For the last few years, this has been a weekly show. Going forward, we’ll offer the show as a monthly or even bi-monthly show. I’ll explain more on the show today.

Michael Huff of File Keepers

Not only did Richard lead his company to incredible success, he has been instrumental in the leadership and direction the entire RIM industry has taken. His influence is significant in the services we offer, the associations we are a part of, and the amazing business world we live in.

While many in the greater RIM industry compete with Iron Mountain on a daily basis, Richard’s success and story is worthy of applause and admiration. He is a brilliant strategist and business leader, and I’m thrilled to honor him and his contribution upon his retirement.

Today on the show we’ll share the first half of an extended interview I conducted with Richard as he arrived in Florida to begin his official retirement. Stephen Hershman of The Shred Stop

Today’s show is about a person that looked at a problem in a different way. Not from the shred industry, Steven Hershman faced an identity theft issue that pushed him to shred everything. In the process he discovered that small, desk-side shredders just don’t do the task of shredding like they should.

So he set off in a quest to create a solution. He and his partner, Keith Rettig worked to prototype a self-serve, kiosk-style shred machine to place in grocery stores. That prototype has evolved into a viable, revenue producing machine that is making it’s way in a more dramatic way into grocery stores. The Shred Stop just recently announced a agreement with Safeway to begin adding the shred kiosks into stores in the northwest.

It’s a great story and one that I know you’ll be interested in hearing.

Welcome to the first official RIMproReport broadcast. While this is the first episode of the news series, we have had some interview shows we provided to set the stage. But here it is. Yay!

On today’s show we talk to Jim Booth, Executive Director of PRISM International. We’ll talk about the new HIPAA rule and PRISM’s response to it. You can learn more on this HIPAA response page on the PRISM site.

We also do an in depth interview with Michael Sullivan of Automated Records Centre in State College, PA. Mike discusses some of the things he is doing and has implemented that are contributing to some particularly significant success in a small market like State College.

Finally, we get some great advice from Ray Barry of Shred School in response our Mail Bag question of the week.

Plus we cover some news and generally try to figure things out on the new RIMproReport.

Chris Harrer is a relative newcomer to the RIM industry – at least he was a couple of years ago when I did this interview. In this interview he shares his start up story and the lessons he’s learned along the way. Yes, I know it’s a couple of years old, but the lessons are just as valid today.

Chris is an incredibly bright business person. So, definitely worth the listen either as a start-up or as an industry veteran.

Chris runs United Document Storage in Pico Rivera, CA, part of the larger LA metro area.

Steve Richards Story
