The only way to get ahead is to work together as a family or clan. As difficult as it may be, it’s the smartest and fastest way to accumulate real wealth.
As an aside, I see this on a micro level with my Indian friends. They quite often buy a house, and keep a few families in it and pool their resources. The children are looked after by elders, and all the men (and some women) go and earn income. They can payoff a house in only a few years – and then move on and do the same thing for the next family and their house.

Most “modern” families don’t even visit each other. They move apart, claiming their independence from one another. This goes even further – couples divorce easily and then become further impoverished. Then they must rely on the state and soon realize it is impossible to get ahead when not sharing resources.
