RIKD-One Inch Back Fist
Step 1
Begin in the fighting stance. In this example throw the punch with the lead hand.
Step 2
Since this is an example of a one inch break, I begin with my fore knuckles on the board soley to
illustrate the 1 inch.
Step 3
The elbow is bent down and the hand closes and is spun inward with the palm and thumb facing the
practioner.
Step 4
To provide the power needed to break the hips are also spun inward as well as the torso and shoulder
which line up behind the elbow prior to the strike. Also spin up slightly on the front foot as the hips
rotate to add power and enable striking down and through the target.
Step 5
It is also important when performing a 1 inch break to shoot the hips in after they rotate behind the elbow
in order to maintain the 1 inch. Other wise the elbow drops more and the hand tends to pull back further.
When performing the break unconstrained by distances this is not essential.
Step 6
Remember to snap the fist out from the elbow and strike down through the target. Hit with the first two
knuckles on the top (back) of the fist

The board being used is a black re-breakable martial arts board rated at 2.25 boards. The board's color indicates belt level. If you have not been trained in breaking I do not recommend you try these breaks without the personal supervision of a qualified Martial Arts instructor. Beginners should use either re-breakable boards recommended for their belt level or board sizes recommended by their instructors. Breaking can lead to injury when techniques are performed improperly. Consideration and care should also be taken in the hardening of the
hands to help prevent injury. It is not necessary that you attend a martial arts school where these techniques shown here are being taught but that you receive the basic training needed to prevent injury to yourselves.

One Inch Hammer fist

Hammer Fist strike

A strike using the bottom of a clenched fist, with an action like swinging a hammer, but it
can also be used horizontally like a back fist strike using the bottom fist or meaty part of the
fist. The elbow is the hinge or fulcrum, the forearm is the handle, and the fist the hammer in this
strike.

This strike will not damage the bones of the hands as there is no compression of the knuckles
or metacarpals, and there is no leverage to bend the wrist. However, injuries can occur when
martial artists fail to use proper care when breaking. So remember to exercise care when
performing these and any other strikes.*Warning-These
techniques are attempted by the viewer at their own risk.

The hammer fist strikes baseball sized areas on the body, hence is particularly effective for
striking the Occipital, the temples, the nose, the mandible, the wrist (for blocking punches),
the sternum, and the ear. The hammer fist is sometimes used during "ground-and-pound"
striking in mixed martial arts to avoid damaging the bones of the hand.

Unlike traditional martial arts the strike shown here is performed off the front foot and lead hand.
In order to maintain the one inch it requires the martial artist to bring the elbow down as the
hips spin and move forward behind the elbow. The strike is both horizontal and down at impact.

In traditional Martial Arts the hammer fist is performed off the back leg and the striking hand will be
on the same side as the back leg. Face forward with your feet shoulders' width apart. Step forward
on one leg with your knee bent. Your back leg will be straight (front stance).Form the striking hand
into a fist. Remember to keep your thumb on the outside of your fist, curved over the index finger.

Raise your fist above and behind the same-side shoulder, with the bottom of your hand facing up
and out. Strike forward and downward in a circular arc to the target, striking with the bottom (fleshy)
part of the fist.

The Olympic lifts train athletes to effectively activate more muscle fibers more rapidly than through
any other mode of training. The explosiveness that results from this training is of vital necessity to
every sport. Practicing the Olympic lifts teaches one to apply force to muscle groups in proper
sequence, i.e., from the core of the body to its extremities (center to extremity). This
vital technical lesson benefits all athletes who impart force to another person or object
as is commonly required in nearly all sports.

Martial Artists often do well in the sport. Why?
In the Martial arts, we learn to use the muscle groups of the entire body in the proper
sequence in order to develop and unleash power. Technique, timing, leverage, use of momentum,
the combining of speed and strength to create power, all are used in the martial arts
and Olympic lifts.

In addition to learning to impart explosive forces, the clean and jerk and snatch condition the
body to receive such forces from another moving body both safely and effectively.

Numerous studies have demonstrated the Olympic lifts unique capacity to develop strength, muscle,
power, speed, coordination, vertical leap, muscular endurance, bone strength, and the physical
capacity to withstand stress. Also worth mentioning is that the Olympic lifts are the only lifts shown
to increase maximum oxygen uptake, the one most important marker for cardiovascular fitness.

Vitali Klitschko versus sportswriters and fans absurd comments

Why do sportscasters in the USA in general choose to portray Vitali Klitchko
in a less than positive manner. He probably has the best KO percentage of any
Heavyweight boxer in history. Vitali is a former WBO and WBC world champion.
When we pause to ponder why it is that they portray Vitali
in such a fashion we can solve the riddle. Vitali is 6' 7" or 6' 8" whichever
height you percieve. He is also fast in the ring, has good hand speed,
hits as hard as his nickname implies (Dr. Iron Fist), and is a man who clearly is thinking
while he is fighting. He exposes his opponents weaknesses and makes them
pay for their mistakes.
What reason could these sport's writers possibly have to condemn
Vitali then?
1.Bias. Bias based on the fighters they support and want to see
become Heavyweight Champion.
2. Fear-they fear that their fighters will
not become World Champions if Vitali stands in their way.
3. Love and obsession-
this group would include all the sport's fans (mostly female) that want to see
Vladimir have all the belts. If I were a biased sport's writer I would want all of them for
an audience to write too.
What would I write about?
All you have to do is read some
of the posts written on the Klitchko forum by fans about why Vitali should not
come back.

What is the answer to this puzzle then?
Sacrifice?
It is not a sacrifice if both brothers
share the same dream. It is a Sacrifice though if their fans do not share in their dream
but support them in the achievement of their goals anyway.
Isn't that what Easter is all about? Sacrifice?

There have been reports written that "In his last bout against Danny Williams in December 2004, Vitali was incredibly slow and
breathing hard after the first few rounds of the fight. Though he ended up stopping Williams
in the 8th, Vitali looked ragged by the fights end – hardly like a champion."
I watched the fight and I saw Vitali avoiding punches thrown
by Williams that would have caught most heavyweights flat footed and knocked them
to the canvas. Watch the video of the 7th round. You want see a slow Vitali
or someone huffing and puffing around the ring.

Easter this year is: Sunday, March 23, 2008.
The last time Easter Sunday was on March 23 was in the year 1913. Easter is always the 1st
Sunday after the 1st full moon after the Spring Equinox (which is March 20). The next Easter
that comes a day earlier (March 22) will be in the year 2285 (277 years from now).
Easter is termed a moveable feast
because it is not fixed in relation to the civil calendar (Roman Calendar). Easter falls at some point between late
March and late April each year (early April to early May in Eastern Christianity), following the
cycle of the moon.

This year's Easter is the earliest any of us will ever see it for the
rest of our lives. The only ones who have ever seen it this early are 95 years old or above!
And none of us have ever or will ever see it a day earlier! why? The next time Easter will be
this early (March 23) will be in the year 2228 (220 years from now).

Easter, also called Pascha, is the most important religious feast in the Christian liturgical year.
It celebrates the resurrection of Jesus, which Christians believe occurred on the third day after his
crucifixion some time in the period AD 27 to 33. Many non-religious cultural elements have become
part of the holiday, and those aspects are often celebrated by many Christians and non-Christians
alike.

Christ the Lord Is Risen Today is a Christian hymn traditionally associated with Easter. Most of the
original stanzas were written by Charles Wesley, and the hymn appeared under the title Hymn for Easter
Day in Hymns and Sacred Songs by Charles and John Wesley in 1739. In my video all the new Lyric
was written be me.

The hymn is a variation of an earlier hymn Jesus Christ Is Risen Today, a 14th century Latin hymn
which had been translated into English and published in Lyra Davidica in 1708
(and later in 1749 in Arnold's Compleat Psalmodist).

The Music in my video (Arranged by me) is attributed to Henry
Carey. Carey born August 26, 1687 – October 5, 1743 was an English poet, dramatist and
song-writer.

Vladimir KlitschkO barely took a punch and was unmarked while winning a unanimous decision Saturday night, defending his IBF title and claiming Ibragimov's WBO belt in the first heavyweight unification fight in nearly nine years.
"I'm happy to have three belts," Klitschko said, who also holds the IBO title. "I'm happy to get the WBO belt back. That was the first title I had." "He was very difficult to fight," Vladimir said. "He kept backing off. He's very careful,
but the result counts."

Don Ackerman scored it 119-110 for Klitschko, while Chuck Giampa scored the fight 117-111

The match will be held at Madison Square Gardens. These are both excellent
fighters with quick hands and fast feet. A dream match. The two will both enter
the ring as World Champions but soon only one will be the Master.

Perspective

We all view the world and life issues from our on unique vantage
points. In many ways our perspectives and vantage points are similar. In a democracy
we discuss similar and opposing views freely. There are those who would bully
others into accepting their views. The world is full of them. They can be found almost
everywhere man is, even in cyberspace, my space, you tube, etc.

I wrote a poem about perspective:
Perspective?

Having been asked
What’s it all about?

I peered out through my eyes window
Tinted as with darkened glass

That hindered light’s passing
To illuminating truth

And saw there only shadow
Which mocked my searching gaze

Viewing the world through sun glasses
I saw mostly smoke and haze

Confusion delusion and illusion
Gathered blinding my mind

Searching for truth I reasoned
Was just passing time

Till I set aside the coolest
Sun glasses ever made

And looked for truth
Where only the blind can see

Within the heart and soul
Where the spirit breathes

"The other day I was reading Newsweek magazine and came across some poll data I found rather hard to believe. It must be true, given the source, right?

The Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are unhappy with the direction the country is headed, and 69 percent of the country is unhappy with the performance of the President. In essence, 2/3's of the citizenry just isn't happy and want a change.

So being the knuckle dragger I am, I started thinking, ''What are we so unhappy about?''
Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 days a week?

Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter?

Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks have a job?

Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time, and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last year?

Maybe it is the ability to drive from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Oceanwithout having to present identification papers as we move through each state?

Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we would find along the way that can provide temporary shelter?

I guess having thousands of restaurants with varying cuisine from around the world is just not good enough.

Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency workers show up and
provide services to help all, and even send a helicopter to take you to the hospital.

Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who own a home. You may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate case of a fire, a group of trained firefighters will appear in moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the flames thus saving you, your family and your belongings.

Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat screen TVs, a burglar or prowler or intrudes , an officer equipped with a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to defend you and your family against attack or loss.

This all in the backdrop of a neighborhood free of bombs or militias raping and pillaging the residents. Neighborhoods where 90 percent of teenagers own cell phones and computers.

How about the complete religious, social and political freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the world?

Maybe that is what has 67 percent of you folks unhappy.

Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled brats the world has ever seen. No wonder the world loves the U.S., yet has a great disdain for its citizens. They see us for what we are. The most blessed people in the world who do nothing but complain about what we don't have , and what we hate about the country instead of thanking the good Lord we live here.

I know, I know. What about the President who took us into war and has no plan to get us out? The President who has a measly 31 percent approval rating? Is this the same President who guided the nation in the dark days after 9/11? The President that cut taxes to bring an economy out of recession? Could this be the same guy who has been called every name in the book for succeeding in keeping all the spoiled ungrateful brats safe from terrorist attacks?

The Commander-In Chief of an all-volunteer army that is out there defending you and me? Did you hear how bad the President is on the news or talk show? Did this news affect you so much, make you so unhappy you couldn't take a look around for yourself and see all the good things and be glad?

Think about it...are you upset at the President because he actually caused you personal pain OR is it because the "Media" told you he was failing to kiss your sorry ungrateful behind every day.

Make no mistake about it. The troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have volunteered to serve, and in many cases may have died for your freedom. There is currently no draft in this country. They didn't have to go.

They are able to refuse to go and end up with either a ''general'' discharge, an ''other than honorable'' discharge or, worst case scenario, a ''dishonorable'' discharge after a few days in the brig.

So why then the flat-out discontentment in the minds of 69 percent of Americans? Say what you want, but I blame it on the media. If it bleeds, it leads; and they specialize in bad news. Everybody will watch a car crash with blood and guts. How many will watch kids selling lemonade at the corner? The media knows this and media outlets are for-profit corporations. They offer what sells , and when criticized, try to defend their actions by "justifying" them in one way or another. Just ask why they tried to allow a murderer like O.J. Simpson to write a book about "how he didn't kill his wife, but if he did he would have done it this way"...Insane!

Stop buying the negativism you are fed everyday by the media. Shut off the TV, burn Newsweek, and use the New York Times for the bottom of your bird cage. Then start being grateful for all we have as a country. There is exponentially more good than bad.

We are among the most blessed people on Earth, and should thank God several times a day, or at least be thankful and appreciative.

"With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, "Are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"

A senior U.S. military officer said on Tuesday.
Washington is trying to gauge whether Russia's recent bomber mission near a U.S. aircraft carrier indicated Moscow's return to a Cold War "mind-set" and is considering how the Pentagon should respond.

But other senior U.S. defense and Navy officials stressed they did not see Russia's weekend bomber flights south of Japan as provocative.

Four U.S. fighter jets were scrambled on February 9 to escort Russian bombers that approached the USS Nimitz south of Japan. One Russian bomber flew over the deck of the aircraft carrier, escorted by a U.S. fighter jet.

Adm. Gary Roughead, U.S. chief of naval operations, downplayed the incident and said it reflected Russia's emerging naval power.

"I think what we are seeing is a Russian military or Russian navy that is emerging and, in the case of the navy, desiring to emerge as a global navy," Roughead told reporters at the Pentagon.

"I do not consider it to be provocative," he said of the bomber mission.

But on Capitol Hill, another top U.S. military officer -- Marine Corps Gen. James Cartwright -- said the Pentagon was trying to assess the implications of Russia's actions.

"Now, what we're concerned about is what are the indications of this return to a Cold War mind-set, what are the implications of that activity and how do we best address that," said Cartwright, vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The incident happened in neutral international airspace, Cartwright said.

"We're just trying to go back and look at what message was intended by this overflight," he told a Senate panel.

At the State Department, spokesman Sean McCormack said the Russian bomber flights were not seen as a threat.

"The Russians made a decision to resume some of their long-range aviation flights, involving some of their assets left over from the Cold War," he told reporters.

"I don't think we view it as a particular threat. It is something that we watch closely, and I'm sure folks over at the Pentagon watch it as well."

Any U.S. expressions of concern to Russia would probably be carried out through military channels, McCormack said.

TESTY RELATIONS

U.S.-Russian relations have become testy, with Washington concerned that Russian democracy is being eroded and Moscow complaining of U.S. interference.

A dispute over U.S. plans to place missile defense assets in former Soviet-allied territory has also raised tensions, and Russia is unhappy with continued U.S. support for expansion of the NATO military alliance.

Russian officials have said they will revive some of the military power and reach that was allowed to collapse with the Soviet Union.

Russia could train its nuclear missiles on Ukraine if the pro-Western state joins NATO, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in Moscow on Tuesday.

Asked his reaction to Putin's statement, McCormack said: "There he goes again." McCormack offered no further comment, saying he had not seen Putin's remarks.

The Russian Air Force said the mission by four Tu-95 bombers was part of long-distance patrols in the Pacific, Atlantic and Arctic oceans and the Black Sea that began last August.

A Russian news agency quoted Air Force spokesman Alexander Drobyshevsky expressing surprise at "all the clamor this raised."

The last time a Russian bomber flew over a U.S. aircraft carrier was in July 2004, and Russian bombers have increased their flights near U.S. territory to demonstrate their long-range strike capability.

Sen. Bill Nelson, a Florida Democrat who raised the issue during the Senate hearing, said the Russian maneuver "sounds pretty provocative to me." He said the Armed Services Committee, of which he is a member, would look into the issue.

Mayor of Kiev, Ukraine and has political ambitions. Then there is that Klitschko conspiracy to unite all the Heavyweight Title Belts too. Vladimir K seeking Sultan's belt and Vitali the WBC belt from the winner of the Maskaev (Russian fighter) and Peter fight. Who is also by the way not American born.
Maybe I should put my sunglasses back on. All this hoopla

Come on Vladimir P a truce for the fight?

Oh yeah, you got me,I do have more than a casual interest here in this fight. I have both Russian and Ukrainian roots
having one set of Great Grand Parents who came over from Russia to America in 1898. My Great Grandfather
as the story goes was a decendent of the Czars and my Great Grandmother's brother was a Professor at
the Kharkov institute in the Ukraine. I guess if I was a racist my feelings on the fight would be split. Thus giving
support to all those who say I have a split personality: some say I'm half nuts and the other half is just plain
crazy!!! Well as woody woodpecker would say HahaHahaha...

What is it that is happening that is positive?
Quick update:
Vitali reiterated in tonights Blick, studio in Munich, TV Interview that that he wants to fight the winner of the upcoming bout between
WBC champion Oleg Maskaev and mandatory Samuel Peter, scheduled for Oct. 6 in New York's Madison Square Garden. Vitali
explained that his emeritious status as WBC Champion allows him to come back at any time and fight for the belt. Vitali plans to fight
in 2 or 3 months after full recovery with the winner of the Maskaev-Peter fight. World Boxing Council President Jose Sulaiman
said "Really I believe that boxing needs him. Vitali is very attractive for the world and I hope that he will be back.''

The outlook of both brothers is positive. The fight with the winner of the
Oct 6th fight will be just one more step in the plan the brothers share.
It is their vision and that shared by their fans to capture and unify all the Heavyweight boxing titles.

Boxing-Vitali Klitschko Injures back-Fight Postponed

The German Newspaper the Bild reports that Vitali Klitschko has sustained
an injury to his back. The injury occurred during the warm-up for training on Saturday. He was reported to have severe back pain and a slipped disk.
Vitali was treated successfully in the Innsbrucker Clinic. He will have to rehab
for 6 weeks and then challenge McCline again.

In case you are wondering what a hoodoo is,
it is like a ghost or something heard in the
dark
and you don't know exactly what it is. Cajuns
would
call it a hoodoo.
I was simply using it as a play on words for
who and do and of course the double meaning.
For all of you who were wondering, the mental
image is that of LL running through the jungle
being chased by a hound.
In a sense we as fans are hounding him for
Vitali to come back for a rematch. Lennox
inspite of all his words, is trying to pull
a disappearing act
like a ghost or a hoodoo.
So we're like the hound in the song,

Boxing-Lennox Lewis and Bob Barker retired

The tail of two Barks or is it tale?

Bob Barker was a host for the Price is Right.
A TV games show in the USA.
Barker is an old english name for a salesman.
Webster's dictionary "especially : a person who
advertises by hawking at an entrance to a show."
Bob as it turns out was a pretty good Barker and
remained on TV for 50 years. Bob turns 83 Dec 12
and says "I've decided to retire while I'm
still young," .

Lennox Lewis was a boxer who is now a barker
for HBO. Lennox now talks up fights for HBO,
he is now a barker of sports. Lennox barked alot
about a rematch with Vitali KlitschKO in a post
fight interview in 2003. He said " And, you know,
if he wants a rematch, there’s no problem with
that. Yeah, I’ll have . . . I’m happy to give him a
rematch, because I’ll bust up the other side of
his face too." Listen, if the money is right . . .
you just heard me say it. You know, I’m
happy to bust up the other side of his face.
There’s no problem." Pro Vitali fans are hoping
Lewis was barking up a rematch when he said
those words. "You Know" sellin the fight.
Wouldn't it be great if we could
see Bob Barker and Lennox Lewis come out of
retirement togeher. You know, and hear Bob say
"Lennox Lewis" " The price is right" "come
on down".

In a sense you see
we're all barkin here.

Music-Luciano Pavarotti Dies

Luciano Pavarotti, hailed by many as the greatest tenor of his generation, died on Thursday.
The Italian Opera Star died on Thursday after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Luciano died
today at 5 a.m. (11 p.m. Wednesday EDT) at his home in Modena. He was 71.
He fought a long, tough battle against the pancreatic cancer which eventually took his life.
He remained positive until finally succumbing to the last stages of his illness.
Luciano underwent surgery in New York for pancreatic cancer and retreated to his villa in Modena.
He had to cancel his first planned public reappearance a few months later.
He was taken to a hospital in Modena last month and treated for more than
two weeks. He was released on August 25, and spent his final hours at home with family and
friends nearby. He is survived by his wife, Nicoletta, their four-year-old daughter, Alice, as well
as three daughters from Pavarotti's first marriage.
Mayor Pighi said Pavarotti's funeral would probably be held Saturday.

"Pavarotti wanted to die at home. I saw him last week. He was very worn by the illness but he wanted to make conversation. We even spoke in the local dialect," Pighi said.

drawn to him like a magnet because of his great talent. He had the most powerful voice in music, when performing Nessuno Dorma
he seemed almost to visibly draw energy into himself and release it masterfully in song. The world will miss this great talent and voice
but fortunately his performances are recorded and will live on". In his own words he said :
"Penso che una vita nella musica sia una vita ben spesa ed è quello a cui ho dedicato la mia vita" "I think a life in music is a life
beautifully spent and this is what I have devoted my life to".
He shared with us and the world a life wonderfully and beautifully spent.

BIO-Luciano Pavarotti was born in Modena, Italy, on October 12, 1935. Luciano when a young boy, soccer was his favorite pastime and he became known as a member of his town's team locally. His mother, Adele, who worked in a tobacco factory, and father, Fernando, a baker, instilled a love for music and singing in young Luciano. The father was himself a talented amateur tenor, and brought his son along to sing in Modena's Corale Rossi. Pavarotti's enthusiasm shifted from football to opera when the chorus took first prize in an international competition in Wales.

One inch break performed off back foot and rear hand from close in fighting position.
Uses-in close or in a clinch this strike can be performed with breaking power that will slow or stop an opponent. The technique is performed here using the rear hand and is executed off the rear leg. The hip is snapped inward and the torso upward with the body aligning itself with the fist behind the elbow and shoulder prior to striking.
The hand is open at the beginning with fore knuckles resting on the board and closed before the board is struck. The hand being open at the beginning is a non essential part of the technique. It's purpose here is only to provide the 1 inch spacing. However the technique can be applied utilizing the fore knuckles thus increasing the range from which the user is able to strike. When using the fore knuckles one should be cautious to strike only soft tissue areas until the hands have been hardened.The wrist is snapped upward upon striking the board. This is not however intended to demonstrate a 1 inch JKD punch.

It's purpose here is only to provide the 1 inch spacing. However the technique can be applied utilizing the fore knuckles thus increasing the range from which the user is able to strike. When using the fore knuckles one should be cautious to strike only soft tissue areas until the hands have been hardened.The wrist is snapped upward upon striking the board. If you have not been trained in breaking I do not recommend you try these breaks without the personal supervision of a qualified Martial Arts instructor. Beginners should use either re-breakable boards recommended for their belt level or board sizes recommended by their instructors. Breaking can lead to injury when techniques are performed improperly. Consideration and care should also be taken in the hardening of the
hands to help prevent injury. It is not necessary that you attend a martial arts school where these techniques shown here are being taught but that you receive the basic training needed to prevent injury to yourselves.
Rikd performs one inch break of re breakable martial arts board rated at 2.25 boards. Performed with a full twist punch (90 degrees counter clockwise from vertical position at start). In this example the arm is extended, however this is not necessary to perform the strike. This strike or break is performed with the lead hand or the one you would jab at an opponent with. The strike begins with the M.A. (Martial Artist) in a fighting stance with the knees slightly bent. The hips snap inward and the weight is placed
on the ball of the front foot. When the hips, torso, shoulder, elbow, and wrist are in line with the fist (at this point the fist has rotated 90 degrees) the torso is then snapped forward and down slightly with all momentum, and power projected behind the fist which is snapped downward through the target (here the fist is snapped like a whip at the end of the motion and is then at 135 degrees). The feet can also be used to add power to the strike as the weight is shifted forward and down on the front foot with the back foot pushing forward raised slightly onto the ball of the foot.

The fore knuckles rest on board creating the one inch spacing. The hand is closed into a fist immediately before striking. This is not an example of a 1 inch punch from JKD. This break's technique finds it's roots in the ITF of TKD. The hip snap utilized is a sine wave technique. I modified the technique for this strike. It is a misconception that TKD does not employ a vertical fist strike. A Vertical punch in Korean is Sewo Chirugi. Wrist is snapped down on impact instead of up. I use this strike for coming over the guard or when striking from a slightly downward angle. This technique favors a taller martial artist. The hand being open at the beginning of the strike is not an essential part of the technique. It merely shows the 1 inch spacing. However the strike can also be performed using the fore knuckles instead of the fist adding to the reach. I recommend for the beginner that the hand be completely closed into a fist before striking. Do this in order to prevent injury to the wrist. Injury can occur because of improper alignment of the wrist behind the fist prior to striking.
