I drew this at the International Conference on Program Comprehension (ICPC) 2011, which took place last week in Kingston. Some people go to conferences to learn about what other people in the field are working on. I draw comics.

What’s this? An update? A new art style? You can’t handle all this? Well, sit down because that’s not all. I’m currently working on a secret project that I’m not ready to share yet. But soon… soon.

The Canadian political leaders debate was on tonight and this was what I saw. Except with more finger pointing and a few zingers.

If the joke sounds familiar it’s probably because Futurama did something very similar that heavily inspired me, where two cloned presidential candidates, John Jackson and Jack Johnson, debate (audio available here):

John Jackson: “It’s time someone had the courage to stand up and say: I’m against those things that everybody hates.”
Jack Johnson: “Now, I respect my opponent. I think he’s a good man. But quite frankly, I agree with everything he just said.”
John Jackson: “I say your three cent titanium tax goes too far.”
Jack Johnson: “And I say your three cent titanium tax doesn’t go too far enough.”

I promised myself I would update one a week for an entire year and I did. Now that that’s done, I’ve decided to take it easy. That doesn’t mean that I won’t be back. I assure you that I fully intend on making more. It just means that I have decided to scale back a weekly schedule to a “whenever I feel like it” schedule. The banner will be updated accordingly soon. I hope that this will result in more high quality comics than I was churning out sometimes last year. I also want to experiment with a new and possibly sillier art style.

So yeah. I based the depiction of my dad on Professor Layton. Sue me (Nintendo, if you’re reading this, please don’t sue me). I wanted to make him look British so that the dialogue sounded appropriate. And when I think of classic British figures, it’s either Professor Layton or Henry Hatsworth (a truly underrated game), but I somehow feel like Henry Hatsworth wouldn’t be able to reach the pedals.

In other news, I have decided to take most of the month of December off. I intend to use that time to try out a couple of things and maybe build a buffer. So expect a few surprises in the new year. I do, however, plan on doing a Christmas comic in a week or two, so check back before Christmas.

This idea seemed funnier earlier today, but now I’m not so sure. Oh well…

If you’re wondering why my friend Eric’s eye is red, it’s because he recently had surgery to replace his right eye with a super bionic eye with x-ray vision. It won’t help him cheat in cards though because, as you can imagine from the comic, he would probably think your 2′s were 5′s or something just as ridiculous.

I’ve definitely seen my fair share of horrible PowerPoint presentations. I’m not gonna name names (mainly because I don’t remember who made them), but I have. In fact, I saw a few a couple weeks ago at a conference which is what sparked this idea. I was gonna do it last week but decided to do Bad TV Week first to make up for the lost week.

So there isn’t really anything on TV on Friday nights for me to make fun of. But I know that FOX sometimes airs episodes of House, so there’s that…

I’ve actually never watched House, but I’ve seen many previews for it. I hear it’s pretty popular.

So, has anyone noticed that I’ve been ripping off shows that air on the night of the update? I’m just not sure what to do for tomorrow. Fridays are a TV graveyard.

Personally, I think Modern Family is overrated. Not bad – just overrated. Of the ABC Wednesday night comedies, I prefer Cougar Town (which is actually nothing like what the name suggests).

The real joke is that the show on which this is based is already bad. So I guess this is a Bad Bad TV Show.
