I'm not sure if it's Irish luck or just that I've made a few extra deposits in the Karma bank lately, but of the last few weddings I've had, each has been blessed with a most exquisite weather pattern. Perhaps I should give credit to my clients and their good karma. Whatever the case with 29 days of rain in 32 days you sort of have to wonder how you score your wedding on a day with clear crisp blue skies, gentle August like breezes,and temps hovering in the upper 70's. Such was the day that Jenna and Brian were lucky enough to seal their vow to each other. I spent the morning hanging with the ladies creating images of the details of preparation. The ceremony was a catholic mass, which I always like because of the extra time allowed to capture different images and find alternate anglesfrom which to shoot.
Overall it was a great day to be a photographer; a beautiful day, an attractive wedding party, and an even more attractive bride and groom. Many Thanks to Jenna and Brian for having me there to capture the day. Enjoy these few images and the slideshow.

Kate and George at The Red Barn

Kate and George got married on what was the second nice day of the late spring/early summer. No, really there has only been about three. I'm thinking, "go buy a lottery ticket or something". I met with Kate and George over beers in Portland a few weeks before the wedding and I just new it was going to be a fun day. They were so relaxed and willing to accept just about anything that was thrown their way. I often wonder if that approach to life doesn't reward it's follower with good fortune. Such was definitelythe case with the day that Kate and George were married. I enjoyed every minute of their day. They were
married outside under bright skies with puffy clouds and a subtle westerly breeze. I heard more than one guest mention that it felt more like a day in September than May.
The reception took place at The Red Barn at Outlook Farm(a growing favorite of mine). The crowd was lively and the night turned quickly into a party. Thanks so much for having me there to capture your day. You guys were awesome to work with.

Kaitlin and Ricky

A couple weeks ago, on what was arguably one of the most gorgeous spring days Maine has ever seen I got to photograph the wedding of Kaitlin and Ricky. The day was ruled by blue skies, temps in the high 70's, a fresh breeze, and lots of people celebrating the love between these two people. Kait and Ricky are young, full of positive energy, and totally in love. They've built a wonderful house together, are solid in their chosen careers, and have set themselves up for a great life together. It was a treat to spend the day capturing this incredible day. I can't wait to see what is next for these two as they start their life together; and of course to capture it :)

Normally, I pride myself on being able to have all of the album designs, photo edits, video slide shows and customized website for my clients done about two or three weeks after their

wedding.

But I have officially just let one slip through the cracks. :-(

Many of my avid blog readers know that on Dec. 31st, I had a baby girl. Ella is our first child, and while she is only 10 weeks old, she already has me wrapped around her baby fingers. When she makes so much as a whimper, I can't stop myself from running to her side as if she was taking her last breath. Perhaps it's because we spent a stressful week with her at Maine Med when she was only 2 weeks old, or perhaps its because I just adore her smile.

Joel & Anne, please accept my most sincere apologies for the long delay. As a way to make up for this oversight, I will be upgrading your wedding album to our biggest size and I have also posted a 50% off sale on all of your wedding photos for the next week. :-) Enjoy!

The Wedding

In December, I had the pleasure of driving a few hours north to Presque Isle, Maine to spend a weekend with two amazing families. It was clear when I arrived that a true sense of "community" still exists in this remote northern Maine town. From the first moment I met the family at the rehearsal, I was 100% sure this winter wedding was going to be a major blast!

Joel, Anne, and I had BIG PLANS for wedding days photos, but when we awake to a windy 3

degree cold snap, the plans quickly changed to indoor activities, with one exception.

The service was held in a church that Anne's dad had helped restore. So cute and just so personal, it was a perfect service. To make the service even more perfect, the snow started to fall as we all made our way out of the church. It was a scene straight

from a movie as Anne and Joel jumped in their horse-drawn carriage draped in new fallen snow.

Congratulations to you both. You are an amazing couple and great people. Your photos clearly show how much you love each other.

P.S. Anne & Joel, How's the new house? Is the pool open for the season yet?

I just got this email from a customer that I've been working with for a while. I just have to share it because it struck a chord - as just one of the reasons I absolutely love doing what I do. Yeah - perhaps it's shameless as they were saying all kinds of great things about me, but to be honest its deeper than that.

We got it!!!!!!!!!!! It's ABSOLUTELY THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much for your patience with us as we muddled our way thru this entire process. We've had a lot of challenges financially and in our relationship. You have been fantastic every step of the way and we feel more than honored that you were able to not only be a part of our wedding experience as your talent overflows but also that you had every faith in us to make payments. In our desperation to find a photographer, there you were! As a result we have memories that will last forever... Jessica and Damon at The Red Barn - Outlook Farm

My last wedding for the fall was an absolute blast. It was great to end the season with a beautiful church and reception site, great people, and an overall willingness to have fun while taking pictures.
We used every minute of available time and had lots of laughs with the wedding party. I had great props to work with as both Jess and Damon were delivered to the wedding in some beautiful antique cars. Another point of interest was that Damon(and all of his groomsmen) are local law enforcement officers, and a number of them are members of the SWAT team. They were psyched to use that commonality in some photos, and I of course was more than happy to oblige. What we ended up with will certainly turn some heads - which is why it was so much fun.
After we finished up with our group shots, I even got the bride and groom away from the melee of things for a few minutes of time alone.

The party that followed was EPIC!! Everybody danced, everybody partied like crazy, and we kept the place going long after we were supposed to. I think the highlight of the party was watching Jess's grandfather(the man responsible for restoring all the beautiful cars to showroom quality) on the dance floor with the bridesmaids grinding away and laughing like a teenager.

Jess and Damon - thank you so much for making me part of your day. I had an absolute blast, and hope that we get to work together a great deal in the future. You guys rock!!!

Rusty and Sarah

Every so often I get to photograph a wedding for a friend. As a rule I avoid this, but there are of course exceptions, and I couldn't be happier for those special exceptions. I've been friends with Rusty for over 10 years, and we've both endured the challenges of finding our one true love and all the heartache that comes with that search. When he met Sarah it was obvious that he had found the person with whom he would entrust his heart for the remainder of time. They've started a life together and seen each other through life's journey in a way that sets a standard for people around them. When they decided to marry and asked me to capture their wedding I knew it would be a fantastic day, full of emotion, love, family, and friends, and of course one hell of a celebration. Thanks to Rusty, Sarah and their families for having me there to capture the day. Here are just a few of my favorite images of the day. Stacey and Russ at Saddleback

Stacey and Russ got married at one of my all time favorite places in the whole world! Every weekend in the winter I can be found volunteering on the ski patrol at Saddleback, and it's also the place where I met my wife. It is my escape. So - you can see why I was so excited to shoot their wedding. They were such a fun couple and I truly enjoyed every minute I got to spend with them. The ceremony was stunning, with the mountain in the background, the food was wondeful, and the party was a blast. Although Russ will never be able to run for public office after his Village people dance. Too funny!
Here are just a few teasers of some of the days results. Russ - it was tempting, but I couldn't post those dance shots of you - you're just too nice of a guy!

Jessica and Jared

Jessica and Jared got married over Columbus day weekend this year on another perfect fall day. The weather was wonderfully warm, the fall colors were peaking, and they chose the gorgeous campus of Colby College for their events. It was a great day with a fun group of people, and by the time the reception rolled around there was no shortage of partying and dancing for all. Thanks for allowing me to capture your day. Elizabeth and Ben

I shot Elizabeth and Ben's wedding a few weeks back on one of the last true days of summer. It was an outdoor wedding with a mix of ceremonial traditions from many different backgrounds. A beautiful and eclectic ceremony. Ceremonial traditions aside though, I think my favorite part of the ceremony was when their beloved black labs decided they had had enough of standing aside and watching; they wanted in on the action. For the majority of the ceremony they stood by the side of their parents and waited patiently(with one minor exception) for the nuptials to be completed. To Elizabeth's credit she took it in stride and acted as if it was all part of a greater plan.

My hat also goes off to Ben. You orchestrated a fantastic affair! Well Done!!!

New Proofing Site!

Chris and I are excited to announce a new online proofing and ordering system. Starting Oct 29th, we will be transferring every photograph taken in 2008 onto our new system.

The switch to the new system will take 3 days as we have to transfer about 700,000 photos into the new system. (which takes time)

For our beloved clients and their families, this means a faster, easier and more enjoyable viewing and ordering process.

Anne & Joel's E-Pics

In December I will be photographing the wedding of Anne and Joel in waaayy northern Maine. This will be my last wedding before Ella is born and Anne and Joel are the perfect couple for me to end my crazy 2008 season.

On this sunny fall day I got together with the two of them for what was going to be a "trash the dress" shoot. These guys would have walked in water, rolled on the sandy beach or done anything to trash the $20 wedding gown they got at Good Will. But.... The late afternoon sun was

just so special I

was having so much fun with them that I forgot to get the dress "trashed."

Below is a slide show of a few photographs taken at this shoot. A few of the images were taken by Jeff, my assistant at this shoot and a studio owner in Chicago. Nice work Jeff!

Bre and Doug at the Eastland Park

I met Bre and Doug over pizza at Flatbread in Portland this past winter and instantly hit it off with them. They are a very cool couple that has a ton going on in life. Bre is from Maine and Doug is Canadian, so the guests were as you can imagine a great mix from both sides of the border. As you can imagine it made for some humorous banter among the wedding party that kept me laughing most of the day.
Bre and Doug had one of their first dates at Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth and thus chose to do their wedding formals in the park. They were blessed with an amazing day, and I had all kinds of fun working with this group. I hope you guys have a wonderful life together, and that you keep in touch. Here are just a few samples of my favorites from the day.

York Harbor Inn Wedding

York Harbor Inn Wedding.

Two weeks ago on Sunday, I had the pleasure of working at a wedding along side the staff at the York Harbor Inn. Alicia and Jon tied the knot in the perfectly manicured park across from the Inn overlooking the open ocean.

Alicia and Jon had requested that they take part in their entire reception and as such we got a jump on their photos before the service in their back yard. The lighting was perfect and the fall colors had just begun to show through. All and all it was a great day!

Somehow I envision a 5 year old Samantha sitting around the house playing with her dolls and planning her wedding day. White doves, a prince and a big white dress might have been the dream at the age of five. But on this past Saturday the dream had more to do with celebrating the fact that she and TJ adored the ground that the other walked on. This wedding day was so perfect that even a major rain storm could not keep TJ and Sam from being happy.

These two walked on a cloud of smiles despite a crazy hurricane just off shore producing biblical-style rain. We had planned a ton of different photo ops around town but when it was a guarantee that it would rain, we took our shoots inside at the Immanuel Baptist Church just across from the Eastland Park. The lighting inside this church is sooo amazing and the formals of the service of and the bride show it. Just great light!

Congratulations Samantha and TJ, your wedding was perfect! I had so much fun sharing your day with you and getting to see all the people you love so happy for you. I wish you the best in this exciting time and as I watched your first dance on Saturday I recalled fondly my own first dance as husband and wife. You both brought me back for just a moment and for this I thank you.

A Dune Grass Wedding (Steph & Mark)

A Dune Grass Wedding.

On September 12th, I had the pleasure of working with Stephanie, Mark and their families while capturing their wedding day on film. I first met these two while I photographed one of their friends’ weddings in 2007 and ever since Steph has been telling me how she wants wedding photos on the beach.

As we drove to the beach, the sky opened and it began to rain. I was certain this small part of her dream wedding was going to be a wash. Mark, Steph and I stepped out of the limo and managed to get a few quick photos at the edge of the beach and before I knew it the entire wedding party had joined us. Despite the rain, their wedding party joined in for a little fun and we managed to capture a few really cute photos of the entire wedding party ankle deep sand.

Congratulations to you both! Your never ending smile despite the rain was refreshing!
