School photos - Zac October 2016

2016-11-06T13:33:00.004-07:00

I really am not a fan of the school photography people. The images are all exactly the same with no feeling to them. So I have taken my own for several years. I like them SO much better. On occasion they do take the odd good one. Anyway, this is the ones of Zac that I took. He is tired of me pointing my camera at him all the time and has become self-conscious of his teeth so doesn't smile much. Braces follow when baby teeth are out. So here he is:

Natalie's autumn senior photos 2016

2016-11-06T13:27:00.001-07:00

The official school photos were taken in September but Natalie had work that interfered with getting her hair ready for the pictures. She was not happy with the first lot so we aimed to get them redone in October. So we took her to have her hair curled on the night before, hoping that the curls that don't usually like to stay in her hair would in fact still be there the next morning. When we got back I took some images of her for her fall senior pictures. Here are my favorites:

Natalie's senior photos. 2016

2016-11-06T13:22:00.001-07:00

I cannot believe that my daughter will be graduating in May next year (2017). It blows my mind! I decided that we would take her senior photos over the four seasons that occur during her last school year. So we started in late summer 2016 and will continue through each of the seasons. It has worked well so far. We'd better get some snow this year otherwise it'll defeat the whole purpose of the four seasons spread. These are the summer images:

Doing some catch up. August 2014

2016-11-06T12:34:00.000-07:00

A lot has happened over the past little while. Well, at least since I did any kind of decent meaningful post. I took the kids to San Diego. We found a really lovely condo complex right on the beach. Fantastic. We'll definitely be going back there. Spent the time watching the waves, the beach goers, the dolphins and the shoals of fish you could see. Oh and I saw a sea lion. It was amazing.

My son had only seen the ocean once before, well truthfully we'd been at the beach three times before this but the second time had been shrouded in so much fog that we could only hear the ocean until we reached it by walking blind through the fog. He was mesmerized. He spent ages watching the waves. He was six then. This time he was ten and was just as mesmerized as before.

We had visited San Diego before but it had been incredibly wet and cold so we hadn't spent any time by the ocean. It had been December. We had spent time wandering the area there and further north into LA, We had gone to Balboa Park not knowing quite what to expect. I had found that there was a miniature railway museum there so we had gone along. We were all quite surprised at just how lovely the place is.So this time around, we went again. This time, I had more money because we didn't have the bother of a second adult and we went into all the museums and galleries that I could persuade them to go to. So much to see and so many things to explore. We love San Diego.

Wow there's so much to catch up on.....

2016-07-03T13:20:00.000-06:00

I apologize. It has been too long since I posted last. There has been so much going on and I have not kept this up and running. Anyway, I'm back. I have lots to catch up with photos-wise, so let's get on. Last post was November 2013. Let's see......

Too long

2013-11-09T17:54:00.001-07:00

Ok it really has been too long since I updated this. I have taken three new sets of photos since I posted Coulson's so in a little while I will update this page with my new shots. Keep watching this space.

Coulson - an excellent photographic subject!

2013-07-14T10:03:00.001-06:00

It was tons of fun and took ages, but looking through these, it was well worth it. These photos were taken over two days. The majority were taken on Monday July 8th, 2013. The last three were taken on Thurs July 11th, 2013 after Coulson had finished being in ALA Evolution's show choir version of Willy Wonka. I took those because of his awesome hair style. He is remarkably versatile. He sings, acts, dances, and now he models too. A lot of the poses he came up with himself. If only all photographic subjects could or would do that! He was very easy to work with and very self-critical. Thank you, Coulson. I had a blast photographing you. Good luck with your modelling, well, good luck with it all. There is very little in the way of editing needed on these and I will add more when I have finished more.

"My Fair Lady" 2012

2012-09-12T10:21:00.000-06:00

So I am doing some photos for the My Fair Lady show being performed by Spanish Fork Community Theater from July 19 to 28th. I have been taking images from rehearsals and a couple of images of the characters in costume. I will keep adding them to the SFCT Facebook page. In the meantime, I am posting one of David who plays Pickering. I need a new 28-200mm lens. No matter what I do, it will not focus properly. I think it's because I use it all the time and it's worn out. Pain in the rear really.

Spanish Fork Community Theater

2012-07-21T17:02:00.001-06:00

Be sure to check out some of Spanish Fork Community Theater's official photos from their play this year "My Fair Lady". Not only did I take their official photos, I also was their dialect coach for the proper and Cockney accents that the cast had to have. This show is amazing. If you haven't seen it yet, be sure to pop along soon. I feel blessed and extremely grateful to have been included in this production. I hope that I can work with everyone again next year. There is a link to the page with some event photos on it to the right of the page here. Thanks for looking. Comments would be welcomed and appreciated.

Graduation, Prom and a little bit of Seniors

2012-04-21T17:21:00.001-06:00

I have really enjoyed working with the people who have helped me out with my practices. Now I need the business I am excited to get them back for more. It looks like I have two sessions set up for Seniors and one Graduation and one (freebie) for Prom photos. This business will be good, not great but good and I am happy that people are trying me out. Shame I never got Kami's daughter's baptism after all. Maybe my prices was too high but hey she ended up wanting all six kids photos done. I am enjoying this a lot. If you are reading this and want to sign up, check the column on the right here and sign away!

Disheartened: stupid idiot!

2012-04-21T17:14:00.002-06:00

Do you know how terribly disheartening it is to have someone you don't know tell you your photos are of lower quality than their lowest requirements? Totally, that's how. Nothing worse than them telling you that the three photos you love the most are crap by comparison to their lowest requirements. Remind me not to go trying to sell stock photos. I am crap! But then again, I didn't spend much time actually composing them, which was one of the main criticisms of all three. I suppose I really should try again with new photos and not send them from my Macbook as I seem incapable of doing anything even remotely photo-y with it. I'll need to use my desktop that I loathe and detest. Suppose I'll try again.

Post editing Amanda

2012-03-22T18:26:00.001-06:00

Wow, I hadn't realized quite how tedious and boring editing photos was going to be. Funny thing was, I had done 35 out of 47 shots and found some other software. So I ended up putting the first 35 through the new software and therefore it took forever! Sadly the software I was using will cease to exist from April 19, so i have to find something similarly easy and quick to use. I got Photoshop Elements, but it is so damned tedious to use. Another reason why I took until last night to finish editing. I have to sit and learn PSE before I try to incorporate it into my photography. The blemish removal is just far too intense and the skin of the subjects ends up looking like porcelain and I hate that. The images look so utterly fake. So I suppose I am going to have to find some PSE classes that I can take that specifically deal with blemish removal and skin smoothing effects. The rest is easy enough in Picasa. And overall my thoughts are, if you have to edit your photos you are doing something wrong, unless it's blemishes and poor skin.

Hi res pics, well, a couple at least...

2012-03-18T13:31:00.001-06:00

So as not to encourage stealing of my copyright, I am only posting three hi res images. Let me know what you think. Rather more editing than I would normally do, but they look kinda cool.

Official business...

2012-03-16T23:08:00.004-06:00

Today was my first official day as a "professional" photographer. I couldn't get to see anyone about getting my licence, but that's what Monday is for. The woman I needed to get the licence from wasn't around and I had so much to do I couldn't wait for her. But I got my EIN yesterday and some business paperwork stuff today. Need to figure out what to do with it.

So Amanda and her mom, Alicia and Amanda's boyfriend came for the sitting. My first official sitting. I was nervous but not as much as for Chante's sitting. It was a lot of fun. We did lots of shots. Some were similar to others, but in different outfits and slightly different poses and positions. I am surprised at how tiring it can be. My biggest problem is coming up with new poses, so it's useful that the clients have at least a little idea of what they want too.

Here are a few of the shots of Amanda...

New hair requires new photos!

2012-03-03T07:49:00.002-07:00

So my hair gets really heavy when it gets long so I got it cut....

And Natalie's lack of style was just ugly so she got this....

I am bias but this is a stunning image of her. Love it.

Success!

2012-02-25T15:43:00.001-07:00

I had a big photos session with my friend Chante and her three gorgeous daughters on Presidents Day. It lasted two hours and forty minutes. I took 400+ photos and after processing and a little bit of adjustment on shadows, sharpness and blemishes, they look fantastic. I decided that February 29th is the very last time I don't charge for my photos. Obviously there will be some exceptions, but that's it. It is four days away and then I hope to start making a little money at this. I really like taking pictures. It's still nerve wracking but I love it. I purchased two brown sheets for backdrops for boys in particular. Now I need to ask someone to make me a platform I can use to raise my subjects off the floor and make it so I don't have to lay on the floor in order to look up at them. So I will ask the husband of a friend of mine and see what happens. I guess I also need to pay for a business licence now too. Here are some of the shots I took.

Mr Unco-operative!

2012-02-18T16:51:00.002-07:00

My son, king of all things unco-operative, was a little less unco-operative than usual today. He knew I wanted spring pictures of him and his sister so he helped me a bit. But, he was in a rush, so I had to accept the opportunity I was given and make the quickest best of it. So here we are....

I love these actually they really have picked out his personality; from happy and sweet, to cheeky and moody. All things lovely about my son!

Johnson Shoot

2012-02-15T22:16:00.002-07:00

Saturday saw me borrowing my friend Michelle's daughter for an impromptu practice shoot. Always fun, her daughter was most helpful with following instructions too. Thank heavens for that. Here are some of the photos from that shoot.

Herre shoot

2012-02-15T21:37:00.002-07:00

Just looking at these gorgeous girls, I knew this was going to be a great shoot. Little Sarah was much more amenable than I thought she would be having hidden and cried every time I had so much as looked at her before. She was such a good girl. This was lots of fun and the girls really helped with following the instructions I gave them. Here are some examples of the shots I took.

I have not posted the best quality photos. Saves on post editing stealing really. Hope you like them. Feel free to register and follow the blog and comment. But please be constructive. Constructive criticism is usually accepted and very helpful.

It's so unbelievably scrumptious

2012-02-10T17:53:00.001-07:00

I love taking photographs. It's just something that I could do all day if I had subjects to take all the time. In the run up to a promised shoot of a my friend Nicole's girls, I made my gorgeous daughter sit for me so that I could get my settings and lighting right before the girls all arrived. I am so glad I did. This is the result of my half hour fiddle. I love them. She's so gorgeous, but you see, I'm totally bias!

The 7D is back!!!

2012-02-07T21:42:00.002-07:00

Finally got the 7D back but it wasn't fixed because they couldn't reproduce the issue. I'm just glad to have it back. So glad in fact, I took these photos with it!

I particularly like the black and white ones here. All a bit of trial and error but the lighting rig really is an excellent bargain!

Spring portraits

2012-02-07T19:55:00.002-07:00

Well it's that time of year again at the schools, isn't it? Spring photos come rolling around so fast you wonder where the time has gone since they did the fall ones. Well, if you don't want to take advantage of the school photographer and you'd like someone to take those precious images of your gorgeous children in a much more relaxed atmosphere and with someone who actually cares about your children, please contact me as soon as you can to make an appointment to take them here at my studio.

My studio is here in my home and I am never in a rush to take them and get on with the next child (unless it's your other child and they are driving you nuts). My child-friendly, relaxed atmosphere will allow you to sit close by and make sure your child looks how you want them to look in those photos you'll treasure forever.

Call me soon on (801) 362-6631 and we can make the necessary arrangements for you and your children.
