We recently got married and decided to have our ceremony at Villa Orleans; definitely one of the best decisions of our lives.
The property owner, Louis, was absolutely the best host you can ask for, he was there for us for every step of the way, from arranging the areas for the ceremony till cleanup afterwards.
Mary from Tastebuds PR completed the ceremony with beautiful arrangements, delicious food and all other small details that a layman might omit but Mary was there to fulfill and complete this special day for us.

If you are looking for a play to stay and are in the area, we wholeheartedly recommend Villa Orleans, from its private and secluded location (right on the beach - it is effectively a private beach) to house layout and surrounding Casita and tropical forest.

There were nine of us so we wanted to try different things so if you stay in the main house you will be falling asleep with soothing waves from beneath the house; if you stay in the casita, you will be surrounded by jungle that Luis perfected.
Something for everyone.

House is located in a central location so you are close by all grocery stores and shops in Rincon.
The pictures do not do justice to this house and surrounding areas. Ample amenities, clean and well maintained.
Definitely looking forward to our next visit and will recommend to all my friends. Thank you Luis for wonderful time, experience and pleasure of meeting you.

Before and After Hurricane Irene

Hurricane Irene soaked most of Puerto Rico.

Leaving close to 30 inches of rain in some parts. The eastern side of the island took the brunt of wind and rain. The western side was spared but many still lost electrical power.
This video clip is from Rincon Puerto Rico. As Hurricane Irene passed the island, long strands of wind followed. Villa Orleans is pointed south, so winds whistled through door and window edges. When it rained, it rained sideways.

The ocean is not always a frothy milk chocolate. This is what it looks like most of the time:

The Rincón International Film Festival, April 12-16, 2011, will hold its annual festival in various venues in Rincón, Puerto Rico. Rincon is known as the Surfing Capital of the Caribbean, and has attracted a creative community of painters, musicians and film makers to bring together The Rincon Film Festival, now in its 4th year.
The festival presents the best of independent and international films, short and feature films, in various genres including surfing, horror, romantic comedies, dramas, documentaries, animations and music videos.
This year The New York Film Academy, one of the sponsors, will also give a scholarship award to an up and coming Puerto Rican director.
The series of Puerto Rican films include '100,000', by Juan Agustin Marquez, a documentary about the dog overpopulation problem in Puerto Rico.

We were traveling back from San Juan to Rincon PR, when off to our right, between the mountains and PR 2 in Isabela, we saw strange red lights drifting up to the sky. There were two groups. We videoed for 20 minutes and then they disappeared.

For Things to do in Puerto Rico, stop by the gardens at the Secret Garden Art Gallery. This is the entrance of the Secret Garden in Rincon PR. Without a sign it's hidden. It's located between the Horned Dorset Hotel and the Lemon Hotel.

This is the dry season so vegetation isn't as lush as it gets during the rainy season. This path circles the gardens.

We compost everything, so this keeps moisture within the soil.

My son used to play hide and seek with his friends in the gardens. We have an assortment of tropical fruit trees spread through the grounds. We have nispero, star fruit, caimito, custard apples, lemons, mangos and guanabana. The guanabana leaves make great tea, and it's my favorite tree because of its anti-cancer properties.

The gentle path leads you to the office entrance. The Secret Garden makes a great stop on a day trip to Mayaguez or Rincon Puerto Rico.

If you're looking for things to do in Puerto Rico, and you happen to be on the west coast, visit Rincon and drop by the Secret Garden Art Gallery. This is a quick Secret Garden walkthrough. The gallery is right off 429 bewteen the Lemontree and the Horned Dorset Hotels.
It's less than 15 minutes from Mayaguez.
This gallery makes a great stop over while visiting Rincon. The gardens are a mini jungle and surround the gallery.

This is the Farmers market in Rincon, PR. Every 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month, in the Plaza of Rincon, all sorts of goodies are sold. I've bought ginger that looks like wax sculptures, plenty of fruits and veggies and last time I was at the market I bought turmeric rhizomes.
Wow, what a find. I take turmeric for its anti-inflammatory properties. Too much time at the computer hurts my hands and turmeric relieves them. I also picked up a dozen avocados the size of cantaloupes for a buck a piece. I bought my wife these home made soaps with coconut, passion fruit and mint aromas as a Christmas gift. (I'm glad she doesn't read my blog.)

The idea behind these small paintings(9x12) was to have no preconceived idea as to what the final piece would look like.
I begin by choosing one color and randomly applying it until I see some recognizable shapes taking form.
Then I fill in and define the shapes with a minimal use of colors in order to keep the paintings simple. The whole process I believe is similar to automatic writing. I let the experience of painting flow through me. It's a freeing process.
