Golden Girls star Rue McClanahan underwent open heart surgery this past week on Tuesday. The former star of the 80’s hit show, that ran for seven years, is said to be doing excellent.

McClanahan, who played the feisty Blanche Devereaux for years, underwent surgery in a New York hospital after discovering heart problems at a previous doctors appointment for her knee. She is said to be doing “very, very well.”

Rue recently released a statement about her boring recovery! A survivor of breast cancer as well, the seventy-five year old just wants to get back to work on her current tribute at the Castro Theatre in San Fransico.

“Unfortunately, my doctor has laid down the law, and I’m currently in the hospital having some maintenance on the old ticker,” she said. “Trust me, I’d much rather be in San Francisco having fun and being adored by all of you.”

A close firend of the longtime actress also released a statement saying that “She’s going to be great and up and entertaining us all very shortly.”

A Christmas Carol, with Jim Carrey as Scrooge, was produced by Robert Zemeckis, the creative mind behind the Polar Express and Beowulf, with the help of Steve Starkey and Jack Rapke.

The movie is sure to have both kids and their parents running to theaters this Christmas season. Aside from Jim Carrey, who is responsible for the voices of not only Ebenezer Scrooge but the Ghosts of Christmas past, present and the future, also stars Gary Oldman.

Oldman has taken on the roles of Tiny Tim, Cratchit and Jacob Marley. Also featured in the animated masterpiece is actress Robin Wright Penn and Bob Hoskins.

On top of the creative character line-up there is much talk about Zemeckis, “a whiz kid with special effects.” The brilliance in which he brings the old story to life has already been praised by his peers.

“It was the idea of being able to actually recreate London and not have any limitations whatsoever. Anything that existed at the time we could present,” Zemeckis said. “Then the idea that Jim could play Scrooge in all the different ages, and the ghosts, they could be his alter-ego, and he could play those. Everything just fell into place.”

Her other acting credits on both the bi and small screen are Live Free or Die Hard, Reign Over Me, New York City Serenade and the upcoming movies Blood Shot and The People I’ve Slept With. Diana Gettinger’s television credits are The Riches, Entourage as Carol and Close To Home.

Mischa Barton’s friends left a party-goer at the New York Park Bar this past Saturday with “a gash to his head and his knee was all cut up”.

Mischa Barton, Party Girl of the Halloween circuit, was not only avoiding her ex-boyfriend Brandon Davis but throwing drinks in a heated catfight!

“They saw each other and then spent the whole night on opposite ends of the party. They didn’t seem interested in saying hello, and Mischa appeared a little wobbly,” stated an unknown onlooker.

Barton reportedly stepped on a man’s foot as she was passing by. After becoming angry he decided to get even with a nice cool drink thrown her way. Mischa responded with the same before getting her male friends to take care of him on the dance floor!

“The next thing I knew he threw his drink over her back and she turned around and asked him: ‘Did you just throw a drink over me? The man responded that the drink was in retaliation for Mischa stepping on his shoe and she threw one of her drinks in his face.”

Brunette beauty and wife to Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, will step in as Laura in the forthcoming independant movie ‘The Romantics’. Previously cast in the role, before stepping down, was Liv Tyler.

On top of taking a role in The Romantics, Katie Holmes will also be executive producing the project (for the first time) that is based on a novel , of the same name, by Galt Niederhoffer. The author has penned the movie’s script which revolves around a group of eight friends who reunite years later to attend the wedding of their friend. The Romantics will reportedly begin shooting sometime in mid November of this year in New York.

As mentioned above, Holmes has taken the role of Laura, the maid of honor who has been up close and personal with the groom! Set to play the bride is actress Anna Paquin of True Blood fame. Also part of the cast is Josh Duhamel as the groom, Adam Brody (The O.C.’s nerdy Seth Cohen), Malin Akerman, Jeremy Strong and Elijah Wood. Pretty good mix!

The Swine flu now has many stepping back to reconsider ways to avoid those germs and stay healthy! From public restrooms to movie theaters, individuals are more self conscious about what they are encountering over the course of the day.

Taking precautions in bathrooms, on the subway, the office and the gym aren’t enough anymore. So with that we have brought you the thought of Swine flu etiquette in movie theaters. I have to say, I forgot about movie theaters!

“As a society we’re saying that for our safety we need to change basic social interaction. How many more people we have pinging around the world, exchanging germs, this could be the beginning of a huge social shift,” stated Anna Post of the The Emily Post Institute.

Definitely a place where the sick would go to break up a monotonous day while awaiting their contagious period to be officially over! And so on to the etiquette part, besides the usual ban of cell phones, text messaging and other disruptive behaviors the theaters bring now a days.

The swine flu etiquette is common sense and caution. Like anything else, don’t go to the movies if you are sick, avoid shaking hands after a run in with an acquaintance, wash your hands and beware of those obvious germ carrying hot spots! Although that could be hard to do if you have to avoid inanimate objects, like movie theater seats and arm rests!

“The virus is mainly spread the respiratory route, and it’s also on inanimate objects like doors and knobs and handles and desktops and telephones,” added Dr. Stuart Beeber, attending pediatrician at Northern Westchester Hospital Center, in Mount Kisco, N.Y. “It’s mainly in close quarters where a lot of people are together, such as in classrooms or offices, potentially even movie theaters.”

Actor Sir Anthony Hopkins will play Thor’s Father, Odin, in the upcoming Marvel comics picture. Cast in the role of Thor is Australian Chris Hemsworth from Star Trek and the forthcoming Red Dawn.

The news regarding Sir Anthony Hopkins addition to the cast of Thor, in the role of Odin, came by way of The Hollywood Reporter. Previously rumored to play Odin was actor Brian Blessed. Now Anthony Hopkins will play the ruler of Asgard and Thor’s father.

Thor will begin filming in January of 2010 and is scheduled to hit theaters in May of 2011. Cast alongside Hemsworth and Hopkins is Natalie Portman. The actress will step in as Jane Foster. Actor Tom Hiddleston has been cast as Loki, while actress Jaimie Alexander is Sif.

Ryan Kwanten, who currently plays Jason Stackhouse on HBO’s vampire hit True Blood, has signed on to star in Leon Ford’s directing debut film ‘Griff The Invisible’.

From vampires to superheroes, Ryan Kwanten will co-star alongside actress Maeve Dermody. As per Everyday Pictures, Griff The Invisible is about:

“a simple man, in a simple job, living a simple life. Or so it seems….What his co-workers don’t know is that Griff is not who he seems to be. At the end of each day,when everyone else goes home, Griff disappears into a starkly different world. A world where nothing is safe, where the person next to you could be your mortal enemy. Griff is a secret agent and part-time super hero. At least that’s what he thinks he is.

Set to produce the movie will be Nicole O’Donohue, Jan Chapman and Scott Meek. Griff The Invisible will be filmed in Sydney, Australia while Kwanten is on break from the set of True Blood.

“Griff the Invisible is a thrilling love story that doesn’t fit the mould, about two people who don’t fit in. Set in a world half real and half imagined, it’s a story about being yourself, when everything around you demands conformity. About finding happiness and finding the person who will let you be who you want to be.”

Enchanted actress Amy Adams has joined the cast of Townhouse. The movie chronicles the life changes an agoraphobic man (reportedly played by Zach Galifianakis) must make when his financial situation changes.

Now without a steady flow of cash pouring in from his Rock star father Baz, Jack Madigan, a color consultant, must change his ways. While attempting to put the pieces back together Jack becomes friendly with a call girl.

Townhouse is based on the book by Tish Cohen. The movie is said to be loosely based on the novel which hopefully showcases Cohen’s fictional characters in the same light.

Amy Adams will play the role of the friendly call girl. Townhouse, labeled as a comedy, will be produced by Ridley and Tony Scott and is scheduled to hit theaters in 2010. John Carney will be directing.

Actress Rooney Mara has just wrapped up work on the set of A Nightmare on Elm Street in the lead role as Nancy Thompson. Mara’s character is described as “an anti-social goth chick”.

A Nightmare on Elm Street was directed by Samuel Bayer and is due out on the 30th of April 2010.

“We are going to debut a new character into the Nightmare mythos. He is going to go by the name of ‘Freddy Krueger’ and he will have a glove with sharp metal appendages. He is going to haunt the dreams of the children whose parents killed him. It’s going to be really spooky,” stated Shannon Spogel of Platinum Dunes studios.

As a biography Rooney Mara was born in 1985 and is a New York native. Mara is the youngest sister of Kate Mara. To date Rooney Mara has appeared in both TV and on the big screen. Rooney’s movie credits include Tanner Hall as Fernanda, the Winning Season as Wendy and the 2009 movie Dare.

The American actress has made TV appearances in The Cleaner on A&E, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and ER. Rooney Mara just finished filming Friends With Benefits in the role of Tara.

Walk the Line actress Reese Witherspoon is starring in Rule #1 as well as producing. The movie will also be produced by Brad Epstein of Dan In Real Life and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.

In Rule #1 Reese Witherspoon’s New York character will become friends with a Puerto Rican girl who is struggling with attention deficit disorder. The project comes by way of Fox Searchlight and was written by Terrel Seltzer who has scribed One Fine Day and Johnny Bago . Not much else about Rule #1 has been released at this time.

Aside from Witherspoon’s attachment to the above mentioned project, the actress also has quite a few more movies underway. Per IMDb the Oscar winner is currently working on the movie Our Family Trouble, Downsizing, Tokyo Suckerpunch, Bear and the Bow, Used Guys, Nice, Midnight and Under the Bridge.

Witherspoon is also busy working on Around the World in 80 Dates and Bell Witch through her production company, Type A Films.

Jon and Kate Gosselin have reportedly worked out a movie deal with New Line Cinema. Nothing has been set in stone but several sites are stating that a movie is in the works!

No one knows for sure if the feuding former couple, who rose to fame for their series Jon and Kate Plus 8 on TLC, recently struck up a deal for their own movie or if this was something previously worked out before their much publicized split. One thing is for sure, Kate Gosselin plans to stay in the spotlight even after all is said and done.

“I’ve done enough years on TV that I feel like it’s a normal, comfortable, natural place to be. I’d love to be in a movie at some point, I’d love to be the voice of a cartoon character in a movie for my kids. I think that would be fun.”

Could this be just Kate’s movie deal or is Jon involved as well? Either way, sources are reporting that the Jon and Kate movie will sign “two unknown actors” that will be “picked for physical similarities to the Gosselins…Unknown…..kind of like Kate and Jon were before this all started.”

Actress Aimee Teegarden, who portrays the daughter Julie of Coach Taylor on Friday Night Lights, has been cast as Nicole in the 2010 movie Beautiful Wave.

The movie centers around a young woman who travels to Santa Cruz for the summer. While there she learns how to surf as well as a few family secrets that were locked away.

As a biography Aimee Teegarden was born on October 10th in 1989. Teegarden is a Downey, California native who is most notable for her role as Julie taylor on the TV series Friday Night Lights. Aside from her current role, Teegarden has also made appearances in Call of the Wild, The Perfect Age of Rock n’ Roll and For sale by the Owner as Elanor Dare.

Aimee Teegarden’s additional acting credits include guest appearances in The Legend of the Seeker, Hannah Montana, Cold case, Ned’s Declassified, CSI: Miami and Sailing for Madagascar. Teegarden has also been cast in the upcoming 2011 movie titled Hickory Nation. Details on the project have yet to be released, the movie is however in development.

Canadian Noot Seear has been cast as new Moon’s Heidi, “gorgeous human bait used by the Volturi vampires to lure victims to be fed on.”

Noot Seear, who reportedly took the New Moon role right out of actress AnnaLynne McCord’s hands, also finished up a photo shoot for the November 2009 issue of Harper’s Bazaar! The model is seen in a sticky situation with Law and Order.

As a biography Noot Seear is a Canadian actress who was born in 1983 on October 5th in Canada. Seear currently resides in New York City and continues to model with her main focus in acting. Noot has worked for Pantene Pro-V and appeared in both Elle and S Magazine. She was also featured in Italy’s Vanity Fair. She has also appeared on the runway for Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Giorgio Armani and Vera Wang.

Her acting credits to date include roles in the comedy Head Over Heels with actor freddie Prinze Jr., the Tv series Whistler, Cold Squad and MTV’s Kaya.

Anne Heche’s attachment in the upcoming movie will place her in the role of actor Ed Helms’ on screen possible love interest in Cedar Rapids.

Cedar Rapids is the story of an insurance agent, played by Ed Helms, and his mission to svae the jobs of his co-workers at an industry convention. Heche will become friendly with the agent. The comedy movie comes by way of Fox Searchlight.

Cedar Rapids will be produced by Alexander Payne with director Miguel Arteta. The screenplay was written by Phil Johnston and Ed Helms. Originally the movie was planned to be filmed in (where else?) Cedar Rapids, producers have however changed their minds and plan on taking the comedy to Michigan instead.

“We’ll miss out on that short-term direct spending of having a film shot here, but we should enjoy the long-term benefit of having the movie called ‘Cedar Rapids,” stated Cedar Rapids Convention & Vistor’s Bureau’s Tim Boyle.
