- If you're running Windows 8.1, Windows 8, or Windows 7 and have installed a language pack or a language interface pack (LIP), they'll be removed when you install Insider Preview.

Having trouble in creating a bootable usb for linux distro ? It won’t be a problem anymore. Be it Mint, Ubuntu, Debian or any other Linux Operating system, creating a bootable Linux usb made as easy as folding a paper.

No need of DVDs anymore, as you can easily create bootable Linux usb by yourself and install or run live from it. I will teach you with a simple method to create bootable USB for Linux with LiLi USB creator (Linux Live USB creator).
Note: This methods works for almost all Linux distros.

Step – A
Download Linux Live USB creator and install it. Connect your USB drive to the computer.
Step – B
Now you will see a good looking application running on your screen. As you can see “Step 1″ named box at the top. Select the appropriate drive. In the picture below, I have selected “UUI” named drive, which is my USB drive.

Step – C
Choose a source for your Linux ISO. You get three options. First being via ISO/IMG/Zip files from your hard-disk, second being loading it from CD.

Third being the most interesting one – Downloading directly from Internet Automatically.
Or Manually, which is a pretty good thing if a user is not able to find download links online, just you have to select the Linux from the drop-down list and it will give you option to download via your browser or any other download manager.

Note: This step is optional and only used if you going to use Linux as Live USB.
Select the persistent size to at-least 1.5gb if you want to install some extra applications on your Live Linux and want more space to store your Internet downloads. Then you will be prompted for your architecture. I’m going to select the 64 Bit version, in most cases the 64 Bit version should be selected. The 32 Bit version should only be used for legacy applications and on new hardware this is better done in a Virtual Machine.

When you have selected your 3 desired options select next:

MacBook Pro 2013 Review: Haswell-Powered Laptop By Apple With Core i5 Processor & 11-Hour Battery Life Renders Speedy Performance For Users

MacBook Pro 2013 review: The highly anticipated MacBook Pro 2013 with Retina display comes with iLife and iWorks and two Thunderbolt ports, plus a higher than 1080P HD screen. But what would impress the future user with this new model is not only the longer battery life thanks to the upgraded Haswell chipset it possesses, but that it also is one speedy machine.

According to PC Mag’s Joel Santo Domingo, the MacBook Pro 2013 uses Intel’s Haswell-based Core i5 processors, which gives future power users a system that could last up to 12 hours which continuous use. The MacBook Pro just weighs over three pounds and can still process graphics and scientific tasks quickly, noted the PC Mag reviewer.

Priced at $1,299 from Apple’s online store, the new MacBook is 0.04 inches thinner than its predecessor. The aluminum and glass system has become a smidge lighter at the new weight of 3.37 pounds, .20 pounds less than its previous version. PCMag noted that the backlit chiclet stle keyboard is comfortable to use and is as wide as the multi-touch trackpad.

Under the hood, the MacBook Pro has a 2.4GHz Intel Core i5-4258U processor, Intel Iris 5100 graphics, 8GB of memory and a 256GB Flash Storage module. In a performance tests done by PCMag, the MacBook Pro 2013 was able to complete the Handbrake test in a short 1 minute 9 seconds and the Photoshop CS6 test in 4:27.

Comparing it with other high-end laptops, the Sony VAIO Pro 13 has a Handbrake of 1:34 with its CS6 at 5:07; Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus’ Handbrake and CS6 test were 1:23 and 5:51 respectively and systems like the Acer S7-392-6411 has a 1:01 Handbrake and 6:01 CS6 test. Acer was the only one that was able to bit the new MacBook Pro 2013’s Handbrake by eight seconds but still lagged behind the CS6.

As expected, the new MacBook Pro 2013 is faster than its previous models and does have the specs that will allow it to become one of the best laptops in the market today

Five Tips for Getting Started With Windows 8.1

Change is always hard. We get accustomed to doing things one way, and when something comes along to mess that up, our natural reaction is to revolt.

It’s no surprise, then, that Microsoft didn’t get the warmest reception when it releasedWindows 8 last year. Designed to be an all-in-one operating system for both PCs and tablets, Windows 8 was a stark departure from previous versions of the OS, and required a steep learning curve that involved juggling between two interfaces and giving up some familiar favorites like the Start button, among other things.

To address some of those issues, last month Microsoft released Windows 8.1. The update brings a series of tweaks and new features that generally make the OS better — though, if you found Windows 8 confusing, you still will in this new version. But, since this is the future of Windows-based machines, it might be time to learn some of the ins and outs of the OS. To help you out, I’ve outlined some tips for using Windows 8.1.One note before getting started: Windows 8.1 is available as a free download to Windows 8 users. Those with older versions of Windows will have to pay $120 to upgrade, and their machines have to meet the minimum system requirements. If you fall into the latter group, it might be better to hold off until you need to upgrade your hardware.

MAKE IT PERSONAL
When you first boot up Windows 8.1, you won’t notice a huge difference between the latest update and Windows 8. You still get the tile-based Start screen, but it’s a lot more customizable than the previous version.

For example, you can now change the background image by accessing the Charms menu (to do so, swipe in from the right side of the screen, or point to the lower- or upper-right corner if you’re using a mouse), selecting Settings, and then Personalize. Meanwhile, right-clicking or doing a long-press on a tile brings up options to resize it (large, wide, medium or small), remove it from the Start screen, and more.

A quick swipe up from the bottom of the screen (or clicking on the down arrow in the bottom-left if you’re using a mouse) also brings up a view of all your Apps. You can make this your default Start screen by swiping in from the right side of the screen, selecting Search, and then typing “Taskbar.” From there, select the Navigation tab, and then check the box that says, “Show the Apps view automatically when I go to Start.”

For those who aren’t ready let go of the past just yet, Windows 8.1 now gives you an option to boot directly to traditional desktop mode. The setting is hard to find, though, so be sure to check out my colleague Walt Mossberg’s explainer on how to enable that feature.

A NEW START (SORT OF)

One of the more welcome features is the return of the Start button.

When you switch to desktop mode, you’ll find it in the bottom-left-hand corner, but it doesn’t function in exactly the same way as before. Tapping or clicking will simply return you to the modern tile-based Start screen, rather than launching the traditional Start menu.

If you right-click on it or do a long press, however, you’ll get a pop-up window that provides access to tools like the control panel, task manager and shutdown/restart. There are also other utilities, including Programs and Features, where you can uninstall or change desktop apps and Power Options for customizing your battery settings.

MULTITASKING USING SNAP VIEW

Windows 8 already offered a function called Snap View that allowed you to view two apps at once, but the screen was split so that one app took up a majority of the room, while the other only took up about a third of screen space. This made it difficult to see or interact with anything in the smaller window. But with Windows 8.1, you can now split the screen to your liking.

To begin, start by opening an app from the Start screen or the Apps-view screen. Next, slide your finger from the top of the screen down to about the middle of the display, or until the app window shrinks. Then move the app to either the left or right side of the screen.

Afterward, you can return to the Start or Apps screen to open your second app, and it will automatically appear next to the first app. By default, Snap View splits the screen in half, but you can change that by dragging the black bar that separates the two apps to the right or the left.

Depending on your screen’s resolution, you can have up to four apps open at once.

CHANGING DEFAULT APPS

Naturally, Microsoft would love for you to use its native apps (Internet Explorer, Xbox Music, and so forth) for all your tasks, but if you have a preference for a certain Web browser, email client or mapping app, Windows 8.1 will allow you to set them as your default.

To do so, open the Charms menu, select Settings, and then Change PC Settings. Next, click on Search and Apps, and choose Defaults at the bottom of the list. Here you can select which apps you would like to use for Web browsing, email, music, video, photos, calendar and maps.

TURN A WEBSITE INTO AN XBOX MUSIC PLAYLIST

I thought I’d end with a fun one. Windows 8.1 offers a pretty nifty feature that allows you to create a playlist in Microsoft’s music app, Xbox Music, based on a website. Yes, you read right — a website.

Just visit any page that talks about music or musicians (for example, I went to hip-hop site Okayplayer.com), open the Charms menu, select Share, and then Music. After a couple of minutes, you’ll see a playlist created based on artists or songs mentioned on the website. Give the playlist a name and tap Create Playlist, and the next time you open Xbox Music, you’ll find it saved under the playlist section.

Windows 8.1 might still have some fundamental problems — it’s still very much geared for touch devices, and the number of Windows 8 apps needs to grow — but the update brings some nice improvements. And if you plan on continuing to live in a Windows world, you will need to learn the new OS at some point, so you might as well start now.
